The Snake Cube Puzzle made of a linear array of 27 cubes and its modified and extended versions are used as theoretical models to study the mechanism of folding of proteins into their sequence-specific native three-dimensional structures. The problem of protein folding is reviewed very briefly by comparing it with the problem of genetic code. It is stressed that the folding process is basically a physical phenomenon. The consistency principle advocated nearly 40 years ago to explain the folding mechanism is briefly reviewed. The result obtained by using the models provides a semi-quantitative manifestation of the consistency principle.

We investigate aggregation mechanism of two proteins in a thermodynamically unambiguous manner by considering the finite size effect of free energy landscape of HP lattice protein model. Multi-self-overlap-ensemble Monte Carlo method is used for numerical calculations. We find that a dimer can be formed spontaneously as a thermodynamically stable state when the system is small enough. It implies the possibility that the aggregation of proteins in a cell is triggered when they are confined in a small region by, for example, being surrounded by other macromolecules. We also find that the dimer exhibits a transition between unstable state and metastable state in the infinite system.

近年,様々なデバイスがインターネットに接続されると共にサイバー上からの脅威が高まってきている.その対象には,自動車や航空機,鉄道等の乗り物においても同様である.特に自動車においては身近な乗り物ある事に加え,人命が関係するために注目度は高いと言える. 従来,自動車の車載システムの不正操作はダッシュボード下からモジュールを接続するなど,物理的な側面が強かった.しかし,近年の車載システムはWi-Fi やBluetooth といった外部接続が可能であり,遠隔から自動車を不正操作することができるリスクが出てきた.現在,このリスクは特定条件下において実証されており,システム全体のセキュリティ対策の強化が望まれている. そこで,本稿では現状指摘されている自動車におけるサイバーリスクと想定される脅威について紹介し,その対策例を述べる.

Vancomycin is the first-choice antimicrobial for the lethal methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections. Therefore, the therapeutic performance of vancomycin must be enhanced. The narrow therapeutic range between clinical efficacy and toxicity necessitates therapeutic drug monitoring. Therapeutic targets were previously established by trough concentrations (10-20 μg/mL) but are now commonly determined with the area under the concentration-time curves (AUC, 400-600 μg·h/mL). However, there has not been a strategy for efficiently calculating individual AUC. This review focuses on studies pertaining to activating AUC-guided dosing of vancomycin in clinical settings. First, the author suggested a table for determining empirical dosing of vancomycin by population pharmacokinetic analysis, where weight-normalized dosing corresponded to the estimated glomerular filtration rate, also as in the case during continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). The author then demonstrated that Bayesian forecasting was effective for CRRT patients in regards to compliance with a target therapeutic range. The author also developed a web application to enable AUC-guided dosing. Finally, the author demonstrated a reduction in patients developing nephrotoxicity following an intervention against the concomitant use of vancomycin and tazobactam/piperacillin, a known risk factor for acute kidney injury.

During push switch operation, tactile feedback is crucial in determining whether the operation will be successful. However, to enhance the tactile feedback and ensure usability, the actuation force should not increase. Herein, a method to improve tactile feedback during switch operation by designing the operating sound is proposed. In the first experiment, to investigate the acoustic characteristics of high feedback operating sound, participants evaluated recorded commercial push switch operating sounds through headphones using the semantic differential method. Results showed that the operating sound with a short decay time and high loudness value in the high-frequency band exhibited a highly intelligible impression. Furthermore, the push switch operation exhibited two sounds (push and release), whose contribution to the impression was determined based on their loudness. In the second experiment, participants evaluated their impressions when operating push switches, which comprised various combinations of operating sound volume and actuation force. Results showed that highly intelligible sound improved the tactile feedback. Moreover, it was found that considering the balance between the operating sound volume and actuation force is necessary to improve the switch operation feedback through the operating sound. These findings can aid in enhancing the feedback of devices that require switches with low actuation force due to design constraints.

The present study manipulated fear-arousal (fear, non-fear) and anonymity (high, low) in a 2×2 factorial design. From the theory of deindividuation (Zimbardo, 1969), the two varlables were expected to induce an internal state of deindividuation, and thereby disinhibit aggressive behavior.Fifty-seven male undergraduates were randomly assigned to each of the four experimental groups. The subjects were asked either to take a pill which had side-effects (fear condition), or to take coffee (non-fear condition). In addition, the subjects in the low anonymity condition were asked their name and about their personal backgrounds, and they were always called by name during the experiment. They were also given a name tag to wear. In the high anonymity condition, subjects were not asked their name nor anything about their personal backgrounds. Instead, they were given a white robe to wear to decrease individuality.The subjects were then given an opportunity to deliver electric shocks to another subject (confederate) through a Buss-type aggression machine. Both the intensity and duration of the shocks were recorded during the administration of aggression. Deilldividuation was measured on a postsession questlonnaire that assesed the subjects' memory of their own aggressive behavior.Prior to statistical treatment, two orthogonal variates, direct aggression and indirect aggression, were identified by a principal component analysis of the aggression data. The effects of fear arousal and anonymity manipulation upon the variates were as follows: (a) fear arousal increased indirect aggresson but did not affect direct aggression; (b) anonymity manipulation affected direct aggression but did not affect indirect aggression. The questionnaire data did not confirm the mediation of the deindividuated intemal state.It may be concluded that fear arousal and anonymity manipulation affected different aspects of aggressive behavior, though it remains uncertain whether or net the effects were mediated by the internal state of deindividuation.

近年, 子どもの権利への関心が高まるなか, 社会的養護における支援の個別性の保障が課題となっている. とりわけ強調されるのが「施設の家庭化」である. 本稿の目的は, 児童自立支援施設での質的調査データにもとづき, 施設の家庭化論を検討するとともに, 今後に向けた示唆を得ることにある.まず, 施設の家庭化を訴える議論と, それを批判した家族社会学研究を概観したうえで, 個別性を2つの位相に分節化する戦略を採用する(第2節). 次に, 対象と方法について説明し (第3節), 児童自立支援施設Zでの調査から得た知見を示す. 分析からは, 確かに施設における集団生活は個別性保障を妨げる部分があるものの, 集団生活だからこそ実現される個別性保障も存在することが明らかにされる (第4節, 第5節). 以上の結果を踏まえ, (1) 家庭でケアラーが直面する困難を隠蔽すること, (2) 子どもの格差是正を妨げること, (3) 少数の大人が少数の子どもをケアする以外の可能性をみえなくすることという3つの陥穽が施設の家庭化論にあることを示す. そのうえで, 職員充足によって家庭を超えるケアを実現する可能性があること, 家庭という理念を相対化して議論をすることが必要であることを論じる (第6節).
