Myeloid cell leukemia sequence 1 (MCL1) is a potent antiapoptotic protein that plays a critical role in cell survival and drug resistance in various cancers. However, to the best of our knowledge, the role of MCL1 in mast cell tumors (MCTs) has not been investigated in dogs. Here, we detected increased MCL1 expression in MCT cell lines, regardless of the presence of a c-kit mutation. MCL1 expression increased when the cells were exposed to specific inhibitors of mitogen-activated protein kinase or Janus kinase-signaling pathways, thus protecting the cells from apoptosis, but not when KIT or phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase signaling cascades were inhibited. These results indicate that MCL1 expression may contribute to MCT survival and confer drug resistance.

Two dogs that exhibited sudden astasia, anorexia and fever higher than 40°C were suspected of having Lyme disease in July 2011. Clinical symptoms gradually improved with antibiotic treatment in both cases. Polymerase chain reaction and sequence analysis revealed Borrelia garinii DNA fragments in the peripheral blood in the acute disease phase. Serological tests, including enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot analysis, showed an increased IgG antibody titer against Borrelia pathogens in one of the dogs. These findings suggested that diagnosis of the two dogs was Lyme disease related to B. garinii infection.

We analyzed the distribution of 11 periodontitis-related bacterial species in dental plaque collected from 176 Japanese dogs divided into young (less than 2 years of age), middle-aged (2–7 years of age) and elderly (more than 8 years of age) groups using a polymerase chain reaction method. Clinical examination revealed that no dogs in the young group were affected by periodontitis, whereas the rates for gingivitis and periodontitis were high in the middle-aged and elderly groups. In addition, the total numbers of bacterial species in the middle-aged and elderly groups were significantly greater than in the young group. Our findings suggest that age is an important factor associated with the distribution of periodontitis-related bacteria and periodontal conditions in dogs.

経口的胆汁酸負荷試験を腸疾患 (特に回盲部疾患, 回盲部切除例) に応用し, 胆汁酸の吸収障害を検討した. まず健常者10例において負荷胆汁酸を検討すると酵素法にて血清総胆汁酸濃度を測定する場合遊離型 ursodeoxycholic acid 600mg負荷が有用であり, 次にこれを回盲部疾患7例, 回盲部切除5例に負荷すると, 負荷後の血清総胆汁酸濃度は, 平担な pattern を示し, 特に負荷後120分値がそれぞれ9.5±2.0μM/l, 7.6±0.6μM/lと健常者の20.9±3.4μM/lに比して有意に低値であつた.また各疾患の個々の症例での負荷後のピーク値を比較すると, 回盲部疾患, 回盲部切除例は, 健常者に比して有意に低値であつた. これらのことより, 遊離型 ursodeoxycholic acid 600mgを使用した経口的胆汁酸負荷試験は, 回盲部疾患における胆汁酸吸収障害をよく反映した

To clarify the long-term effects of occupational exposure to low doses of radiation, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-specific antibody titers in sera from 104 radiological technologists (R.T.) and 118 controls in Kumamoto prefecture were measured by the immunofluorescence method. Antibody titers to viral capsid antigen (VCA)-IgG increased with the years of experience as R.T., and the prevalence of abnormal antibody titers to both VCA-IgG and early antigen (EA)-IgG were significantly higher in R.T. with over 15 years of experience or 30 rads of cumulative radiation dose than in the controls. However, there was no correlation between exposure and the frequency of abnormal EBV-associated nuclear antigen (EBNA) antibody titers. The EBV-specific antibody titers of 24 Hiroshima atomic-bomb survivors were also measured. They were similar to those of the R.T. with over 30 years of experience. The EBV-specific antibody titers of R.T. suggest that there may be an impairment of immunologic competence after continuous long-term exposure to low doses of radiation. Also, the correlation of EBV-specific antibody titers and frequency of cells with chromosome aberrations in 53 R.T. was studied. Some correlations were found between the antibody titers to both of the VCA-IgG and EBNA and the frequency of cells with chromosome aberrations.

Among the peripheral blood lymphocytes, T-cells and B-cells significantly decreased in number with age. Radiation exposure resulted in further significant decrease of T-cell count (but not B cells) in the elderly. T-cell response to PHA and allo-antigens also decreased with dose in the elderly group. In contrast, NK cell number and function increased with age while a significant dose effect was not observed.

In order to clarify the relationship between acute physical exercise and immunity, the numbers of overall leucocytes, lymphocytes and neutrophils, the concentrations of immunoglo-bulins and complements, the ratios of lymphocyte subsets (OKT 3, 4, 8, Leu 7, OKIa 1) and the levels of lymphocyte transformation response to PHA were measured in nine untrained male subjects (18-22 years old) before, immediately after, along with 24 and 72 hours after acute physical exercise at 50% of VO2max for 2 hours. Before exercise all components were within normal range. Exercise produced a significant rise in the number of leucocytes and neutrophils overall. The response of lymphocytes to PHA immediately after exercise was significantly lower than before, or 24 hours or 72 hours after exercise.There was no change in the number of lymphocytes, or in the concentration of immunoglo-bulins and complements before and after exercise. Likewise the ratios of lymphocyte subsets also remained unchanged.From these results, it can be concluded that acute physical exercise by untrained subjects is one kind of physical stressor and can contribute to T cell dysfunction.

Recent phylogenetic studies using mtDNA and allozymes have revealed the presence of large genetic differentiation within a Japanese clawed salamander, Onychodactylus japonicus, suggesting the presence of several cryptic taxa in this species. Based on morphological analyses, we describe one of them from the Tsukuba Mountains of Ibaraki Prefecture, in the Kanto district of eastern Honshu, as a new species, Onychodactylus tsukubaensis. It is a member of the japonicus species complex of Onychodactylus, and differs from the other species of the complex by a relatively short tail, wide head, and large number of vomerine teeth.

A new quantification method for triglyceride (TG) molecular species contained in fish oil was developed using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-ultraviolet detector (UV) system. In this experiment, triacontyl silane column and a mixture of alcohol and acetonitrile were used for column and mobile phase, respectively. Fifteen kinds of TG molecular species exist in fish oil were collected and the calibration curves monitored at 210nm were acquired for each TG molecular species. Also, evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD), widely used for the detection of fish oil TG molecular species, was tandem jointed after UV to compare the calibration curves for each TG molecular species. As the results, the calibration curves by UV with isocratic elution system were linear lines, on the contrary, those by ELSD were not linear. The slope of each calibration curve by UV was not the same and there was a tendency that TG molecular species having big partition number indicates a small slope calibration curve. The HPLC-UV with gradient system was also examined, but a few of standard TGs did not provide linear calibration curve. Consequently, we concluded that isocratic HPLC-UV system would be an available method for the quantification of TG molecular species in fish oil.

The Melodious Laughing Thrush Garrulax canorus is an introduced species in Japan, and it has been recorded in the wild since the 1980s. The distribution of this species was estimated based on questionnaires. Four populations of this species have been confirmed in the western Kanto, northern Kyushu, southern Tohoku and Nagano Prefecture. There is a possibility that the expansion of this species is limited by elevational conditions and snowfall. Nevertheless, the distribution is still expanding. Therefore, it is necessary, as soon as possible, to assess the effect of the Melodious Laughing Thrush on the native birds.

2030年頃に予測されている世界食料危機に対応するためには, 日本は海産資源に頼らざるを得ない. 特に生産力が高い沿岸浅海域の増殖環境の整備が不可欠である. しかし, 日本の沿岸浅海域では環境破壊や水質汚濁等により水産資源の増殖に重要な藻場の消失が進行している. よって沿岸浅海域の環境保全と藻場の回復を行う技術開発が極めて重要である.沿岸環境を劣化させている一因として, 火力発電所から排出されるフライアッシュ (FA), クリンカーアッシュ (CL) の沿岸域への投棄, および, コンクリートの基本材料となる骨材 (砂利および砂) の沿岸域からの過量な採取がある.本研究の目的はFAおよびCLをコンクリートに混合して再利用し, さらに地場産業からの廃棄物である低品質ゼオライトおよび鉄分含量が多い鋳物廃砂 (鉄分) も混合して, 生物易付着性を付与した廃棄物利用コンクリートを開発し, これを人工藻礁として活用することである. これが成功すれば, 浅海生産環境の保全・修復および廃棄物の再資源化を同時に解決することが可能となる.まず, 配合材料が異なるPlain (通常のモルタル), FA & CL FA & CL+ゼオライト, FA & CL+鋳物廃砂, FA & CL+ゼオライト+鋳物廃砂モルタル供試体の5種類を作製し, 人工藻礁としての利用性を検討するため, 耐久性・強度を評価した・次にFA & CLモルタル供試体について有害物質の溶出試験を行い, 海洋環境や生物に対する安全性を評価した. 次いで各モルタル供試体を海水に浸漬し, 表面に形成された生物膜のバイオマスをATP量, クロロフィルa量およびFDA分解活性を測定することにより評価した.強度試験の結果, FA・CLおよび鋳物廃砂やゼオライトを混合した廃棄物利用コンクリートは, 人工藻礁として十分な強度を有することが明らかとなった. また溶出試験を行った結果, FAとCLを混合したモルタル供試体から重金属類および有機リンの溶出はほとんど認められず, 廃棄物利用コンクリートを藻礁として利用する上で安全性を確認する第一歩を踏み出すことができた.生物易付着性試験を行った結果, ゼオライトと鋳物廃砂 (鉄分) を配合した3系 (FA & CL+ゼオライト, EA & CL+鋳物廃砂, FA & CL+ゼオライト+鋳物廃砂) のATP量は, Plainと同等か多かった. クロロフィルa量は, FA & CL+鋳物廃砂>FA & CL+ゼオライト>FA & CL+ゼオライト+鋳物廃砂=FAamp;CL>Plainの順に多かった. FDA分解活性はPlainと各系に有意な差は見られなかった. 以上の結果から, FA・CLおよび鋳物廃砂 (鉄分) やゼオライトを混合した廃棄物利用コンクリートは, 生物の付着性も良好であり, 特に藻類の著しい増加が見られ, 人工藻礁として利用できる可能性が高いことが示された.

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as a forward obstacle collision warning system (FOCWS) and a night vision enhancement system (NVES) aim to decrease driver's mental workload and enhance vehicle safety by provision of useful information to support driver's perception process and judgment process. On the other hand, the risk homeostasis theory (RHT) cautions that an enhanced safety and a reduced risk would cause a risk compensation behavior such as increasing the vehicle velocity. Therefore, the present paper performed the driving simulator experiments to discuss dependence on the NVES and emergence of the risk compensation behavior. Moreover, we verified the side-effects of spontaneous behavioral adaptation derived from the presentation of the fuel-consumption meter on the risk compensation behavior.

The influence of maternal vitamin B12 malnutrition on testicular development of offspring was examined using soy protein-based B12-deficient diets with or without 0.5% DL-methionine supplementation. Dams were fed the B12-deficient diet throughout gestation and lactation, whereas dams in a control group were fed a control diet which contained cyanocobalamin in the B12-deficient diet without methionine. Offspring born to dams fed the B12-deficient diet without methionine showed poor testicular development, e.g. decreased numbers of seminiferous tubules containing healthy spermatocytes and a high ratio of apoptotic cells per all germ cells. The abnormality was rarely observed in the group fed the B12-deficient diet with methionine. It was likely that the testicular abnormality of offspring was caused by B12-deficiency post partum and was prevented by the methionine supplementation. These observations suggested that maternal B12 nutritional status during the pre-weaning period is quite important for spermatogenesis of male offspring and that the requirement of B12 for testicular development is to produce active B12-dependent methionine synthase.

フランスではオーケストラの運営資金の大半が公的助成で賄われているため、民間企業をスポンサーとするアメリカとは異なり、景気に左右されることの少ない安定した経営が可能である。EUの統合により、国の境界線が低くなることによって、これまで伝統的な経営を行ってきたフランスのオーケストラの中にも危機感が強まり、ディレクタージェネラルが中心となって、積極的なマネジメントを行うオーケストラが現れてきている。

In this paper, the author states about the results of measurement of added moment of inertia and damping coefficieut about y axis, i. e. for pitching motion.A forced oscillation method same as was used by Golovato was employed for measuring device, and 14 series models varying Cb and L/B are used.As the added moment of inertia and the damping of pitching motion vary with the frequency of the motion, values of them corresponding to the natural pitching frequency are choosen as the typical values when discussing the effect of ship forms.A chart from which additional moment of enertia and damping coefficent of ships having arbitrary Cb, L/B and d/B can be obtained is proposed in this paper.

地域の要介護高齢者を支えるために,多職種間の連携・協働は不可欠である。しかしながら,必ずしも歯科医療従事者とその他の職種との連携は十分といえない。そこで「地域における顔の見える連携の構築」を目指して,「口腔ケアネットワーク(三島)」を立ち上げた。現在まで 2 回のシンポジウムを含む研修会を定期的に開催している。平成 24 年 10 月 20 日に開催した地域連携シンポジウムを通じて,患者や家族の思いをとらえ,情報と目的意識を共有して見守っていくことが関わる専門職の責務であり,地域の力になることを提言した。
