A possibility whether an oral feeding of citrate, which has been reported to inhibit phosphofructokinase in vitro, following exercise to exhaustion could increase the rate of glycogen repletion in liver and soleus muscle was tested in treadmill running trained (experiments 1 and 2) and swimming trained rats (experiment 3). An exhaustive running or swimming was loaded at the end of the experiments, resulting in a significant reduction in liver and soleus muscle glycogen stores. The feeding of 1.0 and 0.5g of citrate per kg of body weight just after the exhaustive running could significantly increase the liver glycogen repletion during a 2-hr recovery period, but this was not observed in soleus muscle (experiment 1). As compared with a single feeding of 3.3g of glucose per kg of body weight, a mixed feeding of 0.5g of citrate and 3.0g of glucose after an exhaustive running (experiment 2) and swimming (experiment 3) could significantly enhance the repletion of glycogen stores in both liver and soleus muscle. These results clearly indicate that the postexercise feeding of citrate can stimulate the glycogen repletion in liver and skeletal muscle during an early period of recovery.

At the age of 35, the founder of Buddhism, the Buddha, attained His Enlightenment in Uruvela. This enlightenment is complete enlightenment as thought by many people. But according to Vinaya Mahavagga I, Buddha attained pathamabhisambuddha at first, then in the second stage he developed his enlightenment even more. After his first sermon, the Order consisted of 61 Arahants, and the Buddha further developed his spiritual development in the first rain retreat. He attained incomparable deliverance (anuttara-vimutti) through mindful concentration (manasikara).Enlightenment under the Bo-tree is to become free from Ignorance (avijja) through knowledge (vijja) which must be called emancipation through insight (pañña-vimutti). After the first sermon five ascetics, Yasa and his 54 friends, attained enlightenment through being set free from desire (tanha), which must be called emancipation through mind (citta-vimutti). Emancipation under the Bo-tree is the first stage of enlightenment, but emancipation through both sides (ubhato-vimutti) is a much higher and deeper enlightenment, which is regarded as anuttara-vimutti.

Interferon-induced transmembrane protein 3 (IFITM3) is associated with cancer development. Proto-oncogene c-myc can promote tumor proliferation. However, collections of IFITM3 and c-myc in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the potential role and mechanisms of IFITM3 in c-myc-mediated tumor proliferation remain unclear. In this study, we investigated a positive correlation between the expression of IFITM3 and c-myc in HCC. The down-regulation of IFITM3 significantly reduced c-myc expression and inhibited the proliferation of HCC in vitro and in vivo. In addition, upregulated c-myc expression restored the decrease in cell proliferation caused by the downregulation of IFITM3, while downregulation of c-myc reduced the proliferation of HCC enhanced by IFITM3. Mechanistically, IFITM3 regulates c-myc expression via the ERK1/2 signalling pathway. In conclusion, a novel path of IFITM3–ERK1/2–c-myc regulatory circuitry was identified, and its dysfunction may lead to HCC tumorigenesis.

In 2002, the Central Education Council published a report entitled “Improvement of children's physical fitness”. The report pointed out that changes in the social environment and lifestyles in recent years had influenced children's physical fitness and movement skills, and that a “comprehensive policy” addressing various aspects was essential for tackling this problem. On the basis of this report, the Ministry of Education and local boards of education are currently undertaking various projects; however, a number of gaps still remain between the findings of the report and what is actually being done to address this issue.   The present paper examines the local political issues that have led to differences between the practices of local educational governments and the recommendations of the report by focusing on practices in the Tokyo Metropolitan area and Osaka Prefecture after publication of the report.   This study revealed that the local governments had been strongly influenced by the results of physical fitness tests in comparison with other districts, counter to the comprehensive policy suggested by the report. This suggests that one of the reasons for the existing gap is the implicit demand for measurable results based on strong promotion of the evaluation system stipulated by the current educational policy. The results also show that most projects to improve children's physical fitness have been undertaken by schools, despite the fact that almost no budget has been allocated for this purpose, thus forcing schools to bear the burden and responsibility alone. Furthermore, it is also evident that competitive sports are frequently used to promote an active lifestyle, even in elementary and junior high schools.   In view of the numerous practices aiming to improve performance through sports club activities and competitive sports events, such as long-distance relays for children and Olympic education, it appears that the government in fact has a hidden agenda to promote sports and to improve athletic performance behind the façade of children's fitness as a “social issue”.

高血圧症患者の歯科治療は危険性が高い。それは, 高血圧症は血圧が高いと言うことだけでなく, 高いことによって継発した脳と心臓の病態変化が歯科治療によるストレスによって生理的状態から逸脱し, 生命に危険な状態を生じることがあるからである。罹患率が高く, 無症状で推移する例もあり, 初診時に歯科で血圧をルーチンに測定しない現状から, 問診で高血圧症であることが分らない場合には思わぬ事故に遭遇することがある。したがって, まず患者が高血圧症であることを知ることが大切であり, 臨床はそこから始まる。本稿ではすでに高血圧症であると診断されている患者の歯科治療にたいして, 歯科麻酔科ではどのような対応をしているのか, すなわちどのような循環管理をしているのか, その基本となる考え方と方法を述べた。

ファッション小売業を取り巻く環境は,注視すべき状況にある。グローバル化の波に乗って,世界の小売業が日本市場に進出して店舗展開を行っている。そのため,ファッション小売業者は競合店の脅威に対して注意を払いながら,常に消費者行動の変化に適応する必要に迫られている。消費者の購買動向を絶えず注視し,その動きに適合したマーケティング活動を展開することが重要な着眼点である。近年,マーケティング・プロモーションに代わって,マーケティング・コミュニケーションという言葉が多く使われるようになっている。店舗において商品を販売する際には,売り手と買い手との相互コミュニケーションは不可欠である。マーケティング・コミュニケーションの人的販売は,小売業が繁栄を続けていくために説得力がある要素であると考えられる。売場の販売員は,来店してくれた顧客に対して,時間をかけてじっくりとコミュニケーションを図り,納得して頂き,満足の行く接客をしなければならない。顧客がその商品を十分に納得し,そこから購入に至る行動は,コミュニケーションを通した反応プロセスである。その販売員の基本動作と顧客の購買心理を8つの段階に分け,各段階について解説を行った。人的販売は,ファッション小売業がマーケティング目標達成のために用いられる重要なプロモーション・メゾッドであるといえるだろう。本稿は,小売業における販売員と消費者がコミュニケーションを取りながら,消費者の購買意欲を高めるための販売・接客のプロモーション活動に対する調査・研究を試みたものである。

梶井基次郎の作品は、その独自の美意識が高く評価され、時にはボードレールと比較されたりしてきた。しかし、その美意識には一貫した規範が存在するというよりは、飛躍した主観性を帯びている。本論では、「檸檬」を表現主義映画「カリガリ博士」と重ね合わせて読むことを手始めに、画家のカンディンスキーを中心とした梶井を取り巻く芸術的な背景や梶井自身の表現意識を点検して、二〇世紀芸術の大きな流れである「表現主義」の方法との類縁性を探ってみた。
