Streptococcus faecalis is the primary ingredient of medical probiotics. It has now been identified as an enterococcal species, after being reclassified as Enterococcus faecalis. Despite this reclassification, most package inserts and drug interview sheets have maintained the name S. faecalis. Meanwhile, reports of results from drug susceptibility tests using medical probiotics that contain S. faecalis commonly refer to this species of bacterium as E. faecalis. In this study, we used biochemical identification testing, mass spectrometry and 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing to verify whether the seven strains of S. faecalis, which is present in various medical probiotics, could be identified as the strain currently classified as E. faecalis. All strains were identified as E. faecium by all techniques.

We conducted a survey to assess changes in dosage of drugs for treatment of heart failure patients. The survey included all patients admitted to the Mie-Heart Center for heart failure treatment between July 2021 and December 2021. We included 80 patients whose medications could be confirmed after one year. The patients were divided into three groups according to LVEF at baseline: HFrEF, HFmrEF, and HFpEF groups. The endpoint was the change in heart failure medication dose at baseline and after 1 year. Dose changes were classified into “no administration”, “same dose”, “increased dose”, “additional dose”, and “reduced dose”. Statistical analysis was performed by cross-tabulation and chi-square test and residual analysis. There were significant differences in MRA for dose change overall (p<0.001) and dose change overall for RA system inhibitors (p=0.001) and SGLT2 inhibitors (p=0.023), and the adjusted residual ʻno dose’ for all three factors was higher in the HFpEF group. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in dose change overall for β-blockers (p=0.005), and the adjusted residual ʻdose increase’ was higher in the HFrEF group. Our findings suggest that there were many patients in the HFrEF group who continued to take MRA and RA system inhibitors at the induction dose and increased the dose of β-blockers, suggesting a tendency by medical staff to administer additional SGLT2 inhibitors.

Kiryuite and gunmaite were found as new minerals from Tsukubara, Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Kiryuite is a Mn-rich analogue of viitaniemiite with an ideal formula of NaMnAl(PO4)F3 that mainly occurs as a white powder in cracks in triplite aggregate and occasionally forms porous plate-like aggregates up to 5 mm in size, while the grains are several micrometers in size. In most cases, the aggregates are also accompanied by small amounts of other minerals such as goyazite, gorceixite, and fluorite. Kiryuite shows white streaks with a vitreous luster, and its Mohs hardness is estimated to be 5 by analogy with viitaniemiite. The calculated density is 3.32 g·cm−3 based on the empirical formula and unit cell volume refined from powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) data. The empirical formula for kiryuite calculated on the basis of O = 4 and F + OH = 3 is Na0.97(Mn0.56Ca0.38Fe0.04Mg0.02)Σ1.00Al0.98P1.02O4(F2.29OH0.71)Σ3. Kiryuite is monoclinic (P21/m) with a = 5.425(4) Å, b = 7.128(4) Å, c = 6.817(6) Å, β = 109.41(7)°, and V = 248.7(3) Å3 (Z = 2). The parameters [d in Å (I/I0) hkl] for the six strongest lines associated with kiryuite in the powder XRD pattern are 3.123 (57) 002, 2.923 (53) 012 and 120, 2.877 (100) 121, 2.560 (27) 200, 2.263 (43) 103, and 2.155 (76) 221. Gunmaite is a new alunite-related mineral with a new structure type that has an ideal formula of (Na2Sr)Sr2Al10(PO4)4F14(OH)12. Gunmaite mainly occurs as a core in hexagonal tablet crystals that coexist with gorceixite and goyazite-like minerals. Gunmaite is colorless and transparent with a greasy to resinous luster and is non-fluorescent. As a bulk crystal including gunmaite, the Mohs hardness is 5, cleavage is perfect on {001} planes, and the tenacity is brittle. The calculated density based on the empirical formula is 3.38 g·cm−3 using the empirical formula and single-crystal XRD data. The empirical formula for gunmaite calculated on the basis of O = 16 and F + OH = 26 is (Na1.72Sr0.70Mg0.56Ca0.01)Σ2.99(Sr1.32Ba0.68)Σ2(Al9.82Mg0.18)Σ10P3.99O16F16.21(OH)9.79. Gunmaite is trigonal (R3m) with a = 6.9972(2) Å, c = 50.270(2) Å, and V = 2131.51(13) Å3 (Z = 3). The structure consists of two PO4, AlO2(OH)4, AlF6, AlOF3(OH)2, SrO6(OH)6, and NaF8 polyhedra. Kiryuite and gunmaite are products of the final stage of hydrothermal activity in association with greisenization.

Clinically, strengthening exercises for scapular abductor muscles such as serratus anterior is usually prescribed for patients with scapular winging. However, the effect of such exercises on shoulder function is still unclear. The purpose of this study was to examine the changes of muscle strength on the shoulder joint after exercise for scapular abductor muscles. Thirty-six healthy male subjects participated in this study. All subjects were randomly assigned to either the exercise group (EX group) or control group (CO group). Initially, the muscle strengths of scapular protraction (PR), shoulder flexion (FL), abduction (AB), external rotation (ER), and internal rotation (IR) were measured in both groups. The EX group was instructed to perform the modified "elbow push up plus". The CO group did not perform any exercise. The muscle strengths were measured again after the training period. The paired t-test was used to compare the muscle strengths between before and after the training period. The muscle strengths of scapular PR, shoulder FL, AB and IR were significantly increased in the EX group (p<0.05). On the other hand, no significant increase was found in the CO group. Since the movement of shoulder FL, AB and IR involve scapular posterior tilt, upward rotation, and protraction movement, respectively, the increase of scapular abduction strength might have caused the increase in muscle strengths of shoulder FL, AB and IR. The muscle strength of the shoulder complex may depend on the function of the scapulothoracic joint.

In this study, I examine a new direction for research on festival offerings. Previous studies have identified offerings as a key element in Japanese festivals, and have analyzed their impact on food culture and faith in the region. However, the analysis method of the offerings had not been shared in previous studies. In this study, how the elements of culture and religion did affect the characteristics of the offerings, and then analyzed using a new analysis method.I found local ingredients used in offerings were heavily affected by regional agricultural and fishery concerns. In addition,the type of food used in an offering and food equipment its presentation varied depending on the hierarchical position of the god to whom the offering was made, in case of NUKISAKI and YAHIKO shrines. Based on these findings, future research on festival offerings should pay specific attention to construction in order to provide a new perspective on their local cultural significance.

Under the banner of "structural reform without sanctuaries", the government is attempting to promote the introduction of market principles into the medical care system. Although the primary purpose of this reform is to reduce the total national medical expenses, it is also expected that the market mechanism will contribute to the improvement of medical services. However, if we consider the managed care system in America, it is clearly evident that the deregulation of the medical care system produces numerous adverse effects and that the market mechanism does not work as expected. From an ethical point of view, the most serious problem is that excessive deregulation leads to the corruption of medical quality and "social exclusion" of the vulnerable; this is because market principles, by definition, do not include any ethical norms in the regulation of the market itself. Considering the supposed nature of the medical care system, we should control the power of market principles. The national medical care system must be considered as a public issue, and not as a matter of "self-interest"; therefore, it requires the higher principle of "fairness" as its moral foundation.

本稿は,比較史的なパースペクティブのもとで日本における独立監査に関するプロフェッション形成を歴史的に叙述することを通じて,日本の監査プロフェッション化の独特性を明らかにすることを企図している。わが国の公認会計士制度は,第二次大戦後,占領下において,証券取引法に基づいて提出される財務諸表の監査証明の担い手としての新たな役割を果たすために創設されたものである。本稿では,プロフェッションと国家との関係性に焦点を当てながら,公認会計士制度が創設されたプロフェッション形成プロセスを描写する。プロフェッションの比較史的観点から,プロフェッションへの参入および懲戒のあり方をめぐる規制のモード,および,プロフェッション団体の会員制のあり方とその国家との関係の2点に絞って議論・分析を行なう。最後に,そこから得られるインプリケーションとこの研究のもたらす意義に関する結論を述べる。

The Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT: Frederick, 2005) is a test designed to measure individual differences in intuitive-reflective thinking styles, and consists of three questions in a fixed order. Although Toplak, West, & Stanovich (2014) have proposed four additional questions, their validity as substitutes was not fully examined. This study investigated (1) the equivalences of the original and new questions, (2) order effects for the three original questions, and (3) the dependency of the CRT across instruction conditions (i.e., standard, under time pressures or stressing accuracy). More specifically, we administered a paper-and-pencil version of the CRT to 128 undergraduate students and analyzed both task performances and confirmation ratings. The results indicated (a) that three of the new questions are not suitable substitutes for the original CRT questions, (b) that order effects in terms of independent item-specific characteristics were observed only for the confirmation ratings, and (c) that the instructions had no effect on either performance or confirmation ratings. Finally, we discussed the importance of investigating both the CRT’s methodology and the cognitive processes underlying the CRT.

Marine cavernous landforms, including notches, caves, arches and tunnels, characterize the rocky coast landscape and are strongly influenced by the geology (e.g., rock strength and structure) of sea cliffs. Geological controls on the development and shape of marine cavernous landforms are evaluated based on field investigations along the Pacific coastlines of Honshu Island, Japan. Morphological parameters, width (w), depth (d), and height (h), of cavernous landforms were measured directly or through images taken with an unmanned aerial vehicle, together with geological factors, such as rock types, strength (Schmidt hammer rebound values: R), dips and strikes of bedding, major joints, and fault planes. In total, 76 caves are investigated in six coastal areas: Sanriku Coast, Joban Coast, Boso Peninsula, Miura Peninsula, Izu Peninsula, and Kii Peninsula. According to shape index, d/w, and presence of the open end, cavernous landforms are classified into notches (d/w < 1, closed end), caves (d/w ≥ 1, closed end), arches (d/w < 1, open end), and tunnels (d/w ≥ 1, open end). An analysis shows that the major geological controls differ between notches and the other three forms. Low rock strength (R < 40) and sub-horizontal bedding are, respectively, the primary and secondary controls on the formation of notches, whereas weak rock structures (joints, faults and bedding) with a dip steeper than 30° (vertical or steeply inclined structures) and a strike trending perpendicular to the cliff face are the major controls on the formation of caves, arches and tunnels. Rock strength also affects planar forms defined by the shape index, promoting a deepening of cavernous forms, particularly when the cliff has a medium rock strength (R = 30-50) that provides an optimal balance between erosion force and resisting force. In general, vertical or steep structures contribute to the deepening of holes, whereas horizontal or gentle structures favor widening.

Dadachamame is the common name for edamame soybean [Glycine max L.(Merr.)] cultivars, ‘Shirayama’, ‘Kanro’ and ‘Oura’, which have been established in Tsuruoka city, Yamagata prefecture in northern Japan since the late Edo era. Dadachamame has a good taste and special aroma. Although it is known that the good taste of Dadachamame is caused by the higher levels of sucrose and free amino acids based on the comparative analysis of chemical components in the seeds of Dadachamame and other soybean cultivars, details on the genetic level are unclear. To understand the good taste of Dadachamame on the genetic level, in this study, we developed an F2 population derived from a cross between the Dadachamame cultivar ‘Shirayama’ and the soybean cultivar ‘Enrei’. In the early development stage, Shirayama seeds had about 2-fold higher accumulation levels of sucrose compared with Enrei seeds. Sucrose content and genotype of the F2 population suggested that the quantitative trait locus (QTL) for high sucrose accumulation is located on the long arm of chromosome 12. The genes responsible for determining the sweetness of Shirayama may be present on chromosome 12. Using the lines developed from crosses between Dadachamame and soybean cultivars in future studies, we will attempt to identify the genes responsible for QTL that control for the good taste in specific Dadachamame seeds, and discuss the mechanisms for determining the good taste of Dadachamame to improve the palatability of edamame. Furthermore, we have developed mutant edamame populations that can be used for edamame breeding. Since mutant soybean populations have already been developed, meticulous soybean breeding will be possible in the future for creating the desired characteristics for the final soybean products.
