ネオンサインの寿命は15年分ら20年,バブル全盛時は10年を待たずして消えていった名作ネオンも多い.都市の景観もそれとともに,つれづれに変貌する.バブル崩壊後は景気の停滞を反映してネオンも地味に成った.日本のネオン風景を象徴する銀座の過去と現在を比較するとともに,"今"を代表するネオン作品を紹介したい.

In recent years, coastal regions in Japan have been used as not only sea bathing resorts, but also as spaces for marine sports. This study clarifies processes and factors that lead to the formation of the tourist resort in the settlement of Osezaki in Numazu-shi, Shizuoka prefecture, as a typical case of the tourist resort for divers that located around the metropolitan area. The results are as follows.<br>1. Scuba diving was introduced into Japan in 1947, and has become widespread rapidly after 1980's. With the increase of divers, 178 diving spots have been opened until now. They can be classified into two types; the first type locates near the metropolitan area and the second type locates on islands in low latitudes. Osezaki as a diving spot is the typical case of the first type.<br>2. The inhabitants on Enashi-ku have depended upon coastal fishery, farming and production of firewood until 1950's. But with the rapid development of orange farming in 1960's, most of inhabitants became more dependant upon farming which utilized on terraced fields and made a comfortable income. For that reason, most of inhabitants were not interested in the operation of recreational industry on Osezaki in 1960's.<br>3. With the improvement of traffic means and the decline of orange farming that was caused by the sudden fall of the price of oranges, some inhabitants of Enashi-ku started to operate the minsyuku (cheap lodging house in tourist resorts) as a principal occupation after 1970's. Enashi-ku as the community also started to operate the car park for tourists, using their common land.<br>4. After the opening of diving spot of Osezaki in 1985, the number of divers has rapidly increased. And now, divers who visit to Osezaki amount to 85000 a year. As a results most of minshuku come to put diving service shops in their buildings and the settlement of Osezaki as the minshuku region changed to the tourist resort for divers.<br>5. The superiority as a diving area (shortness of the time distance from Tokyo, beautiful landscape under the sea etc.) is important as fundamental conditions of the formation of the tourist resort for divers. On the other hand, managers of minshuku have positively offered special services for divers, because of maintaining their stability of operation. Divers who visit to Osezaki throughout the year were attractive for managers of minshuku as customers.<br>6. The fishermen's cooperative of Uchiura has levied the charge (330yen per day) on each of divers since 1985, and about 50 percent of their income have distributed to Enashi-ku. Enashi-ku also has gained some income by the operation of the car park. These profits have been distributed to inhabitants of Enashi-ku directly or indirectly. But one of divers entered a lawsuit against the fishermen's cooperative of Uchiura on the grounds that levying of the charge by the fishermen's cooperative was unfair (it is pending in court now.) Local inhabitants are apprehensive that it may be a menace to the base of the enormous income. The desirable relationship between local inhabitants and divers is groped now.

Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas and Portuguese oyster C. angulata are morphologically13;related species that are sympatrically distributed at nearshore blackish areas in13;the subtropical zone of East Asia. Although these two species have thus far been known as inter-fertilizable under controlled conditions, molecular-based studies on mitochondrial DNA analysis verified obvious genetic differences between them. Huvet et al. (2004) reported a novel microsatellite DNA marker enabling to discriminate allelic sequence variants for C. gigas and C. angulata. In this study, we developed a rapid, reliable, and secure PCR-RFLP analysis of the biallelic microsatellite marker to diagnose hybrid oysters between C. gigas and C. angulata in wild stocks. An array of wild oyster specimens of C. gigas haplotypes and C. angulata haplotypes collected from Japan, Taiwan, and Korea were subjected to PCR amplification of the microsatellite marker and subsequent RFLP assay using FastDigest&reg; Bsp1407I13;restriction enzyme, followed by microchip electrophoretic diagnosis of both PCR and RFLP products. It took about 2 hours for the whole process of our analysis, and the frequencies of biallelic variants observed in C. gigas and C. angulata haplotype stocks were at the equivalent level of those of the previous report. In addition, a high frequency of the allelic variants for C. angulata in C. gigas haplotype stock in Tokyo Bay suggests the occurrence of natural hybrid oysters between C. gigas and C. angulata.

(1) With regard to the constituents of the fermentation medium, various nitrogen sources, glucose and their optimum concentrations, as well as the additive influences of various growth substances and metals, were examined.<br> Solely considering its worth in industrial application, urea seems to be a satisfactory nitrogen source. Its optimum concentration in the medium containing 5% of glucose was found to lie between 0.67 to 0.9%. The growth of cells should be suppressed when the initial con-centration of glucose exceeds 12.5%; therefore a level of 10% gives a better result. Data show-ed that addition of meat and bran extracts gave an increment of about 26% in acid yield.<br> (2) As for the fermentation condition, after experiments on the incubation temperature, pH and the influence of oxygen supply, etc., reveal that the aerobic condition is favorable for cell growth and accumulation of L-glutamic acid. An oxygen supply around 5 × 10<sup>-6</sup> of K<sub>d</sub> is desirable. The optimum incubation temperature was found to lie at 30°C.<br> A reasonable quantity of L-glutamic acid will be produced if the culture is kept neutral or preferably slightly alkaline by feeding a proper amount of urea aqueous solution throughout in-cubation.<br> (3) As a conclusion of the above experimental results, the yield of L-glutamic acid reached 45%, on basis of glucose supplied after 30 hours' in-cubation.<br> (4) By-products such as alanine, α-ketoglutaric acid, pyruvic acid and succinic acid were found at the same time, in the fermentation of L-glu-tamic acid employing <i>Brevibactcrium divaricatum</i> nov. sp.<br> By observing the time of formation, the kind and the amount of these by-products it was presumed that the L-glutamic acid formation with this strain most probably proceeds from glucose to pyruvic acid, and then to α-ketoglu-taric acid via Krebs TCA Cycle. L-Guutamic acid could be considered to be formed from α-keto-glutaric acid. The reductive amination reaction of α-ketoglutaric acid is assumed to be the main pathway of L-glutamic acid synthesis.

Eruption interval between Hb- and Px-types pyroclastic-flows from the Ohachidaira caldera of Taisetsu volcano, central Hokkaido, Japan, was estimated from the paleomagnetic directions. Px-type pyroclastic-flow deposit rests on Hb-type one, and gravel beds are intercalated between them. Oriented 138 samples were collected from 13 sites for paleomagnetic analysis. The paleomagnetic direction of Hb-type pyroclastic-flow deposit shows a normal polarity with a westerly declination(overall mean is N=7, D=-27.1°, I=66.3°, α_<95>=2.7°, k=511.2), while that of Px-type pyroclastic-flow deposit shows a normal polarity with an easterly declination (overall mean is N=6, D=19.8°, I=67.5°, α_<95>=4.6°, k=213.8). The two paleomagnetic directions are significantly different, and the time interval between the two pyroclastic eruptions is estimated to be more than about 100±40 years based on the geomagnetic secular variation in China, Russia, Europe, North America, and Japan.

The 'Farm-Supermarket Connection' is a policy in China that operates to promote farmers, farmer's co-operatives, and supermarket's undertaking direct transactions. The policy has seen many meaningful achievements. However, the supermarket sector has grown too large relative to farmers and, as such, the supermarket sector's buying power is damaging the 'Farm-Supermarket Connection' development. Specifically, supermarkets began to collect a 'slotting fee' from farmer's co-operatives, which seriously damaged the existing 'Farm-Supermarket Connection.' In order to solve this problem, the Chinese government has issued several new legislative points.
