An attempt was made to discover any statistical relation of earthquakes as premonitory phenomena to volcanic eruptions on the basis of reports of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. The results seem to be negative. However certain factors must be kept in mind. First, seismic activity was tabulated according to the method of weekly local seismicity, an unique method employed in Hawaii. Secondly, the data used were obtained from low-powered seismometers. Hence, the possibility of seismic activity serving as premonitory phenomena of eruptions is still not excluded. It is then inferred that for further investigations seismometers of higher magnifications are necessary and consonantly a better way of tabulating seismic activity must be devised. It has also been found that there is a definite statistical relation between the frequency of earthquakes and their strength.

情報プライバシーは,インターネット(以下,ネット)上での不特定多数の他者への自己情報公開と負の関連がみられることが報告されている。本研究では,ネット上での未知の他者への自己情報公開を測定し,情報プライバシーと自己情報公開との関連を,対面の予期を操作して検討した。大学生に対し,ネット上で未知の大学生とチャットをするように告げた。対面の予期あり条件の実験参加者には,チャットをする相手と後日会ってもらう予定であると伝えた。一方,なし条件の実験参加者には,そのように伝えなかった。チャットをする前に,実験参加者に,相手に示すプロフィールを作成するように求めた。その結果,なし条件では,識別情報へのプライバシーが低い者ほど,プロフィール上で自己に関する事柄を多く表出していた。一方,あり条件では,情報プライバシーとプロフィール上の自己情報公開には関連はみられず,コミュニケーション動機が高い者ほど,プロフィール上の情報入力数が多く,また,プロフィール上で自己に関する事柄を多く表出していた。

Friendship Contingent Self-esteem as a Predictor of Satisfaction in Junior High School Students: Focusing on Social Achievement Goals and Friendship.The purpose of this paper was to examine a process model in which friendship contingent self-esteem was related to satisfaction through social achievement goals and friendship in junior high school students. Junior high school students (n=772) completed the questionnaire. A path analysis revealed that friendship contingent self-esteem was related to satisfaction through social achievement goals and friendship. The results suggest that friendship contingent self-esteem had positive and negative effects on the satisfaction process.

本研究の目的は恋愛関係における自分磨き(self-improvement)に対する相互影響性を検討することである。アタッチメント理論に依拠して,恋愛関係にある参加者に対して,アタッチメントとケアギビングの傾向を測定し,Actor Partner Interdependence Model (APIM)の枠組みで分析を行った。結果より,アタッチメント回避が自身の自分磨きの成果に与える影響に加え,アタッチメントとケアギビングが相手の自分磨きの成果に与える影響がいくつか示された。さらに,女性の自分磨きの成果に対しては,女性のアタッチメント回避と男性のケアギビング過活性の交互作用効果も示された。したがって,恋愛関係においては,自分磨きの成果は男女のアタッチメントとケアギビングの相互的な影響によって規定されると考えられる。

Annual changes in the development of multi-dimensional empathy in junior high school students were examined through assessments conducted at three time points. The longitudinal data were analyzed using estimates of missing data, and a repeated measures design test using the Full Information Maximum Likelihood method. Differences in mean values at the three time points and correlations among the assessment points were examined. Results indicated that Personal Distress and Empathic Concern were the highest in the first grade, followed by that in the third and second grades, respectively. Perspective-Taking was the highest in the third grade, followed by that in the second and first grades, respectively. Fantasy decreased in the second grade as compared to that in the first grade, and it increased in the third grade as compared to that in the first grade. It is concluded that the developmental trajectory of multi-dimensional empathy in early adolescence differs for the different aspects of empathy.

This study was done to discover the underlying mechanism of the inhibitory effect of sericin against colon tumorigenesis. Mice were fed a diet with 30 g/kg sericin for 115 d, and given a weekly injection of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (10 mg/kg body weight) for the initial 10 wk. Dietary supplemental sericin caused a 62% reduction in the incidence of colonic adenoma (P<0.05), but did not affect the incidence of colonic adenocarcinoma. Sericin intake significantly reduced the number of colon adenomas. Consumption of sericin significantly reduced the BrdU labeling index of colonic proliferating cells and the expression of colonic c-myc and c-fos. The levels of colonic 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, 4-hydroxynonenal, and inducible nitric oxide synthase protein were significantly suppressed by sericin. The results suggest that dietary sericin suppresses the development of colon tumors by reducing oxidative stress, cell proliferation, and nitric oxide production.

DNAによる性判別法のミヤマオウムへの利用を目的として、鳥類の性染色体上に存在するCHD(chromo-helicase-DNA binding protein)遺伝子を標的とする2種類のプライマーセットについて検討した。その結果、ミヤマオウムでは、2種類のプライマーセットでDNAの増幅が認められた。しかし、オウム、インコ類においで性判別の報告があるプライマーAの雌雄間で認められる型が異なることから判別ができなかった。一方、ワシ、タカ類のCHD-Wの配列を基に設計されたプライマーBを用いた方法では、ミヤマオウムのW染色体由来の増幅産物のみが検出されることから性判別が可能となった。また、対照として用いたヨウムは、2種類のプライマーセットで性判別が可能であったことから、プライマーBは、他の鳥種でも性判別のできる可能性が示唆された。

2002年11月7日、UFJつばさ証券は、顧客情報が流出したとして、警視庁丸の内警察署に被害届を出し、捜査を依頼した。これを12日付の全国紙が報じ、宗近博邦社長は同日開いたアナリスト向け説明会で陳謝した。 同社が顧客情報の流出に気づいた時期は、1年以上前の2001年10月。きっかけは、「つばさ証券の名簿を基に、他社が勧誘に来た」とのクレームが顧客から寄せられたことだ。

During the summer of 1975, effects of photochemical oxidants and other factors on health of schoolchildren and students were investigated in Saitama Prefecture, northern suburbs of Tokyo metropolitan area. The levels of each air pollutant and meteorological foctor were divided to 4, 5, 6 or 8 ranks and ratios of ones who had acute complaints to person days were compared with each other.<BR>Oxidant concentration most closely related to the ratio. The incidences stepwise increased from 0.02% to 0.3%, 3% in accordance with the elevation of oxidants levels (-0.07 ppm, 0.12-0.19 ppm, 0.20 ppm-). The levels of SO<SUB>2</SUB>, NO<SUB>2</SUB>, SPM and visibility related to the incidences to some extent. When SO<SUB>2</SUB>, NO<SUB>2</SUB> and SPM levels exceeded 0.07 ppm, 0.10 ppm and 0.2 mg/m<SUP>3</SUP> respectively and visibility lowered 3 km in this region, the incidences clearly increased. High temperature and discomfort index, however, were not always connected with high incidences. In addition, the weather of days when high incidences were found was slightly cloudy, and in rainy or clear days such results were not at all seen.

組合せ最適化問題を省電力かつ高速に解くため,イジングモデルの基底状態探索問題に変換して回路動作で解探索するイジング計算機が提案されている.半導体回路で空間的に効率良く表現可能なイジングモデルは規則的な構造であり,任意の最適化問題を解くためには基底状態を保持しつつモデルを変換する必要がある.本報告では Contractive graph minor-embedding を提案する.提案手法により対角線付き格子グラフに対してスピン数 100 のイジングモデルを 1 秒以内に変換する見込みを得た.

β-L-Arabinopyranosidases are classified into the glycoside hydrolase family 27 (GH27) and GH97, but not into GH36. In this study, we first characterized the GH36 β-L-arabinopyranosidase BAD_1528 from Bifidobacterium adolescentis JCM1275. The recombinant BAD_1528 expressed in Escherichia coli had a hydrolytic activity toward p-nitrophenyl (pNP)-β-L-arabinopyranoside (Arap) and a weak activity toward pNP-α-D-galactopyranoside (Gal). The enzyme liberated L-arabinose efficiently not from any oligosaccharides or polysaccharides containing Arap-β1,3-linkages, but from the disaccharide Arap-β1,3-L-arabinose. However, we were unable to confirm the in vitro fermentability of Arap-β1,3-Ara in B. adolescentis strains. The enzyme also had a transglycosylation activity toward 1-alkanols and saccharides as acceptors.
