「デジタルアーカイブ」という言葉が登場し、人口に膾炙するようになったのはこの10年程のことである。文化資産をデジタル化して、記録し、発信するという営み自体はそれ以前より行なわれてきている。しかしながら、かつては、学術利用のために学術的価値のある資料を蓄積・公開したり、博物館・美術館が所蔵資料をデジタル化するといったものが主流だったのに対して、「デジタルアーカイブ」の登場以後は、文化資産の「正しい継承」や商業的利用にも重きが置かれるようになった。デジタルアーカイブはその性質上、評価や批判が容易ではないが、各々の合目的性に基づいて評価し、建設的に批判するための枠組みが必要である。Digital Archives have appeard and spread rapidly in these ten years. We have continued to digitize, store and publish intellectual properties for twenty years or more. At the beginning, scholars dealt with academic materials for their own research and museums digitized their own materials using databases. However, after "Digital Archives" appeared, new concepts such as orthodox succession of culture and commercial use have become the mainstream. It is difficult to evaluate or criticize digital archives, but we must do so for each digital archive based on its particular purpose.

Web-based knowledge-sharing communities, which are supported by countless voluntary Internet users, are in widespread use today. We explored a number of characteristics of interpersonal communication among participants based on their questioning and answering behaviors. A questionnaire survey on participants of Yahoo! Chiebukuro, one of the most popular knowledge-sharing communities in Japan, was conducted, and access data of their behavior in the community were collected. Based on 7,989 survey samples and access data, we found that there were several significant differences in their behavior and motivation based on their participation style, question content, and gender. Results also suggested that information was exchanged and accumulated actively in the community and interpersonal communication of community participants was developed by an aggressive need for information acquisition and subsequent social support.

Dried plums, considered a healthy food in the West and used as medicine in India, contain phenolic compounds with protective actions against age-related diseases. Effects of oral plum ekisu (concentrated juice) on lipid and glucose tolerance were assessed in insulin-resistant obese Wistar fatty rats. Plum ingestion decreased blood glucose (P < 0.05) and plasma triglyceride concentrations (P < 0.01) compared with controls. Plum treatment for 2 weeks reduced areas under the curve (AUCs) for glucose and insulin during a glucose tolerance test. In db/db mice, plum decreased these AUCs, and also blood glucose during an insulin tolerance test. Plum treatment significantly increased plasma adiponectin concentrations and PPARγ mRNA expression in adipose tissue from Wistar fatty rats. Plum thus may increase insulin sensitivity in these rats via adiponectin-related mechanisms.

本研究は、戦前期、外地に存在していた図書館や資料室において活動を展開した図書館員について、その履歴や職歴、活動の実績などを総合的に調査・研究しようとするものである。その目標に掲げたのは、これら図書館員の人名辞典的なデータベースを完成させることであった。それがこの3年間の研究により、この人名辞典の過半を完成させ、それを冊子体の科研報告書として刊行することができた。そしてこの研究により、戦前期外地の図書館・調査機関で活動した図書館員の全体像をおおむね明らかすることができた。さらに、かれらが、図書館員としての仕事とは別に活動を繰り広げた文学・美術・出版・演劇などの領域にあってもその活動実態が明確となり、それらの領域の研究に対しても文献的・書誌的な貢献ができるものと考えている。

我が国は医療の情報化自体は先進的であったし,現在でも情報システムの導入率という観点では世界の最高水準にある。しかし,情報化の目的は,事務処理の合理化が主体であり,情報を公益目的に利用する二次利用の面においては遅れていたと言わざるを得ない。しかし最近になって,我が国にも大規模な医療情報データベースが構築されるようになったが,それに伴い,公益利用とプライバシー保護の対立的な問題が顕在化してきた。例えば高齢者の医療確保に関する法律に基づいて作成されたレセプトおよび特定健診・保健指導のデータベースは一般的な公益利用に関して根拠法には記載がないために,利用に際して厳格な匿名化が求められ,安全管理に関する要求も厳しく,公益研究にとって使いやすいデータベースとは言えない。一般に,公益目的の研究を行う研究者がプライバシーの侵害を意図的に行う可能性はないと考えられるが,法的な要求自体が曖昧であるために,研究が促進されない可能性もある。医学は診療情報の公益利用なしには発展はあり得ないので,明確で研究者にとっても患者にとってもわかりやすい法制度の整備が強く望まれる。改正個人情報保護法が2015年9月に成立したが,政令や指針の整備は2017年と思われる法の実施までに議論される。医療に関するデータベース研究者はこれの議論を注視すべきであるし,必要な場合は適切な提言を行うべきと考えられる。
