「スパイ行為じゃないか」「外部の素人に何が分かる」。今春、ファミリーマートの上田準二社長は、一部の加盟店オーナーから、こんな批判を浴びた。今年初めに店舗の運営状況を把握するため、外部の企業を使った覆面調査を実施したのが原因だった。全国に約5700ある店舗すべてを対象に、接客や清掃、品揃えなど16項目の水準をチェックした。

2000年10月にオープンした「ファミマ・ドット・コム」は,ファミリーマートが約150億円もの資金を投入する大規模サイト。iモード対応の携帯電話や,店舗に設置するマルチメディア端末からもアクセスできる。システム開発はアウトソーシングを徹底活用し,約5カ月という短期間でサイトの開設にこぎ着けた。

Background:Ascending and abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAs) are asymptomatic, permanent dilations of the aorta with surgical intervention as the currently available therapy. Hippo-Yap signaling cascade plays a critical role in stem cell self-renewal, tissue regeneration and organ size control. By using XMU-MP-1, a pharmacological inhibitor of the key component of Hippo-Yap signaling, MST1/2, we examined the functional contribution of Hippo-Yap in the development of AAs in Angiotensin II (AngII)-infused hypercholesterolemic mice.Methods and Results:MST, p-MST, p-YAP, p-MOB and TAZ proteins in AngII-infused ascending and abdominal aortas were assessed by immunohistochemical and western blot analyses. To examine the effect of MST1/2 inhibition on AAs, western diet-fed low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor −/− mice infused with AngII were administered with either vehicle or XMU-MP-1 for 5 weeks. Hippo-YAP signaling proteins were significantly elevated in AngII infused ascending and abdominal aortas. XMU-MP-1 administration resulted in the attenuation of AngII-induced ascending AAs without influencing abdominal AAs and aortic atherosclerosis. Inhibition of Hippo-YAP signaling also resulted in the suppression of AngII-induced matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2) activity, macrophage accumulation, aortic medial hypertrophy and elastin breaks in the ascending aorta.Conclusions:The present study demonstrates a pivotal role for the Hippo-YAP signaling pathway in AngII-induced ascending AA development.

「泥火山」は地下から流体と堆積物を地表に至らせ地形的特徴を形成する地質学的現象だが,地熱地帯,油田地帯,そして堆積物優勢地域など幅広い地質学的バックグラウンドをもって分布する泥火山の活動は未だ理解されたとは言えない.泥火山が地下から運ぶ流体と堆積物は地下の性状を反映すると考えられ,掘削では技術的に到達が困難な大深度の情報を持つと期待される.日本における泥火山は海洋で数が多く活動的である.泥火山群発海域に地震津波観測のために敷設された大規模観測網は海域泥火山活動モニタリング手法を拓きつつあるし,火星の泥火山はこれら研究が惑星科学にも寄与する可能性を示唆する.長く地質学者の関心を引きつけてきた泥火山は,いま日本で新しい研究局面を迎えつつある.

The ecdysone receptor (EcR) possesses the remarkable capacity to adapt structurally to different types of ligands. EcR binds ecdysteroids, including 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E), as well as nonsteroidal synthetic agonists such as insecticidal dibenzoylhydrazines (DBHs). Here, we report the crystal structures of the ligand-binding domains of Heliothis virescens EcR/USP bound to the DBH agonist BYI09181 and to the imidazole-type compound BYI08346. The region delineated by helices H7 and H10 opens up to tightly fit a phenyl ring of the ligands to an extent that depends on the bulkiness of ring substituent. In the structure of 20E-bound EcR, this part of the ligand-binding pocket (LBP) contains a channel filled by water molecules that form an intricate hydrogen bond network between 20E and LBP. The water channel present in the nuclear receptor bound to its natural hormone acts as a critical molecular adaptation spring used to accommodate synthetic agonists inside its binding cavity.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the development of an international curriculum and its extention to national education systems. Here we will focus mainly on the International Baccalaureate (IB). As the mobility across national borders for business grows year after year, families are obliged to stay for only a limited time in one country or another. For this reason, the problem of how to meet the conditions of schooling for the children of these families has become a pressing one. This phenomenon has brought about the rapid development and numerical increase of international schools. But international schools as 'a kind of educational department offer several different juxtaposed national streams which are less integrated and original. Such a situation is not only inconvenient for students who are trying to prepare for an examination, but also unhelpful in fostering international understanding through a common curriculum. For this reason, people feel the need for a common or standardised curriculum in the primary and secondary stages of education, along with a comprehensive examination programme. The International Schools Association (ISA) and other such International Organisations are trying to establish a common or standardised curriculum. The project of the IB in the 1960's was to develop for the first time a standardised curriculum and examination system to facilitate students admission to universities of various countries. The characteristics of the IB curriculum are as follows: (1) In order to meet the needs of every student and the requirement of each country, the IB curriculum consists of 'Six Subject Groups' (hexagon) in which each student can choose six subjects and 'Three Requirements' (Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, CAS). These 'Three Requirements' express the originality of an international curriculum in addition to fulfilling the compulsory subjects. (2) In the assesment of examinations and the development of a new curriculum, feedback from participating schools plays an important role in fostering the reciprocity or pertnership between international schools and the IB Organisation. (3) In proportion to the extention of the IB programme, due to its excellence and originality, it is being used by national systems of education in many countries as a supplement to their own systems. But its diffusion has not been uniform. It is rather easy to accept the IB diploma in nations where there is no existing national system of examination such as in the UK, USA or Canada. On the other hand, where there exists a rigid national-diploma system for education, such as in France or Germany, it is very difficult for the IB diploma to find acceptance. In spite of its philosophy and organisation, the IB is heavily biased towards the Anglo-Saxon systems of education. Therefore, the IB is confronted with a dilemma: how to balance the preference for particular nationalities with an truly "international" curriculum.

サルスベリの花色育種に関する基礎資料を得る目的で, 紅色~紫色の変異機構の解明を試みた. 結果は以下の通りである.1. シアニック系67個体の測色で, 紅色系 (b/a,-0.183~+0.165) と紫色系 (同, -0.785~-0.442) に大別された.2. 生花弁の吸収スペクトル測定では, 紅色系は524~544nm, 紫色系は, 555~570nmにλmaxがあり,紫色系において360nm付近に強い吸収が観察された.また, E360/EVIS.maxとb/aの間には, 高い負の相関(r=-0.897***) がみられた.3. 含有する主要アントシアニンは, 紅色, 紫色ともDp3G, Pt3GおよびMv3Gであった. これら3色素の量比は, 大きく変異するが, 全体でみるとb/a値との間には相関関係はなかった. ただし, 紅色系に限るとMv3G比 (Dp3G比) とb/aには負の (正の) 相関がみられた.4. 花弁細胞液のpHの測定値は, 4.2~5.1の範囲で, 変異した. しかし, これと花色には, 有意な相関はなかった.5. 粗抽出水溶液を酢酸エチルと振って分画し, 水分画に酢酸エチル分画を加えることにより, 吸収極大は長波長側にシフトし, 逆に粗抽出液を酢酸エチルで洗浄することにより, 短波長側に移動した.6. TLC分析により, エラグ酸誘導体と考えられる物質が, 特に紫色花弁に多量含まれることより, この物質がサルスベリの花の青色化に関係する主要なコピグメントの一つであると推定された.

医療福祉相談室(以下,相談室)における看護師の役割を明らかにするために,相談室の看護師が関わった相談者150人の初回相談時の主な相談内容を調査した。相談者で一番多かったのは看護師70人(46.7%)で,内容としては医療器具に関する事38件(25.3%),在宅療養27件(18.0%),退院に向けて25件(16.7%)の相談であった。相談解決のために,当院の医療スタッフ,市町村役場,保健所,訪問看護ステーション等の関係職種に協力を求めた。相談室における看護師の役割として,医療用消耗品の選定・情報提供を行う事,病状や家庭事情に合わせた社会福祉資源を検討する事,病院内外を問わず関係職種との連絡調整を行う等の役割があることが示唆された。

Two experiments were designed to examine the relationship between elaboration and to-be-elaborated items in paired-associate learning. In the first task of both experiments, 20 subjects were presented with a sequence of 32 noun words to be elaborated, and instructed either to generate sentences or to produce associates. In second task, the subjects were asked to remember pairs of words either incidentally (Exp. I) or intentionally (Exp. II). The first word of the pairs, referred to as the context word, was used later as a cue for cued recall, while the second word, as the target word, was to be recalled. Three different types of pairs were constructed: (i) C pairs, in which the context word was elaborated and the target word was not, (ii) T pairs, in which the target word was elaborated and the context word was not, and (iii) CT pairs, in which both words were elaborated. Subjects who generated sentences remembered the items better than subjects who produced associations. Both T and CT pairs were more recalled than C. pairs, while there was no difference in recall between T and CT pairs. The results suggest that the type of to-be-elaborated items is an important factor in elaborative process.
