In all eucaryotic cells, specific vesicle fusion during vesicular transport is mediated by membrane-associated proteins called SNAREs (soluble N-ethyl-maleimide sensitive factor attachment protein receptors).<br> Sequence analysis identified a total of 54 SNARE genes (18 Qa-SNAREs/Syntaxins, 11 Qb-SNAREs, 8 Qc-SNAREs, 14 R-SNAREs/VAMPs and 3 SNAP-25) in the <i>Arabidopsis</i> genome. Almost all of them were ubiquitously expressed through out all tissues examined. A series of transient expression assays using green fluorescent protein (GFP) fused proteins revealed that most of the SNARE proteins were located on specific intracellular compartments: 6 in the endoplasmic reticulum, 9 in the Golgi apparatus, 4 in the <i>trans</i>-Golgi network (TGN), 2 in endosomes, 17 on the plasma membrane, 7 in both the prevacuolar compartment (PVC) and vacuoles, 2 in TGN/PVC/vacuoles, and 1 in TGN/PVC/plasma membrane.<br> Some SNARE proteins showed multiple localization patterns in two or more different organelles, suggesting that these SNAREs shuttle between the organelles. Furthermore, the SYP41/SYP61-residing compartment, which was defined as the TGN, was not always located along with the Golgi apparatus, suggesting that this compartment is an independent organelle distinct from the Golgi apparatus. We propose possible combinations of SNARE proteins on all subcellular compartments, and suggest the complexity of the post-Golgi membrane traffic in higher plant cells.<br>

毎年,全国でムササビの幼獣や傷病獣が保護されている。しかしながら,これらの保護個体に対する飼育管理の基礎的知見は少ない。このため,飼育管理の状況を把握することを目的に全国の動物園施設に対しアンケート調査を行うと共に,飼料給与の基礎的な知見を得るために飼育下の個体を用いて樹葉の嗜好性を試験した。アンケートでは,対象動物をムササビと他のリス科動物とし,飼養実態,繁殖状況,疾病寄生虫について調査した。リス類は1施設の飼育頭数が多く群飼育していた。導入経路は,ムササビでは野生保護個体が半数であるのに対し,リス類は施設内での繁殖個体がほとんどであった。繁殖状況では,ムササビは13年間飼育していて1回だけ繁殖したといった例があげられた。リス類は年に1~2度出産するといった安定した成績がみられる施設が多かった。給与飼料は,ムササビでは樹葉を給与している施設が多く,他には果物,根菜,葉菜を給与し,リス類では果物類に加え動物質の飼料や種子,堅果などが給与されていた。これら飼料の栄養成分としてムササビは食物繊維含量が高く,リス類ではタンパク質,脂質含量,エネルギーが高い傾向にあった。ムササビ,リス類共に寄生虫は少なく,ムササビでは肺炎,リス類では外傷由来の死亡原因が多かった。飼育個体を対象とした樹葉の嗜好性について,厚木キャンパス内の16の樹種を用いて,カフェテリア方式で調査した。その結果,ニセアカシア,イヌシデ,コナラの順に嗜好性は高く,逆に,イチョウ,マツ,ツバキ,スギの順に嗜好性は低かった。この結果は,一般的な森林に棲息するムササビの食性調査のデータと同様の傾向と考えられた。

In the WWI era, the Japanese economy enjoyed an abnormal boom rised by the war in Europe. Japanese exports increased by enormous scale and brought huge external receipts. Discarding the gold-standard system, the Japanese economy lost the adjusting mechanism which the goldstandard system warranted. The money supply increased and thereby the inflation hit the people's life so that there were riots for shortage of rice in the summer 1918 (Kome-Sodo). This Kome-Sodo riots fall the Terauchi Administration. And after Terauchi, Takashi Hara took office as the first party cabinet in Japan. So the cabinet was changed, but the economic policies were not changed so much. Both administrations took an expansive policies which caused severe inflation and brought an enormous bubble in 1919. The Hara Administration was under control of Hanbatsu fraction. Therefore, Hara could not and would not change the policies (for example, badget) of former administration. That caused disappointment to the party cabinet and democracy in general and paved the way to militarism. This paper dealts with the economic and political causes which lied in desicion process for economic policies in that period by reviewing the newspapers and the journals.

TSH receptor antibodies (TRAb) are generally regarded as mediators of thyroid stimulation in Graves' disease. In addition, a high serum TRAb value during pregnancy is one of the risk factors for intrauterine death, prematurity, and fetal or neonatal hyperthyroidism. Recently, correlations between a high serum TRAb value and endocrine opthalmopathy were also suggested. Surgical resection of the thyroid is usually followed by a reduction of serum TRAb levels in variable degrees. The relation between the extent of the thyroidectomy and the degree of reduction is still controversial. In addition, the changes in the TRAb value after total thyroidectomy (TT) over a long period of time have never been studied. We studied the changes in serum TRAb values after TT and subtotal thyroidectomy (ST) for more than 7 years. Forty-one patients with Graves' disease underwent TT, and 99 patients underwent ST. The serum TRAb values and the ratio of the patients who achieved normal values among each group (normalization rates of TRAb) at 3 and 6 months, 1, 3, 5 and 7 years after surgery were compared between the TT group and ST group. The mean preoperative TRAb values were not significantly different between the TT and ST groups, and the mean TRAb values measured 3, 6 and 12 months after surgery were not significantly different between the groups. 本研究はニュ−ラルネットワ−クを用いて風力発電の最大電力制御を行うシステムを提案する。本発電システムは誘導発電機を用いニュ−ラルネットワ−クによって最大電力を発電するよう回転速度制御を行い、風車が発電した電力をインバ−タを通して配電系統に供給する。このようなニュ−ラルネットワ−クは、自然風を作成するプログラムを用い、風車特性をサンプリングし教師デ−タを作成し学習させることで構築する。このニュ−ラルネットワ−クを用いて最大電力追従が良好に行えることがシミュレ−ションより分かった。

Split-pit in peach fruit is a problematic disorder. Split-pit fruit cannot be detected based on external appearance, and contamination of fruit by split-pit reduces its reliability in the marketplace. Here, we demonstrate that split-pit fruit can be identified by a nondestructive acoustic vibration method and a unique approach based on the ratio of the third (f3) to the second (f2) resonant frequency. The response-resonant frequency spectra showed that the peaks of f2 frequencies in split-pit fruit were shifted to much lower values than those in normal fruit, whereas those of f3 frequencies showed only small shifts. The calculated f3/f2 ratios in most normal fruit were in the range of 1.35–1.4, whereas those in split-pit fruit were 1.45–2.0. Analysis of more than 300 fruit samples revealed that by setting the f3/f2 cut-off value at >1.45, 95% of split-pit fruit in the fruit samples were detected, whereas only 1.5% of normal fruit were missorted as split-pit fruit. A model for simulating the vibration properties of peach fruit was developed by using the finite element method. The simulated vibration patterns showed that f3/f2 values were increased by the insertion of split pit, indicating that, at least partially, the observed high f3/f2 values in split-pit fruit directly reflected split-pit occurrence. These results clearly demonstrate that the use of f3/f2 ratios obtained using an acoustic vibration method can effectively detect fruit with split-pit. The possibility of installing acoustic vibration devices in peach sorting lines and the application of portable devices to unpicked fruit on the tree are discussed.

A 68-year-old man presented with polyarthritis, proximal muscle weakness, and erythema of the face, arms, neck, and anterior chest that resembled the V-neck sign. Initially, dermatomyositis (DM) was considered because of the erythema, polyarthritis, and muscle weakness. He also had mediastinal and hilar lymphadenopathy on contrast-enhanced computed tomography. Unexpectedly, a biopsy of the forehead skin revealed numerous multinucleated giant cells. A biopsy of a solitary nodule on the dorsum of his right middle finger revealed similar multinucleated giant cells with ground-glass cytoplasm, leading to the diagnosis of multicentric reticulohistiocytosis (MRH). Although MRH is rare, it should be remembered that MRH can mimic DM.

A modofied method was established to extracted BMP from bovine bone. SDS-PAGE and Westen blotting were apllied to analize the components of this partially purified BMP. In addition the amino acid sequence was studied using protein sequencer to analyze the unknown bands. Type I collagen derived from bone was used as a carrier whose properties and advantages were studied. The following conclusions are made from this study. 1. The limitation of molecluar weight in tbe early step of BMP purification procedure improves purification efficiency and stability, which makes the applicadon of BMP in big animalos possible. 2. In this method the purified BMP product also contains histone H3, histone 2B and other unknown proteins as well as BMP-2. 3. The atelocollagen derived from bone has proved to be an useful carrier for BMP. This carrier shows characteristics of self absorption and recalcification when embedded in tissues. 4. The minimun bone induction dose of BMP at each step (G-Ext:500μg, Hep:30μg, S200:50μg) and the optimal bone induction dose(G-Ext:5.0mg, Hep:2.0mg, S200:0.3mg) are determined, which makes the applicalion of BMP in cellular biology possible.

It has been reported that reduction of masticatory afferent stimulation might influence learning and memory function. In order to clarify the influences of reduced masticatory sensory input on spatial memory/learning ability and neuropathological changes, we conducted the Morris water maze experiment and investigated the number of hippocampal neurons in association with the differences in masticatory afferent stimuli from hard- and soft-diet feeding in mice. The water maze experiment showed no significant difference in learning ability between 180-day-old solid- and powderdiet groups. Meanwhile, the ability was significantly reduced in the 360-day-old powder-diet group as compared with the age-matched solid-diet group. The total number of pyramidal cells in the hippocampal CA1 and CA3 regions was significantly smaller in 360-day-old powder-diet group than in the remaining groups. These results demonstrate that reduction of masticatory afferent stimuli due to long-term soft-diet feeding may induce neuron loss in the hippocampus and reduced memory/learning ability.

Fire prevention planning is based on requirements in building regulations and laws. It's unclear how much its effective safety is. It usually doesn't consider its cost. Building regulations and laws will be rewritten on the performance in fire prevention. This paper suggests the system that evaluates evacuation safety, and that considers the fireproof cost. This system estimates the cost with public data and estimates evacuation safety with the comparison of smoke behavior and people's one under fire. Finally we applied this system to a model of office building and made clear effective fire prevention planning and their combination.

The ratios of stable isotopes of certain elements in rocks and minerals have strong regional characteristics that are reflected in atmospheric components, in water, and in the living organisms that form Earth’s surface environment as well as in agricultural and fishery products. Geologically derived stable isotope ratios can be used as a tracer for the source of many kinds of substances, with current geochemical techniques allowing the precise determination of numerous stable isotope ratios in both natural and manmade objects. This review presents examples of the use of stable isotopes as tracers within diverse dynamic ecosystems, focusing on Sr isotopes but also including examples of Nd and Pb isotopic analysis, and reviewing the potential of this technique for a wide range of environmental research, including determining the geographic origin of food and archeological materials.

An octannulate Orobdella leech, Orobdella octonaria Oka, 1895, is redescribed on the basis of one syntype collected from Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, and two newly obtained specimens, also from Hakone. It is distinguished from the other known species of Orobdella by its octannulate mid-body somites. No holotype of this species was originally designated. The present syntype from Hakone is designated as the lectotype of O. octonaria for the purpose of clarifying its taxonomic status and type locality.

The growth and berry quality of ‘Ruby Roman’ (Vitis labruscana) grapevines grafted on two species of rootstock, ‘Kober 5BB’ [‘5BB(2×)’] (V. berlandieri × V. riparia, a semi-dwarf rootstock) and ‘Hybrid Franc’ [‘HF(2×)’] (V. rupestris × V. vinifera, a vigorous rootstock), and their colchicine-induced autotetraploids [‘5BB(4×)’ and ‘HF(4×)’] were investigated through 2 years of pot cultivation followed by 2 years of ground cultivation. During the nursery stage, the survival rate and root and shoot growth of the grafted cuttings in the two diploid rootstocks were obviously greater than in their corresponding tetraploids. During subsequent cultivation in pots and in the ground, the grapevines grafted on ‘5BB(4×)’ had less shoot growth (weight and length), shorter internode length, and in some cases smaller stem diameter than those grafted on ‘5BB(2×)’. However, in contrast with ‘5BB’, there was no significant difference in total vine growth between ‘HF(2×)’ and ‘HF(4×)’ during pot cultivation, and the total shoot length and weight in the ‘HF(4×)’ grapevine was greater than in ‘HF(2×)’ during ground cultivation in 2014. After 2 years of pot cultivation, the root growth of the ‘HF’ (diploid and tetraploid) rootstocks was more vigorous than that of the ‘5BB’ (diploid and tetraploid) rootstocks. In addition, the proportions of the thin roots (diameters <1 mm) in the two diploid rootstocks [‘5BB(2×)’ and ‘HF(2×)’] were greater than those in the two tetraploid rootstocks [‘5BB(4×)’ and ‘HF(4×)’]. In contrast, the proportions of the thick roots (diameters 1–2 mm, 2–5 mm, and >5 mm) in the two diploid rootstocks were less than those in the two tetraploid rootstocks. Furthermore, the berries of ‘Ruby Roman’ harvested from the grapevines grafted on ‘5BB(4×)’ exhibited a much deeper skin coloration than those harvested from the other grapevines.

本研究は、難聴者への否定的な態度にどのような価値観が関わっているかを探索的に調べた。研究1では、難聴の子を取り巻く周囲の子ども達が変容した学級について、担任教師へインタビューを行った。インタビューより、周囲の子ども達は、難聴の子どもに対する態度だけでなく、自閉症スペクトラム障害の子どもへの態度や、授業での様子など、学級全体の雰囲気が変わっていったことが語られた。担任教師の教育観から、子ども達の中で失敗に対する価値観に変化が生じていたことが推測された。研究2では、直接そのことを調べるため、質問紙調査によって失敗観と他者への態度に関連があるかを調べた。その際、難聴者だけでなく、健常者、吃音者も対象とした。その結果、否定的な失敗観が強い人ほど、他者との交流に対して抵抗感を感じており、その傾向は相手が健常者である場合よりも難聴者や吃音者である場合の方が強かった。これらより、難聴者を含む障害者への偏見や他者への寛容さの問題に対して、自己の価値観と向き合うことが重要であることが示唆された。

The 80thAnnual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society was held in Sendai, Japan, on March 18–20, 2016, which coincided with the 5thanniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake that hit the Tohoku area on March 11, 2011. Thus, the main themes for this meeting were “The Past, Present and Future of Cardiovascular Medicine in Japan” and “The 5thAnniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake”. Despite the provincial location, approximately 15,000 people attended during the 3-day meeting, and there were in-depth discussions in each of the various sessions on these themes. Especially, to our great pleasure, the Japanese Royals, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, kindly visited the panel exhibition of the Great East Japan Earthquake and spoke words of appreciation to us. The meeting successfully completed and we sincerely appreciate the great cooperation and support from all affiliates.
