Alluvial fans and cones on the foot of volcanoes have high hazard potential because of frequent inundation of debris flows and floods accompanying marked topographic changes. However, the social needs for the development of such lands are ever increasing, because of their high demand for recreational sites. Assessment of hazard potential and regulation of land use are thus urgent problems. This paper proposes fundamental principles for the assessment of hazard potential on the basis of a case study carried out at the Kikkakezawa Fan on the southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, central Japan . History of land use is summarized in Fig. 3. Existing villages are located below a major spring zone in the alluvial fan, which is fed by the groundwater in the volcanic body. Construction of a new road (PR) stimulated land developments along it and further upstream part of the fan. According to Kosaka (1992) the debris-flow deposits cover the fan in three geologically distinct ages (Fig.5). The ages of the deposition of the debris flows in the new and middle ages are estimated according to a close examination of aerial photographs (Fig.6) and a reconnaissance study of the microtopography (Fig.7). It then enables an estimation of the frequency of the debris flow inundation in the future. The site-by-site assessment of hazard potential and risk of disasters is usually difficult because the past occurrences of inundation are not always recorded and a reliable estimation of its future possibility is hardly available. It is, therefore, essential to regulate land use for individual areas on the basis of the assessment of the hazard potential from the regional viewpoint using the data about the geomorphic processes of a large time scale. In Fig.3,for example, it is obvious that the areas above the prefectural road (PR) constitute a zone of high hazard potential and high risk, among which the area of the planned extension of the golf courses (Gp) are extremely dangerous.

細いクモの糸は柔かくて強いと言われるが,繊維集合体となると繊維間に隙間があることから必ずしも強くない。クモの糸の繊維集合体において,隙間を軽減した構造を持つ切れにくいヴァイオリンの弦作りに成功した。クモの糸の弦でストラディヴァリウスに勝るとも劣らぬ音色を呈することを科学的に明らかにした。

We tried measurement of visual acuity in laboratory beagle using pattern stimulus visual evoked potential (P-VEP). We recorded P-VEP in 6 beagles which were corrected refractive power. The stimulus pattern size was 1.22 mm. The testing distance were 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 m. The visual angles and spatial frequency were calculated from stimulus pattern size and distance. In all subjects, P-VEP was clearly recorded in all testing distance, and this result means that the eye could recognized grid pattern on the stimulus monitor. When stimulus monitor was set up 2.0 m, spatial frequency was 14.29 cpd. From our results, it was founded that the visual acuity in laboratory beagle which was corrected refractive power was 14.29 cpd and more.

The dealloying behavior of Cu<SUB>60</SUB>Zr<SUB>30</SUB>Ti<SUB>10</SUB> metallic glass was investigated under free corrosion conditions using hydrofluoric acid (HF) solutions at room temperature. After immersing in HF solutions with various concentrations (0.05, 0.1, 0.5 and 1 M) for 300 s, color of all samples changed to be pinkish or peachy, which was ascribed to Cu based on the XRD patterns. According to the SEM-EDS study, HF immersion selectively leached the Zr and Ti elements, leaving Cu behind. Increasing the HF concentration increased the dealloying rate. Moreover, the HF concentration strongly influenced the surface morphology of the resulting Cu.

Skin color and juice constituents in large(L), medium(M), nad small(S) fruits of four peach cultivars, Hashiba-hakuho(early maturing), were analyzed to elucidate the effect of fruit size on the quality. The fruits containing higher soluble solids than 12°Brix were samled at a commercial packing-house located in southen Okayama. They were stored at 25℃ until fully ripened. The skin color on the cheeks (yellowish) was dark in S fruits of Hashiba-hakuto and Hakurei, respectively, compared to the fruits of other sizes. The sucrose + fructose content in juice, the major source of the sweetness, was higher in S and M fruits in Hakuho, Shimisu-hakuto, and Hakurei, while the malic+citric acid content, the major sour constituent, was lower in L fruits in those cultivars, although no significant difference was found in Hashiba-hakuho. Asparagine, the biggest amino acid fraction and thought to deteriorate the fruit taste at high levels, was higher in L fruits tahn in S fruits in Hashiba-hakuho and Hakuho. The content in Shimizu-hakuto and Hakurei fruits was generally low and not affected by fruit size. The content of γ-decalactone, the major peachy aromatic substance, was higher in L fruits in Hashiba-hakuto, in M fruits in Hakuho and Shimizu-hakuto, and in S fruits in Hakurei, than in those of other sizes. Sensory tests revealed that the L fruits of Hakuho and S fruits of Hakurei were poor in flavor. These results suggest that the larger fruits of Hakuho, Shimizu-kakuto, and Hakurei, the representative white peach fruits in Okayama, have rather falatter tastes than medium size fruits because of their lower sweetness and sourness and weaker aroma, as well as poorer texture.岡山市一宮のモモの選果場に出荷された有袋栽培の'橋場白鳳'(早生),'白鳳'(早中生),'清水白桃'(中生)および'白麗'(晩生)から,3段階のサイズ(L,M,S)の果実を入手し,完熟状態(手で皮が剥ける)に達するまで25℃の室温においた.それらの果実について,果皮色と果汁成分の分析と果肉の食味テストを行い,果実のサイズによる品質の相違を検討した.'橋場白鳳'では,S果実は地色が暗く,'清水白桃'のL果実は着色が濃いが色調が暗く,'白麗'のL果実は着色が薄くて黄色が強く,いずれも外観が劣った.果汁中の主要な甘味成分であるスクロース+フルクトース含量は,'白鳳','清水白桃'および'白麗'ではSまたはL果実で高く,酸味成分のリンゴ酸+クエン酸含量は,それら3品種のL果実で最も低かった.'橋場白鳳'では果実サイズによる糖・酸含量の有意な差がなかった.果実に苦みを与えるアスパラギン含量は,'橋場白鳳'と'白鳳'ではL果実で高かったが,'清水白桃'と'白麗'ではどのサイズでも含量が低かった.モモ香の主成分であるγ-decalactoneは,'橋場白鳳'ではL果実で高かったが,'白鳳'と'清水白桃'ではM果実で,'白麗'ではS果実で高かった.官能テストの結果,'白鳳'のL果実と'白麗'のS果実は食味が劣った.これらの結果から,岡山の「白桃」を代表する'白鳳','清水白桃','白麗'の大果は,中程度の大きさの果実より甘味と酸味が低く,アロマが弱いなど,食味が薄く,肉質も劣ると考えられる.
