Sleep deprivation has been shown to be associated with an increase in inflammatory makers such as interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relation between subjective poor sleep and white blood cell (WBC) count, an inflammatory marker. The subjects were 208 male Japanese workers in a synthetic fiber-manufacturing plant, who responded to a cross-sectional survey of a questionnaire on basic attributes, life style, and sleep. All male workers in the plant took an annual health checkup. WBC count was also examined in the checkup. The WBC count was greater in shift workers than in daytime workers. Shift workers complained of poor sleep more frequently, though their sleeping hours were longer. Multiple regression analysis showed that poor sleep as well as smoking habit, BMI and age were independent factors for an increase in WBC count, while sleeping hours and work pattern (shift work) were not significant factors. The present finding that poor sleep was associated with higher WBC count in male workers might suggest the importance of quality of sleep, particularly among shift workers.

Bioassay-guided fractionation of an ethanol extract of the brown alga, Dictyota dichotoma, led to the isolation of a novel chlorine-containing perhydroazulene diterpene together with two known diterpenes, dictyolactone and sanadaol. The structure of the novel compound, named dictyol J, was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic information. Dictyolactone showed the highest algicidal activity against red-tide phytoplanktons among the three isolated compounds.

渥美半島に分布する中部更新統渥美層群の田原層と豊橋層に挟在する2層のテフラの岩石学的特徴を記載・分析した.田原層赤沢泥部層に挟在するAt-3upテフラは,多孔質型と低発泡~無発泡のその他型の火山ガラス(n=1.505-1.508)と緑色普通角閃石(n2=1.674-1.683)によって特徴づけられ,その屈折率と火山ガラスの化学組成から,六甲山地西麓に分布する高塚山テフラに対比される.また,豊橋層寺沢泥部層に挟在するガラス質テフラを伊古部-1(Ikb-1)テフラとして新たに記載した.このテフラは主に扁平型で,その屈折率がn=1.501-1.503の火山ガラスから構成され,その屈折率と化学組成から,南九州を給源とする広域テフラの加久藤テフラに対比される.これらのテフラの対比に基づき,田原層と豊橋層の堆積した時期がそれぞれ主に海洋酸素同位体比ステージの11と9に対応することを明らかにした.

ブラックタイガー由来精製トロポミオシンを免疫原として,甲殻類トロポミオシンに特異的に反応するモノクローナル抗体を作製し,甲殻類トロポミオシン測定用のサンドイッチELISA法を確立した.本法では,甲殻類に分類されるえび類,かに類,やどかり類,おきあみ類のトロポミオシンとは交差率82~102%と全般的に反応したが,軟体動物に分類されるいか類,たこ類,貝類トロポミオシンとの交差率は0.1%未満であった.また,食品全般においても甲殻類以外で反応は認められなかった.検出感度は甲殻類由来総タンパク質として0.16ppmであり,食品表示に求められる数ppmレベルの測定に十分な感度であった.再現性もCV値10%未満であったことから,精度よく測定できると考えられた.さらに,食品由来成分の存在下においてもマトリックスの影響を受けないこと,加熱により変性を受けた場合にも測定可能なことを確認した.したがって,本法は甲殻類由来トロポミオシンに対して特異的であり,加工食品における甲殻類検知法として使用可能であると考えられた.

ヒトの網膜には色覚,すなわち色を感じるために赤,緑,青に対応した3種類の視覚センサー=視覚オプシンが存在する.脊椎動物の中で魚類と霊長類は色覚が多様性に富む点で特異である.たとえば新世界ザルはオプシン遺伝子のアレル多型によって2色型と3色型からなる高度な色覚多型を示す.この多型は強い自然選択圧により維持されているが,2色型と3色型のどちらか一方が有利とは必ずしもいえない.ここでは,魚類と霊長類の視覚センサー遺伝子の適応と進化の経緯を検討する中で,色覚の多様性の意味を考える.

大建中湯は消化管術後イレウスや過敏性腸症候群に対して臨床的有用性の高い漢方方剤として知られている.動物を用いた基礎的検討により,本剤はモルヒネ誘発性の消化管障害に対して改善効果を示すことが報告されている.また大建中湯の主要な薬理作用は消化管運動亢進作用と腸管粘膜血流増加作用であり,その作用機序として消化管ペプチドの関与が報告されている.しかしながら現在まで担がん患者のモルヒネ誘発性便秘に対する大建中湯の臨床効果と消化管ペプチドとの関連については不明なままである.本研究では,モルヒネ誘発性便秘を有する担がん患者を対象として大建中湯の効果および消化管機能を反映する5種の消化管ペプチドの血漿中濃度に与える効果について検討した.対象はがん性疼痛に対してモルヒネ治療後に便秘を生じた7名の担がん患者で,大建中湯投与前後における各消化管ペプチドの血漿中濃度を高感度酵素免疫測定法により測定した.また,消化器症状への効果については大建中湯投与前後のGastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale(GSRS)質問表により検討した.モルヒネ誘発性便秘に対する大建中湯の効果について検討した結果では,大建中湯の投与によりGSRSの便秘サブスコアは7例中4例で有意に低下した.次にGSRS便秘サブスコアが改善した有効群と,変化がなかった無効群で血漿中消化管ペプチド濃度を比較した.その結果,両群ともに健常人と比較して血漿中モチリン濃度は有意に低値であったが,大建中湯投与後,有効群では健常人と同程度の濃度まで上昇し,無効群と比較して有意な上昇が認められた.一方,血漿中calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)濃度も有効群で上昇傾向が認められた.以上の結果から,大建中湯のモルヒネ誘発性便秘への作用は,発現時間および臨床症状ともに血漿中モチリンの変動によってよく説明されるものであり,大建中湯の臨床効果との関連が示唆された.

超音波振動から直線運動や回転運動を得る超音波アクチュエータについて,摩擦駆動の超音波モータを中心に,その原理と構成例,得られる特性について解説する.圧電セラミックス素子で発生した往復運動である振動から一方向運動を得るための原理として,複合振動形と進行波形に分けて説明し,複合振動形を例に得られるべき性能を論じる.また,それぞれの方式で直線運動を得る構成方法,回転運動を得る構成方法を具体的に紹介する.また,効率や寿命を改善する最近の試みについても述べる.

The *Suvarnasaptatisastra, which is an important treatise of Samkhya philosophy, survives only in the Chinese translation done by Paramartha 眞諦 sometime between 548 and 569. Commentarial tradition begins with the citations from it found in the Chengweishi ulun shuji 成唯識論述記, written in Tang China, and continues with a real exegetical boom in 18th century Japan. Although the Japanese exegetes refer to the same passage cited in the Chengweishi/un shuji, they express different opinions concerning the *Suvarnasaptatisastra. I analyse the interpretations of this passage in the Kin shichiju ron biko 金七十論備考 by Gyo'o Gonzo 曉應嚴藏 (1724-1785), the Kin shichiju ron sho 金七十論疏 by Chido Hoju 智幢法住 (1723-1800), the Kin shichiju ron ge 金七十論解 by Shuro 宗朗 (?-1788), and the Kin shichiju ron so kyo 金七十論藻鏡 by Rinjo Kaido 林常快道 (1751-1810) and focus mainly upon their understanding of the relation between the prose parks of the *Suvarnasaptatisastra and Vasubandhu.

手指対立運動時の感覚運動野(sensorimotor cortex: SMC)の賦活の左右差を,機能的MRIを用いて検討した。対象は右利きの健常成人12名で,1秒間に1回の速度で連続的に手指対立運動を自発的に行う課題を右手,左手各々において行った。右手,左手運動時の対側SMCの平均賦活信号強度は,右手運動より左手運動で有意に高かった(右手,左手,各々11.68,16.82, p<0.05)。さらに,右手運動時は対側SMCのみに賦活が見られたのに対して,左手運動時は両側SMCに賦活がみられた。以上の結果は,巧緻性の低い左手は右手に比べ、多くの神経活動を必要とすることを示唆している。

Injuries to the thoracic and lumbar spine may result in severe instability with progressive neurologic defecit. Attention must be directed not only to restoring or improving neurologic function where possible, but also to promoting bony stability.We have carried out one stage decompression-stabilization procedure consisted of Harrington and anterior spinal fusion with anterior decompression in a total of 6 patients. All 6 of these with thoraco-lumbar spinal injuries had a neurogic defecit.The results have shown to be beneficial in restoring spinal alignment, allowing early mobilization of the patients, shortening rehabilitation, preventing the late complications of increasing deformity in all patients and recovering neurologic function in 4 cases with incomplete neurologic defecit.

This article examines the relationship between citizenship and the public recognition of Islam in France. Secularization is a cultural norm in Western Europe. In this circumstance, the settlement of the Muslim population with the claim for the public recognition of Islam has often been regarded as a threat against the idea of citizenship. In particular, ‘French citizenship’ appears antagonistic towards the public recognition of religious belonging. This is due to the fact that religion as a matter in the private space should be separated from the public space according to the model of republicanism deeply embedded in the French political culture based on the principle of separation of the public space from the private, or more specifically, the principle of laïcité (separation of religion from politics). This citizenship appreciates the public space as the space of universal values, in which the citizens discuss issues they have in common. In this framework, all individuals are entitled to have citizenship regardless of their origins or social backgrounds.But in reality the majority of French Muslims, who are mainly of Maghrebin origin, are discriminated against and excluded socially and economically. The social right, which is part of citizenship, in particular, is not effectively assured for them. Given this, the social and economic conditions on which Muslims could participate in the public space are not fully developed, and hence citizenship for those people lacks substance. Since the 1990's, the number of the new generation of Maghrebin immigrants who have started to claim for the public recognition of Islam has increased. These Muslims organize and run associations whose purposes are to encourage and educate young French Muslims in order to restore their dignity, the dignity eroded by the experience of being the target of racism. These associations are normally open to anybody, and are based on universal values such as social justice rather than ethnic origins.In 1996, some of these associations organized a network called “Collectif des associations Musulmanes du Grand Lyon”, in the east suburb of Lyon. CAMGL is considered as representative of the trend of these associations. CAMGL regards Tariq RAMADAN whose grandfather is Hassan Al Banna, a founding member of the Muslim brotherhood in Egypt, as the ideologue of the network. Since it teaches Islamic faith as a basis of ‘citizenship’, CAMGL is perceived as a threat against the republican model of citizenship.In this article, the author argue that the recent trend observed in CAMGL offers some potential to propose the new form of republican model of citizenship based on universal values, but constructed through a different sense of belongings.

Carpal boss is a bony prominence involving the carpometacarpal (CM) joint of the index and long fingers.Two symptomatic cases of carpal boss were reported. These cases were successfully treated with excision of localized bony prominence, together with degenerated joint surface.

内部告発は組織における不正行為を暴露して制止させるだけではなく,新たな不正行為を抑止する効果がある.内部告発は内部告発者本人の動機付けと第3者の内部告発に対する許容度の2つ側面がある.前者は潜在的な告発者の告発行動を起こす意向で,後者は,社会や組織構成員の内部告発・内部告発者に対する態度からの影響である.適切な内部告発を推進する環境や内部告発に関する効果的な教育プログラムを作るために,本研究は内部告発行動や内部告発及び告発者に対する態度に対する個人特性・組織特性の影響について社会調査で調べ,その結果に基づいて社会心理学の視点から内部告発に関する制度や教育プログラムに対する提案を試み,内部告発に関する社会心理学研究の役割と方向について検討した.

アカイロマメゾウムシCallosobruchus analisは,同属の他種と似た産卵習性を持ち,1粒のアズキに複数の卵を産むにもかかわらず,生育を完了して羽化脱出するのは1個体に限られるという特異的な現象がある。実験の結果,1粒のアズキは量的には複数個体を生育させるのに十分であり,共存個体の死亡要因は同一の豆の内部における幼虫の激しい攻撃に起因すると推定するに至った。すなわち,成虫脱出後の豆を解体調査したところ,本種の主要食害部は,豆の中央域に限られていることが明らかとなり,それによって生じた空洞部またはその一偶にぬり固められた摂食物残渣塊の中から主として3齢または4齢(終齢)幼虫の死体が見出された。そして,これらの死亡個体の体表から,他個体の攻撃によると思われる咬傷痕が発見された。さらには,この攻撃性に加えて主要食害部が,同属の他種においては豆の周縁部に多いのとは対象的に,本種の場合は中央域に限られるため,幼虫生育の中∼後期に相互の幼虫が遭遇することとなり,最終的には1個体を残して他は咬み殺されると推定するに至った。1粒の豆から2個体の成虫が羽化したまれな例の場合は,すべて豆の中央域に2つの食害部があり,その間は摂食物残渣塊で完全に隔離されていることがわかった。結局,このような偶然の隔離がない場合は,発育期間のいずれかの時期に,最終的には1個体しか残り得ないと解されたが,幼虫の形態には大腮を含めて攻撃的行動を特別に想起させる特徴は見出せなかった。なお,本種に見られたこのような攻撃性は,他の多化性のマメゾウムシ類では,従来知られていない。
