近年,加速電圧が200 kVのクライオ電子顕微鏡を使用した単粒子解析で複数のタンパク質構造が3.0 Åより高い分解能で決定された.300 kVに対して200 kVの粒子画像コントラストは高いため,100 kDa未満のタンパク質でも大きなデフォーカス量や位相板を使用せずに高分解能構造を得ることができる.これは,200 kVが小さなタンパク質の構造決定により適していることを意味する.しかし,これまで発表された近原子分解能構造の大多数は300 kVを使用したものである.そこで本講座では,特にコントラスト伝達関数に関連する入力パラメータを見直し,200 kVデータセットに最適なボックスサイズと粒子マスク直径を見つけるための理論と決定手順を紹介したい.また,デフォーカス分布を考慮してこの二つの設定値を最適化するだけで,200 kDa未満のタンパク質の単粒子解析で3.0 Å前後の分解能から顕著な向上を得た実例も紹介する.

A method was established to estimate the pH change of several buffer solutions on freezing by using a combination of pH indicators. Among more than 30 buffer solutions examined, almost half exhibited a pH change in the temperature range between freezing point and 220°K; the results were tabulated. Glycerol was found to suppress the pH changes because of its “salt buffer” effect.

The paper reports the results of the cause investigations of the suspended ceiling collapse, in the auditorium of Kudan Kaikan, which occurred during the off the pacific of Tohoku earthquake on March 11th, 2011. In part1, the detection of the mechanical behavior and process of the collapse of the ceiling are described, while the structural identification and the historical documentations of it are reported in the part 2.

円滑なコミュニケーションを行うために,話し手と聞き手との間の人間関係により,ことばの選択が行われる.本稿は,「相手との心理的距離感」をあまり感じさせない対人コミュニケーションについて,ブラウン&レヴィンソンの主としてポジティブ・ポライトネスおよび「フェイス侵害度」を理論的根拠として,日英語間に見られるコミュニケーションの差異についても念頭に置き考察を加えた.具体的な事例分析について,第1に着目した点は,相手との心理的距離を縮める呼称および人称代名詞である.第2点は相手との心理的距離を縮める付加疑問,命令文,および現在分詞などの文法構造である.そして,第3点目は,積極的表現,欠点を表明する表現,そして相手の視点から見る呼びかけ語を用いた表現について,日英語における表現の差異について分析を試みた.

ラーキンの「広く感じのいい店」は,1961年6月18日に完成し,詩集『降臨節の婚礼』に収められる。5行1連の4連構成,僅か20行の短詩であり,詩人の住んでいたハルにある百貨店が舞台となっている。先ず,その店で売られている安物衣類を観察しながら,詩人は労働者階級の社会における立場の向上によって引き起こされた,階級間のボーダレス化を嘆いている。次に女性物の夜着を詳細に観察しながら,詩人は量産化される労働者階級の生活様式,その本質の軽薄さを批判する。その後の瞑想では,プラトニックな恋愛を擁護すると共に,肉体的な愛のみを重視する女性達を非難している。同時に階級間のボーダレス化は女性によって引き起こされたとも指摘し,女性の家庭,社会での立場が強くなったことに警告を発している。更にはこの詩の中には詩人の性的関心,自慰的衝動も確かに存在している。最終部分に出てくる「恍惚」とは,セックスにおける恍惚状態,階級が上がったと錯覚すること,自慰における射精と多義的に解釈できる。しかし,いずれの場合も「合成的で,真新しく,本質が欠如している」。店で売られている商品を見て回るというありふれた内容の詩ではあるが,そこに隠された詩人の意図は複雑である。少なくとも,プラトニックな恋愛を擁護する詩人の建前の奥には,薄手で派手な色のベビードールやショーティをじっくりと観察し,場合によっては勃起すらしているかもしれない詩人の姿を読み取らねばいけない。Larkin's The Large Cool Store' was finished on June 18, 1961, and then included in The Whitsun Weddings (1964). It is just a 20-line poem which consists of 4 stanzas, each 5 lines, and its scene is set at a department store in Hull, the city in the middle-east England where the poet lived until his death. First, the poet observes "cheap clothes" sold at the store, and he deplores the borderlessness among the classes which was caused by the rise of the social status of the working class. Next, the poet observes "Baby-Dolls and Shorties" in detail, and he criticizes the mass-produced life style of the working class and its frivolity. And then, in his meditation, the poet supports Platonic love and criticizes women who only prefer sensual love. At the same time, the poet thinks the borderlessness among classes is also caused by women, and cautions against the rise in domestic and social status. Further more, it is clear that the poet expresses sexual interest and masturbatory impulse in the poem. The word "ecstasies" in the last line can be interpreted in various ways:a sexual ecstasy in their literal sense, an illusion of the working class people that they must be in a class higher than what they are, and an ejaculation after masturbation. However, whichever interpretation you take, it is just "synthetic, new, and natureless". Although this poem has the ordinary context that the poet looks around a department store, it also has the hidden complex intention of the poet. At least, we readers should conceive that, though the poet supports Platonic love, it is just his principle, so in fact, he must have an erection when he stares at the thin, gaudy-coloured "Baby-Dolls and Shorties".

<p>Two Scottish Fold mixed cats are described in this report. Case 1 is a mixed Scottish Fold and Munchkin cat. Extremities of this cat resembled the Munchkin cat, while the ear pinna were folded forward like the Scottish Fold cat. Case 2 is a mixed Scottish Fold and American Curl cat. The ear pinna were curled caudally like the American Curl. Severe exostosis in the hind leg was observed in radiographs taken around one year of age in both cats. Both cats were dominant homozygous for c.1024G>T of the <i>transient receptor potential vanilloid 4</i> gene, responsible for osteochondrodysplasia in the Scottish Fold cat. Cross breeding with Scottish Fold cats could produce unknown phenotypes, and should be avoided.</p>
