インターネット上で学校または地域ごとに集まりコミュニケーションをとる学校裏サイトのような電子掲示板では,しばしば匿名性を悪用し,陰湿ないじめにつながることが多々あり社会問題となっている.これは,電子掲示板に書き込んだ発言が他者にどう影響を与えるかを知らないことが原因の一つとして考えられる.したがって,個々の発言が他者にどう影響を与えるかの指標を確立し,その影響度を発言者へ示すことができれば,問題発言の減少につながると考えられる.そこで,本稿では,電子掲示板の発言の特徴である文字と記号のみで構成されていることと,発言の長さがことなっていることに着目する.発言が短いときは,発言中の単語がその発言を象徴し,発言が長いときは,発言中の単語の組み合わせが重要であると考え,既出発言を学習させ,新たな発言が出現したとき,他者にどう影響を与えるかをベイズ理論を応用して影響度を算出する手法を提案する.単語と単語のペアの学習データをそれぞれ準備し,この手法の有効性を示す.

小学校6年生児童116名を対象とし,永久歯齲蝕発病と3歳児健康診査における乳歯齲蝕罹患状況との関係を調査した。統計学的分析は,永久歯齲蝕に関与すると考えられる生活習慣および3歳児乳歯齲蝕罹患型の9項目を説明変量,DMFを目的変量とした数量化I類によって行った。この結果,最も関与の大きい項目は乳歯齲蝕罹患型であり(偏相関係数=0.181,順位1位),乳歯齲蝕罹患型を説明変量に加えることで,重相関係数は0.287から0.355に上昇した。また乳歯齲蝕罹患と他の説明変量として使用した生活習慣の間に内部相関は認められなかった。このことから,乳歯齲蝕の罹患状況が永久歯齲蝕発病に比較的大きな影響を与えていると考えられ,乳幼児期における健康指導・教育の重要性が示唆された。

Excess-carrier recombination mechanisms in undoped BaSi2 epitaxial films grown by molecular beam epitaxy on n-type silicon substrates have been studied by the microwave-detected photoconductivity decay measurement. The measured excess-carrier decay is multiexponential, and we divided it into three parts in terms of the decay rate. Measurement with various excitation laser intensities indicates that initial rapid decay is due to Auger recombination, while the second decay mode with approximately constant decay to Shockley-Read-Hall recombination. Slow decay of the third decay mode is attributed to the carrier trapping effect. To analyze Shockley-Read-Hall recombination, the formulae are developed to calculate the effective lifetime (time constant of decay) from average carrier concentration. The measurement on the films with the thickness of 50–600 nm shows that the decay due to Shockley-Read-Hall recombination is the slower in the thicker films, which is consistent with the formulae. By fitting the calculated effective lifetime to experimental ones, the recombination probability is extracted. The recombination probability is found to be positively correlated with the full width at half-maximum of the X-ray rocking curves, suggesting that dislocations are acting as recombination centers.

This paper aims to examine the relationship between the state of exile and Mexican representation in Cormac McCarthy's All the Pretty Horses (1992), which is the story of a modern Texan young man who loses his home and crosses the border south to Mexico in search of a "paradise" for cowboys. The protagonist, John Grady Cole, projects his own vision onto Mexico and then gets "betrayed" by the violent reality of Mexico. It is true that Mexico appears here as "the Infernal Paradise," but the country is also "another country," where foreigners can only know of the Otherness of Mexico, and at the same time functions as a "mirror" which reflects the reality of the U. S. John Grady loses his Mexican "paradise" and returns to Texas, where there is no place for home; he comes to be a cowboy on the border, who cannot belong to the U. S. nor to Mexico. This homelessness seems to join him to some Mexican-Americans who appear in the story, such as Luisa, Arturo, Abuela and a "Mexican" who has never been to Mexico. Thus, his "failed" crossing, paradoxically, makes him into a true border-crosser.
