Norbert Wiener suggested the interdisciplinary collaboration that was later called cybernetics. Throughout the several meetings he arranged from 1942 to 1945, Wiener gradually changed his views regarding what the key concept of cybernetics should be. In 1943, Wiener emphasized the negative feedback, drawing an analogy between a machine and a human brain. Then, during 1944, the interaction with his collaborator John von Neumann, who built a high-speed computer, led Wiener to focus on control mechanisms. Finally, at the meeting in 1945, Wiener proposed the concept of communication as a common subject of this interdisciplinary research, aiming to connect control engineering with computer engineering.

China’s arrival as a maritime power is an undeniable feature of today’s international society. This is gaining the attention of those in the west and the neighboring countries. This article aims to clarify and analyze the starting point of Chinese maritime strategy. The analysis focuses on the thoughts of the Mao Zedong, who represents the first generation of leaders in China whose thinking affects china’s policy making today.

The purpose of this paper is to examine how gender imbalance is constructed and what gender issues occur in teacher allocation at elementary schools. We conducted an interview survey to 10 male teachers in metropolitan areas to examine the actual conditions of male teacher allocation in elementary schools and analyze how gender imbalance occurs. Female teachers are prone to be allocated to lower grades and male teachers aren't much even if they want to. This imbalance results from gender biased consideration for female teachers, who carry out responsibility for care of their family and young children. Work of upper grades is so tough and hard that female teachers tend to avoid taking charge of upper grades. And then male teachers are often taken their workplaces in upper grades and they do busy and hard work. Male teachers are also expected masculine and controlling role to student behavior. Additionally work of upper grades is in a spotlight or central parts at schools, on the other hands, work of lower grades is regarded as shadow work. This gender imbalance works as sexual discrimination in elementary schools. Some experiences of male teachers suggest possibilities to change gender imbalance in teacher allocation. Changing balance of disproportionate work between lower grades and upper grades and sharing hard work will improve institution and structure in schools.

本研究では機関リポジトリへの論文登録がその論文の被引用数と電子ジャーナルのアクセス数に与える影響を明らかにするために,『Zoological Science』掲載論文を2つの機関リポジトリに登録し,被引用数と電子ジャーナルアクセス数への影響を観察する実験を行った.実験は2008-2010年にかけ行い,実験前後の機関リポジトリ登録論文の電子ジャーナルアクセス数,被引用数の変化を,登録しなかった論文と比較した.また,機関リポジトリ登録論文の利用状況を分析するとともに,機関リポジトリ利用者と電子ジャーナル利用者をIPアドレスに基づき比較した.その結果,機関リポジトリへの登録により電子ジャーナルアクセス数が減ることはなく,新たな利用者を獲得できていた.しかし論文の被引用数を増やす効果はなかった.機関リポジトリ利用者の多くが動物学研究者ではなく,他分野の研究者や一般市民であったためと考えられる.To evaluate how the deposition of journal articles in Institutional Repositories (IRs) affects the number of citations and e-journal usage, we placed some articles published in Zoological Science in two Japanese IRs and collected their usage data in IRs and e-journals, as well as with the number of resulting citations. The experiment was started in 2008 and we compared the number of e-journal usage and citations of articles deposited in IRs before and after the experiment with those were not. In addition, we analyzed users' behaviour in IRs and compared user groups in IRs with those in e-journals based on users' IP addresses. The results revealed that deposition in IRs did not reduce e-journal usage. Moreover, whereas the journals gained new readers, this did not have an effect on the number of citations because most of new readers may be not researchers in Zoology but those in other fields or lay people.

太平洋戦争中の父島は南方戦線への物資輸送の中継点であった。1944(昭和44)年6月にアメリカ軍のサイパン攻略が始まると、硫黄島の防衛力増強が必要となった。そこで、日本軍は父島を経由して物資を硫黄島に届けるべく、船団を組織した。しかし、多くの艦船が潜水艦、艦載機により攻撃を受け、沈没・損傷した。1944年8月4日、駆逐艦「松」を旗艦とする第四八〇四船団は、アメリカ海軍任務58機動部隊の艦載機の攻撃、および任務58.1.6機動部隊の巡洋艦・駆逐艦の砲撃をうけた。この攻撃はレーダーと連携した砲撃の実験であることが示唆された。
