Faulkner's familiarity with the philosophy of Henri Bergson has been pointed out already by some critics. On the other hand, I have presented evidence to demonstrate the influence of the theology of Jeremy Taylor, a seventeenth century theologian, on Faulkner repeatedly in my previous paper. The aim of this paper is a modest attempt to interpret how the influence of Bergson and that of Jeremy Taylor are united in Faulkner's view of the world through the character of Hightower in Light in August. When we interpret the character Hightower in Light in August using Bergsonian concepts, we may understand Hightower's awakening from "dead life" into a sort of life by way of intuition when he sympathizes with Mrs. Hines, who is distressed by the destiny of her grandson, Joe Christmas. On the other hand the interpretation of Light in August in reference to Jeremy Taylor, explains Hightower's turning to the light of God by facing his sense of sin directly. If we find correspondence in the relevance of Bergson's elan vital and Taylor's concept of omnipresence of God's love which radiates at any moment, both interpretations make an organic whole of Faulkner's world where the key to life lies in love in order to join in the great reality of God, in Bergsonian words in duration by way of intuition, "intellectual sympathy." This conclusion completely matches Faulkner's own belief that man seeks love to be one with some universal force.

本稿の目的は, 雇用流動化が家族-企業間関係にいかなる変容をもたらしているのかを検討することにある。バブル経済の崩壊後の雇用流動化が日本的慣行を揺るがしているとすれば, この日本的雇用慣行を媒介としてとり結ばれた家族と企業社会の安定的で密な関係に変化を生じさせていることになる。だが統計データを解読すると, 雇用流動化の担い手は若年層, 女性層, 男性高齢層である。男性中年期・壮年期層に影響をもたらすとみなされてきた「成果主義」の導入も, 喧伝されたほどの変化をもたらしておらず, この層の雇用の安定性は保たれている。また個別企業の人事戦略をみても主として女性の正社員数が絞りこまれ, 若年層と女性の非正規化, そして非正規内部の多層化が推進されてきている。以上から見るならば, 2005年時点でも家族-企業間関係は大きく揺らいではおらず, 中核層と周辺層の隔離と後者の分断化が進行しているといわなければならない。

The Asama volcano (elevation 2568m), central Japan, erupted on September 1, 2004. Since then thick volcanic fumes prevented monitoring of the topography on the summit crater floor by standard optical methods. To detect geomorphic changes of the volcano, Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (AirSAR) measurements including interferometry were repeatedly carried out on September 16, October 22, December 15, 2004 and March 10, 2005. The comparison of AirSAR result in September with a digital elevation model (DEM) by laser profiling measurements in October 2003 revealed that a pancake shape lava mound (volume=0.9×10^6m^3) was formed on the floor. The subsequent AirSAR measurement on October 22 indicated that the pancake shape mound had disappeared and a small pit hole was formed. The volume of ejecta amounted to 2.1×10^6m^3. The AirSAR results in December 2004 and March 2005 suggested that the shape of the crater floor stayed generally unchanged during that time window. From these, we infer that lava extrusion during the 2004 Asama eruption occurred within a short period around September and October.

Catheter ablation of persistent/long-persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) has been shown to be less effective by pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and additional left atrial (LA) complex fractionated atrial electrograms and long linear lesions are often required. Recent reports have demonstrated right atrial (RA) ablation increases the success rate of maintaining sinus rhythm in persistent/long-persistent AF. The aim of this study was to investigate whether effective RA linear lesions can terminate AF and render it noninducible in a canine model of rapid atrial pacing-induced sustained AF. Sustained AF was induced by rapid atrial pacing in 20 dogs. AF duration was 21-126 days (median, 50 days). Four RA linear lesions (superior vena cava-inferior vena cava, septal line, transverse line, and cavo-tricuspid line) were created with the use of 1 of 3 different ablation catheters (large-tip [8-mm tip], coil-tip, and cooled-tip catheters). AF was terminated with the large-tip catheter in 4/7 dogs (1 dog died of ventricular fibrillation [VF]), with the coil-tip catheter in 3/7 dogs (1 dog died of VF), and with the cooled-tip catheter in 1/6 dogs. In 6 dogs in which AF could not be terminated acutely by RA ablation, AF terminated spontaneously at 7-78 days (median, 14 days) after ablation. RA linear ablation terminated AF with limited success in our dog model of rapid atrial pacing-induced AF, but late AF termination was noted in the surviving dogs. Therefore, RA linear lesions in addition to the PVI and LA lesions may have additional effects on the catheter ablation for the persistent AF.

「おぼろづき」は、「空育150号」(後のあきほ)/「北海287号」の交雑後代から育成された品種であり、2003年に水稲農林398号として命名登録され、併せて2006年に種苗法に基づく品種登録がなされた。また2005年に北海道の奨励品種に採用された。「おぼろづき」の特性は、主要品種の「ほしのゆめ」と比較して以下の通りである。1. 出穂期・成熟期はほぼ同程度の中生の早に属する。2. 稈長はやや短く、穂長はやや長く、穂数は少なく、穂数型の草型である。耐倒伏性はやや強で、やや優る。3. 収量性はやや低い。千粒重は同等で、粒厚も同等である。4. 障害型耐冷性は同ランクの強である。いもち病抵抗性は、葉いもちはやや弱、穂いもちは中で、ともやや優る。5. 玄米品質は同等の中上であり、検査等級は同等かやや優る。6. 白米のアミロース含有率は5%程度低く14%程度であり、「あやひめ」より4%程度高い。含有率の年次変動はやや大きいが、「あやひめ」より小さい。7. タンパク質含有率はやや高い。8. 食味は粘り、柔らかさ、つやが優り、食味総合値は優る。「あやひめ」と比べると、粘り、柔らかさは小さい。以上の特性から、極良食味米品種として、上川(士別以南)、留萌(中南部)、空知、石狩、後志、日高、胆振および檜山各支庁管内の稲作地帯に適応する。

気体の圧力の下限は零であるが, 液体ではその圧力は負となりうる. 液体分子が分子間力の及ぶ距離で運動しており, 分子間相互作用ポテンシャルに引力部分があるからである. 負圧下の液体は熱力学的には準安定で容易に気相を核生成するため, その'引っ張り強さ'以外の物性はこれまで殆ど測定されていない. そこで, 熱力学的な負圧発生法であるBerthelot法を使って高負圧発生技術の可能性を調べた. 容器壁との界面でおきる気相の核生成確率を低下させるよう, 予め脱ガスしておいた金属容器に抜気した液体を密封し, 多数回温度サイクルを施すことにより, 水および有機物について-20MPaを発生させた. 気相の核生成理論から予測されるそれぞれの引っ張り強さの約1/7および1/2を越す負圧である. 容器表面の微細な孔状欠陥に保持されていたガスが負圧により液中に抜き出されるとき気相の核生成が起きるが, これらの表面欠陥への容器材内部からの不純物ガス供給率がこのレベルの負圧を制限していることが解ってきた. さらに高負圧が液体に発生維持できれば, これまで見逃されてきた極端環境となりうる.

地磁気嵐とその発生起源である太陽現象をペアとして捉える太陽・地球電磁関係物理学の手法に従い,従来のフレア型急始(Sc)嵐,コロナホール型緩始(Sg)嵐,フィラメント消失型Sc嵐のほかに,本研究では新たに次のような赤道横断磁気ループ型Sc嵐が見出された. 太陽の赤道を跨ぐ大きな磁気ループ(Transequatorial loop:TELと略称)が急激に膨張,爆発して,大規模なコロナ質量放出(CME)を発生させる事実は半世紀以上前から観測され,太陽のふち(limb)現象として,太陽物理学分野で大きく注目されてきた.このTEL型爆発は太陽のふち(limb)で頻繁に観測されるからには,太陽正面でも発生するはずであると推定して調べたところ,ディスク中心付近でかすかな線条構造が認められてから数日後に,地球で磁気嵐が発生していることが見出された.この線条付近ではフレアもフィラメントもコロナホールも認められなかったことから,これは新しいTEL型Sc嵐であると認定した.このようなTELは南北両半球にある黒点群または黒点消滅後の残留磁域とつながっているので,磁気ループの軸磁場の方向が求められる.この軸磁場は惑星間磁場(IMF)の強いBz成分を生むので,その地磁気嵐構成への影響について調べた.TEL型Sc嵐については,将来様々な興味深い研究成果が期待されるが,現時点で考えられる様々な課題についての提言がなされた.
