We describe the natural recovery from the aggravated hypertension, hypokalemia and suppression of the renin-aldosterone axis after the glycyrrhizin discontinuation in two mild hypertensive women aged 71 and 68 years, who had been administered 273 to 546mg glycyrrhizin daily for 1.5 and 6 months, respectively, for the treatment of liver disease. About one month after the glycyrrhizin discontinuation, acceleration of hypertension, hypokalemia and suppression of the renin-aldosterone system still continued in both patients. At this stage, sodium restriction resulted in the normalization of blood pressure with weight loss and the subsequent sodium repletion produced a rapid increase in blood pressure to hypertensive levels observed before sodium restriction, with weight gain. Plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone were low and did not respond to sodium restriction. Inappropriately excessive amounts of potassium were also excreted in the presence of hypokalemia. About one and a half months later, the improvements of aggravated hypertension, hypokalemia and suppressed renin-aldosterone system gradually occurred in both patients. Sodium restriction performed about three months later in case 2 no longer produced the changes in blood pressure and body weight. Plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone responded subnormally to sodium restriction.These results demonstrate that both patients had a prolongation of the syndrome resembling primary aldosteronism except the low plasma aldosterone level about one month after the glycyrrhizin discontinuation. The possible mechanisms by which this prolongation was caused are discussed.

We investigated the IgE reactivity to crude and purified milk antigens in the sera of 112 dogs with cutaneous adverse food reactions (CAFRs). Of the 112 dogs, 33 (29%) had specific IgE for crude milk antigens. In the dogs with milk-specific IgE, IgE reactivity to casein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), α-lactalbumin, β-lactoglobulin, and bovine IgG were 81%, 85%, 39%, 27%, and 35%, respectively. Casein and BSA may be important allergens in dogs with CAFRs. Some canine vaccines contain casein hydrolysate as a stabilizer and the pooled serum with anti-casein IgE showed IgE reactivity to the vaccines containing it. Information about IgE reactivity to casein in dogs with CAFRs could be useful for predicting adverse reactions to the vaccines including casein hydrolysate.

24歳齢のサラブレッド種の馬に膿性鼻汁の排出が慢性的に見られ, 蓄膿症と診断された. 抗生剤投与による治療が行われたが, 膿汁の排出は続いた. 鼻腔内の触診により右鼻腔内前縁に親指大の腫瘤が触知され, さらに腫瘤は鼻孔より突出するまでに増生伸長し, 鼻汁の排出も継続してみられた.また, 前頭部の膨隆も現れた.病理解剖の結果, 肉眼的に右鼻腔内において背鼻甲介粘膜がその全域 (縦2.5cm, 横7cm, 全長25cm) にかけて高度に肥厚するとともに, 黄色ゼリー状を呈しており, 末端部の肥厚部位は腫瘤状の形態を示し, 外鼻孔より突出していた.組織学的に, 腫瘤は粘液様物質の蓄積を伴う肉芽組織であり, 鼻ポリープと診断された.

本研究では,青年期前および青年期全般における自己愛と攻撃性の関係について横断的に検討するため,572名の小学生・中学生・高校生・大学生を対象に,NPI-SとBAQにより自己愛傾向と攻撃性を測定し,下位尺度を含めた両尺度間の相関を年齢群ごとに検討した。その結果,自己愛が高いと攻撃性も高くなるという,先行研究と一致した結果が得られたほか,これまであまり検討されていない発達的な側面についての知見も得ることができた。しかし新たな問題も見出されたため,今後検討すべき課題についても指摘した。

Imaging is an essential approach to understanding the physiological systems of organism. Luminescence imaging based on luciferase technology reveals biological phenomena from molecule to body by light. In this manuscript, we describe the characteristics of luminescence probes and lead to the world of a luminescence imaging.

The purpose of the present study is to examine aspects of creative regression from the viewpoint of ego boundary, sence of reality and superior sensation, which are supposed to be signposts of pathological regression.Based on the Graphic Rorschach test, I have newly developed a Digital Rorschach test, introducing an experimental examination for use on a tablet computer.On research focusing on artists, as the characteristic of Rorschach, the more total reaction numbers, more Dd%, less F+%, more Σc, more ΣC・SumC, more At% have appeared.As a result of using the Fisher and Cleveland (1958) "–body image boundaries score–", the artists group is found to have higher barrier and penetration scores as well. The aspects of permeable and impermeable ego boundaries were suggested by Landis (1970) as the "–resilience of boundaries–".Furthermore, as a result of dividing artists into three groups (musicians, painters, and performers), the musician group has a mostly equal B score and P score, the painter group has a higher B score, and the performer group has a higher P score. Also, it has been suggested that P score is related to concept-dominance – blot-dominance by D.G.R.In previous research, as the classified result of the concept-dominance of normal-adults, "the balance or imbalance between blot and concept" has mostly dominated. In this study, however, the Mx type "mixture imbalance between blot and concept," –which is not usually seen in normal-adults, has been seen in about 65 % of the artists group. The Mx type has been associated with schizophrenia.Finally, a qualitative view has been added based on the ideas of "–deviant verbalization–" and "–confabulation– ".
