本研究は, 入眠期における脳波, 眼球運動, 行動指標, 主観的睡眠体験を測定し, これらの時間特性及び各指標間の対応関係を検討した.被験者には言語刺激 (羊が1匹-700匹) を提示し, 内容 (羊の数) を記憶させながらボタン押しを行わせて昼間睡眠を取らせた.覚醒後に記憶していた羊の数を再生させた.本研究では, 被験者が初めて再生を失敗した時点を主観的睡眠体験の発生時点とした.α%, SEM<SUB>s</SUB>出現数, 運動反応率及び反応時間を測定し分析の対象とした.その結果, α%と運動反応率の間に正の相関, 運動反応率と反応時間, およびα%と反応時間の間に負の相関が認められた.また, α%と運動反応率は主観的睡眠体験の発生後に顕著な低下を示した.これらの結果は, 入眠期における脳波と行動指標が主観的睡眠体験と強く相関しながら変動することを示している.

Objective: Some Japanese smokers imported Japanese cigarette brands from other Asian countries for personal use because of the increase in tobacco tax in 2010, which meant that privately importing the cigarettes was cheaper than purchasing them in Japan. We assumed that the health hazards of locally made cigarettes were different from those of privately imported cigarettes, despite the brands being the same. In this study, we carried out a comparative toxicological analysis of domestic and privately imported cigarettes. Methods: Privately imported cigarettes of five brands and domestic cigarettes of the brand named “MILD SEVEN ORIGINAL” were selected for the study. The level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in mainstream smoke was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography using fluorescence detection. The mutagenicity of mainstream smoke was assessed using the Salmonella typhimurium strains TA100, TA98, and YG1024 with the metabolic activation system (S9mix) by preincubation assay. The levels of heavy metals in cigarette fillers were determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Results: The level of PAH in the mainstream smoke from the privately imported cigarettes was higher than that in the smoke from the domestic cigarettes. However, the mutagenic activity of the mainstream smoke from the privately imported cigarettes was equivalent to that from the domestic cigarettes. The levels of nickel and cadmium in the fillers of the privately imported cigarettes were higher than those in the domestic cigarettes. Conclusion: The levels of constituents in the fillers and mainstream smoke from the privately imported cigarettes were higher than those in the fillers and mainstream smoke from the domestic cigarettes. The majority of Japanese smokers are unaware of these findings. The guidelines regulating tobacco products recommend that articles 9 and 10 of the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control should be fully implemented in Japan.

Data from gene sequences and morphological structures were collected for the gull feather lice, Saemundssonia lari, Quadraceps punctatus, and Q. ornatus, parasitizing Larus crassirostris and L. schistisagus. Saemundssonia lari was collected from both gull species, and no detectable morphological and genetic differences were found between lice collected from the two different hosts. In contrast, Q. punctatus was only collected from L. crassirostris, whereas Q. ornatus was only collected from L. schistisagus. The two Quadraceps species were genetically highly divergent, and body-size differences corresponding to the gull's body size (Harrison's rule) were also detected between them. Both Quadraceps species were collected from the interbarb of the remex or rectrix, and a match in body size between the louse and the interbarb space may be important in escape from host preening defenses. In contrast, Saemundssonia is a head louse, inhabiting the finer feathers of the head and neck, which the bird cannot preen. A close match to host body size may be less important for lice in the head microhabitat. The differences in the pattern of host-specificity between Saemundssonia and Quadraceps on the two focal host species of this study were probably due to their different microhabitat preferences. More broadly, comparisons of the gene sequences of S. lari and Q. punctatus to those from other gull hosts showed that genetically almost undifferentiated populations of both species were distributed on wide range of gull species. Frequent interspecific hybridization of gulls is one possible factor that may allow these lice to maintain gene flow across multiple host species.

情報通信システムの応答遅延はシステムの使い勝手を悪くする一因である。本研究では、人間の認知・行動特性に注目し、その観点から(1)通信システムの応答遅延の影響を評価する、(2影響を減じる方法を開発することを目的とし、以下の成果を得た。(1)ユーザが気づかない程度の小さな遅延でもユーザの半ば無意識的な学習のパフォーマンスが低下することを示した。(2)遅延により生じた余計な間を小音量の雑音で埋めることにより遅延の影響を減じることができることを示した。(3)映像と音声の非同期が与える影響は、母語の自然発話とその他では大きく特性が異なることを示した。また、 映像と音声の非同期(ずれ)が与える影響の評価は、閾値(ターゲット)付近のずれで測定しないと、順応(なれ)の影響で測定値がずれてしまい、逆に順応の性質を利用すれば非同期の許容限が広がり、遅延量を減らすことができることを示した。

London Borough of Tower Hamlets has successfully renewed local public libraries as Idea Stores. This research focuses on UK library policies, London spatial plan and Tower Hamlets's community plan, and aims to make clear of progress of reorganization of public library in Tower Hamlets, which corresponds to the local problems and needs.<br> It turns out that Tower Hamlets Council relocated the libraries according to the London Plan and local development framework. Besides, it expands library service based on Central Government's library polices as well as Tower Hamlets Community Plan. These policies, especially local government's plan, provide important context for refreshing Tower Hamlets's libraries.

The present study examined the determinants of public trust in railroad companies. The constructs studied were as follows: trust in companies, familiarity toward companies, recognition of company values, perceived frequency of traffic accidents, perceived involuntary risk, perceived function as watchdogs of other institutions, and perception of safety measures. We conducted a survey in the Tokyo Metropolitan area and obtained answers from 1,081 respondents. The postulated model was tested using structural equation modeling procedures. The results indicated that the proposed model fits the data very well. It was shown that perceived function as watchdogs, perception of safety measures, recognition of company values, and familiarity had direct effects on trust.

本研究は,ファッションブランド,メゾン・マルタン・マルジェラについて,ブランド自身はどう考えているのか,雑誌などではどう取り扱われているのか,そして,実際の着用者はどのように見て,着ているのか,この三者の関係性を見ていくものである。調査の結果,メゾンとメディアと着用者の関係については次のことが明らかになった。メゾンは様々なことに挑戦していこうとしており,そこに意味付けをしているのはメディアである。しかし着用者はメディアが作るイメージよりも,服そのものの新しさに驚いたり,楽しんだりして着ているのである。

宇宙エレベータは,海から始まり,空を抜け,宇宙に到達する構造物である.したがって,それは海法,空法及び宇宙法と関わりがある.国連海洋法条約は,しばしば「海の憲法」と呼ばれる.すなわち,その改変は極めて困難であるので,宇宙エレベータの地上基部を海上に設置するのであれば,我々は海洋法条約の枠組みの中で,その許容される条件を追求しなければならない.同様に,空法においては国際民間航空協定(シカゴ条約)の枠組みの中で,そして,宇宙法においては国連宇宙条約の枠組みの中で,宇宙エレベータの許容可能性を追求しなければならない.本稿では,海法,空法,宇宙法における,そうした既存の枠組みの中で宇宙エレベータの設置を考えるとき,どのような問題が発生するかを検討した.
