Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), separated by centrifugation of autologous blood, is a plasma containing numerous platelets. Consequently, efficient separation of PRP can provide highly concentrated autologous growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), derived from α granules. However, it requires a substance to trigger platelet aggregation, in order to activate platelets to release the growth factors.In the present study, we investigated a procedure of activating platelets (aggregation) with calcium chloride alone, in the absence of thrombin, the safety of which is suspected. Prior to the investigation, we sought the optimal centrifugal conditions, i.e., centrifugal gravity and time, for separation of PRP. As a result, we discovered that a centrifugal gravity of 130 (×g) and a centrifugal time of 10 min, are the optimal conditions for separating PRP. The time required for platelet aggregation was prolonged in platelet activation by calcium chloride alone, as compared with platelet activation by thrombin. However, activation of platelets with calcium chloride alone demonstrated gelatinization of PRP indicative of sufficient fibrin formation.

Maleic Anhydride is produced through an oxidation in a catalytic vapor phase of various hydrocarbons, and Benzene and C4 Hydrocarbons are usually its feedstock in commercial production.A catalyst having vanadium oxides as an active component acts an important role in the process of oxidating hydrocarbons into Maleic Anhydride. In order to find out a catalyst having a higher selectivity against Maleic Anhydride, a study on the oxigen transfer mechanism over the surface of catalyst in the course of oxidation procedure was first carried out, and the oxidation kinetics was also developed for determing the optimum conditions for reation.Process for commercial purpose employs two types of reactor ; one being a fixed bed type and the other a fluidized bed type. In the following, comparison of these two types and characteristic features of several commercial processes for Maleic Anhydride production are also dealt with.

長野県内の圃場では、1970年代から栽培稲品種とは異なる赤米系のイネが自生し、収穫米に混入する事例が問題視されていた。善光寺平周辺で「トウコン」と呼ばれているこの雑草イネの発生理由や、品種の起源は明確ではない。明治以前の稲作では、食味に優れた品種の栽培が領主からは奨励される一方で、生活を支える食糧米としては、天候不順や水不足にも強い強靭な多収穫米の栽培が求められる側面もある。近代以前の稲作の二重構造を、現代の圃場に発生する「雑草イネ」問題の遠因として分析した。また、現在の「トウコン」の呼称は、明治期の農業政策により塗り替えられたものと考え、近世までの稲品種の分布に再検討が必要な点を指摘した。

グルタチオンS-転移酵素(GST)はミクロソーム酸化酵素であるチトクローム P450 と並んで生物体に広く存在する抱合酵素である。これは生体内で生合成や薬物の代謝分解に於いて重要な役割を演じている。α,μ,π,σ クラス GST では,チロシンがグルタチオン(GSH)のプロトンを引き抜き,GSH 抱合体を形成する。一方,昆虫の θ,δ,ε クラス GST では,セリンが近傍のペプチド結合のカルボニル基と相俟って,GSH からプロトンを引き抜き,GSH 抱合体を形成する。植物や大腸菌の GST は昆虫と同じセリンのシステムで GSH を活性化しているようである。本稿では,この GST の触媒機構と多様な機能を計算化学による必須アミノ酸残基の立体配座の視点から解説し,薬剤開発と抵抗性発現のイタチごっこの解消の足がかりを提案する。

In daily life and sport situations, external stimuli can be used to control exercise. In physical therapy, periodic auditory stimulation is said to be effective at improving patients' walking ability (walking speed, stride length, and cadence). A metronome, hand clapping, and vocalization are used by therapists to deliver periodic auditory stimuli. Prediction of the rhythm is necessary to perform efficient exercise based on auditory stimuli. Reaction time and synchronization tapping tasks are used to examine the ability to perform exercise according to rhythm prediction. The mechanisms of motor control in the central nervous system are different for periodic and non-periodic movements. This study describes the results of research on motion control according to rhythm prediction based on reaction time and synchronization tapping tasks, the ability to reproduce rhythmic movements with hand clapping and foot stepping, and rhythm tasks and sensory function, and discusses clinical applications of rhythm tasks.

This paper reports how the superconducting micro-resonators work as high-sensitivity photon detectors, from millimeter-wave signals to high-energy particles. The resonators are called microwave kinetic inductance detectors and are suitable for use in a large format array. The resonators are easily fabricated applying a few photolithographic processes, and the resonator yield is more than 90%. Hundreds of superconducting resonators can be biased with a single readout line, enabling them to be read out together with frequency multiplexing. We introduce the recent progress of scientific projects relying on this technique, and summarize our results for millimeter-wave astronomy and a high-energy particle detection system. The device was made using epitaxial aluminum on a silicon wafer and its noise was as low as the background limit, approximately 6 × 10−18 W/Hz1/2 in the millimeter-wave range. For high-energy particle detection, we investigated two materials: niobium and a hightemperature superconductor, YBa2Cu3O7-δ. The niobium-based device detected the alpha line (5.4 MeV) events. The pulse decay time was approximately 5 μs and energy resolution was approximately 1 MeV.

We made an oral survey of the Tibetans in three quite different areas and got interesting results. The comparative study was made in Karakoram (1974), North-west Nepal (1983), and Yunnan province, China (1989).1) In Karakoram, North-west Nepal, the number of cases of decidous tooth caries was extremely small. On the other hand, it was very great in Yunnan province.2) The eruption age of permanent teeth was quite similar in the three Tibetan areas. Japanese teeth change from deciduous teeth to permanent teeth at a younger age.3) In Yunnan province, the inhabitants had many decayed teeth in the upper front jaw, and few at lower front jaw. The number of decayed deciduous molars was large as in the Japanese.4) Caries surfaces: In Yunnan province, the number of cases of proximal and distal surface caries was great compared with that on occlusal and labiolingual surfaces. Caries in Yunnan province may be closely related to the manner of carbohydrate intake.

A simple and accurate interpolation method applicable to semi-Lagrangian advection in a spectral global atmospheric model and downscaling is presented. The derivatives required for bicubic interpolation are usually represented by finite differences. Accuracy of bicubic interpolation is found to be improved by using derivatives calculated by the spectral method. Thus, the zonal and meridional derivatives are obtained by the Fourier and Legendre transforms, respectively. The proposed method is validated with the Gaussian hill rotation tests. The semi-Lagrangian advection model with this method produces a minimal error, comparable to that of the non-interpolating semi-Lagrangian model. In order to avoid the computationally expensive Legendre transforms, semi-spectral interpolation methods using only zonal spectral derivatives are also tested. Semi-spectral interpolation is found to be as accurate as full-spectral bicubic interpolation when quintic interpolation is used in the meridional direction.
