This experiment was attempted to investigate the strategies of pitch coding in melody processing. Twenty-six musically trained and twenty-six musically naive subjects were instructed to make recognition for melodies after a 12-s retention interval, during which four conditions of interference (i.e. pause, interfering melody, nonsense syllables, musical note names) were interpolated. Both the standard and comparison melodies were 6-tone sequences which composed of high-tonality structure or low-tonality structure. It was found that the recognition of musicians was severely distrupted by the “note names” under a tonal melody, while it was disrupted by “interfering melody” under an atonal melody. On the other hand, the recognition of non-musicians was significantly worse than musicians, and there were no significant differences in distruptive effects between the interferences. These findings suggest that musicians could used verbal (note names) coding strategy for tonal melody and sensory pitch coding strategies (ex. humming, whistling) for atonal melody, but that non-musicians could not use any effective strategies for melody coding. Results were also discussed in relation to contour and pitch of melodies.

継時的な音列の聴取における音程の適確さの判断に関し, 仮説:"音程はずれ検知の範ちゅう化の強さは, 言語的な音程(音程名, あるいは半音何個分の音程か, などの非知覚的情報)の予測し易さに依存する"を立てた。この仮説の妥当性を検証するため, 継時的な二つの音からなる音列を用い, 音程はずれ検知に関する聴覚実験を行った。実験では音程はずれの判断に際し, 言語的な音程に関する情報を被験者に事前に知らせる条件, 及び知らせない条件の二つの条件を設定した。実験の結果, 事前情報ありの場合はなしの場合に比べ音程はずれ検知がより範ちゅう的に行われることが示され, 先の仮説が支持された。

There is an increasing interest in the extraction of DNA from soil, since molecular techniques facilitate the analysis of the microbial community including unculturable microorganisms. Though various methods of direct DNA extraction have been devised, it still remains difficult to extract DNA from some soils. We developed an improved method to extract DNA from such “recalcitrant soils”. Andisol, volcanic ash soils are recalcitrant in this context. Skim milk increased the efficacy of DNA extraction from such soils, when added to the extraction buffer as an adsorption competitor to soil particles. This method is applicable to molecular community analysis of soils which strongly adsorb DNA.

This paper is intended to estimate beach process and wave deformations at the Shitiri-mihama coast in Mie Prefecture. Field investigation by using an aerial photography technique is conducted along the Shitiri-mihama coast from the Kumano river mouth to the Onigashiro cape. It is clear that almost regions occurred beach erosion, especially Udono harbor region located on the left bank of the Kumano river, as the coastal line faced to sea, the beach protection works were struck by strong storms. Based on bottom sounding survey, maximum shoreline retreat was 100 meters for 5 years immediately after extend construction of breakwater around Udono harbor. It is necessary to predict water deformation for erosion control around coastal protection facilities. It is presented a time-depend mild slope equation for estimating wave deformation. Some simple calculations were conducted for modeling breakwater at the worst beach erosion area where located northern Udono harbor. The numerical model has well explanations for generation of partial standing waves, drop of mean sea level behind breakwaters.

The contents of 6-keto-prostaglandin F<SUB>1&alpha;</SUB> (6KF<SUB>1&alpha;</SUB>) and thromboxane B<SUB>2</SUB> (TXB<SUB>2</SUB>) in mouse peritoneal macrophages were determined by radioimmunoassay. When indomethacin at a final concentration of 0.1 mM was added at each stage in the preparation of macrophage samples, i.e. (I) before incubation of peritoneal exudate cells in glass dishes to prepare macrophage monolayers, (II) before harvest of macrophages from the glass surfaces, (III) before sonication of macrophage suspensions, and (IV) before centrifugation of sonicated macrophage solutions, large differences were detected in the contents of 6KF<SUB>1&alpha;</SUB> and TXB<SUB>2</SUB> at each stage. These results suggested that physical stimulation during the preparation of samples resulted in increases of 6KF<SUB>1&alpha;</SUB> and TXB<SUB>2</SUB> production by macrophages.

LEDのIV特性を測定した結果から発光エネルギーEが増加するとしきい値電圧V_<th>が増加することを示した。LEDの順方向電流が20mAのときの順方向電圧V_fを発光エネルギーEこ対してプロットした結果から,順方向電圧V_fと発光エネルギーEの関係は直線V_f=E/eの傾向に従っている。しかし,GaNを基礎としたと考えられるLEDでは直線と測定値のずれが大きく,V_f>E/eの関係になっている。IV特性の理論式から考察した結果,この原因としては理想因子n_<ideal>が大きいことと寄生抵抗として直列抵抗成分が存在することが考えられる。これらのことから「LEDを用いたプランク定数の測定実験」では,LEDのIV特性が理想特性からずれていることを考慮に入れて実験する条件を設定する必要があることを示した。
