This paper attempts to construct a dynamic model of dialogic discourse. We posit a cognitive interface between language and knowledge-base. This interface contains pointers or indices which control the access path to the knowledge-base and the temporary memorybase set up for each dialogue session. Utterances in a dialogue can be seen as instructions for operations on this interface:registering, searching, copying, and inferring, etc. We examine the nature of these operations by analyzing Japanese interjections such as "eeto" and "ano(o)". The mental processes which those interjections reflect can be well described using the data-base and the working buffer. "Eeto" reflects that the speaker is securing the working space in the buffer, whereas "ano(o)" reflects that the speaker is extracting linguistic information from the data-base.

聴覚印象に基づいて分類した3種類のアクセント型にそれぞれ所属するテスト語は,音響的にも互いに有意に異なっていることが,分散分析の結果によって確認された。また,あらかじめ分類を行わずに音響特徴のみを与えてテスト語を分類させるクラスター分析の結果,3種類のクラスターが得られた上,各クラスターの成員が,聴覚印象に基づいて分類したアクセント型の成員とほぼ完全に一致した。以上の結果から,池間方言のアクセント体系は三型であって二型ではないということは,動かしがたい事実であると断言することができる。本節の分析により,池間方言と多良間方言の間にはそれぞれのアクセント型に所属する語彙に規則的な対応があることが示されたが,同時に池間方言のA型の語彙数が極端に少ないことも明らかにされた。A型の語彙が極めて少ない事実もまた,池間方言のアクセント体系が二型であるとする誤った記述の原因のひとつであると考えられる。方言間の対応については次節でも触れる。

本稿では言語と認知,言語と思考との関係にかかわる現象について考察する。特に「ところ」という形式名詞の多義性の問題を対象にして言語と推論メカニズム,統語論と意味論,意味論と語用論との関連を考える。初めに「場所」や「位置」を示す形式名詞「ところ」(以下トコロと記す)の空間的な意味・用法を見て,トコロを「基準点を同定する」と特徴づけ,それらがどのように「動作,事態の局面(時間的用法)」,さらには「論理・推論(モーダル用法)」へと拡張されるか,そのメカニズムを詳しく考察することでトコロの様々な用法が説明できることを示す。空間>時間>論理・推論という拡張の認知メカニズムを考えることで,言語,認知,論理の関係についての示唆を得ることが目的である。

本稿は、沖縄県宮古島市西原地区の言語・文化を記述し、それを電子博物館として研究者および地区の住民たちが自由に見られる形で記録・展示し、この言語・文化の継承に資する試みを紹介する。宮古島西原地区は、池間島から明治7年に移住してきた住民が暮らしている。他地区から移住して自分たちの文化と言語を維持する努力をつづけてきたため、他地区より自己アイデンティティの確認作業を行わなければならず、母語と文化を維持してきた。この地区の住人たちは積極的に次世代に言語・文化を伝える努力を続けており、彼らの活動は他の地区の人々のモデルとなりえるものである。電子博物館というウェブ上の記録・展示装置がこのような地域住民の活動や、他の研究者との連携を助けるシステムとして機能し、琉球の言語と文化、ひいては消滅の危機にある言語・文化の記録と継承に貢献しうることを示す。

In this paper we test the hypothesis that Ikema, a dialect of Miyako Ryukyuan, has a three-pattern accent system, where three accent classes, Types A, B, and C, are lexically distinguished, contra previous studies which have claimed that it has a two-pattern accent system. The results of our analysis confirm the existence of three distinct accent classes. The three-way distinction can only be observed in quite restricted conditions, including when nouns followed by one or more bimoraic particles precede a predicate. The results also reveal that Type A words are few in number, indicating that Type A words are in the process of merging with Type B.

In this paper we attempt to construct a dynamic model of discourse management, a version of Mental Space Theory, modified to accommodate dialogic discourse by incorporating a memory management system. We posit a cognitive interface between linguistic expression and knowledge-base. This interface contains pointers or indices linked to addresses in the knowledge base, controlling access paths to the data in the base. Utterances in a dialogue exchange can be redefined as input-output operations via this interface: registering, searching, editing, etc. The main theses of our approach to discourse management are as follows:The operations coded in the various forms are to be defined as performing input-output operations on the database of the speaker and not that of the hearer's model in the speaker. It is argued that the hearer's model in the speaker is not only unnecessary but also harmful in the description of sentence forms. We divide the interface into two components, I-domain and D-domain. The former is linked to temporary memory, houses the assumptions and propositions newly introduced to the discourse yet to be incorporated into the database and can be accessed only indirectly by inferences, logical reasoning, hearsay, and data search. The latter is linked to the permanent memory, houses information already incorporated in the database and can be directly accessible by simple memory search like pointing to an index. New information passes through only via I-domain. We will demonstrate that our approach solves problems in mutual knowledge but also provides a powerful tool in the description of some of the most recalcitrant phenomena in natural language.

本研究の各研究分担者の研究の概要をあげ、その後で全体の総括をすることとする。まず西光は日本語は英語と比べて談話構造において繰り返しが多く、多義性が高いことをさまざまな現象で示し、その原因について考察をすすめた。柴谷はパラメ-タ理論による日本語の対照統語論の研究を言語類型論の立場から批判し、日英語だけでなく、世界中の諸言語を考慮に入れる必要を唱えた。また日本語の受身表現を類型論の立場から分析し、世界の諸言語における日本語の受身表現のしめる位置を明らかにした。田窪は文脈のための言語理論を開発し、理論的土台を提供した。田窪と木村は中国語、日本語、英語、フランス語の三人称代名詞の対照研究を行い、日本語の三人称代名詞が未発達であることが文脈依存性によるものであることを考究した。益岡は日本語特有であるといわれ、なかなか本質をとらえ難い「のだ」構文を先行の諸説を踏まえ、独自の機能分析を行った。林は日本語、フランス語、ル-マニア語の遊離構文の対照研究を行った。金水は談話における指示詞の機能と述語の意味層に考察を加え、日本語の文脈依存性による説明を試みた。田窪、益岡、金水はそれぞれ日本語のモダリティの諸側面を考究し、文脈依存性との相関関係を明らかにした。また研究協力者として、中川正之は中国語は文脈依存度において、日本語と英語の中間であることを諸現象の観察によって示した。当初の目的である、諸言語との対照によって、日本語の文脈依存度が高いことを相対的に示すことについては、さまざまの現象について、詳細で微細な考察が進められ、相対度を持ったパラメ-タを各言語に設定するための見通しがたった。さらに考察の対照とする現象と言語の範囲を増やし、パラメ-タ設定を精密化し、最終的な理論体系をうち立てる土台ができたといえよう。特に会話方策と談話構造と語用論に関する対照研究の必要性が大きく注目されるさらなる考究の必要な分野として、本研究の結果、明らかになった。また文脈の理論および文脈依存性のモデル化についても全体像が見えてきた。

消滅の危機に瀕した琉球諸語の奄美語の七つの下位方言、沖縄語の十の下位方言、宮古語の四つの下位方言、八重山語の五つの下位方言、与那国語の計27の下位方言、および八丈語を加えた計28の方言についての文法記述を行った。記述に際しては、統一的な目次を作成して行った。琉球諸語についての知識のない研究者にも利用可能なものを目指して、グロスを付した記述を行った。最終年度までに研究成果として『琉球諸語 記述文法』Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲの3冊を刊行した。

日本語共通語、韓国語、英語、琉球語宮古方言のデータにもとづいて、日常言語の推論にかかわるモデルを構築し、証拠推論の性質、アブダクションによる推論と証拠推論との関係を明らかにした。時制、空間表現、擬似用法と推論の関係を明らかにした。関連性理論を用いた推論モデルの構築に関して推論の確率的な性質について研究を行い、一般的な条件文と反事実条件文の信念強度を共通の計算によって扱える計算装置を提案した。

平成22年度には新資料の発見がいくつかあったが、主なものとしては、バチカン図書館蔵『伊呂波』と、シーボルト旧蔵にかかるマンチェスター・ジョンライランズ図書館現蔵『倭語類解』との欧洲所在朝鮮資料2点である。前年度に始めたそれらの調査を平成23年度にも続けた。後者に関しては、Medhurst編『朝鮮偉國語彙』(1835年刊)の前半の底本となったものであるということがわかったが、マンチェスター本『倭語類解』のみならず、『語彙』の後半のもととなった和刻本『朝鮮千字文』(Sturler旧蔵、パリ国立図書館現蔵)などをも調査した結果を2012年1月の教授就任講義で改めて取り上げ、今後『語彙』の成立過程と出典をテーマとした小論としてまとめる予定である。また、平成23年度には新たに、『朝鮮通信考』なる写本(京都大学附属図書館蔵)に「諺文いろは」が載せてあることを発見した。寛永13年(1636年)の朝鮮通信使の際、朝鮮人文弘績が林羅山と筆談する時に記したと見られるものである。とすれば、18世紀のものがほとんどの、先行研究において指摘されてきた「諺文いろは」の諸本よりも一世紀近く早いものということになる。従って、朝鮮資料のみならず一般的に日本語音韻史の研究にとって好資料となると思われる。特に、その原形がこの「諺文いろは」とほぼ同じ年代に遡るとされている原刊本『捷解新語』のハングル音注に矛盾するところが少なくないという点で、示唆に富む資料といえる。平成23年度内に発表した論文としては、まず、管見に入った若干の補遺を加えるとともに西洋の学界に紹介する目的で、2009年刊行の『譯學書文献目録』(遠藤光暁他編)の書評を執筆した。これ以外に、広く朝鮮時代におけるハングルによる外国語表記を扱った小論も平成23年に出たが、朝鮮資料の日本語表記などにも触れている。
