現時点において、「確度の高い地震予知は困難」というのが科学的な見解である。しかし昨今では、民間による地震予知・予測情報が注目を集めている。そのなかには、例えば、国土地理院が観測・公開しているデータを用いていることから、一見すると科学的な手法による予知・予測と思われてしまうものもある。マグニチュード6以上の大きな地震を予測する場合であっても、数多くの警告を発していれば地震を的中させることができるであろう。そして、多くの場合、マスコミは地震を言い当てた事例だけを紹介するため、人々はその地震予知・予測が当たっていると信じてしまうのである。これは人々が誤った判断をしてしまう典型的なケースである。本発表では、巷にあふれる地震予知・予測情報に対して、一般の人々がどのように接すれば正しい判断ができるのか、地震予知・予測情報そのものと、それを宣伝するメディアの2つのリテラシーについて議論する。

Little is known about the acceptance and actual uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and associated factors in men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. This study is the baseline survey of an intervention study designed to evaluate the effectiveness of tenofovirdisoproxil fumarate (TDF) on a daily use for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention among MSM in Shanghai, China. From October 2012 to December 2013, a total of 1,033 MSM in Shanghai were recruited by local district Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and a MSM community-based non-governmental organization (NGO). Among them, 197 (19.1%) participants expressed willingness to use the TDF group at baseline survey, but only 26 (2.5%) participated in the TDF group and took TDF one tablet a day. Higher willingness to use PrEP was associated with being 45 years or older, non-local residents, having more male sex partners in the past 6 months and not using condom at last anal sex with man. Acutal uptake of PrEP was associated with having ≥ 11 male sex partners in lifetime and reporting no female sex partners in lifetime. Reasons for not participating in TDF group among those who expressed willingness to use PrEP at baseline survey included loss of contact, ineligiblity because of abnormal results for liver or renal function tests, change of mind, and HIV seroconversion before uptake of PrEP. Our findings suggest that promotion of PrEP in MSM remains challenging at current circumstancein China. Future research is needed to solicit effective education and intervention programs to promote acceptance of PrEP among Chinese MSM.

Berberine is a benzyl tetra isoquinoline alkaloid which is widely used as an antimicrobial and an antidiarrhoeal. As berberine containing plants are virtually used in all forms of traditional medicine, our study aimed to examine the antioxidant activity of berberine using 2,2-diphenyl 1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, nitric oxide scavenging, lipid peroxidation, superoxide scavenging, iron chelating activity and 2,2-azino bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS) radical scavenging methods. The IC50 values for all the models were calculated by regression analysis. In all the models tested, berberine showed its ability to scavenge the free radicals in a concentration dependent manner. The present study thereby justifies the therapeutic potential of berberine.

日本において情報交換の基盤になるのが,文字情報交換の仕組みである。文字情報基盤は,個人の氏名を正確かつ使いやすく実装する仕組みとして政府が整備してきており,フォントや画数などの文字情報等を,誰でも無料で利用できるように提供している。ツールへの実装,自治体への導入も進み始めており,多くの自治体では,従来もっていた外字の同定作業も実施している。国際標準への対応を進めるとともに,単に文字数を増やすのではなく,JISを活用した日常での簡易な活用方法を提案する等,今後の日本の社会の基盤となる仕組みといえる。本稿では,現在の取り組みとその将来展望について解説を行う。

1. 25 fluorescent lamps were set along the open water duct (Flgs. 1,2) of the Uji Water Power Plant. This duct, followed by the blind duct (water tunnel), conducts the water from the Nango Dam (Seta-gawa) to the Uji Power Plant. The duct (the open part as well as the blind part) is inhabited by a number of net-spinning caddis-fly larvae, the nets and cases of which resist the water flow, so that the efficiency of the power plant is reduced, generally by 10 per cent or more. 2. The caddis-flies caught at the lamps in the night of July 5〜6 1955 were studied. Samples were taken from No. 1 lamp (sample A) and from No. 25 lamp (sample B) ; the former is situated at the top of the duct, i.e. nearest to the Seta-gawa, the latter is at about 650 meters distance from No.1 lamp and at the entrance of the tunnel. Only 1/30 of each sample was calculated, as is shown in Table 1. 3. Hydropsyche nakaharai, which in its larval stage is the principal inhabitant of the duct, occupies 51.4 per cent of sample A and 93.6 per cent of sample B of the total caddis-flies. 4. Number of ♀ caught at light is far greater than that of ♂, especially in the species, Hydropsyche nakaharai and Macronema radiatum. This result is based upon the different strengths of phototropism in both sexes, because the true sex-ratio examined on the pupae in the water was almost 1 : 1. 5. Of 220 Hydropsyche nakaharai-females caught at light 189 (85.9%) had egg-masses; of 210 Macronema radiatum-females 161 (76.7%) had egg-masses. 6. Sample A contained more such caddis-flies in percentage, that emerged from the Seta-gawa, than sample B.

Transgender people are at high risk of sexually transmitted viruses such as hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Moreover, Indonesia has a moderate to high rate of HBV infection and a rapid epidemic growth of HIV. Because hepatitis C virus (HCV) can co-occur with HBV and HIV, it was also evaluated in this study. Ten of 107 individuals (9.3%) were Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positive and/or HBV DNA positive, whereas nineteen of 101 individuals (18.8%) with negative HBsAg were Hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc)-positive. Seven of 107 individuals (6.5%) were anti-HCV positive, and sixteen of 100 tested samples (16%) were HIV positive. Genotype and subtype analyses of all ten HBV DNA (six HBsAg positive and four anti-HBc positive) strains showed that three were HBV genotype/HBsAg subtype C/adrq+, one was C/adw2, and five were B/adw2. The HCV subtype distribution showed that 33.3% were HCV-1b, and 66.7% were HCV-3k (n=6). These distributions differed from those found in the general population of Surabaya, Indonesia. The HIV subtype analysis showed that, interestingly, a high prevalence of HIV, with possible recombinants of CRF01_AE and subtype B, were found.

Plinio dice che il vestito tinto con la porpora, ottenuta dalla sostanza dei molluschi (murex o purpura) che vivono lungo la costa mediterranea orientale, era molto apprezzato dagli imperatori nell'antichita romana. Pero nel Medioevo, questa tintura che richiedeva tempo e denaro, era andata gradualmente declinando eccetto che a Costantinopoli e a Palermo, per poi scomparire definitivamente nel 1453 quando l'impero cadde in mano ai Turchi. Infatti, alcuni manuali di tintoria del Quattro e Cinquecento (come il Trattato dell'arte della seta edito da Girolamo Gargiolli, il manoscritto 4.4.1. della Civica Biblioteca di Como, e il Plictho di Giovan Ventura Rosetti ecc.) e la Pratica della mercatura (ca. 1310-1340) di Francesco Balducci Pegolotti non menzionano neppure la porpora. Nonostante tutto, la passione della gente per il rosso era rimasta invariata. Molte pagine dei suddetti manuali erano dedicate alla tintura delle diverse tonalita del rosso: rosato, paonozzo, scarlatto, chermisi, sanguigno, cardinalesco, ecc. E riferiscono che per ottenere questi colori, si usavano il chermes o la grana, insetti parassiti delle quercie, la robbia e il verzino dell'Asia sud-orientale al posto della porpora. Anche queste sostanze coloranti erano generalmente molto costose. I vestiti tinti di rosso in questo modo erano piu preziosi di quelli di altri colori, percio erano indossati principalmente dai nobili ricchi. Ad esempio, nell'inventario di Puccio Pucci, che faceva parte della cerchi di Cosimo de'Medici, redatto nel 1449, c'erano molti vestiti sui toni del rosso. Ed anche i medici e gli intellettuali che anelavano al potere politico e finanziario dei nobili, preferivano questo colore. Il Boccaccio descrive in tono vivace i giudici, i medici e i notai, con <<gli scarlatti>>, che da Bologna tornano a Firenze (Decameron, VIII9). Nelle opere letterarie allegoriche, in cui spesso i colori dei vestiti dei personaggi hanno un ruolo importante, il rosso e tradizionalmente il colore dell'abito della persona simboleggiante la carita (p.e. Purgatorio, XXIX, vv. 122-23). Ma nel Trecento, alcuni autori come Francesco da Barberino danno a questo colore qualche nuovo significato- l'industria, la discrezione, la fortezza, ecc.-, senza badare troppo alla tradizione. Secondo Le Blason des couleurs di Sicille (ca. 1458), uno dei trattati sui colori del basso Medioevo, che ci mostra molti dei loro significati simbolici, it rosso (vermeil) significa Haultesse, Hardiesse, Sanguin, Feu, Este, ecc., ed e considerato come il colore primo e piu importante. Fino a quando il nero sara esaltato dagli uomini di Stato, dai moralisti o da qualche letterato nel Cinquecento, il rosso dominera come "re" dei colori.Il rosso, che era un colore "basso" dal punto di vista morale fino alla meta del Medioevo, avera poi ereditato le porprieta del color propora -la nobilta, il potere, la ricchezza, ecc.-, ed era stato nobilitato. Si puo dire, senza paura di esagerare, che la tecnica della tintura del rosso aveva fatto passi da gigante e che erano state inventate tante tonalita perche sia i produttori che i consumatori avevano nostalgia del color porpora, che era molto ricercato nell'antichita.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Kinesio taping on the joint position sense of the ankle. [Subjects and Methods] The subjects of this study were 26 nomal adults who had experienced ankle sprain. Kinesio taping was applied over the ankle medial ligament and ankle lateral ligament with eight pattern reinforcement taping. Joint position sense was measured using isokinetic equipment (Biodex System 4 pro dynamometer, Biodex Medical systems Inc., USA) during dorsiflexion/plantarflexion and inversion/eversion, before and after taping. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 21.0 for Windows. [Results] Joint position sense after Kinesio taping was improved in the dorsiflexion and inversion positions. [Conclusion] According to the results of this study, Kinesio taping of the ankle is effective for the prevention of ankle sprain.
