This paper considers the religious ritual system called the Jili (祭厲) system founded in the early Ming dynasty, and its relationship with Buddhist rituals conducted at Jiangshan (蔣山). Both were rituals conducted for neglected spirits, and were developed and performed from 1368 to 1372. The Jili (祭厲) invoked the content of the Daoist Huang lu zhai (黃籙齋), removing the Daoist priest and taking on the structure of being managed by the Chenghuang shen (城隍神) at the request of regional government officials. The ritual was carried out three times, in 1368, 1369, and 1372. The ritual of 1372 was the largest, and the idea that rituals had already been performed for the neglected spirits at the time of the previous two occasions can be detected. Ming dynasty religious policy was that the Jili (祭厲) was the most fundamental ritual, and institutionalized it as a matter of state policy for regular and nationwide practice. Provisional rituals were conducted in place of it until it could be fully established. After the Jili (祭厲) was established, it was conducted in 1372 as a compilation of the rituals for neglected spirits.

The vibration-based monitoring of flexible civil structures and performance evaluation from this monitoring are reviewed, with an emphasis on research and practice in Japan and the author’s experiences. Some new findings and unexpected vibrations from the monitoring of real bridges and buildings are reported to emphasize the importance of monitoring. Future developments and applications of vibration-based monitoring to civil infrastructure management are also described. Many examples are taken from the author’s past 30 years’ experience of research on bridge dynamics.

交通事故などの外傷後に霧視,羞明,視野狭窄,複視,眩暈を訴える症例がある。近年,その原因の一つとして脳神経外科領域で脳脊髄液減少症が注目されるようになった。今回,脳脊髄液減少症に伴う視覚障害がブラッドパッチ治療により改善した1 例を経験したので報告する。症例は31 歳女性。頭部外傷後に起立性頭痛や霧視感,羞明,視野狭窄など多彩な症状を自覚。治療により霧視感の消失と近見視力の改善を認めた。脳脊髄液減少症の眼科的症状は自律神経の機能障害によって起きている可能性が示唆された。

This article discusses the influence of the suspension of local autonomy by Yuan Shikai (袁世凱) in February 1914, focusing on the irrigation project in Jiangnan (江南). As the summer of that year was marked by drought through Jiangsu (江蘇省) province, an irrigation project involving dredging and so on had to be conducted in both the Jiangnan and Jiangbei (江北) regions. After the suspension of local autonomy, the Jiangnan Irrigation Bureau (Jiangnan Shuili Ju 江南水利局) was established to bring the project into effect, which marks the starting point for this article's examination of local government administration at that time. A part of the research done to date suggests that, after the Third Revolution (第三革命), the provincial assemblies were revived, but local autonomy on the prefectural level was not restored, as the prefectural administrators (xian zhishi 県知事) strengthened their power by continuing to deny local autonomy. However, the author of this article has found that the irrigation project, conducted as one facet of governance at the local level in Jiangnan, were operated as before by the local gentry, in cooperation with authorities such as prefectural administrators and the Jiangnan Irrigation Bureau. In the amidst of political instability after the Xinhai Revolution (辛亥革命), the Beijing (北京) government found itself in fiscal difficulties, and was forced to rely in part on capital funds raised at the local level not only for such public works as the irrigation project, but also for the maintenance of law and order by armed vigilance committees (tuanfang 団防). Consequently, although reforms in legal institutions were carried out from the top down by the central government, public works at the local level still depended as before on local autonomy. In the case of Jiangnan in 1914–15, the importance of the role played by the prefectural gentry in basic echelons of society at the local level continued to be recognized, while the authorities―the prefectural administrators, who had taken on the role of the prefectural administrators in Dynastic China (zhouxian guan 州県官)―were crucial in the affairs of local governance. That being said, after the suspension of local autonomy, the Jiangnan Irrigation Bureau that was established in Suzhou (蘇州) brought together the prefectural gentry. Therefore, although the importance of provincial level administrative offices did increase from that time on, the prefectural gentry still continued to play a very important role in local governance.

これまでに本邦の療養病床を有する病院での薬剤耐性菌の疫学的検討や感染症診療への介入に関する報告はない.今回,療養病床を有する病院における薬剤耐性菌の現状を報告し,感染症診療への介入による診療の質の推移を評価した.介入内容は,グラム染色検査を活用した院内コンサルテーション,勉強会を通じた集団教育等であり,介入前(2015年4月~9月)と介入後(2016年4月~9月)の抗菌薬使用量,主な微生物の薬剤耐性率,血液培養採取状況等を後方視的に比較検討した.介入前後でcefmetazoleの抗菌薬使用密度は2.2倍に増加,meropenemのそれは30%減少,levofloxacinのそれは46%減少した.大腸菌のキノロン耐性率,大腸菌におけるESBL産生菌の割合は,それぞれ介入前後で71%から65%,68%から68%に推移した.新入院1000人当たりの血液培養採取セット数は,介入前後で281と859であった.当院では大腸菌におけるESBL産生大腸菌の分離頻度が68%と極めて高く,高度に蔓延していた.また,広域抗菌薬使用量が減少したのは,医師数が少なく勉強会で全医師に効率のよい情報共有が可能であったことが原因として挙げられる.加えて,担当医師が自らグラム染色検査を行い原因微生物を推定したことで初療時から狭域抗菌薬が選択された可能性がある.

da Vinciサージカルシステムによるロボット支援下甲状腺手術は,機器の持つ極めて高い利便性,安定性により内視鏡下甲状腺手術を応用発展させた術式である。内視鏡手術の欠点を克服し,安全性が高く確実な方法である。前頸部に創部を作らず腋窩から手術を行うため,術後の整容面で優位性がある。ロボット支援下手術の概要と利点,問題点を概説する。

    The Secret of Kells(Brendan to Kells no himitsu), set in medieval Irish monastery of Kells, was released in all parts of Japan in 2017. The Book of Kells is relatively famous and popular among Japanese people who are interested in Irish culture, Irish literature and Irish history. Most of them recognize this illuminated manuscript as a masterpiece of Celtic arts. I doubt the reliability of the concept of Celts or Celtic in pre-modern Irish history. I do not consider that it is suitable to use the term Celts or Celtic in medieval Irish history and culture. This paper introduces recent studies of the Iron Age British archaeology, DNA researches of British people and the Book of Kells and prompts to reconsider about Celts.

チェコビールのバドワイザーとアメリカビールのバドワイザーは, ブランドの正統性を争って世界各地で商標権裁判を展開しているが, このバドワイザー商標紛争は, 問題化してから百年を超える超長期の商標紛争である。これほど長期化した原因には, チェコが長らくオーストリア及びドイツの支配下でドイツ語の使用を強制され, 戦後解放されるや今度は社会主義化されて, 欧米市場を閑ざされていたという屈折した歴史的事情がある。ブランドの正統性が何れにあるかの判断は各国で分かれている。本稿は紛争の歴史的経緯を概観し, その争点を日本の裁判所の判決録によって明らかにし, さらに今後の解決可能性を展望するものである。 (英文) Budweiser of the Czech Republic and that of the U.S. are both fighting trademark disputes in countries all over the world. The long-running dispute has been going on over a hundred years; however, it is coming close to the last stage. The reason why it has lasted so long is the special historical conditions of the Czech Republic, which was once under the imperial control of Austria, Germany and forced to use the German language. Furthermore, after the war, the Czech Republic became a socialist republic. Judgments on brand priority are separately decided in each country. In this article, the author reviews the historical progress of this dispute, confirms the judgment of Japanese court concerning this case, and predicts the future outcome.

近年,Squeak eToys は論理的な思考と問題解決能力を育むことを目的とした教育に用いられてきた子どもが直感的にプログラミングを学ぶことができる Squeak eToys は,多くのワークショップや教育現場などで利用され,全国的な広がりを見せている。しかし, Squeak eToys を学校教育の救科の単元に導入するには教員にもある程度のプログラミング技術が要求される.そこで,本研究ではスクリプティング不要で簡単に作れる 「教具」 としての Squeak eToys の使い方を提案する.In recent years, Squeak eToys has been used for education aimed at bringing up logical thinking skill and problem solving. The Squeak eToys by which children can learn program ming is used in many workshops of educational fields. It requires, however, school teacher programming skills to introduce Squeak eToys into subject of the school education. In this paper, we suggest the Squeak eToys as a teaching tool may give a more effective environment than ever.

The issue of anti-intellectualism has been widely discussed in Japan for the last few years, but only a cursory glance has been given to Richard Hofstadter in this debate. This relative neglect is regrettable not just because this American historian is the author of Anti-Intellectualism in American Life(1963)but also because his intellectual life itself was a struggle against what he called anti-intellectualism in America. The purpose of this paper is to fill this gap; it also aims to induce Japanese intellectuals to discuss further about their own roles in the future of the Japanese society. This paper focuses on Hofstadter's scholarly life in mid-twentieth century America. His intellectual career had been guided by his strong sense of duty as an intellectual, which he acquired when he was still a junior scholar. In Hofstadter's belief the duty of intellectuals lies in resisting any social, political, and cultural forcethat coerces conformism, and also in defending the plurality of society. Anti-Intellectualism is surely his most important contribution in this regard, but this sense of mission also underlies in his other works.
