Microbial and enzymatic transformation of synthetic substrates is attracting much attention as a useful method in synthetic organic chemistry. In this article, recent developements in this field are reviewed, dividing into three major sections which include oxidation, reduction and hydrolysis reactions. Methods for increasing the selectivity of some reactions are also described. Emphasis has been placed to the formation of optically active compounds, because enzymes are able to catalyze asymmetric reactions under mild conditions.

The conversion of (+) -limonen-10-ol (7) into the key intermediate for the synthesis of carbacyclin (1), (+) - (1S, 2R, 3R, 5R) -3-acetoxy-2-methoxycarbony1-7-oxobicyclo [3.3.0] octane (2), is described. The cis-3, 4-disubstituted cyclopentanone prepared from 7 via a sequence of reactions involving Rh (I) -catalyzed cyclization could be converted to the 3-acetylbicyclo [3.3.0] oct-2-ene skeleton, which was subjected to 1, 4-addition reaction with CN-. The resulting cyano compound was transformed into the key intermediate 2 through appropriate modification of the substituents on the five-membered ring. This synthetic method provides a new route to carbacyclin.

北海道の南西部,中央部,および北東部のアイヌにサハリンアイヌを加えたアイヌ4地域集団を対象にして,日本本土と琉球諸島諸集団の地域差と比較しながら,アイヌの地域差とはいったいどの程度のものであったのかを,頭蓋形態小変異20項目を指標にして評価してみた。地域差の大小関係は,スミスの距離(MMD)を尺度として比較した。北海道アイヌ3集団の地域差の程度は,奄美・沖縄・先島の琉球諸島近世人3集団の地域差よりはやや大きく,東北・関東・九州の日本本土の現代人3集団の地域差とほぼ同程度であった。北海道アイヌのなかでは,道北東部アイヌが道南西部および道中央部のアイヌとやや距離を置く傾向が観察された。サハリンアイヌは北海道アイヌから相当程度遠く離れ,その距離(MMD)の平均値は,北海道アイヌ3地域集団相互の距離の平均値の約4倍にも達した。このような関係は,18項目の頭蓋計測値にもとづいたマハラノビスの距離(D2)でも確かめられた。

The cause of deflation since the 1990's needs closer examination.At the same time, the population of those who are of working age has been reduced. Therefore, itcan be said that deflation is caused by the aging population, which the Governor of the Bank of Japanoften insisted was true. But the reduction of workers has been moderate, and besides it is not true thatthe domestic demand has dropped because of decrease in the consumption by elderly people. Deflationis apparently caused by business fluctuations and monetary circumstances. We need to have a policy toextract us from deflationary environment. It is believed that domestic demand and growth will fall in thefuture, and thus we need an economic policy with a firm future vision.

【目的】膝屈曲時に膝窩痛を訴える患者は腓腹筋内側頭(以下、内側頭)起始部に多くを認める。そこで今回、その部位が発痛部位となる理由について遺体解剖を通して調べたので考察を加えここに報告する。【対象】 熊本大学医学部解剖学第一講座の遺体8体12肢【方法】1)内側頭と腓腹筋外側頭(以下、外側頭)のそれぞれの起始付着部(以下、付着部)について精査と、膝裂隙から付着部までの距離を各々計測した。2)遺体で膝屈曲時に大腿骨顆部後方と脛骨上関節面後縁部で圧迫される組織を調べ、その組織が圧迫され始める時の膝屈曲角度を測定した。【結果】1)内側頭付着部は大腿骨内側上顆後方及び関節包であり、関節包との間には滑液包が認められた。外側頭付着部は関節包及び足底筋外下部であり、大腿骨外側上顆には付着していなかった。大腿骨外側上顆には足底筋が付着していた。また、膝裂隙から付着部までの距離は内側頭で42.6±0.6mm 、外側頭で29.3±0.6mm であった(p<0.01)。2)圧迫された組織は内側頭と足底筋であった。内側頭は鋭角に折り畳まれ圧迫を強いられていた。足底筋は折り畳まれるものの圧迫は軽微であった。その時の膝屈曲角度は内側頭側が103.9±4.9°であり、足底筋側が122.9±9.9°であった(p<0.01)。【考察】遺体での付着部の精査にて、内側頭と足底筋は関節裂隙を跨いで骨に付着するために膝屈曲時に両筋とも折り畳まれること、および膝屈曲時に内側コンパートメントの関節面の接点が外側コンパートメントのそれよりも前方に位置するために大腿骨内側顆部後方に楔状の間隙ができ、屈曲時この間隙に関節包および内側頭が嵌入する可能性があることが判明した。次に、膝屈曲角度において内側頭側と足底筋側の差は、内側頭のボリュームが足底筋のそれに比べ厚いことに起因しており、膝屈曲時には内側頭付着部がより強い圧迫を強いられることが示唆された。このことより内側頭付着部付近は正座やしゃがみ位など膝屈曲にてより損傷されやすい状況であるものと考えられた。しかし、生体の正常な膝関節では他動的屈曲時には関節包内圧の後方での高まり、同じく自動屈曲時には関節包内圧の後方での高まりと収縮している内側頭が付着部の一部である関節包を後方に引くことで関節包および内側頭の嵌入を防いでいると考えられ、内側頭付着部下の滑液包の存在を含めその部位への圧迫を軽減していると考えられる。加えて、変形性膝関節症などに伴う膝窩痛を有する高齢患者を想定した場合、加齢あるいは疾患による筋・関節包の柔軟性低下や短縮や滑液包の柔軟性低下などを背景とした膝屈曲における内側頭付着部付近の圧迫による筋・関節包・滑液包の微細損傷の発生およびその質的変化による筋滑走性の阻害などの可能性が考えられる。以上のことより、膝屈曲時の膝窩痛の発痛部位としては内側頭付着部が想定される。

一般に北海道における年平均降雨量や年間の大雨日数は、本州方面に比較して少ない。しかし、北海道胆振支庁管内のオロフレ山系南東斜面では、4月から10月までの7ケ月間の平均降雨量は2,000mm近くにも達し、日降雨量90mm以上の大雨の日も年間4~51回発生し、しばしば災害をもたらし、大雨地域として知られている。近野&bull;菊地(1981)による観測から、この地域の大雨は、その最大降雨量の位置から、山岳型、海岸型、平野型、北西斜面型、その他の5つに分類される。これらのことを更に詳細に調らべるために、この地域にAMeDASその他7ケ所の雨量計に更に独自に16ケ所の雨量計のメソスケールネットワークを設け、1980、81年の2年間、6月から10月にかけて集中観測を行った。雨量計の間隔は約5kmであった。<br>山岳型降雨の場合に限ってみると、最大降雨量は、オロフレ峠(海抜930m)と、白老の滝(海抜380m)付近に現われた。海抜高度が付近の山々に比べて、比較的低い白老の滝付近に最大降雨量が現われる原因を、地形を考慮して考察した。その結果、この斜面の南東側の太平洋からの暖湿気の南東風による移流では、比較的弱い降雨が緩斜面や平坦部で観測されるが、急斜面になる山岳部では強い降雨が観測された。このことから、海岸部から山岳部にいたる沢の形状が水平収束による降雨の増幅をうながしていることが推定された。<br>これらのことを確かめるために数値実験を行った。その結果、単なる上昇流だけでは観測値に達しなかった降雨量は、水平収束の効果を加えることによって、観測値とよい一致を示した。また、山岳部の降雨強度、風速、上層の雲からの降水強度の関係が議論された。その結果、上層の雲からの降水強度が強いほど、また風速が強いほど山岳部の降雨強度が強かった。これらの結果を、数値実験と比較した。山岳部の計算による降雨強度は、上層の雲からの降水強度と風速によって増加した。したがって、もし上層の雲からの降水強度と地上での風速が、かなり正確に得られれば、オロフレ山系南東斜面での山岳部の降雨強度を推定できることが示唆された。

Objective Dementia is a major cause of disruption for a healthy life expectancy in Japan. It has been suggested that the number of teeth is a modifiable risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia. We therefore examined the possible association between the cognitive function and the number of natural and artificial teeth in community-dwelling Japanese elderly individuals. Methods Among the participants in our prospective, community-based study, 210 elderly individuals (103 men and 107 women; 78.1±4.9 years; mean age±standard deviation) underwent both dental examinations and a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), as well as various medical checkups, in 2016 and 2017. Results The number of natural teeth was significantly associated with an individual's MMSE score. The percentage of cognitively normal subjects (MMSE scores: 27-30) decreased significantly with a decrease in the number of natural teeth. Among the MMSE items, the calculation ability was significantly and independently associated with the number of natural teeth. Regression was calculated as the predicted score of MMSE =21+0.3× (years of schooling) +0.1× (number of natural teeth). Among individuals with 19 or fewer natural teeth, those who had a total of 20 teeth or more, including both natural and artificial teeth, had significantly higher MMSE scores than those who had 19 or fewer natural and artificial teeth combined. Conclusion The number of natural teeth was significantly associated with the cognitive function, especially the calculation ability, and the use of artificial teeth was associated with the preservation of the cognitive function in community-dwelling elderly individuals.

Previously I presented 291 publications regarding biographies of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi and his related persons to Matsumoto Shigaku (13 : 1–34, 198₇ ; 15 : 21₇–231, 198₇ ; 20 : 80–99, 1994 ; 23 : 194–210, 199₇ ; 26 : 13₇–145, 2000). In this paper an additional book (Fig. 242), a color silver coin (Fig. 243), 4 postage stamps (Figs. 244–24₇) and a medal (2008, Figs. 248, A, B) were described. Noguchiʼs postage stamps were issued already 2 (1949 and 2013) in Japan ; 2 (19₇6) in Ecuador; 1 (1993) in Guyana; 3 (199₇) in Ghana. The Noguchiʼs memorial coin is the first in the medical world of Japan.
