A 12-year-old, spayed female Schnauzer presented with constipation. A mass was observed in the pelvic cavity, and metastasis was not identified. Mass resection was performed through celiotomy with pubic osteotomy, and hemangiosarcoma was diagnosed. At 10 weeks post-operatively, the patient died of multiple metastasis. Primary intrapelvic hemangiosarcoma is rare in dogs.

Steroid hormones are mainly produced in adrenal glands and gonads. Because steroid hormones play vital roles in various physiological processes, replacement of deficient steroid hormones by hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is necessary for patients with adrenal and gonadal failure. In addition to HRT, tissue regeneration using stem cells is predicted to provide novel therapy. Among various stem cell types, mesenchymal stem cells can be differentiated into steroidogenic cells following ectopic expression of nuclear receptor (NR) 5A subfamily proteins, steroidogenic factor-1 (also known as adrenal 4 binding protein) and liver receptor homolog-1, with the aid of cAMP signaling. Conversely, these approaches cannot be applied to pluripotent stem cells, such as embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells, because of poor survival following cytotoxic expression of NR5A subfamily proteins. However, if pluripotent stem cells are first differentiated through mesenchymal lineage, they can also be differentiated into steroidogenic cells via NR5A subfamily protein expression. This approach offers a potential suitable cells for future regenerative medicine and gene therapy for diseases caused by steroidogenesis deficiencies. It represents a powerful tool to investigate the molecular mechanisms involved in steroidogenesis. This article highlights our own and current research on the induction of steroidogenic cells from various stem cells. We also discuss the future direction of their clinical application.

We devised a business portfolio design framework for pharmaceutical development projects. In general, pharmaceutical development projects have a high option value because there’s much technological uncertainty and development period is long. First of all, we built one project evaluation model using binomial lattice model to calculate the probability of NPV including abandonment option. Second, we built the business portfolio design model to evaluate the risk and required investment. We used the probability of NPV as input, and set the number of pipelines in each development phase as variables. We clarified the effect of scale that the more the number of pipelines in each phase, the less likely the probability of negative NPV would be. In the assumption we built about the virtual pharmaceutical development project, 15 pipelines are required to reduce the probability of negative NPV in phase III to 8%, which means that it’s required to invest 45 billion yen per year for phase III.

This paper presents a daily peak load forecasting method using an analyzable structured neural network (ASNN) in order to explain forecasting reasons. In this paper, we propose a new training method for ASNN in order to explain forecasting reason more properly than the conventional training method. ASNN consists of two types of hidden units. One type of hidden units has connecting weights between the hidden units and only one group of related input units. Another one has connecting weights between the hidden units and all input units. The former type of hidden units allows to explain forecasting reasons. The latter type of hidden units ensures the forecasting performance. The proposed training method make the former type of hidden units train only independent relations between the input factors and output, and make the latter type of hidden units train only complicated interactions between input factors. The effectiveness of the proposed neural network is shown using actual daily peak load. ASNN trained by the proposed method can explain forecasting reasons more properly than ASNN trained by the conventional method. Moreover, the proposed neural network can forecast daily peak load more accurately than conventional neural network trained by the back propagation algorithm.

For green supply chains, it is essential to disassemble and recycle end-of-life (EOL) assembled products for material circulation. In order to establish disassembly plants environmentally friendly and economical manner, a disassembly parts selection is often carried out. Each part has a different recycling rate and cost, and all parts have precedence relationships among disassembly tasks. Igarashi et al. (2014) [International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems, Vol.13, No.1, pp.52-66] proposed a disassembly parts selection method that is carried out in an environmentally friendly and economical manner with non-destructive or destructive disassembly with integer programming with ε constraint. However, calculated efforts are required to achieve optimum solutions for the ε constraint method. On the other hand, goal programming is well known as an effective way to solve multi-criteria decision-making problems. This study proposes a bi-objective disassembly parts selection with recycling rate and cost using goal programming, and analyzes multiple types of EOL assembled products and disassembly parts selection. First, an environmentally friendly and economical disassembly parts selection is addressed using a 3D-CAD and Recyclability Evaluation Method (REM) developed by Hitachi Ltd. Next, the environmentally friendly and economical disassembly parts selection is formulated with goal programming. Finally, a case study is quantitatively discussed by comparing different types of assembled products and goal programming parameters. It is demonstrated that the proposal method by goal programming in this study finds the same solutions with the lower number of numerical experiments as that with the ε constraint method.

Recently, there has been a great demand for day nursery in Japan. The floor space per person, which is provided in minimum standards for child welfare facility, has not been revised for 60 years though this is the only criterion for the environmental level in day nursery. The purpose of this study is to consider whether it is relevant to use the floor space of eating and napping per person, for the means to reconsider the floor space per person which is not said to be well-founded scientifically. We observed four-year-old-children in detail while they were eating and napping. We also measured each space of nursery rooms. 4 nurseries fulfilling the following criteria were selected; eat and nap in the same room,20-30 children for each class, 2.0m2 per person in nursery room. As a result, we found that eating and napping space is 0.80-1.65m2 and 1.22-1.44m2 per person, respectively. Therefore, we figured that the necessary space of eating was 1.03m2 per person and of napping was 1.40m2 per person, respectively(2.43m2 per person in total)in order to make comfortable nursery room. To conclude, the eating and napping floor space may become one of the effective index to develop the nursery environment hereafter.

Vancomycin-induced thrombocytopenia is a rare adverse reaction that may be overlooked because no specific diagnostic test is currently available. We herein report a patient with vancomycin-induced immune thrombocytopenia who was diagnosed by the detection of vancomycin-dependent anti-platelet antibody with flow cytometry. An IgG antibody in the patient's serum reacted with platelets only in the presence of vancomycin. Severe thrombocytopenia gave rise to life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding, which was quickly resolved after effective platelet transfusion following the cessation of vancomycin administration. This report suggests that the flow cytometric test is useful for the differential diagnosis of thrombocytopenia and platelet transfusion should be performed after the cessation of vancomycin administration.

76年1月から12月までの1年間に東京女子医大糖尿病センターを受診し, 一定の調査項目の完備した糖尿病患者1,629名について5年間にわたりprospectiveに追跡調査を行ったところ, 登録5年後の生存者1,442名, 死亡者184名, 生死不明者3名であり, 生死に関する追跡率は99.8%であった. 登録5年後の生命予後を不良とした登録時状態として, 糖尿病30歳未満発症, 肥満度90%未満, 収縮期血圧200mmHg以上, 拡張期血圧110mmHg以上, インスリン治療, 朝食前血糖200mg/dl以上, 血清コレステロール150mg/dl未満および300mg/dl以上, 血清中性脂肪300mg/dl以上, 血清尿素窒素30mg/dl以上, 血清尿酸10mg/dl以上, 神経障害, Scott IIIa以上の網膜症,(+++) 以上の蛋白尿などであった. とくに, 登録時に神経障害, 網膜症, 蛋白尿のすべてを有したものの予後は不良であった. 5年間に死亡した184名の死因の第1位は悪性新生物であり, ついで脳血管障害, 虚血性心疾患, 糖尿病性腎症の順であったが, 糖尿病若年発症者, 登録時肥満者, 高血圧, 高コレステロール血症, 高中性脂肪血症, 高尿素窒素血症, 高尿酸血症, 神経障害, 網膜症, 蛋白尿を有したものでは, 他の群に比し死因として悪性新生物の割合は少なく, 糖尿病性腎症, 虚血性心疾患, 脳血管障害など血管障害の割合が増大した.

糖尿病患者の予後と発症年齢との関係, とくに最近における若年発症糖尿病患者の予後を明らかにする目的で次の検討を行った. 対象は当センターの登録糖尿病患者1,900名で平均追跡期間7.9年, 35歳未満発症の1型糖尿病12名を除き, 全例が2型糖尿病であった.1) 平均年間死亡率 (1,000対) は対象者全員では男30.79, 女20.10で発症年齢が進むほど高くなるが, 35歳未満発症群では35-44歳群よりむしろ高い値を示した. これに対して, O/E比は全体では1.71で糖尿病患者では有意の過剰死亡を示すが, 発症年齢が若くなるほどO/E比は高くなり, 35歳未満発症群では男4.17, 女9.32に達した.2) 初診時における各種因の分布を発症年齢別にみると, 35歳未満発症群では空腹時血糖値が高く, インスリン治療のものが多い. また, 尿蛋白陽性率も35-44歳発症群よりも高率となっている.3) 発症年齢45歳未満を一括すると腎疾患による死亡が最も多く, 心疾患, 悪性新生物, 肝硬変がこれに次ぎ, 65歳以上発症群とは著しく異なる分布がみられた。また, 腎疾患のO/E比は45歳未満発症群では41.67に達し, 他の年齢群を大きく上回った.以上, 若年発症糖尿病患者は同年代の府民一般に比して死亡リスクが筈しく高く, また腎疾患による死亡がとくに多いなどの特徴がみられた.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the cardiac dimensions and the influences of Kyudo practice in the function of the left ventricle and responses of cardiac function during shooting. The subjects were 14 shooters whose ages were 63-85 years (the average 68.8 years old) and even now they take part in formal Kyudo matches. Total body fat was assessed by the skinfold caliper method. The left venticular structure and function were measured using M-mode echocardiography and ECG during shooting were measured by the telemeter method. Results obtained were as follows.Subjects averaged 161.9 cm in height,59.7 kg in weight and 123.4 mmHg in systolic blood pressure. Time for shooting was about 30 seconds on the average, but the shortest time was 15 seconds, and the longest was 50 seconds. There were arrhythmia in 3 subjects at rest ECG. However, there were no differences in the ecocardiographic data between shooters and normal subjects. Arrhythmia disappeared in two subjects during shooting. The heart rate during shooting averaged 110 b/min, but one shooter recorded 180 b/min at maximal level.In summary, Kyudo practice is not so hard for old age shooters, but there is possibility that it builds up blood pressure, because it needs strong muscle activity during shooting. Therefore, old shooters must always take care of their medical condition.

In this paper, an illuminating method with the 1/f-fluctuation is proposed to produce the peaceful lighting stage, because it is said that the 1/f-fluctuation will make a relaxed mental state.The light intensity from the normal light bulb is changed by the phase control in the A. C. power source with the 1/f-fluctuation signals generated by performing the First Fourier Transformation (FFT) on the normal random numbers and by passing through the 1/f-filter. The light power spectrum is measured by calculating the picture image from the CCD camera to check the tendency of 1/f-fluctuation in the illumination from the bulb, and also in the flame light from the candle. Physiological impression for the 1/f-fluctuating illumination is compared with the change of the heart rate in other lighting conditions: the normal lighting, and the flashing lighting using the random numbers. From the result of physiological measurements, the decrease in the heart rate for the proposed 1/f-fluctuating illumination is observed.

A city exerts influences on its surrounding areas, but its effects are discontinuously produced. They are chiefly due to the situation of the surrounding areas. The author attempted to analyze this discontinuous urbanization in a case of Osaka and its surrounding areas, during Japan's industrial revolution, from the late Meiji to the early Showa eras. Osaka is the city where the modern industry developed earliest in Japan. But, since the Edo era, rural cotton industry was prosperous in its surrounding areas, especially both in Kawachi, the district to the east and in Izumi, the district to the south of Osaka. At that time it was more prosperous in Kawachi than in Izumi. But in the Meiji era, the cotton industry developed more in Izumi.In this period Osaka was not yet big enough to exert a strong infuluence on the surrounding areas. Economically Osaka had a close connection with towns in the surrounding areas. As towns developed earlier in Izumi, the district had a closer connection with Osaka. By establishing connection with Osaka, Izumi could develop cotton industry earlier than other areas.Though Kawachi is situated nearer to Osaka, few towns sprang up there and it could not establish a close connection with Osaka. And so the industrial growth there was much hindered. Besides in Kawachi agricultural growth was also retarded. In the Meiji era Kawachi was behind Izumi in view of economic development.But in the Taisho era, on account of the urban growth of Osaka, industrialization and urbanization were greatly advanced in its surrounding areas. This urbanization through expansion of urbanized areas does not matter whether many towns developed or not in the surrounding areas. Urbanization of Kawachi was one of this sort. Being situated nearer to Osaka, the number of commuters to Osaka increased in Kawachi since the Taisho era, and the industry began to develop there. On the other hand urbanization of this type was only faintly progressed in Izumi. The nature of urbanization of these two districts was different. The industrialization and urbanization were more developed in Kawachi than in Izumi. Kawachi economically reversed Izumi at this time.The inversion, in other words the discontinuous urbanization, of Izumi and Kawachi depends on strength of influence of Osaka on the surrounding areas and on the different regional situation in the neighboring districts.

Canine distemper virus (CDV) is one of the most serious pathogens found in many species of carnivores, including domestic dogs. In this study, hemagglutinin (H) genes were detected in five domestic Vietnamese dogs with diarrhea, and two CDVs were successfully isolated from dogs positive for H genes. The complete genome of one isolate, CDV/dog/HCM/33/140816, was determined. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all Vietnamese CDVs belonged to the Asia-1 genotype. In addition, the H proteins of Vietnamese CDV strains were the most homologous to those of Chinese CDVs (98.4% to 99.3% identity). These results indicated that the Asia-1 genotype of CDV was the predominant genotype circulating among the domestic dog population in Vietnam and that transboundary transmission of CDV has occurred between Vietnam and China.

きのこ中金属の含有実態を有用性と有害性の両面より把握する目的で, 21種32点の食用きのこについて18金属の分析を行った.1. 鉄, カリウム, ナトリウム, マグネシウム, 亜鉛, 銅及びマンガンの必須金属は, 一般の野菜類と同程度の値であった.2. カルシウムの含有量は, 一般の野菜類と比較し低く, 供給源として考えた場合, 著しく有用性に乏しいものであった.3. 鉛, クロム, ニッケル, コバルト, バナジウム, スズ及びアンチモンの有害金属は, 不検出またはこれに近い値であった.4. カドミウムは, ほぼ全試料より検出し, 特にコウタケ( 1.02μg/g) とホウキタケ (0.80μg/) が高い値を示し, 食べる量によっては有害性を示す危険性がある.5. アルミニウムは, 一般の野菜類の10倍以上の含有量が測定されたが, 有害性を示すとは考え難い量であった。6. セレンは, コウタケのみから高い濃度で検出され (6, 10μg/g), 十分に安全な値とは断言できず, 食べる量によっては有害性を示すことが考えられる.7. 各金属の含有傾向を知る目的で, 確率紙を用いた濃度分布の検定を行ったが, マンガン,カリウム及びマグネシウムが正規分布, カドミウムが対数正規分布によい適合を示した.8. 金属間の相関性は, 銅とカドミウム; 鉄とアルミニウム; 亜鉛と銅; アルミニウムとカドミウム; 鉄とナトリウム: 亜鉛とカドミウムと, 危険率1%で有意の相関性を得た.9. 発生場所と金属含有量の差は, アルミニウム, マグネシウム及びカドミウムが, 枯木上に発生するきのこより地上に発生するきのこの方が濃度が高く, 有意水準5%で有意な差を認めた.

地震は断層の生成によって起こると仮定して,多くの学説が組み立てられているが,はたして,地震は断層の生成によって起こっているであろうか.地震が断層の生成によって起こっているとするならば,地震現象としては,初動分布が4象限型になっていなければならない.初動分布は,震源の最初の動きを表示しているものであるから,すべての地震学説に対して生殺与奪権を握っている.ところが,筆者が,たびたび報告しているように,初動分布は4象限型でないと考える方が,現象に忠実である.本文に,その,はっきりした例を示している.
