Two sex pheromones of the American cockroach, periplanone A and B, have been isolated by Persoons et al. The structure of the latter was proposed by the same authors, and then its stereostructure including the absolute configuration was unambiguously determined by its synthesis. Furthermore, the structure (1) of periplanone A has been proposed by Persoons et al., on the basis of its spectral data together with some chemical evidence, but the stereochemistry was not known. In order to elucidate the structure of periplanone A, the authors have synthesized two possible hydroazulenones (5 and 6) from germacrene-D by using biomimetic transannular reactions as a key step. However, the spectral data of synthetic compounds were entirely different from those of natural one. Therefore, the ^1H NMR and IR spectral data of periplanone A and its rearrangement product were reexamined, consequently, the structures of both compounds were found to be resembled each other. Clearly, the structure of periplanone A, which is quite labile as compared with the rearrangement product, seems to be represented by one of the possible decalones (I or II), while the latter must be depicted by III or IV. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the coupling constants based on the conformations I and III, obtained from molecular mechanics calculations, were compatible with the observed ones for periplanone A and rearrangement product, respectively. Thus, the stereostructure of periplanone A was elucidated as I.

From a biogenetic point of view, many sesquiterpenes are considered to be derived from germacrenes or germacrones as an important precurser, and their conformations have been discussed in connection with their transannular reactions as well as with thermal isomeizations. Thus, molecular mechanics calculations were successfully carried out to evaluate relative stabilities of each conformation of several germacrenes in their ground states and transition states. Particularly, molecular mechanics calculation was carried out successfully in the case of thermal reaction of acoragermacrone, and also attempted for the acid-catalyzed reaction of preisocalamendiol leading to the formation of isocalamendiol, although the result so far obtained was not necessarily satisfied. On the basis of the above results, acid and base-catalyzed reactions of epoxygermacrene-D were carried out to give many interesting compounds similar to oppositol, axisonitrile-1, periplanone-A, junenol and so on. Reaction process of these compounds is also presented.

"Manju (a steam bean-jum bun)" is one of the popular confectioneries pervading all over Japan. It is commonly produced by appropriate steaming a dough of wheat-flour wrapping "an (bean-jum)." On the other hand, "Umegae-mochi" is the special product in Fukuoka. It is produced by baking a dough of glutinous rice flour wrapping "an" in a mold of shape of plum-flower. Regarding respective 5 brands, sensory test and chemical analysis were carried out in order to give some useful guidances for consumers' daily life. Well-known 5 brands of "Manju" in Fukuoka is divided into 2 types of "Dorayaki" and "Kasutera-manju." The former has the following constituents: moisture 27.9~34.0; protein 5.4~5.8; fat 1.0~2.2; starch 58.0~62.9; fiber 0.9~1.0; ash 0.4~0.6; calorie 267~298 Cal. The latter is composed of moisture 21.6~23.5; protein 6.4~6.7; fat 1.3~2.9; starch 66.2~68.7; fiber 0.6~1.2; ash 0.5; calorie 313~318 Cal. On the other hand, chemical analysis of 5 brands of "Umegae-mochi" indicates the following composition: moisture 31.8~39.5; protein 5.1~5.8; fat 0.1; starch 27.0~34.3; sugar 22.0~33.7; fiber 0.6~0.9; ash 0.4; calorie 241~272 Cal. No artificial sweetnesses and preservatives were detected at all. However, artificial pigment, yellow No. 4, was qualitatively detected in 1 brand of "Manju" and that, red No. 2, in 2 brands of "Umegae-mochi." Since standard deviation over F005 was estimated among panels of 7 common house-wives and 3 skillful clerks in the department stores, reliable results of sensory test could obtained for neither "Manju" nor "Umegae-mochi."福岡県内産の代表的銘柄のマンジュウおよび梅ヶ枝餅それぞれ5銘柄を任意に購入L,官能テストおよび理化学テストを行なつた.マンジュウはドラ焼キとカステラマンジュウとの両タイプに分けられたが,その一般成分は前者において,水分31.0%,蛋白質5.6%,脂質1.6%,澱粉60.5%,繊維0.95%,灰分0.5%,熱量285カロリー,後者において,水分22.7%,蛋白質6.5%,脂質1.9%,澱粉67.6%,繊維0.9%,灰分0.5%,熱量315カロリーであつて,いずれも対照(成分表)にくらべ水分含量は低く炭水化物およびカロリー値は高い傾向がある.人工甘味料および保存料は検出されなかつたが,着色料は黄色4号が1銘柄に使用されていた.一方梅ヶ枝餅の成分は水分35.2%,蛋白質5.5%,脂質0.1%,澱粉29.6%,糖分28.5%,繊維0.8%,灰分0.4%,熱量258カロリーであつた.これにも人工甘味料および保存料は検:出されなかつたが,赤色2号の使用が2銘柄に認められた.マンジュウ,梅ヶ枝餅ともに官能テストのすべての項目においてパネル間に有意差があり,正確な嗜好の傾向は求められなかつた.

Intravesical drug delivery by cationic liposomes (Cat-LPs) represents a potent nanotechnology for enhancing therapeutic effects against bladder disorders. However, preventing the aggregation of Cat-LPs in urine poses a significant barrier. We report on an examination of the effect of modifying liposomes with polyethylene glycol (PEG) lipids to prevent Cat-LPs from aggregating in human urine. Although Cat-LPs underwent significant aggregation in human urine, introducing 5 mol% of PEG2k lipid or 2 mol% of PEG5k lipid completely inhibited the aggregation of the Cat-LPs. When 2 mol% of PEG2k lipids were introduced, the lipid structures of 1,2-distearoly-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DSPE) and 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycerol (DSG) greatly prevented aggregation compared with cholesterol. By contrast, when Cat-LPs, after incubation in urine, were exposed to bladder cancer cells, only introducing cholesteryl-PEG into the Cat-LPs showed a significant enhancement in cellular uptake. These results offer the potential for incorporating cholesteryl-PEG into Cat-LPs for achieving both stability in urine and effective cellular uptake.

Linezolid (1) is an oxazolidinone antibiotic that is partially metabolized in vivo via ring cleavage of its morpholine moiety to mainly form two metabolites, PNU-142300 (2) and PNU-142586 (3). It is supposed that accumulation of 2 and 3 in patients with renal insufficiency may cause thrombocytopenia, one of the adverse effects of linezolid. However, the poor availability of 2 and 3 has hindered further investigation of the clinical significance of the accumulation of these metabolites. In this paper, we synthesized metabolites 2 and 3 via a common synthetic intermediate, 4; this will encourage further exploration of events related to these metabolites and lead to improved clinical use of linezolid.

Background:Both dexmedetomidine and hypothermia are known to reduce brain injury following ischemia. We examined whether a combination of dexmedetomidine and hypothermia reduce brain injury after asphyxial cardiac arrest in rats to a greater extent than either treatment. Methods:Male SD rats were assigned to one of four groups(n = 7 each);control (C, saline and temporal muscle temperature 37.5℃), dexmedetomidine (D, dexmedetomidine 10μg/kg and 37.5℃), hypothermia (H, saline and 35.0℃), and dexmedetomidine - hypothermia (DH, dexmedetomidine 10μg/kg and 35.0℃). Dexmedetomidine or saline was administered intraperitoneally 30 min before insult. Predetermined temperature was maintained from 30 min before asphyxia until 60 min after resuscitation. Cerebral ischemia was induced with asphyxia of 5 min, resulting in cardiac arrest of about 2 min. Rats were resuscitated by chest compression and intravenous epinephrine. Neurological score was assessed at 24, 48, and 72 hours after insult, and brain was fixed and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Results:Neurological scores were greater in groups H and DH than groups C and D at 24 hours after insult (P < 0.05), whereas they were similar at 48 and 72 hours. Percentages of intact neurons in hippocampal CA1 were greater in groups D, H, and DH than group C (P < 0.05). Conclusions:Dexmedetomidine and hypothermia improved histologic outcome compared with the control group after asphyxial cardiac arrest, whereas the combination of dexmedetomidine and hypothermia provided comparable neuroprotection with either of two therapies alone.

This paper proposes the expat assessment system for global management personnel training utilizing the data mining employing evolutionary computation. This study follows the three steps. First step is to research those overseas temporary staff by direct hearing and having them answer the questionnaires. The second step is to make the data base with the results acquired from the step one. The third step is to construct the system to assess the prospective staff's aptitude or adaptability. The system would enable to promote the efficiency of assessment and to be useful in their training. This expat assessment system is built with the decision tree of evaluation standard based on the assorting problem solving method. For designing the non-terminal nodes of the decision tree, a new method is proposed utilizing the idea of the association rules, which is a powerful method in data mining. This is done to find out direct factors related to aptitude or suitability for overseas staff. The terminal nodes of the decision tree are to be optimized by Genetic Algorithm (GA) regarding a series of terminal nodes as the individuals forming the linear structure. As a result, the significant factors are found, which are strongly related to aptitude, adaptability and likeliness to be successful overseas. This research has revealed, by applying the system in practice, actual aptitude, skills and personalities required for expats.

自動車ナンバープレートは,その自動車に固有のものであり,その中に書かれている文字すべてを認識することで,全国で登録されているすべての自動車の中から1台の車両の特定を行うことができる.しかし従来の研究の多くはナンバープレート中の大きな数字4けた(一連指定番号)だけを認識するにとどまっており,犯罪捜査や盗難車の発見などの全国規模における完全な車両特定には不十分である.そこで本論文では,車両の前方から撮影した画像からナンバープレートを抽出して,その中に書かれている文字すべてを認識する手法を提案する.本手法はハフ変換とナンバープレートの形状特徴を用いてナンバープレート領域の抽出を行い,またナンバープレート内の文字の存在位置の特徴を用いて各文字を切り出して,認識を行っている.認識結果は,160枚のサンプル画像を用いて,ナンバープレートの抽出と文字切出しの成功をも含めた総合認識率87.5%という結果を得た.

ミラクル・クエスチョンはソリューション・フォーカスト・アプローチで用いられる有益な技法である.しかし,この技法に好反応を示さないクライエントがいる.本研究ではミラクル・クエスチョンの用い方に関する研究を展望し,ミラクル・クエスチョンを効果的に用いるための要点について考察した.ミラクル・クエスチョンを効果的に用いるためには,SFAの哲学の十分な理解と高度な面接スキルに基づいて,面接の過程において様々な取り組みを総合的に行わなければならないことが,本展望で示唆された.行うべきことには,特に,ミラクル・クエスチョンを尋ねる前に,それがクライエントに受け入れられやすくなるように慎重に準備することや,ミラクル・クエスチョンに対するクライエントの全ての応答をコンプリメントすることが含まれる.
