In contrast to Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, Elizabeth Gaskell's heroine is recognized as obedient to the Victorian ideological figure, the "angel in the house." This is a strategy of Gaskell to hold her authorship in the mid-Victorian male-centered literary world, for male editors claimed that female writers should write "feminine" stories. Gaskell ostensibly obeyed their claim and wrote stories about angelic heroines ; however, she secretly contrived to undermine the patriarchal foundation that binds the heroines. In Cousin Phillls (1863), the heroine Phillis aspires to maturity that allows her to grow to womanhood, but her message is ingeniously hidden behind the veil of male narrative. The narrator Paul believes that Phillis' broken heart is no less tragic than loss of "innocence" - the innocence of Eden. Making this ironical use of Paul's view, Gaskell suggests that the image of the "angel in the house" is made up by the Victorian male self-deception.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a 40-minute race on muscle activity and spatiotemporal cycle variables at four-time points during a 12-km roller skiing test using the double-poling technique. [Subjects and Methods] Five elite cross-country (XC) skiers on the Korean National reserve team participated in the study. Part of a biathlon course that consisted of both flat land and slopes was selected, and three measurements were recorded after every 4-km lap. Spatiotemporal variables, mean frequency and mean amplitude of 6 muscles were the chosen computational parameters. [Results] Significant differences were observed in cycle time and rate. The mean frequency of the upper-body muscles exhibited declining trends, with statistically significant differences for the triceps brachii. In addition, there were significant differences in the mean amplitude of the tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius. The activity of the triceps brachii, tibialis anterior, and gastrocnemius showed some degree of dependence on the technique. [Conclusion] Training and race strategies that improve the function of elbow extensors and ankle dorsiflexors are important in XC skiing; the application of roller-ski training research to actual XC skiing competitions is needed.

原料サツマイモの成分と芋焼酎の特徴香成分の関連性を検討し、以下のような知見を得た。1.原料サツマイモのデンプン価は、南九州でもっとも多く栽培されているコガネセンガンの27.9に対し、ダイチノユメ、ジョイホワイト、アケムラサキは30を超え、高デンプンの性質を持っていた。しかし、橙系のデンプン価は最大でも22.4と総じて低いものであった。2.サツマイモのβ-カロテン含量と製品のβ-イオノン濃度には、高い正の相関があり良好な直線関係が認められた。しかし、β-カロテン含量と製品のβ-ダマセノン濃度には明確な関係を確認できなかった。3.サツマイモのアントシアニン含量と製品のジアセチル濃度には、高い正の相関があり、良好な直線関係を確認できた。4.リナロールを特徴香成分としさわやかな柑橘香を持つ製品が得られるジョイホワイト以外のサツマイモとして、ダイチノユメを見出すことができた。5.ハマコマチ製品は、今回試醸した製品の中でβ-ダマセノン、リナロールおよびβ-イオノンなどの特徴香成分の濃度が最も高く、また官能評価においても、従来の芋焼酎にない魅力的な香気を持つ製品であることがわかった。

沿岸域や浅水域では過去に大地震に伴う数百から数千m2以上の大規模な崩壊や地すべりが発生している.これは水で飽和した地質が大地震により液状化したり破壊されたりすることにより強度を失うことで発生するものと考えられる.しかし,近年の大地震により大規模に沿岸域が崩壊・喪失した事例や,その痕跡として浅水域に地すべり地形が確認されたものは,液状化の発生事例数やその範囲に比べると明らかに小さい.沿岸域や浅水域における大規模崩壊や地すべりの発生には,加えてさらに特異な条件が必要であることが示唆される.沿岸域には人口が集中し,もし沿岸―浅海域における大規模崩壊の条件を理解することができれば,特に地震時の危険性に注意を払うべき場所が明確になるだろう.本講演でとりあげる福島県・猪苗代湖では,その沿岸に地すべりの地形であることを示す馬蹄形滑落崖と,それから伸びた舌状地形が複数認められる.この状況の存在は猪苗代湖が前述のような大規模崩壊を発生させやすい特異な条件を備えていることを強く示唆し,それを地質学的かつ地盤工学的に詳しく検討すれば,前述した地すべりの発生条件の解明に繋がるものと思われる.筆者らは,2015年と2016年の2カ年に渡って3.5 kHzサブボトムプロファイラによる音響地質構造探査を,のべ120 kmに渡って猪苗代湖全域を網羅するように実施した.この音響地質構造データと,2012年に福島大学が猪苗代湖湖心部で湖成堆積物を貫通するように採取した約28m長のコア(INW2012コア)との対比を行った.その結果,湖底における斜面の安定性と地すべりについて特に得られた知見を以下に3つ列挙する.1)猪苗代湖の湖心より南部の水域において湖形成以降の湖底堆積物の全体の音響地質断面画像が得られた.同水域の底質は全域に渡って一貫した成層構造であり,層内に水平に連続して認められた強反射層の一部はINW2012コアに認められた広域テフラ層準と一致していた.また,湖底堆積物底面には湖形成以前の砂礫層と位置する反射が認められた.この湖心から南部の水域では湖成層が安定的に堆積してきたものと思われる.一方で湖の北部では湖底最表層での音響の減衰が大きいため下方の構造を認識できなかった.おそらく,北部では磐梯山の火山活動及び長瀬川の流入による砂礫成分の流入が活発であるため最表層での音波の反射と減衰が大きいと思われる.従って北部に認められる大規模な地すべり地形は粗粒の堆積物の下位に存在すると思われる.2)得られた音響地質断面画像では,ほぼ全てに渡って,無構造な堆積物であることを示す音響的透明相が頻繁に認められた.これらは猪苗代湖の湖成層内では,流体またはガスの噴出がこれまでに複数繰り返されてきたことを示唆し,湖成層がこれまでに複数の地震の影響を受けてきたことを示すと考えられる.特にその密度は湖心部で約13 m下から湖成層底部までの区間で高い.この深度は浅間火山起源のAs-Kテフラ層準(18, 100年前;廣瀬ほか2014)より1 m下である.この深度は約2万年前に相当し,この時期に猪苗代湖の周辺で大地震が発生した可能性がある.3)猪苗代湖南部を起源とする長さ2.8 km,最大厚さ約25 mの大規模な湖底地すべりを示す地質構造が発見された.この地すべりは前述のAs-Kの約1 m下に存在し,この湖底地すべりの主たる運動は,塊状移動体の滑動によるものである.地すべりは0.8度の傾斜を持つすべり面で発生し,下方末端には約1 kmに渡って複数のスラストと褶曲を伴って衝突変形している様子が観察できた.この地すべりは音響探査により地層の変形構造とすべり面が追跡できた貴重な例であり,今後,この地すべり体を直接掘削し,その地質と構造および材料的な地震に対する反応性の面から分析すれば,沿岸域や浅海域で崩壊・地すべりが発生する条件の解明に迫れるものと思われる.<文献>廣瀬孝太郎・長橋良隆・中澤なおみ(2014)福島県猪苗代湖の湖底堆積物コア(INW2012)の岩相層序と年代.第四紀研究,日本第四紀学会,157-173.

歴史地震の研究において,ある地震の有無(実在・非実在)や発生日時の認定は,もっとも基本的な作業といえる.しかしながら,文書の作成時から現代にいたる伝来(特に書写)の過程や,現代における解読や解釈などの各場面において,日時の取り違えが発生しうる.ここでは,規模が比較的小さい地震もふくめ,日時の取り違えのある地震を取りあげ,修正案を提示する.日時の取り違えは,次のような場合に発生すると考えられる.(1)史料そのものが違っている場合,(2)自治体史などの編集時に間違えた場合,(3)史料集の編集時に間違えた場合.(1)の史料そのものが違っている場合に該当するのは,天保二年の会津の地震である.これについては,史料が1点だけの場合,間違いの可能性に気づくことは困難である.史料の記述そのものに矛盾がないかを丁寧に検討することにより,あるいは,同じ日に複数の史料があれば,相互に矛盾がないかを検討することにより,間違いをみつけることができる可能性がある.(2)の自治体史などの編集時に間違えた場合に該当するのは,飛越地震の際の『天保一五年(弘化元年)御林山内取調箇所附帳』の扱いである.これは(1)と同様に記事そのものから間違いに気づくことは難しい.しかしながら,原史料にもどって検討できれば,記述を訂正することができ,それにより地震についての正しい情報を得られる可能性がある.(3)の史料集の編集時に間違えた場合には,宝永地震についての『南牟婁郡誌』の記事,享保の『月堂見聞集』の京都の地震,享和の畿内・名古屋の地震,文政の中部・近畿の地震,天保の佐賀の地震,善光寺地震の際の越後高田の記事が該当する.日記の省略部分を補う際に生じた年月日の取り違えが多い.本文はきちんと解読できており,場合によっては,史料集の他の部分に同文で収録されているにもかかわらず.編集の際に,いわば勘違いにより別の日付のところに入ってしまったものもあると考えられる.日付に関しては,干支でかかれることも多く,年月日との対応を確認することで間違いを防ぐことができるだろう.年月日の取り違えによって,単に発生年月日が間違って認定されるだけでなく,場合によっては実在する地震が複製されて,実在しない地震として認定されてしまうことがある.『月堂見聞集』に書かれた複数の地震や1847年2月15日の越後高田の被害のような例である.これらの間違いを放置すると,地震活動度を過大評価してしまう可能性がある.特に,無被害の中小地震もふくめた有感地震の活動度を検討するような場合,結果に大きく影響する可能性がある.

近年,スポーツ界では公平な判定や試合分析のために,動画像が用いる競技も増加してきている.しかし,武道競技の自動判定システムは開発されておらず,審判の主観や死角での予測的な判定などにより誤判定が発生してしまう.本研究では,武道の中でも「空手」に注目し,競技者の攻撃が有効打であるかを,動画像処理により自動検出を行うことを目的とする.そこで,防具を着用した競技者に有効打となりうる基本的な動作を行ってもらい,その様子をビデオカメラで撮影し有効打の検出処理を行う.その結果,基本動作による有効打の検出を行うことができた.これにより,空手競技における主観性を除いた検出を行うことができることが示唆された.

Estimation of cloud properties such as the cloud optical thickness and effective droplet radius is usually based on the independent pixel approximation (IPA) assuming a plane-parallel, homogeneous cloud for each pixel of a satellite image. Prior studies have pointed out that horizontal and vertical inhomogeneities produce significant errors in the retrieved cloud properties. The observed reflectance at each pixel is influenced by the spatial arrangement of cloud water in adjacent pixels, which necessitates the consideration of the adjacent cloud effects when estimating the cloud properties at a target pixel. We study the feasibility of a multi-spectral, multi-pixel approach to estimate the cloud optical thickness and effective droplet radius using a deep neural network (DNN), which is a kind of machine-learning technique and has capabilities of multi-variable estimation, automatic characterization of data, and non-linear approximation. A Monte Carlo three-dimensional radiative transfer model is used to simulate the reflectances with a resolution of 280 m for large eddy simulation cloud fields in cases of boundary layer clouds. Two retrieval methods are constructed: 1) DNN-2r that correct IPA retrievals using the reflectances (from 3D simulations) at 0.86 and 2.13 µm and 2) DNN-4w that uses the so-called convolution layer and directly retrieve cloud properties from the reflectances at 0.86, 1.64, 2.13 and 3.75 µm. Both DNNs efficiently derive the spatial distribution of cloud properties at about 6×6 pixels all at once from reflectances at multiple pixels. Both DNNs outperform the IPA-based retrieval in estimating cloud optical thickness and effective droplet radius more accurately. The DNN-4w can robustly estimate cloud properties even for optically thick clouds, and the use of a convolution layer in the DNN seems adequate to represent three-dimensional radiative transfer effects.

Cancer occuring in the dorsum of the tongue is very rare. Several reports indicate that the rate of cancer occurrence in the dorsal tongue ranges from 2.8% to 7.2 % of all tongue cancer.<BR>In our clinic, there has been only one case of dorsal tongue cancer among 89 cases of tongue cancer from 1979 to 1992.<BR>The patient was a 68-year-old male who visited our clinic with a chief complaint of a tumor mass in the left dorsum of the tongue in November 1983.<BR>The tumor was a round, circumscribed, raised, and centrally depressed mass with a red surface. It was 15 mm in diameter and elastic but firm in consistency.<BR>Macroscopically, the tumor was doughnut-shaped.<BR>Pathologically, the tumor was diagnosed to be a squamous cell carcinoma.<BR>He was treated by intraoral electron therapy, one time (10 Gy) per week. The total dose amounted to 40 Gy. Clinically and pathologically, the tumor disappeared at that time.<BR>Nine years after intraoral electron therapy, he is still alive without primary recurrence or distant metastasis.

Now, there are coexisted in KENDO which to develop of the championship in sports and the elements of the martial arts. And KENDO has the elements of performance as Japanese traditional exercise culture. The purpose of this study was to deepen the consideration about performance of KENDO from some examples. The results were summarized as follows; 1) In KENDO, "BU" as art of casualties lost the utility. The operation method was different from the bamboo sword with the sword greatly. "BU" as art of casualties was developed in the idea. 2) "BU" as accomplishments became the problem of the core of KENDO. In particular the element of accomplishments was been conscious of more powerfully by evaluating contents of ascetic practices in the KENDO promotion examination system. Motivation of the exercisers rose with the system, and it was led to the stage that matured furthermore by continuing to old and middle age. 3) Development of "BU" as sports could consider a lot of examples as the mental substantiality in the match of KENDO. Through the lessons, It was get the hold of the innocent skill.

<p>形状や寸法の工夫で危険源に人が触れないようにすることは,機械のリスク低減としてきわめて本質的である。この際,適切な寸法を与えるのがISO 13857 である。また,ISO 13857 は,安全防護の正当性を計る基準でもあり,ガードの上を越えたり開口部から手を通したりしても危険区域への到達を阻止するのに必要なガードの大きさと設置位置を示す。ただし,ここで規定された数値は欧州各国で得られた人体計測値をおもな根拠にしており,欧米人と明らかに体格が異なるわが国の労働者にとって必ずしも適切とはいえなかった。本稿では,このISO 13857 の概要を述べるとともに,本規格の規定値を日本人に適用することの妥当性を検証した測定結果について紹介する。</p>
