Objective Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are widely used as the mainstay of treatment for erosive reflux esophagitis, based on the excellent results obtained in clinical trials. However, the endoscopic remission rates in patients treated with PPIs in actual clinical settings have not been fully assessed. We conducted a nationwide survey to evaluate the effectiveness of PPIs based on endoscopic findings in real-world clinical settings. Methods This was a multicenter retrospective study conducted among 41 Japanese institutions. Endoscopic findings before and after PPI therapy were collected from the medical records of patients diagnosed with Los Angeles grade A-D reflux esophagitis who had been treated with a PPI for at least eight weeks before undergoing a second endoscopy. The remission rates of erosive esophagitis, defined as the percentage of patients with grade N or M findings following PPI therapy, were calculated. Results Data for 541 patients were analyzed. At first endoscopy, 45.5%, 30.3%, 15.9% and 8.3% of patients were diagnosed with grade A, B, C and D esophagitis, respectively. The mean duration of PPI therapy was 410 days, and the mean remission rate was 61.6%. The remission rate was significantly lower in the patients with more severe erosive esophagitis based on the LA grade before PPI therapy. Conclusion This study revealed that approximately 40% of the patients did not achieve remission of erosive esophagitis following PPI therapy for a mean of 1.1 years. This suggests the necessity of providing careful follow-up using periodic endoscopy and appropriately selecting PPI therapy.

紀伊半島は,自然信仰の歴史的な価値を持つだけでなく,その特有の地形および気候,植生などの自然環境にも大きな特徴を持つ地域である.和歌山大学は,様々な紀伊半島に関する知的資産を有しており,情報通信技術とこれらの知的資産を有機的に結びつけた積極的な活用が求められている.そこで,本研究ではこれらの知的資産を最大限活用することを目指し,デジタル和歌山プロジェクトを立ち上げた.我々は,デジタルアーカイブの (1) 構築,(2) 収集支援,(3) 利用促進の 3 つの課題を設定し,それぞれの視点から紀伊半島における文化的,歴史的,地理的なデジタルアーカイブの構築および整理,収集を進め,地域の特徴に適した観光利用,教育利用の可能なシステムおよびサービスの実現を目指す.Kii Peninsula has historical worth of natural faith. Furthermore, it is an area with the large features, such as the characteristic geographical feature and climate, vegetation, and natural environment. Wakayama University has an intellectual asset about various Kii Peninsula. We will connect these intellectual assets using information and communication technology organically. We launched a new research project, named Digital Wakayama Project. Our research aims at utilizing these intellectual assets to the utmost. We focus attention on three challenges: (1) construction of digital archives, (2) collection support of digital archives, and (3) promotion of utilization of digital archives. We will perform the cultural, historical, and geographical construction of digital archives and arrangement in Kii Peninsula, and collection from each viewpoint. Furthermore, we aim at realization of the system and service suitable for the feature of the area in that sightseeing use and educational use.

五重塔が見たところ細長いのに拘らず耐震性があるために以前から多くの人の注意をひいた.例へば大森博士の數多くの振動測定や武藤博士の推論などはそのあらはれであるとしてもよい.耐震性のある理由として或人は心柱が振子の作用と鉛直壓力とを與へるからであるといひ,他の人はその構造上から材料を破壊しないけれども構造や基礎の振動減衰摩擦が多いからであるとしてゐるが,何れも研究して見れば見る程これ等の特異性がわからなくなるものである.

There has been many problems in situations surrounding children such as child neglect, deterioration in the quality of play, etc. We believe that robotic playmates would greatly help to solve these problems. In this paper we propose a playmate robot system that can play with a child. Unlike many therapeutic service robots, our proposed playmate system is implemented as a functionality of the domestic service robot with a high degree-of-freedom. This means that the robot can play with children at a high level, i.e., beyond a therapeutic effect, using its physical features. To sustain the player's interest in the system, we also propose an action selection strategy based on a transition model of the child's mental state. The robot can estimate the child's state and select an appropriate action in the course of play. Part of the proposed algorithms was implemented on a real robot platform, and experiments were carried out to design and evaluate the proposed system.

In this paper, we propose a model-based alignment system using evolutionary computation and particle filter for augmented reality (AR). AR is a technique to overlay useful virtual information on the real world. To realize the AR, alignment between real space and virtual space is a serious problem. In particular, an initial frame alignment for real-time tracking is needed in the prior knowledge based alignment. Therefore, we propose an alignment method using evolutionary computation for the initial frame alignment. In this paper, we use the multiple evolutionary computation methods for designing an effective method of alignment system. Moreover, we conduct tracking of the alignment target using particle filter based on the initial frame alignment results. By using this system, a model-based alignment can be conducted in a non-messy place such as being hard to acquire many feature points.
