The following were the findings made through the investigation of 17 marine and 3 fresh-water fishes as regards the manner of distribution of Vitamin A. Those which contain a large amount of Vitamin A in livers are "Saba", "Buri", "Ishidai", "Ara", "Mejina", "Hokke", "Aburatsunozame", "Mebachi", "Makajiki", "Mekajiki" and "Ishinagi". Those which contain a large amount of Vitamin A in pyloric caecum are "Saba", "Buri", "Ara" and "Hokke". Those which contain a large amount of Vitamin A in intestines are "Buri" and "Ara". The above-mentioned are of great value as resources of Vitamin A, if we choose suitable seasons and places of fishing.

Keratometry was performed in 73 domestic cats of varied signalment in Japan using an automated handheld keratometer. The mean corneal curvature radius was significantly lower for cats younger than 1 year than for those older than 2 years (8.04 mm vs. 8.80−8.99 mm, P<0.01). The radius was significantly greater in males than in females among the cats older than 11 years (9.22 mm vs. 8.84 mm, P=0.01), while the age distributions of the males and females were similar. Corneal astigmatism did not significantly differ across the gender and age groups. The predictability of the corneal curvature and astigmatism was approximately 41−43% and less than 3%, respectively, as a function of age and bodyweight. The results highlighted some age- and sex-related keratometric variations in domestic cats in Japan.

Trigeminal neuropathy is characterized by numbness in the skin or mucosa in the distribution of the trigeminal nerves, sometimes in association with pain. Sensory deficits in the lower lip and tongue frequently causes difficulties with speech and eating. Thus, numbness in the trigeminal distribution is more distressin than numbness involving spinal dermatomes. The differential diagnosis of the causative diseases underlying the trigeminal neuropathy is difficult, because a spectrum of pathophysiological conditions may affect the trigeminal nerves, including traumatic, vascular, inflammatory, demyelinating, infectious, and neoplastic disorders. Moreover, trigeminal neuropathy develops in isolation or in combination with other neurological deficits of nearby cranial nerves or extremity. Trigeminal neuropathy may also be the presenting manifestation of malignancy, autoimmune disease, or vascular hemorrhage or ischemia of the brainstem. Thus, the findings of orofacial numbness necessitate a comprehensive assessment of all aspects of the trigeminal pathways, which may include neurophysiological, radiographic, and laboratory evaluation in addition to the careful medical interview. In this review, we illustrated some of the principal pathological conditions causing trigeminal neuropathy.

Water splash caused by an elastic tire rolling on a wet road is simulated using SPH method. Fluid-structure inter action model is newly proposed to couple the fluid motion and the elastic tire. The result shows that the water discharge capability strongly depends on the grooved patterns, and the tire receives lift and drag forces from the water.

The hijra, the starting point of the Islamic state as well as of its calender, has been investigated in detail by modern scholars. Most of investigations, however, tend to center on migrators but a few on acceptors. Even the works of W. M. Watt, being very excellent and exact, want a vivid expression of the dynamic development of Islam in the Medinan society during a few years around the Muhammad's hijra.Twelve, the number of the participants of the first 'Aqaba in the year of 621, 75, the participants of the second 'Aqaba in 622, and then 238, the participants of the battle of Badr in 624, might be near to the total number of the Medinan believers at each stage of times. These figures show the steady development of Islam in the society. Even the participants of the battle, however, might share less than ten percent of the male adult populations of Medina. None of twelve leaders, elected by Muhammd at the time of the, second 'Aqaba, were a political-military leader of any clan or sub-clan during the civil wars in the pre-Islamic time. It should be noted that the movement for Islam in Medina before the hijra, was organized by not so influencial persons and it covered only a few percent of the total population of the society. The movement had a solid political goal, that was to stop the civil wars and to unite the society into one. Most of the persons who did not recognize Muhammad as a prophet and who were not converted, backed this goal and then, the movement became the main political current of the society. Sa'd b. Mu'adh, one of the strong leaders of the civil wars, was converted and supported the movement. 'Amr b. al-Jamuh, also an influencial leader, taking an indifferent attitude to the movement at first, became a supporter of this by the persuasions of his sons and grandsons. Abu Qays b. al-Aslat, a monk and another strong leader of the civil wars, offered oppositions to the movement. He might be a big obstacle to the progress of the movement, but died ten month after the Muhammad's hijra. Ibn Ubayy, being the most influencial man in Medina after the death of the two supreme commanders of the civil wars, did not become a supporter nor a opponant to the movement. Thus, believers could represent the whole society and concluded the treaty of peace, which should be the first part of the Constitution of Medina.

Jala-hatthapada is one of the thirty-two characteristics of a great man like the Buddha. In Northern Buddhism, it implies that He had membranes/webs between the digits of His hands and feet. However, Buddhaghosa's commentaries refute this idea. Buddhaghosa argues that under the rule of the Vinaya, such a man cannot become even a monk. Moreover, the commentaries explain that the lines formed by the digits and their knots in the great man appear like nets. Some scholars argued this matter and concluded that the idea of webbed digits emanated from a misinterpretation of the sculptures of the Buddha, whose digits were connected by sculptors to prevent them from fracturing. In this paper, I attempt to demonstrate that the idea of webbed digits originates from the Sarvastivada school. The evidence is as follows. The word “hamsa-raja” (the king of ganders) appears as a simile of jalini-panipada (=jala-hatthapada) in a Sanskrit scripture, namely, the Mahavadana-sutra, and in the Chinese versions of other sutras; all of these were disseminated by the same school. Moreover, I found pictures of two sculptures with webbed digits, probably carved between the 2nd and 3rd centuries in Mathura, where the Sarvastivada school was influential.
