The aim of this paper is to study the materiality of media through the experiential analysis of the history of model kits in Japan. The authors focus on the following questions: "What is materiality of media?" and "How are materiality and intermediacy related to each other?" Answering these questions requires hypothesis development for theoretical considerations based on experiential analysis of a specific medium that has materiality as its essential element. In this study, the authors examine the history of model kits in Japan. This paper analyzes the history of model kits in Japan from the 1900s through the 1960s by using a variety of materials, which include miniature model products, miniature model magazines, statistical data and yearbooks of related companies. The authors' findings show that different media were created in different periods: scientific miniature models that mediated the future before World War II; armament models that mediated the present during World War II; and scale models during the post-war period of rapid economic growth. At the same time, the creation of these media was inextricably connected with materials, such as wood, metals, substitute materials, and plastic. However, these materials and models were originally not separate entities but represented different aspects of a single medium. In other words, scientific models were the same medium as models made of wood and metals; armament models were inseparable from substitute materials; and scale models were the same as plastic models. As these examples show, analyzing the creation of media, including actors (materials), leads us to reconsider the deterministic understanding of the essence of a medium. These considerations led to the following conclusion regarding the materiality of media: Specific materials are used to form a specific medium and the resulting materiality creates dynamic changes in the intermediacy of the medium. Inversely, a medium appears to have diachronic identity due to the inextricable connection between the materiality and intermediacy of the medium, which causes its different elements to form a specific area as a group despite the variability of individual elements.

The respiratory virus infection COVID-19 caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV2 has been reported in China since December 2019. It has been reported that COVID-19 tends to be more severe in the elderly and in patients with underlying diseases including diabetes, heart disease, and chronic lung disease. In severe cases, patients require intensive cares including mechanical ventilation in the ICUs. So far, no biomarker that predicts the severity, or no therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of severe diseases has been established. Pathology of severe COVID-19 has two aspects: viral overgrowth and excess pulmonary inflammation. For the former, clinical trials using existing drugs such as remdesivir (nucleic acid drug), lopinavir/ritonavir combination drug (protease inhibitor), favipravir (polymerase inhibitor), and interferon (antiviral drugs) are being conducted in patients with severe COVID-19 in China. Furthermore the interest has been focused on immune globulin preparations enriched with pathogen-specific antibodies collected from the plasma of recovered patients. For the latter, clinical studies using tocilizumab (IL-6 receptor antibody) and ACE2 protein have been conducted with the purpose of reducing excessive inflammation of the lung. In addition, single cell analysis of immune cells and comprehensive repertoire analysis of TCR/BCR using patient blood are in progress overseas, which are useful to elucidate the mechanism of the severe disease progression and identify the useful biomarkers for it.

本研究では,小学校教員免許取得志望学生である大学生を対象として,小学校,中学校,高等学校での,算数・数学への好き・嫌い,算数・数学の成績の良い・悪いについての意識とその理由を問い,回答の状況を調べることを目的とした。算数・数学の好き嫌いと成績について,好き-良い,嫌い-悪いが統計的にも有意に多かった。人数的には少ないが,嫌い-良いや好き-悪いと回答した人の理由には,算数・数学教育実践上留意すべき点が含められていた。

As an additional product of the Japanese 55-year Reanalysis (JRA-55) project, a new global atmospheric reanalysis product, named JRA-55CHS, is under construction. It utilizes quarter-degree sea-surface temperature (SST) as lower-boundary condition with the same data assimilation system as the JRA-55 Conventional (JRA-55C), into which no satellite data is assimilated. The SST data can resolve steep SST gradients along the western boundary currents (WBCs), which are not necessarily well represented in many of the other atmospheric reanalysis products, including the JRA-55C. The present paper briefly documents basic performance of the JRA-55CHS, through comparing it with the JRA-55C and satellite observations in focusing on the major WBC regions. In the JRA-55CHS, mesoscale atmospheric structures along the WBCs are well reproduced in their climatological-mean fields as captured in the satellite observations. Their interannual- to decadal-scale variations associated with SST variations are also reasonably reproduced. The corresponding atmospheric features are less obvious in the JRA-55C owing to smoother SST prescribed. Furthermore, comparison between the two reanalysis products reveals that the influence of frontal-scale SST distributions can reach into the middle and upper troposphere, especially in summer. The JRA-55CHS will be useful for deepening our understanding of the nature of midlatitude frontal-scale air-sea interactions.

Glaciers in High Mountain Asia are valuable indicator of climate change, and their meltwater have an important role for the regional water resources (e.g. Pritchard, 2019). We thus need to estimate Himalayan glacier fluctuation. However, the lower part of large Himalayan glaciers is generally covered with debris mantle, which makes the melting process complicated. Several previous works pointed out a role of ice cliffs that promote local enhancement of the ice melting (e.g. Sakai et al., 1998; Brun et al., 2018). The ice cliff’s spatio-temporal distribution and their dynamics (evolution and decay) are important to understand debris-covered glaciers melting process.In this study, we generated high resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) and orthomosaic images from aerial photographs taken at four different times at the Trakarding glacier, Nepal Himalaya in order to trace ice cliff dynamics.In-situ observations and aerial photogrammetry surveys were carried out in 2007, 2017, 2018, 2019 post-monsoon seasons over the entire debris-covered area. These photographs were analyzed using Structure from Motion technology and created high resolution (0.2 - 2.0 m) terrain data. From each image, about 500 ice cliffs were extracted and analyzed these ridge lengths, slope areas, gradients, aspects and spatial distributions.DEM differencing indicate that the surface mass balance has been strongly negative (-1.65 m w.e. yr-1) from 2007 to 2019. Spatially, we observed that the more significant surface lowering happens, the higher cliff density is remarked. The result suggests the ice cliff locally enhances glacier melting. In addition, a significant correlation between ice cliff length and its slope area was observed, which means that it is possible to estimate the slope area of cliff from the cliff length using coarser satellite data. Analysis of ice cliff aspect elucidated that north-west facing ice cliffs are predominant. And their aspects had heterogeneous distribution. Finally, we estimated ice cliff dynamics and its mechanism from the results of spatial cliff density, aspect and elevation change analysis in Trakarding Glacier.

Among the 109 species of gobiids listed at the end, the supratemporals were found in six species: five out of sixteen species in Group 1 and one species in Group 3 (Table 1).No supratemporal was found in Group 2 and Group 4 (for the characteristics of the four groups, see Prince Akihito, 1969). These bones were found between the sensory canal groove of the pterotic and the post-temporal (Fig.1).These species had a continuous sensory canal from the anterior tip of the head to the area of the supratemporals and the supratemporal canal.The supratemporals consisted of three pieces, anterior, median, and posterior, which I named without particular consideration for the homology of Tominaga's (1968: 59) anterior and posterior supratemporals on the Pempheridae.They were all separated in three species, Oxyeleotris marmorata (Figs.1.A and 2.A), Bostrichthys sinensis (Fig.2.C), and Ophiocara porocephala (Fig.2.D), and each piece usually had one nerve foramen.In two species of the genus Butis, B.butis (Fig.2.E, F) and B. gymnopoma (Fig.2.G), the median and posterior supratemporals were fused. In Xenisthmus clarus (Figs.1.B and 2.H) the anterior and median supratemporals were fused.The fused bone had two nerve foramina.Wide individual variations were observed in the shape, including loss of a bone (Fig.2.B), separation of a fused bone, loss of a nerve foramen, or an additional foramen on the upper lateral side.The presence or absence of supratemporals was dependent on the presence or absence of the sensory canal on that part, except in the cases of Bathygobius petrophilus and Syciopterus japonicus (both belonging to Group 4) which had a continuous sensory canal but no supratemporal canal. Although the presence or absence of sensory canals was sometimes inconsistent, it seems that the systematic value of the supratemporal is signifcant, considering that the most unspecialized Oxyeleotris marmorata and Bostrichthys sinensis (which are the only species having a suborbital) have the most complete sensory canal systems with three supratemporals.

本研究は,中心市街地活性化基本計画を策定した奈良市を事例として,大型店開発のための都市計画決定と大規模小売店舗立地法に基づく審議を,県と市のマスタープランに即して検討した.県と市のマスタープランは中心市街地の発展を示す一方で,商業施設の不足を克服するために,幹線道路沿道の商業開発を認めている.そのため,県と市の都市計画審議会は,大型店が中心市街地に及ぼす影響を考慮せず,大型店開発のために市街化区域の拡大を認めた.しかし,住居系用途地域で大型店が集積し,用途地域の種類と実際の土地利用が乖離している.
