A major challenge in terms of commercializing 1-methylclopropene (1-MCP) to extend the storage life and control physiological disorders in European pears is that it irreversibly inhibits fruit ripening in some cultivars, particularly flesh softening that is necessary for optimal consumption quality. In this study, we examined the effect of 1-MCP pretreatments on fruit ripening and associated transcriptomic changes in ‘La France’ (Pyrus communis L.) pears during storage at 20°C and 5°C. Compared to non-treated controls, 1-MCP pretreatment suppressed fruit respiration and ethylene production rates, and markedly delayed flesh softening. Normal ripening (ethylene production and flesh softening to eating quality firmness) was observed in 1-MCP treated fruit after 42 d at 20°C, and 112 d at 5°C. Subsequent RNA-Seq analysis revealed that 6,427 genes, including those associated with ethylene biosynthesis (ACS1, ACS1b, ACO1, and ACO2), cell wall degrading enzymes (PG3, β-GAL, EG, and EXP1), and transcription factors (AGL18 and NAC29) were up- or down-regulated in non-treated fruit both at 20°C and 5°C. The expression patterns of these genes were disrupted by 1-MCP pretreatment, but up- or down-regulation was also observed when ethylene was detected in 1-MCP-treated fruit. Together, these findings demonstrate the potential for practical use of 1-MCP to extend storage life in ‘La France’ pears given that (i) a single application markedly extended storage life to 56 d at 20°C and 112 d at 5°C, and (ii) treated fruit could regain their softening capacity, thus eliminating previous irreversible ripening blockage concerns.

摂食障害は社会的要因に大きく関係した疾患であり,「社会文化結合症候群」というとらえ方がある.本症の患者数は統計的に把握しにくいが,EDNOSを含めると患者は増加の一途をたどっていると思われる.産業構造の変化による1980年代からの女性の社会参画増加による育児への影響や,競争社会によるストレスの多い排他的な,子どもたちにとって住みにくい社会へと変貌している状況から,今後も患者数は増加することが危倶される.「やせ礼讃社会」によるダイエットの流行と本症の増加にみられる関係は,裕福な経済状態という社会的環境変化を潜伏変数とした擬似相関であり,発症要因としての因果関係はないと考える.

A series of our studies demonstrated that wrinkling on the human face is initiated at the eye corner which is the most frequently sun-exposed area. The depth of the wrinkling was found to be paralleled by the diminished elastic property in the same area, indicating that a significant decrease in the skin elasticity is mainly responsible for the formation of wrinkling. In our studies using rat hind limb skins for elucidating the causative factors of the reduced elasticity, we found that wrinkle formation in the skin following long-term UVB irradiation was accompanied by decreases in skin elasticity and the concomitant curling of elastic fibers in the dermis which suggested that the tortuosity of dermal elastic fibers is an important determinant in reducing the skin elasticity. Since the damage in three dimensional elastic fiber structures seems to be attributable to the partial digestion by elastases, the degradative enzymes for elastic fibers, whose activities in the dermis were enhanced by repeated UVB irradiations, we determined whether the inhibition of elastase activity in vivo would prevent the damage of dermal elastic fibers and might eradicate wrinkle formation associated with the loss of skin elasticity. Because the major elastase in the skin under non-inflammatory onditions is skin fibroblast elastase, we used a specific inhibitor of that enzyme to assess its biological role in wrinkle formation. The hind limb skins of Sprague-Dawley rats or hairless mice were irradiated with UVB at a suberythemal dose 3 times a week for 6 weeks. During that period, 0.1-10.0 mM N-phenetylphosphonyl-leucyl-tryptophane (NPLT), an inhibitor of skin fibroblast elastase, was applied topically 5 times a week. NPLT application at concentrations of 0.1-1.0 mM eradicated wrinkle formation in a dose-dependent manner, with a peak for inhibition at 1.0mM. This inhibition was accompanied by a continued low tortuosity of dermal elastic fibers and a maintenance of skin elasticity. These findings suggest that skin fibroblast elastase plays an essential role in the degeneration and /or tortuosity of elastic fibers induced by cumulative UVB irradiation and that its inhibition would provide a desirable model for preventing sun-induced wrinkling. 歯原性腫瘍は歯を形成する組織細胞から発生する口腔領域に特化した腫瘍である.腫瘍細胞の由来によって腫瘍は大きく上皮性,混合性,非上皮性の3 種に分けられる.文献的に最初に報告されたのは1746 年でPierre Fauchard により行われた.その後,Pierre Paul Broca そしてSir John Bland­Sutton が歯胚の構造に応じて歯原性腫瘍を分類している.当時,歯原性腫瘍は「odontome」という名称で表されていた.Ameloblastoma およびodontoma いう用語が使用されたのは,それぞれ1930 年代および1950 年代である.WHO が歯原性腫瘍の分類を世に表したのは1971 年に書籍を刊行したときである.その後,WHO は 1992 年,2005 年,そして2017 年に改訂版をそれぞれ発刊している.1992 年までは歯原性腫瘍のみを単独で出版していたが,2005 年版からは頭頸部腫瘍の中に含めたかたちで刊行している.2005 年版では,それまで囊胞として扱われていた歯原性角化囊胞および石灰化歯原性囊胞の2 病変がそれぞれ角化囊胞性歯原性腫瘍および石灰化囊胞性歯原性腫瘍として扱われた.しかし,2017 年版では腫瘍から囊胞へ戻り角化囊胞性歯原性腫瘍および石灰化囊胞性歯原性腫瘍の名称は消滅し,それぞれ歯原性角化囊胞および石灰化歯原性囊胞として扱われることになった.このほかにも歯牙エナメル上皮腫,エナメル上皮象牙質腫およびエナメル上皮線維歯牙腫の病名も消滅し,それらはすべて歯牙腫として扱うことになった. 一方,本学附属病院における病理組織診断を1994 年1 月から開始し,2016 年末で20,000 件を超える病理組織標本を扱ってきた.最も頻度の高い症例は囊胞性病変であり,次いで癌腫性,炎症性および歯原性の病変であるが,歯原性腫瘍の頻度は少ない.小切片では病理組織学的に囊胞と単胞性エナメル上皮腫の診断は必ずしも容易ではない.しかし,全割面の標本では診断は容易である.

The hair straightening method applying heat-treatment with glyoxylic acid (GA) at about 180 ̊C was studied. Straightening effect was estimated by shampooing test. The stress-strain relationship of GA/heattreated hair was also studied. It was revealed that from the WAXS, DSC study and stress-strain characteristics of treated sample, new crosslinking is introduced into the rod region of the intermediate filament (IF), a slight decrease in the degree of crystallinity but an increase in the thermal stability of the α-crystallites. The initial modulus and extensional work of the treated sample were markedly increased as compared to untreated sample. It was demonstrated that such large internal stress accumulated in the keratin network chain disappeared by relaxation treatment in water at 52 ̊C for 1 h. A part of the new cross-linking is destroyed when the treated hair is extended, but residual stable cross-linking to extension contributes to increase of initial modulus of the hair. Study of SAXS showed that the interspace distance between IFs increased about twice as much as the value of untreated sample. SEM observation shows that oblateness of the hair decreased by 10%, and cross-sectional shape changed from elliptical shape to circular shape which followed by increase of cross-sectional area. This phenomenon was considered to be due to the stress relaxation occurring in shampooing process throughout the cleavage of SS bonds located interfacial region between hard IF and soft KAP materials in water. Shampooing test of GA/heat-treated sample showed excellent set-ability. It was concluded that introduction of GA crosslinks into IF rod region resulted in a modified IF with higher modulus of elasticity than that of untreated hair, which means that the increase of resilience maintains the straight conformation exhibiting excellent straightening effect.

「モノそのもの」であることを表現する言語の構築を目指す新物質主義の思想にのっとり,数学概念のモノ化を目指す。数学は特定の指示対象をもたぬ極めて抽象的な言語であるだけに,逆に人間という「モノそのもの」の内奥から湧き出,それを映し出している言語であると考えるからだ。具体的な対象として,実数,虚数を合わせすべての数を表示する複素平面を取りあげる。認識論的存在論から話を起こし,実数を自己に,虚数を他者になぞらえて解釈する。当初は「あちら」と「こちら」という原始的世界他者意識が,のちに両者が交叉し,中間に「自己」意識を結ぶ。自己とは他者=世界の後付けで生まれたものである。通念とは逆行するこの虚数から実数へという流れを,複素平面のなかに読み込む。こうした観点から,オイラーの公式,さらにはリーマン予想にまで言及する。

The thermal decomposition of ammonium thiocyanate (NH4SCN) was studied by thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis, and mass spectrometry. It occurred in the temperature range from 400 to 530 K. The decomposition products contained NH3, CS2, H2S, and HNCS gases. Rare-earth oxides were reacted with these gases at 1273 K for 8 h in order to prepare rare-earth sulfides. The single tetragonal β-La2S3 phase was formed after the sulfurization of La2O3. In contrast, the single orthorhombic α-Gd2S3 phase was formed after the sulfurization of Gd2O3. These powders were consolidated by pressure-assisted sintering to fabricate the thermoelectric elements.
