背景 : WPW症候群の副伝導路 (AP) に対するアブレーション時に, いったん消失したAP伝導が再開するという現象が時として見られるが, 多くの場合APの不完全焼灼に起因する「単純再発」と考えられる. 一般に, アブレーションによるΔ波の消失はAPの離断を意味するものと考えられるが, ほかの可能性として, 例えば, 焼灼によってAPの不応期が延長しその値が患者の洞周期長よりも長くなった場合, 洞インパルスはAPを伝導することが不可能となり (機能的ブロック) , Δ波は消失し得るであろう. しかしながらこれまで, そのような状況は想定されてこなかったと思われる.  症例 : A型WPW症候群の患者 (31歳, 男性) に対しアブレーションを施行した. CS電極記録にて順伝導・逆伝導ともに最早期部位は僧帽弁輪側壁部であった. 経中隔弁上アプローチにより, 洞調律下で心室最早興奮部位にて通電を行い, 14秒後にAPの伝導ブロックをきたした. 60秒間の通電の後も伝導ブロックが維持され器質的ブロックと考えられたが, 右室のカテーテル刺激によると思われる心室性期外収縮を契機にΔ波が再出現した. 出現したΔ波が持続したため, 初回の通電部位に近接する前壁側部位にて追加通電を行ったところAP伝導は消失した. その後, Δ波の再発は見られなかった.  総括 : 高周波通電によりΔ波が消失したWPW症候群の 1例において, 心室性期外収縮を契機にΔ波が再出現した. Δ波再出現の機序として「房室結節を順伝導した洞インパルスが逆行性にAP内へ進入し, その逆行性不顕伝導の効果によりAPの順伝導が機能的にブロックされていた (linking現象の持続による機能的ブロック) . この状況下にて, 心室性期外収縮による“peeling-back効果”によりAPの不応期が左方へ移動し (不応期の短縮と同等) , AP順伝導が可能となってΔ波が出現した」という説明が可能であると考えられた.

核磁気共鳴(NMR)装置は,理工系から生物系に渡る広範な分野で使用されている分析機器のひとつである。画像診断など医学分野で使用されているNMRイメージング(MRI)は,大多数の読者が名前は聞いたことがあるだろう。MRIでは磁場の中に人間が入り,人体中の水分子の水素原子核を観測している。同様の原理で,構造未知の化合物の構造解析にNMRがよく用いられる。NMRは他の分析機器と比べると,価格が1桁高い高額な分析機器であるが,理工・薬学系の大学および製薬会社には,必ずと言っていいほどNMR装置が数台ある。理由は,それだけNMRが便利であり,研究に不可欠だからである。本講座では,NMRの観測対象である原子核について,NMRの観点からその特徴を説明する。

Averaged blood glucose levels were 400 mg/dl in nonfasted mice, and 250 mg/dl in fasted mice in 4 weeks after injection with streptozotocin (STZ, 150 mg/kg, i.v.). These mice were used for experiments. Hypoglycemic effects of hot water extracts (W) from Folium Mori (Mulberry leaves, Morus alba L., China and Japan) or Cortex Mori Radicis (Morus alba L., China) were observed in fasted and nonfasted STZ-induced diabetic mice at a single dose of 200 mg/kg (i.p.). The W from Folium Mori exhibited most potent hypoglycemic effects. The most potent fractions of Folium Mori and Cortex Mori Radicis were ethanol-insoluble extracts (A2). These A2 fractions demonstrated a fall in blood glucose levels of 24.6±6.0% and 60.5±9.1% at nonfasted STZ-mice, and 81.4±7.9% and 77.3±5.8% at fasted STZ-mice, respectively. The increase in glucose uptake was a mechanism of hypoglycemic actions by W and A2 of Folium Mori.

We present a number of results about (finite) multiple harmonic sums modulo a prime, which provide interesting parallels to known results about multiple zeta values (i.e. infinite multiple harmonic series). In particular, we prove a ‘duality' result for mod p harmonic sums similar to (but distinct from) that for multiple zeta values. We also exploit the Hopf algebra structure of the quasi-symmetric functions to perform calculations with multiple harmonic sums mod p, and obtain, for each weight n through nine, a set of generators for the space of weight-n multiple harmonic sums mod p. When combined with recent work, the results of this paper offer significant evidence that the number of quantities needed to generate the weight-n multiple harmonic sums mod p is the nth Padovan number (OEIS sequence A000931).

本研究では、日本トップレベルの大学バドミントン選手におけるサービスレシーブ時の下肢筋活動について検討した。全日本学生バドミントン選手権大会優勝チームに所属する男子選手7名を被験者とし、サービスレシーブ時の大腿二頭筋および腓腹筋活動を測定した。その結果、非ラケット足の大腿二頭筋および腓腹筋と打点との間に有意な相関関係が認められた。このことから、前方へ体を移動させるための推進力を得るための非ラケット足による床をけり出す力を向上させることにより、ネットに近い位置でシャトルを打つことができるようになる可能性が示唆された。

In his presentation of the secondary grade curriculum for the young, the Athenian stranger refers to the matter, which it is disgraceful not to know: the problems concerning "the essential nature of the commensurable and the incommensurable." (820c) The reference appears immediately after the Athenian stranger's introduction to three branches of learning: arithmetic, geometry, and astrology (817e), whose detailed study is necessary for only 'a few' (818a). Referring to the instruction of the essential nature of the commensurable and the incommensurable, what matter did Plato exactly have in his mind? G. R. Morrow said that the introduction of the problem of incommensurable magnitudes to the curriculum was "an innovation to which Plato attaches peculiar importance" and also that although the belief that "all magnitudes are somehow commensurable with one another is natural to us," seeing that this belief is in fact false would be to rise above one's human nature." Although the saying seems to hit the mark, Morrow did not fully explain why Plato's introduction to the learning of incommensurable magnitudes was "an innovation" which had a "peculiar importance" and how the subject-matter of the incommensurable could "emancipate the student from his instinctive sense-bound beliefs and thus, ・・・・・・raise him above his human nature." (pp.346-7) However, it is worth listening to his other words which bear on the significance of mathematical thinking in the context of legislation: "the law, as we learn in the Philebus, results from the application of the Limit (περα〓) to an indefinitely varying qualitative continuum (απειρου), and the Limit is conceived of as analogous to mathematical order." The words could be settled more aptly in the context of the incommensurable. I insist that Plato here in the dialogue Laws, referring to the peculiar importance of the incommensurable, gives an inkling of the fact that the scientific knowledge of the incommensurable has an isomorphic property with that faculty that discerns "the identical element which pervades all the four virtues" (965c). That is to say, Plato identifies the method by which the nature of the incommensurable magnitudes can be explained as a significant model in order to "hold very tight and not to let go"(965d) until we can adequately explain the essential nature of the object existing as a unity. In other words, the detailed study of the incommensurable is of great advantage to 'a few' (818a) who are expected to be members of the Nocturnal Council and who "must not only be able to pay regard to the many, but must be able also to press towards the one (pros to hen) so as to discern it and, on discerning it, to survey and organize all the rest with a single eye to it" (965b), since the fruit of this offers them a convenient paradigm in medium of which they may master an isomorphic way in order to see the invisible one. Plato's reference to the problem of the incommensurable in the Laws is at first sight negative. After his labor to explain the necessity of a subject concerning the incommensurable, the Athenian stranger says that it is to be laid down provisionally only, 'like pledges capable of redemption, apart from the rest of our constitution, in case they fail to satisfy either us who enact them or you for whom they are enacted.' (820e). However, the utterance is paradoxical in the same way as the introduction of the Nocturnal Council in the closing books of the Laws appears paradoxically to be an appendix, whereas in reality the whole constitution of Magnesia is rooted in the Council. Both facts correspond to one another and put Plato's metaphysical thinking out of our sight. Focusing the implications of philosophical dimensions of the incommensurable in the Laws, I will try to bring them into the relevance to Plato's metaphysical thought in the other dialogues and the Seventh Letter VII, where the deepest tenet on the incommensurable or the cognate ideas make their appearance vividly.

As well known, Nihon Sumo Kyokai, a foundation running Grand Sumo, is now confronted with a crisis by scandals. It seems that the Kyokai does not have abilities for management. However, at the same time, it seems that the financial performance of the foundation is stable and sound, and if it were, managerial abilities of the foundation should not be entirely denied.The purpose of this paper is to inspect and verify the stability and soundness. At first, 10 years' financial statements are examined from the viewpoint of “income and expenses”, cash flow, balance sheet and net asset. Second, changes of the business are examined collating with financials. As a result, it is found that the financial performance of the foundation is stable and sound, and the business structure and decision making of the foundation has risk-avoiding characteristics. These characteristics made the finance stable and sound. However, at the same time, it seems that the foundation has no means of increasing its revenue except ticket sales. There fore, it will be difficult to recover from the financial damage of cancellation of regular tournament, as a consequence of the lack of governance.

The house musk shrew Suncus murinus has successfully been domesticated for laboratory use both in the United States and Japan. Animals of this species have been found to be useful for behavioural studies in comparative psychology and the related fields. This article dealt with basic characteristics, ecological modes, maintenance of laboratory shrews, basic patterns of behaviour, and assessment of the species as a laboratory animal for behavioural studies. Basic characteristics covered phylogenetic status, morphology, growth, sensory functions, and motor functions. Although its ecology has not yet b en systematically investigated due to the difficulties for observing animals in the wild, some findings on the seasonal and locational variations of the population density in its natural habitat were obtained on the basis of the result of trapping. Keeping and breeding the already domesticated animals in an artificial environment as well as domesticating wild-originating animals were described. Characteristics of the caravaning behaviour were mentioned in relation to its sensitive period, its formation patterns, and development of the sensory and motor functions. Those findings were discussed in connection with its adaptive significance. Also, characteristics of the reproductive behaviour were represented. Behavioural interaction between sexes is expected to determine mating outcome, since the female is an induced ovulator, having no ovarian, vaginal, or behavioural oestrus cycle. Sequential pattern of the behaviour was described with reference to the male's pacifying behaviours and the postejaculatory attack towards the partner female. Together with those two observations, the activity rhythm, aggressive and learning behaviours were mentioned. Lastly, this species was assessed as a laboratory animal for behavioural studies.

沖縄に設立されたハンセン病療養所、国頭愛楽園で、開園時に収容された患者が起こした事件を、入所者2集団と献身的な職員のそれぞれの主体性が絡み合ったものとしてとらえ、事件をめぐる、それぞれの集団の主体的な行動と集団間の関係を入所者の証言、園機関誌などから分析する。本稿は、沖縄に設立されたハンセン病療養所、国頭愛楽園(以下、愛楽園)開園時に収容された患者が起こした事件を、園内の3集団それぞれの主体性が絡み合ったものとしてとらえ、事件をめぐる、それぞれの集団の主体的な行動と集団間の関係を入所者の証言、園機関誌などから分析する。1938年に設立された愛楽園は患者自身が安心して暮らせる居場所を求めて設立した療養所を前身とし、献身的に職員は働いた。それにもかかわらず、1940年、開園時に収容された患者たちは、一心会事件とよばれる組織的なストライキを起こした。 結果、一心会を中心とする闘争では、療養所を求めた患者集団、献身的であろうとした職員集団、収容された患者集団がそれぞれに主体的に行動していたことが明らかになった。療養所の設立を求めて動いた患者集団は職員とともにより良い療養所を目指したが、それは入所者を抑圧し、管理することにもなった。これに対し、開園時に収容された患者集団は抵抗をしたが、隔離政策下、排除が過酷になる集落へ追放された。各集団の主体性の背後には、差別と抑圧の重層的な構造があることがあぶりだされ、その中で、3集団それぞれの、肯定的に生きることを求めた行動が絡み合ったことが考察された。
