人面牛身で予言をする「件(くだん)」は、明治から昭和初期にかけて西日本の口碑の中に認められる妖怪である。本論では民間伝承と文学テクストを用いて、その誕生から伝播・消滅に至る経緯を考察した。件は農業における厄除けと豊作祈願に起源があり、牛頭天王信仰と関わりながら、産業構造の変化に伴って民衆の意識が仮託される存在へと変化して行った。ついには人間と牛の関係が社会の中で希薄になった事で、殆ど消滅したのである。

The recent discovery of the new family of compounds, named leukotrienes because of their origin from leukocytes and a structural characteristic, the conjugated triene, has significantly increased our knowledge of arachidonic acid metabolism.This review will focus on the chemistry leading to the complete stereochemical elucidation of the leukotrienes, as well as more recent synthetic advances.

The ValveClamp system is a novel edge-to-edge mitral valve repair system that is designed for ease of operation. We aimed to report the 1-year outcomes of the early feasibility study of this system.Patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR) at higher surgical risk and who received transapical ValveClamp implantation were followed for 1 year for clinical and echocardiographic outcomes.Twelve patients (mean age, 76.5 ± 6.3 years; mean Society of Thoracic Surgery score, 6.9 ± 1.9%) were enrolled at three sites in China. At 1 year, no patient died, received reoperation, or had long-term complications. Of the 12 patients with MR of 3+ or 4+ at baseline, 11 patients (91.67%) remained with MR ≤ 2+ at 1 year, and no patient had mitral stenosis. Significant reductions in maximum MR area (from 15.1 ± 6.51 cm2 to 4.45 ± 1.85 cm2, P < 0.001), effective orifice area (from 4.34 ± 0.34 cm2 to 2.38 ± 0.45 cm2, P < 0.001), and vena contracta width (from 8.03 ± 1.11 to 3.38 ± 2.11 mm, P < 0.001) were observed. The left cardiac dimensions were decreased, especially the mitral valve annulus diameter (from 34.79 ± 4.27 mm to 31.42 ± 2.81 mm, P < 0.05). Of the 12 patients with baseline New York Heart Association functional class III/IV, all patients experienced an improvement of at least one class (P < 0.05).Our study provides evidence that transapical ValveClamp implantation in high-risk patients with severe degenerative MR is safe and feasible, with good efficacy in the mid-long term.

失業・雇用統計は、国際的に、主に2つの統計系列一世帯を調査対象にする労働力調査と失業救済の行政記録による請求者登録からなっているが、各国において、その源泉と作成方法に相違があり、直接にそれらを比較することができない。雇用・失業統計の国際基準は、ILO統計局で定められている労働力調査方式であるが、失業統計と公表失業率の事実反映性をめぐって、国際的論議が展開されており、その方式の意義と限界が問題とされ、失業の単一指標である公表失業率を補足・代替する指標として、不完全就業指標と失業の代替指標の概念規定が国際的に論議されている。 本稿では、歴史的に失業統計(請求者登録)の先駆をなし、失業統計の意義と限界の批判、隠された失業と本当の失業の推計、失業の代替指標の開発について論議が積み重ねられているイギリスの事例をとりあげ、批判統計学の視点から、若干の考察をおこない、残された研究課題を明にする。

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the estimation of "time headway" and its real value in drivers of an automobile. In the experiment the subjects who were driving an experimental vehicle, which was equipped with both GPS and laser radar, were required to follow another vehicle in front of them. The "time headway" which was measured automatically by appropriate instruments was compared with the "time headway" of the subjective estimates from the subjects. The estimated times of the subjects showed a high variability in all subjects; some subjects showed a significant variation of estimated time during the course of a day. Furthermore, the estimates of the "time headway" were on a statistically level significantly inaccurate. In other experiments which a "time headway" of 3 seconds or 4 seconds was required to be maintained by the subjects by counting aloud, thus, trying an adjustment to the subjectively perceived "time headway", it was observed that in such situations the actual "time headway" frequently was reduced by almost 1 second after counting. In contrast, in the same situation, but with guidance provided by a clicking sound at regular intervals of 1 second, the perceived estimation of "time headway" improved to an acceptable degree of accuracy.

According to a system of classification for multi-stage redox systems proposed by Hünig, tetrathiafulvalene (TTF), bithiopyranylidene (BTP) are considered to be Weitz-type donors whereas tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) is regarded as Wurster-type acceptor. Recent efforts to explore new redox systems have provided various structural modifications, such as symmetrical, unsymmetrical, condensed, and inserted versions on TTF, BTP, and TCNE. In this review recent progress in design and synthesis of the modified TTF, BTP, and TCNE systems is described.

Septo-optic-dysplasia (SOD) は視神経低形成, 視床下部性の下垂体機能低下症, 中枢神経系の正中構造異常を3徴とし, 2徴以上を満たす例を本症とする. 今回我々はSOD患児10例について画像的検討を行った.  両側に視神経低形成を認めたのは6例で, 中枢神経系の正中部構造異常を認めた. 片側に認めたのは4例で, 同側または両側に皮質形成異常を認めた. これはSODの成因として血管破綻説を支持する所見と考えた.  皮質形成異常を認めた4例中3例に99mTc HM-PAO SPECT, 123I iomazenil SPECTを実施し, 正常皮質と同等の集積を認めた. てんかん原性となりうる皮質形成異常では発作間欠期にはどちらも低集積となることが多く, SODに合併する皮質形成異常でてんかん発症率が低いこととの関連が推測された.

戦前期台湾の工産統計に付随して集計された工員統計は,工場に働く工員のほかに家内工業の工員と副業者を包含するとの解釈にたち,これに工場統計から得らる職員,技術員,その他の従業員の数値を加えて,工業の全雇用統計(推定)とする.これに鉱業と公益業との雇用を加え,戦後の雇用センサスの該当数値と連結すれば,第二次産業の雇用動向が明らかになる.これと同産業の実質付加価値生産高とを組合わせて,平均実質労働生産性の変動を観察する.
