Recently, public computer terminals called "kiosk terminal" become popular in museums. Kiosk terminals explain the exhibitions of the museum by displaying digital contents constructed on the WWW. Generally, existing WWW browsers are used for the browser application for kiosk terminals. However, because existing WWW browsers are designed for the personal usage, there are not suitable for the public usage such as the kiosk terminal in the museum. In this paper, we propose a new browser named "BTRON Kiosk Browser" which can browse digital contents on the WWW and provides suitable user interfaces for the public kiosk terminal. We explain technical problems which are necessary to give suitable user interfaces for the public kiosk WWW browser, and propose our BKB user interface techniques to overcome these problems.

本研究は、国際比較実証研究により、映画・CG・アニメといった映像関連コンテンツ産業におけるクリエイティブプロセスを、企業とテンポラリー組織の戦略・ガバナンス・リーダーシップの相違という視点から分析し、さらに産業クラスターとテンポラリークラスターの果たす役割を検討することを目的とし、日米において企業とテンポラリー組織のキーパーソン、 テンポラリークラスターとして SIGGRAPH (CG 学会&展示会) の現地調査を実施した。

旧人ネアンデルタール・新人サピエンス交替劇の最大の舞台のひとつ西アジア死海地溝帯に焦点を当て、事例研究として、一帯における交替劇の真相解明に取り組み、次の結果を得た。両者の文化の違いは学習行動の違いに基づく可能性が高いこと、その学習行動の違いは両者の学習能力差、とりわけ個体学習能力差が影響した可能性が高いこと、両者の学習能力差を解剖学的証拠で検証可能であること、三点である。以上の結果を統合して、交替劇は両者の学習能力差に基づく可能性があり、この説明モデルを「学習仮説」と定義した。

近年、公共施設などに設置された監視カメラ映像から、注視すべき映像を見落とさずに検出するための自動監視システムが注目されている。これまでの研究では、検出すべき行動やイベントなどのモデルデータを予め与え、モデルデータと合致する行動を検出する手法や、初めて観測された行動や観測頻度の低い行動を検出する手法が提案されている。これらの手法は特定の環境に依存した情報を学習しているため、学習結果を別の環境に適用できないことが課題となっていた。本研究課題では、複数の環境に共通の特徴に注目することによって、ある環境で学習した日常的な行動を基に、学習環境とは異なる環境で非日常状態を検出する手法を提案している。

This paper demonstrates the application of microfocus X-ray computed tomography (CT) to study solute transport in cracked concrete. Cracks in a cylindrical specimen of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and fly ash mortar were induced using a splitting tensile test. Cesium Carbonate (Cs2CO3) was then used as a tracer in the in-situ diffusion test with the aid of X-ray CT. Image analysis was also employed to measure the 3D crack geometry and tracer diffusivity from these CT images. The geometric tortuosity of the crack was approximately 1.25 irrespective of the crack opening width and whether fly ash was added or not. On the other hand the constrictivity increased for the fly ash mortar having roughly the equivalent crack opening width. The measured diffusivity in the crack was controlled by both crack opening width and constrictivity. Results obtained from microtomographic images suggest that the entire crack space may not always be filled with the tracer. The diffusive transport of solute in cracks thus can be restricted from microstructure’s point of view. Smaller crack opening would increase such restricted diffusion. Indications also suggest that the addition of fly ash would lead to the reduction of diffusivity through uncracked body of the mortar.

ボランティアコンピューティング (VC) で高い性能を実現するためには,多数の参加者を集める事が重要である.しかし,既存の VC システムでは,参加に際して専用ソフトウェアのインストール等の手間がかかり,参加の障害となっている.そこで本研究では,参加者が Web ブラウザで指定の URL にアクセスするだけで即座に VC に参加することができるような,Web ベースの VC プラットフォームを提案する.提案するプラットフォームでは,PNaCl 等の LLVM 技術を用いることで,C/C++ で記述された計算問題を Web アプリ化し,ブラウザ上で高速に実行することができる.性能評価として,PNaCl を用いて姫野ベンチマークを Web アプリ化した場合,ネィティブアプリと同等の実行性能を実現できることを確認した.In Volunteer Computing (VC) systems, volunteer participants can contribute their idle computing resources by computing a piece of the computation (job) in their idle time. In existing VC systems, participants must put an extra effort, e.g. installing a dedicated software to their computers and register their personal E-mail addresses, which will be barriers to join as a participant. This paper proposes a web-based VC platform, in which participants can join to VC system by just accessing a specified URL with Web browsers. By using LLVM techniques such as PNaCL, VC jobs become convertible as fast-acting Web applications. As the results of our experiments based on Himeno Benchmark, we show that the performance of PNaCl codes on a web browser is equivalent of native one.

This study presents a new model of psychological processes to predict English communication behaviors of Japanese high school students. Various models have been proposed in Japan, based mainly on Canadian models, to predict second-language communication behaviors. This study shows problems with the previous models in Japan and introduces a new model from the perspective of “Expectancy-Value Theory”. Questionnaire Survey 1 compared the previous model and the modified models which suggested that a new psychological variable, “Value in English Communication”, was necessary to construct the new model. In Survey 2, the new model was further modified by incorporating into it various English learning values which the Japanese have. This study makes a significant contribution to studies and practices of teaching English as a foreign language in Japan.

本研究は, 教職志望学生の授業観察力の育成法として, 「グループディスカッション」「モデリング」の効果を学生の実習経験の有無に着目しながら検討することであった。そのため, 122名(2年生55名, 3年生67名)を対象にポスト調査での授業観察力が条件間でどのように異なるかを検討した。その結果, (1) 実習経験の有無にかかわらず, 「モデリング」を行うことが授業観察力の「問題指摘数」の側面を向上させること, (2) 実習経験の無い2年生において, 「基本的な教師の指導技術」に関する問題指摘数の向上に「グループディスカッション」「モデリング」の効果が部分的にあること, (3) 授業観察力の「代案生起数」の側面には「グループディスカッション」「モデリング」共に介入の効果が見られないこと, が主に明らかになった。

A variety of satellite missions are carried out every year. Most of the satellites yield big data, and high-performance data processing technologies are expected. We have been developing a cloud system (the NICT Science Cloud) for big data analyses of Earth and Space observations via spacecraft. In the present study, we propose a new technique to process big data considering the fact that high-speed I/O (data file read and write) is important compared with data processing speed. We adopt a task scheduler, the Pwrake, for easy development and management of parallel data processing. Using a set of long-time scientific satellite observation data (GEOTAIL satellite), we examine the performance of the system on the NICT Science Cloud. We successfully archived high-speed data processing more than 100 times faster than those on traditional data processing environments.
