The airflow velocity in clothing (AVC) was measured by using the bi-directional airflow sensor in order to observe the chimney effect and the pumping effect. Eight female participants were asked to wear a separate type raincoat and they kept themselves in a stationary state or performed the rhythmic work. The climatic chamber was controlled at 23℃ or 18℃ (RH50% ). The AVC caused by chimney effect was higher at 18℃ than at 23℃ significantly. The highest value (0.43m/sec) was observed at the chest area. The pumping effect triggered by the rhythmic work caused the air in clothing flowed from the trunk towards the cuff or the hem of a raincoat and overwhelmed the chimney effect.

This study aims to evaluate the agricultural reliance on insect pollination in Japan. Pollination services, especially bees, are vital ecosystem services for agricultural productivity, so recent declines in pollinators triggered the circulation of monetary valuation of pollination services. We measured the welfare loss in each crop category taking into account the response of the consumers, and we found that the contribution of insect pollination to the production of apples, melons, and Japanese pears, which were the top three crops, were 98.5 billion, 48.9 billion, and 35.8 billion JPY, respectively.

In this study, we propose a stochastic model for predicting the behavior of financial market traders. First, using real ordering data that includes masked traders' IDs, we cluster the traders and select a recognizable cluster that appears to employ a high-frequency traders' market-making (HFT-MM) strategy. Then, we use an LSTM-based stochastic prediction model to predict the traders' behavior. This model takes the market order book state and a trader's ordering state as input and probabilistically predicts the trader's actions over the next one minute. The results show that our model can outperform both a model that randomly takes action and a conventional deterministic model. Herein, we only analyze limited trader type but, if our model is implemented to all trader types, this will increase the accuracy of predictions for the entire market.

近年,海洋研究開発機構は多くの地震探査航海を日本海で実施し,その探査中マルチビームによる高品質な海底地形データを同時に取得している.海底地形はその海域におけるテクトニクスや構造発達史を解明する手かがりの1つであり,地震研究においても,例えば震源断層のパラメータの検討の観点から重要である.したがって,高品質な海底地形データを活用することができれば,断層の長さに関する検討の精度が上がり,震源断層の大きさの議論の進展にもつながる.その結果,日本海における地震活動・活構造と地殻構造の関係をより統合的に研究を推進することができる.本報告では,地震探査時に取得された海底地形データを加えた日本海全域及びその周辺の地形データを用いて,それらを統合したDEM(数値標高モデル:Digital Elevation Model)データを作り,さらにそのデータを用いて方向依存性のない立体感が得られる赤色立体地図を作製した結果について記す.

1992年8月岐阜県下の23,000羽飼養採卵養鶏場で, 90日齢大雛 (3, 500羽) に貧血症が発生した. 発病例のヘマトクリット値は6-11%, 低γ-グロブリン血症を呈し, 剖検で皮下, 骨格筋の点状出血, 骨髄の黄色化がみられ, 組織学的にはリンパ組織におけるリンパ球消失がみられた. 病鶏の肝臓から鶏貧血ウイルス (CAV) が分離されたが, 抗体検査ではCAVをはじめ主要鶏病ウイルスに対する抗体が検出されず, 免疫不全が発症の要因であることが示唆れた.

We developed interactive broadcasting system named "Nyafu Nyafu Douga". Using this system, viewer can watch broadcast and post comments at the same time. We put this system into practice in University of Tsukuba school festival.

縄文時代早期に属すると推定されてきた岩手県蛇王洞洞穴出土人骨の性別, 死亡時年齢, 所属年代, および形態的特徴を調査した。年代推定については形態学的検討に加えて骨コラーゲンの放射性炭素測定を行った結果, 本人骨が縄文時代早期に属することが確実となった。そこでその個体的特徴を従来指摘されてきた早期人の諸特徴と比較検討してみたところ, 本人骨は全体として繊細であることなど, 概ね従来の指摘通りの形態的特徴を示した。しかしその一方で下顎を含めた顔面下部の形態, 脛骨後面の形態など, 平均的な早期人から逸脱した特徴も備えていることが明らかとなった。

丹沢山地において,シカの増加に伴う林床植生の減少がオサムシ科甲虫に与える間接的な影響を検討するため,シカの影響程度(林床植物量)の異なる5地点においてオサムシ科甲虫相を調査し比較した。併せて,植生保護のため8年前に設置された防鹿柵によるオサムシ科甲虫への保全効果を検証するため,防鹿柵内外の6カ所でも調査を行った。GLMとモデル選択の結果,調査区の林床植物量が,最優占種であるヨリトモナガゴミムシの捕獲数には負の,体の大きいクロナガオサムシの捕獲数に正の影響を与えたことが示唆された。この結果は,シカの影響による植被の減少に伴い,小型のオサムシ科甲虫種は増加し大型種は減少するという一般的な傾向と一致した。優占種5種を対象とした冗長性分析(RDA)でも林床植物量はRDA1軸に強い相関を示した。以上の結果から,丹沢山地のオサムシ科甲虫群集にシカが強い間接的影響を与えることが示された。また,シカが増加する前に設置された加入道山の防鹿柵内では林床植生が多く残存し,大型のクロナガオサムシが多数出現しており,防鹿柵の早期設置は大型のオサムシ科甲虫種の保全に効果があったことが示唆された。

The 2014 Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong succeeded in mobilizing large number of people by demanding democracy which meets “international standards” and by deteriorating “Hong Kong–China conflict”. However, there is a difference of nature between “international standards” and “Hong Kong–China conflict”. The former represents elitist value and the supporters of the international standards prefer liberal and peaceful activities, while the latter is an issue particular to Hong Kong, and people demanding to solve the issue tends to criticize those westernized elites who are apart from the Hong Kong society. They are Hong Kong nationalists and they accept violent resistance to a certain extent. During the prolonged Umbrella Movement, nationalists criticized liberal leaders of the movement and the dispute split the movement. After the movement, Liberal members formed “Self-determination groups” who insists that Hong Kong people should determine their own political future through referendum. And nationalists formed “Localist groups” who see Hong Kong people as a nation and expel mainlanders. Although there exists conflict between the Self-determination groups and the Localist groups, both of them rely on political freedom which enables political activities on the street and rule of law which protects the rights of opposition. Although both political freedom and rule of law in Hong Kong are now under threat to a certain extent, internet freedom and judicial independence is guaranteed so far. When the government tries to infringe on it, both Self-determination groups and Localist groups resist strongly. And both groups are in opposition to the Chinese central government. Both “democratic self-determination” which liberals demands and “self-determination of nations” which localists demands are not acceptable for the central government. Central government tries to isolate “a very few” pro-independence groups by co-opting democrats and moderate localists. But if the central government take action to expel radicals, they would make an enemy of liberals at the same time. In the Legislative Council election on 4th Sep. 2016, 6 members of the new political groups (3 candidates from “Self-determination groups” and 3 candidates from “Localist groups”) were successfully elected. Legco may experience a huge change by accepting new members of new generations. But before the election, the Government rejected some candidates whom the Government saw as pro-independent and some newly elected Legco members were disqualified by not swearing allegiance to the PRC. They brought some actions against the Government and the new political groups which arose from street politics are to continue its fight against the Government both in the parliament and court.

The evolutionary history and diversity of unionoid mussels in East Asia need to be clarified and would shed light on the formation process of the unique fauna of Japan. Unionoid mussels (Mollusca: Bivalvia) are unique models for understanding the process by which organisms have diversified before and after the formation of the Japanese archipelago. Unionoid mussels have poor dispersal ability, so it is thought that they would have been strongly influenced by the archipelago’s formation. Therefore, the speciation and diversification processes of mussels before and after the archipelago’s formation were investigated by analyzing the nuclear and mitochondrial DNA of a wide range of species, particularly those inhabiting East Asia. The evolutionary history and divergence time of these mussels were examined. Unionoid mussels were found to have higher endemicity than other freshwater organisms. Although most of the endemic unionoid mussels of Japan are likely to have diverged before the formation of the Japanese archipelago, some other Japanese unionoid mussel species, including species endemic to Lake Biwa, an ancient lake in Japan, potentially diverged after the Japanese archipelago began to separate from the continent. This suggest that adaptation to the unique habitat of the ancient lake has caused diversification in the mussels endemic to it.

Tama New Town was planned in 1965 and developed according to the New Residential Town Development Law, which forbids farming in the town area. Consequently, most farmers in Tama Hill bandoned farming . However, the dairy farmers in the No. 19 area (Hachioji, Tokyo) had continued to oppose the development. A number of factors favored the dairy farmers, who were dedicated to defending the use of their land. In particular, the agricultural production capacity and pride in the historic origin contributed to the success of the movement. Furthermore, in 1973, land acquisition in the No. 19 area was stopped due to the oil crisis. The dairy farmers' movement was supported by the Japanese Communist Party, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government labor union, various experts, and New Town residents' environmental movements. In 1983, the Ministry of Construction and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government exempted the dairy farmers' land from the planning area, guaranteeing that it would not be incorporated into the urbanization control area. In addition, builders agreed to an investigation by a team of experts who supported the dairy farmers' movement; the team proposed the rural-urban housing.    However, the 1983 decision to claim the dairy farmers' land was only the beginning of Nakasone's administrative reform. The outbreak of the oil crisis averted the compulsory purchase of the dairy farmers' land, and the Japanese government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government faced a fiscal crisis and had to adopt policies based on economic rationalism. As a result, in 1986, the Housing and Urban Development Corporation carried out compulsory purchases of land that were being used for sericulture. A subsequent series of policies led to the end of the dairy farmers' protest movement, and the Housing and Urban Development Corporation purchased the land of conservative landowners in the No. 19 area. The purchases demolished the solidarity among the dairy farmers, sericulturists, regional planners, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government labor union, who had intended to realize th rural-urban housing.

To land a helicopter on a flight deck of a ship is said to be one of difficult operations even for experienced pilots because the helicopter rotor is affected by complex flows, e.g. ship airwakes and interference flows formed between the rotor and superstructures, in addition to ship motions. Therefore, it is important to grasp quantitatively influence of these complex flows on the helicopter rotor for securing the safe deck-landing. In this paper, CFD analysis of helicopter rotor operating over a flight deck is done by solving unsteady 3D compressible Euler equations with an overlapped grid system. The superstructure on a flight deck is modeled by a simple sharp edged bluff body. Parameters for numerical analysis are landing spot and relative wind speed to the rotor and ship. Effects of these parameters on the rotor torque, flowfields around the rotor and inflow distributions on the rotor disc are clarified.
