As one of mechanisms of the influence of variability in solar activity on the global climate, the atmospheric ionization by reaction of the galactic cosmic rays with atmosphere has an important role. A correlation between the galactic cosmic-ray intensity and the global cloud cover has been observed and a hypothesis is suggested that the variability in the solar activity controls global climate through the cosmic rays. It is necessary to clarify the mechanism of the correlation as well as verification of observed quantities. Here we describe how the cosmic rays produce aerosol particles, which originate cloud condensation nuclei. We also introduce the present status of laboratory experiments to verify these processes.

実践の概要 『地区マップ』というと今までは、模造紙など紙面を利用したものや大きな板を活用したもの等があった。しかし、情報の更新や写真等の貼り付けなどに限界があり、継続的な地域教材としては活用が難しい面があった。 そこで、Webページ形式を用いた『デジタル地区マップ』の作成を前任校で行った。これにより、たくさんの画像などやカテゴリーなど情報量を増やすことができたことと児童のパソコンに対しての取組の良さが重なり、児童の地区に対する興味関心を高めることにつながっていった。 今年度、この環境マップに地図の学習がプラスすることができるのでGISを活用することを試みた。具体的な内容は、次の2点とした。(1)桃井小の近くの施設や児童の活動の場になっている場所の紹介(図1)(2)県内等で、校外学習の場になっている施設の紹介その際、作成したGIS環境マップを本校webページの1カテゴリーに加えることで保護者等にも閲覧可能とした。 桃井小学校Webページ http://www.momonoi-es.menet.ed.jp/教材の活用例 環境マップは、以下の学年、教科で利用できる。・小学校第2学年 生活科『まちたんけん』・小学校第3学年 社会科『地域めぐり』『市内めぐり』・小学校第5学年 国語・社会科『地域のニュースの発信』・全学年 校外学習事前学習 また、授業の中での活用例として2点あげる。(1)導入での活用・生活科や社会科における地区学習・校外学習事前ガイダンス(2)まとめでの活用・身近な地域のことやニュースにしたことを「GIS環境マップ」上にアップする。研究の成果 以下の2点を考えた。(1)自分の地区をより正確な地図でみることができたので、児童の興味・関心が高まった。また、本校児童の活動写真もあるということでやる気もわいてきたようだ。(2)調べたことがインターネットを通して発表できたことで、充実感が味わえたとともに、地図上にアップできたことで地区に対する愛着も感じられたようである。今後の課題 実践を終えてみての課題を以下にあげる。(1)小学生にとって複雑な操作もあるので、児童向けマニュアルなどがあるとより効果的な使い道がでてくると思われる。(2)Webカテゴリーということで、保護者への地区情報の提供にもなるので、保護者からもアップした方がよい情報を聞き、ツーウェイ化を図っていきたい。(3)今回作成した「GIS環境マップ」は、様々な教科・学年での活用も考えられるのでこれからも情報の更新をしていくなどして充実を図っていきたい。

スマートフォンの普及と高度化に伴い,位置情報サービスの需要が高まっている.正確なレストラン検索や推薦を提供するためには,位置や営業時間などの店舗情報を計算機で処理可能な形式で記述しておく必要がある.しかし一部の店舗では,閉店時間が正確に定まっておらず,時刻形式で記述されていない場合がある.本研究では,閉店時間の定まっていないレストランを位置情報サービスで利用可能にするためのクラウドソーシングシステムを提案する.複数のユーザはレストランの閉店間際に訪れ,本システムを通じて店舗が開いていたか閉まっていたかを投稿する.蓄積された投稿情報は閉店時間の推定に用いられる.

軟体動物門に属するイシガイ類二枚貝(イシガイ目:Unionoida)は世界各地の河川や湖沼に広く生息し国内では18種が報告されている。特に流水生の種は土地利用の変化や河川改修の影響で国内外種ともにその生息範囲の縮小および種多様性の低下が懸念されている。これまで国内でイシガイ類に関する様々な優れた知見が蓄積されているが、その多くが基礎生態の観点から行われたものである。特に北米地域では高いイシガイ類の種多様性(約280種)を背景にして、基礎から応用にいたる様々な有用な研究事例が報告されており、イシガイ類の分布に影響を与える環境条件として、洪水時における生息場所の水理条件や、宿主魚類の分布が重要であることが明らかにされつつある。また、その生態的機能も評価され、底生動物群集や水質に大きな影響を持つ可能性も指摘されている。既往のイシガイ類二枚貝に関する生態学的研究の整理から、国内では、稚貝の生態や餌資源等に関する基礎的研究、さらに好適生息場所環境条件や生態的機能等に関する応用的側面からの研究が不十分であることが明らかになった。イシガイ類を介して成立する陸水生態系全体の保全のためこれらの分野における研究の進展が必要であることを示した。

In January 2016, a 20-year-old female oriental small-clawed otter (Aonyx cinereus) from Night Safari in Singapore was euthanized and diagnosed with a thyroid gland carcinoma. Postmortem examination and histology also revealed metastasis to the regional lymph nodes and severe visceral pentastomiasis. Grossly, the lymph nodes were infested, and encapsulation was observed on the visceral serosal surface. Histopathologically, the lymph nodes were encysted by a thick fibrous connective capsule with minimal inflammatory response. Pentastomiasis has been previously reported in the smooth-coated otter (Lutrogale perspicillata) in Malaysia. This report is the first case of severe visceral pentastomiasis in an oriental small-clawed otter with functional thyroid carcinoma.

Previously, our group demonstrated that recombinant porcine oviductin (pOVGP1) binds to the zona pellucida (ZP) of in vitro-matured (IVM) porcine oocytes with a positive effect on in vitro fertilization (IVF). The fact that pOVGP1 was detected inside IVM oocytes suggested that this protein had a biological role during embryo development. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of pOVGP1 on bovine in vitro embryo development. We applied 10 or 50 µg/ml of pOVGP1 during IVF, embryonic in vitro culture (IVC), or both, to evaluate cleavage and embryo development. Blastocyst quality was assessed by analyzing the expression of important developmental genes and the survival rates after vitrification/warming. pOVGP1 was detected in the ZP, perivitelline space, and plasma membrane of blastocysts. No significant differences (P > 0.05) were found in cleavage or blastocyst yield when 10 or 50 µg/ml of pOVGP1 was used during IVF or IVC. However, when 50 µg/ml pOVGP1 was used during IVF + IVC, the number of blastocysts obtained was half that obtained with the control and 10 µg/ml pOVGP1 groups. The survival rates after vitrification/warming of expanded blastocysts cultured with pOVGP1 showed no significant differences between groups (P > 0.05). The use of pOVGP1 during IVF, IVC, or both, increased the relative abundance of mRNA of DSC2, ATF4, AQP3, and DNMT3A, the marker-genes of embryo quality. In conclusion, the use of pOVGP1 during bovine embryo in vitro culture does not affect embryo developmental rates but produces embryos of better quality in terms of the relative abundance of specific genes.

A 4-week-old female Holstein Friesian calf presented with hindlimb paresis. Neurologic examination of spinal reflexes revealed depressed or absent reflexes of the hindlimbs. Menace responses on both sides disappeared on examination of cranial nerves. The calf was finally diagnosed with Neospora caninum infection by pathological findings including nonsuppurative inflammation associated with cysts in the cerebrum and spinal cord. High levels of antibody against recombinant surface antigen 1 of N. caninum (NcSAG1) were detected by ELISA from both serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples. This result suggests that detection of antibodies against N. caninum by NcSAG1-ELISA in serum and CSF could be useful for the clinical diagnosis of neosporosis in calves with acquired neurological signs.

A seven-month-old female domestic shorthaired cat was presented for buphthalmos in the right eye and corneal cloudiness in the left eye. Full ophthalmic examinations were performed for both eyes and enucleation was done for the right nonvisual eye. Congenital glaucoma caused by anterior segment dysgenesis was confirmed for the right eye. In the left eye, slit-lamp examination revealed focal corneal edema with several iris strands from iris collarette to the affected posterior corneal surfaces. Circular posterior corneal defect was suggested to be the cause of edema. Goniodysgenesis, additionally, was identified. Taken together, the diagnosis of Peters’ anomaly which is a subtype of anterior segment dysgenesis was suggested in the left eye.

Two dogs presented to the emergency service after accidental ingestion of afloqualone tablets, a muscle relaxant used for back pain in humans. Toxic effects of the drug in these dogs included vomiting, respiratory depression, seizures, ataxia, bradycardia, and hematuria. Treatment consisted of fluid diuresis, furosemide, and propofol. Flumazenil, a gamma-amino butyric acid antagonist, was administered intravenously; however, it was not effective in stopping the seizures in these dogs. Both dogs recovered with supportive treatment. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first documented report of afloqualone intoxication in dogs.
