Sharing and managing knowledge on human Kansei obtained in several study fields are of growing significance to providing product's values focused on customers. However, few sufficiently-advanced technologies that realize such knowledge sharing and management have been established. One typical approach is to clarify and systematize concepts as an ontology. In the current study, we developed an ontology to describe correspondence of affective meaning spaces analyzed by semantic differential method. First, we collect literatures reveal the affective meaning evaluated through the five senses and their inter-modality. Second, we described the concepts on the basis of an ontology of color emotions. Then, we demonstrated and evaluated the usefulness of the ontology in a design situation. As a result, we confirmed that the ontology will serve as a useful reference and be of assistance to designers.

The quenching process of a Japanese sword is simulated by a CAE system "HEARTS" developed by one of the authors. The system is available to consider the coupling effect among metallurgical change due to phase transformation, temperature and inelastic stress/strain. In the quenching process of the Japanese sword, a special kind of clay is pasted on the surface to control the heat transfer coefficient between metal and water. The dependence of the coefficient on the thickness of clay and also the surface temperature is experimentally evaluated first by using a cylindrical rod of silver. The results show a relatively higher value with thin-pasted clay than that without clay at a high temperature range. The data are then applied to simulate the variation of temperature coupled with the structural change from austenite to martensite and pearlite as well as the variation of stress. It gives an attractive result that the sword is bent two times to the direction opposite to the normal shape due to the complicated time difference between martensitic and pearlitic transformation and thermal contraction. The simulated results of residual stress distributions are compared with the measured data by X-ray diffraction technique.

われわれが化合物データベースより見出した新規抗プリオン物質GN8がリコンビナントプリオン蛋白に対して実際に結合するかどうかを,をBIAcoreT100を用いて調べた結果から,GN8が実際にリコンビナントプリオン蛋白に対して結合し,その解離定数は,4μM程度であることが分かった。全長のマウス・リコンビナント・プリオンのNMRスペクトル(HSQC)をGN8の存在下及び非存在下で測定した。その結果,GN8の特異的結合サイトが,N159とE196であることが明らかとなった。これらの部位は,ミリ秒からマイクロ秒の遅いタイムスケールの揺らぎを行っており,遺伝性のヤコブ病における変異部位とも関連していることが確認された。また,GN8の類縁体を複数(60種類),有機合成し,抗プリオン活性を測定した結果,そのいずれにおいても,ほぼ抗プリオン活性が認められた。このことより,GN8の基本骨格を保ちつつ,抗プリオン作用が最大になるようにその化学構造を最適化することが可能であることが分かった。プリオン感染マウスに対し,GN8を脳内投与したところ,特に副作用もなく,優位な寿命延長効果が認められたことから,GN8は,抗プリオン薬のリード化合物として非常に有望であると考えられる。GN8小分子化合物で脳血液関門を通過しやすいことが期待され,実際培養脳血液関門モデルを通過することが判明したが、マウス末梢投与においても有効であることが分かりつつある。以上により,GN8の作用メカニズムは,細胞型プリオンに結合し,その立体構造を安定化させるためであることが明らかとなった。

脂質膜センサをマルチチャンネル化した味認識装置が開発され、様々な食品の味の検討に成果をあげている。そこで本装置を用いて、おしるこ飲料の保存条件の違いが味に及ぼす影響について検討したところ、有意に応答差を示す膜が存在し、判別が可能であった。

地域の食文化や味を記録に残し,更に多くの人にちが継承し育んでいくことを願望して「21世紀に伝えたい味・残したい食品」「食の思い出」の2項目をアンケートにより調査した。呉市内に在住・在勤者およびその関係者(5歳から98歳までの男女1,010名)にアンケートにより回答を得たところ,ちらし寿司,味噌汁,煮しめなどの伝統的な和食が上位にあげられていた。「食の思い出」では「郷土食],「家族と一緒に料理をした」,「食卓を囲んだ思い出」など地域や家族と繋がる思い出が多く寄せられた。
