This study examined nurses’ self-evaluation of their nursing work, determined whether there were variations in these self-evaluations, and explored how work environment factors influence them. Data were collected using a large-scale survey (31,657 objects). We extracted the essential principal components from the data on self-evaluation of nursing work and identified differences in principal component scores among workplace classifications and age groups. We also evaluated the relationships between scores for selfevaluation of nursing work and work environment factors using multiple regression models. Work environment factors significantly affected nurses’ intention to separate from employment (adjusted R² = 0.230) but exerted weaker effects on adequate nursing provision (adjusted R² = 0.028) and sense of fulfillment in nursing work (adjusted R² = 0.042). Both individual work environments (external factors) and nurses’ personal attributes (internal factors) should be considered major targets in implementing countermeasures for nurse turnover. Among the external factors, reduction of workload and organizational eradication of power harassment specifically demonstrated relationships with a sense of fulfillment in nursing work, and may act as additional countermeasures for nurse turnover.

法律文書は専門性が高いうえ、客観的な評価を求められるため、 自然言語処理の分野において非常に期待されている。 しかし、その文章は非常に複雑で多様な解析技術を要する。 そこで本論文では、まず司法試験自動解答を行うコンテスト型 ワークショップCOLIEE(Competition for Legal Information Extraction and Entailment)で配布されるテストデータを 要素ごとに手作業で分類し必要タスクごと(条件文抽出、否定形解釈) の概要をまとめた。そして特に人物関係に注目し、動詞や人物の役割を 基に法律文書の構造化の提案を行う。

本研究は、"17種のウォールペーパー・パターン"という数学のトピックスを、デザインの課題として取りあつかったものである。このトピックスを説明するにあたり、数学者たちはそれぞれの17図版を提示しているが、それらは数学を学ぶ者を対象に描かれたもので、デザイナーが模様を手がける際の手引きとはなりがたい。"17種のウォールペーパー・パターン"をデザインの世界で役立てるためには、数学者ではなくデザイナーによって描かれた17図版が望ましい。本研究では、デザイナーの創作に直接役立つ17図版の考案をこころみた。図版考案に際しては、今から100年以上前に『パターン・デザイン』をあらわしたルイス・デイより、図版における創作姿勢を見習った。本研究では17図版それぞれに、(1)ひとつのモチーフでの展開例、(2)複数のモチーフでの展開例、さらに(3)アルファベット文字をもちいた展開例をしめすことができた。

[Purpose] The Gait Judge System measures the plantar flexion resistive torque acting on the angle of the ankle joint, as well as the ankle joint itself, of the ankle-foot orthosis using a 1,000 Hz sampling frequency. This pilot study aimed to determine the characteristics of plantar flexion resistive torque acting on the double Klenzak ankle joint of the ankle-foot orthoses worn by healthy individuals. [Participants and Methods] Participants were eight healthy young adults (3 male, 5 female; mean age, 26.8 years old; mean height, 165 cm.; mean body weight, 56.3 kg). Plantar flexion resistive torques and angles of the ankle joint in gait cycles were measured with the Gait Judge System. Speed of gait was calculated using a ruler attached on the floor and the Gait Judge System video. We classified waveforms according to the existence of second peaks in the gait cycle. The correlations between parameters related to the plantar flexion resistive torque and the speed of gait were evaluated using Pearson’s simple correlation analysis. [Results] The plantar flexion resistive torque showed two peaks: the first peak was at the loading response, measured at 17.4 Nm, and the second peak was at the pre-swing phase, measured at 10.9 Nm. However, the second peak was absent in three of the participants. The normalized second peak and the second peak/first peak ratio had a strong, positive correlation with the speed of gait. [Conclusion] The Gait Judge System revealed typical waveforms according to the parameters set in this study.

円周率πを表すいわゆるブランカーの公式の初等的な導き方を示し,その打切り誤差が,π/4の逆数をグレゴリー級数で表したときの打切り誤差と正確に一致することを示した。またその導き方を応用して,自然対数の底eの収束の速い連分数展開を与えた。さいごにそれらの無限連分数の数値計算法を検討して,これまでに知られている直接的な計算法をブランカーの公式に当てはめるとすぐ桁あふれが起こってしまう(最初の10項しか計算できない)こと,また本論文で提案される計算法によれば,桁あふれを大幅に抑えられる(4百万項計算できる)ことを示した。

遷延性植物状態(PVS)はその診断基準の難しさと同時に患者とのコミュニケーションが困難であるという理由から、様々な倫理的問題を引き起こしてきた。しかし最近、植物状態と診断されたにもかかわらず、実は意識を持っている患者がいることを示唆する研究が報告された。本稿ではこの研究結果を検証し、実験で使用されたパラダイムが特に臨床応用において問題を表出させることを示す。さらにこの問題を解決させるための新たな実験パラダイムを提唱する。この新しいパラダイムは、将来患者とのコミュニケーションを図る方法を構築する上で重要な役割を担う可能性をも持つであろう。重要なのは、科学的に検証可能な問題が、科学のサイドからではなく、臨床倫理の側面から提起されるということである。この考察により、神経倫理学における新たな方法論が存在することが強く示唆される。

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an adult-onset neurodegenerative disease characterized by the selective loss of upper and lower motoneurons. Approximately 10% of all ALS cases are genetically inherited, and a mutation in the Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) gene is thought to be a cause of motoneuron dysfunction. Importantly, the motoneuron toxicity appears to result from a toxic gain-of-function mutation in SOD1 and not from the loss of superoxide dismutase activity. Transgenic mice overexpressing several types of SOD1 mutant show the ALS-like phenotype and are widely accepted as animal models of ALS. However, no common toxic mechanism has been identified among these SOD1 mutants. Studies using autopsies of ALS patients or model mouse have suggested multiple causes of ALS including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, excitotoxicity, neurofilaments abnormality and protein aggregation. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress mediated motoneuron death is also suggested to be included in the pathogenesis of ALS. ALS-related mutant SOD1 evokes ER stress through the specific interaction with Derlin-1, a component of ER associated degradation (ERAD) machinery, leading to the subsequent motoneuron death. Zinc plays an important role in the function of nervous system and its dyshomeostasis is also thought to be one of the causes of ALS. In fact, zinc accumulation is observed in the brains and the spinal cords of mutant SOD1 transgenic mice. Moreover, zinc chelation extends the life span of these mise. There seems to be relationships between zinc dysregulation and several pathogenic processes of ALS. In this review, we will focus on the pathological role of ER stress and zinc in ALS.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of acute exercise and hypoxic exposure on the level of circulating selenoprotein P (SeP), which is known to cause insulin and exercise resistance, and expression of the muscle peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ co-activator-1α (PGC-1α) gene in pre-diabetes rat models. Fifteen week old male Wistar rats (n = 20) were fed with a high-fat diet and water ad libitum for 3 weeks. After the acclimation period, they were assigned to sedentary or exercise groups under normoxic (20.9% O2) and hypoxic (14.5% O2) conditions. Each of the exercise groups (NE and HE) was administered two 30-min no-load swimming exercises with an interval of 5-min rest. The serum, the liver, and the triceps muscle were obtained 3 h after the exercises. Hypoxic exposure did not affect hepatic SeP mRNA, serum SeP protein, and muscle PGC-1α mRNA expression. In contrast, acute swimming exercise reduced circulating SeP concentration and increased PGC-1α mRNA expression in triceps muscle. In conclusion, acute swimming exercise rather than moderate hypoxic exposure might improve insulin and exercise resistance in pre-diabetes conditions for type 2 diabetes.

We find between Japanese and Austronesian languages the following agreements in morphology: 1. The basic forms of Japanese verbs are the mizenkei (the imperfect form) which ends in -a and the renyokei (the conjunctive form) which ends in -i, and from these forms all the other conjugated forms are supposed to have developed. Many languages in Melanesia and Polynesia have the suffixes -(i)a and -i, the former making intransitive verbs and the latter transitive verbs. Both languages have thus the complementary pair of verbal endings - (i)a and -i. 2. In the Banks' Islands and the New Hebrides as well as in Japan, some nouns have independent and dependent forms, the former being derived from the latter by adding the termination -i. Examples : Japanese te 'hand' <ta-i, fi 'fire' <fo-i ; Mota matai 'eye' <mata-i, ului 'hair' <ulu-i. 3. Adjectival terminations : Japanese -ka, -ki, -ra, -ri, -sa, and -ta ; Melanesian -ga, -gi, -ra, -li, -sa. and -ta ; and verbal terminations : Japanese -si ; -k, -g, -;e, -r, -s, -t ; -f ; -rag, -yag, ; Melanesian -si ; -g, -η, -n, -r, -s, -t ; -v ; -lag, -rag, and -yag. 4. The verbal and adjectival prefixes ma-, ta-, and ka- : Japanese wosa 'interpreter' 〜ma-wos- 'to tell' tur- 'to be followed' 〜ma-tur-(of-) 'to follow saki〜masaki 'happiness' futo 'thick' 〜tafuto 'respectable', awo〜ka-awo 'blue' ; Malay deras 'fast' 〜meuderas 'to hurry', Mota sare 'to tear' 〜masare 'torn', Fiji dola 'to open'〜tadola 'open', voro 'to break'. 〜kavoro 'broken'.

A case of acute chlorine poisoning was reported. A 60 year-old engineer was exposed to chlorine gas when working with hydrochloric acid. On admission, his chest film revealed marked pulmonary edema and arterial gas examination showed hypoxemia. Immediately, he received oxygen inhalation and intravenous injection of a large dosage of hydrocortisone (Sorcortef 5g). On the seventh day of hospitalization, his condition improved as did radiologic findings. On the thirteenth day of hospitalization, transbronchial lung biopsy of the right lower bronchus showed peribronchial thickening and alveolar capillary dilatation. One month after exposure, symptoms of diffuse panbronchiolitis were recognized but they regressed by steroid treatment. Thereafter, chest film and pulmonary function returned to normal.It was suggested that large dose steroid treatment at an early stage would be effective to manage diffuse panbronchiolitis and pulmonary edema due to acute chlorine poisoning.
