The preceeding experiment showed an impossibility of determination of the velocity of thermal decomposition of acetone and ketene by the static method. Therefore, the thermal decomposition reaction of acetone with addition of a small amount of carbon disulfide was carried out by passing through two kinds of chromium nickel steel (25: 20) reaction tubes with internal diameters 25 mm. and 4 mm. It was discovered that the rate of reaciton of acetone was equal to rate of formation of methane, square of the rate of methane formation was equal to rate of formation of carbon monoxide, and the value obtained by substracting the rate of formation of carbon monoxide from the rate of formation of methane, and the rate of formation of ketene. respectively, was approximately equal. The result indicated that acetone was decomposed into ketene and methane without dehydrogenating reaction, and the ketene was further decomposed into carbon monoxide and other substances. An apparent thermal decomposition of acetone is the first order reaction. The total activation energy for thermal decomposition of acetone was 63 kcal/mole. The velocity constant of thermal decomposition of ketene was twice as much greater than that of acetone and it was assumed that the total activation energy the same as that of acetone, if it was assumed that the themal decompsition of ketene was the first order. There was mutual quantitative relation in the formed gases and the determination of either of methane or carbon monoxide in waste gas gives an information on the rate of reaction of acetone and the yield of ketene.

The purpose of this study is to logically clarify radical elements in Nature Schools to further clarify the significance of Nature Schools in building a sustainable society. Nature Schools solve regional social problems using experiencing nature as a tool. However, so far experiencing nature has been thought of as difficult to change social structure.  This paper investigates the relationship between people and nature in Nature Schools, taking a cue from Vandana Shiva's criticism of modern science. As a result, this study showed that the relationship between people and nature constructed by Nature Schools is fundamentally different from the relationship between people and nature in modern times.  That is to say, by experiencing nature, people can build a friendly relationship with nature and experience nature comprehensively. Nature is never decisively destroyed through nature experiencing activities. This kind of alternative relationship between people and nature that is created through experiencing nature is a radical element of Nature Schools. Moreover, the Nature School movement contains the element "sharing and diversity," and this can be valued as a radical element as well.

The patient was a 56-year-old man who had been exposed to the atomic bomb within 1km from the hypocenter when he was 22 years old in Hiroshima in 1945. After the expsure, general malaise and nausea were observed for three months. In 1970, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) (diffuse, histiocytic) of the cervical lymph node (Stage I) occurred. Radical operation was performed and followed by the radiotherapy (6,000 rad, 200 KV X-ray) for five weeks. Thereafter, the patient had been asymptomatic and hematologically normal except that the radiotherapy (7,000 rad, cobalt-60) was delivered again for a right axillary mass lesion which occurred in 1975. In 1979, however, he was readmitted due to increasing general malaise and anemia. On admission, the hemoglobin was 5.9g/100ml, the platelet count 3.3×104/cmm, and leukocyte count 4,100/cmm with 6% blastoid cells and 43% monocytoid cells. The bone marrow aspirate yielded 39.8% blasts and 16.6% monocytoid cells, which were stained for both non-specific esterase (31%) and naphthol AS-D chloroacetate esterase (45%). Serum lysozyme was slightly elvated. From these data the diagnosis of acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AMMoL) was made.This is a very rare case of an atomic bomb survivor in whom NHL and AMMoL occurred 25 and 34 years later, respectively. On the genesis of these hemopoietic neoplasms, the influence of the exposure to the atomic bomb and/or radiation therapy are presumed.

This paper examines roles of welfare facilities and urban infrastructures in modern day Muroran which developed by The Japan Steel Works and Nippon Steel Corporation. Each facility had given to inhabitants who had lived in company housing convenient as urban residents in local city. But general public could not get convenience of not necessarily by those facilities. Because each facility limited users by class in each company. Hospital and theater have been released to general public, but purchase and clubhouse were isolated from general. There was a difference in a spatial spread as corporate town and use actual condition. It is important when such difference examines formation of corporate town.

There are two purposes of this paper. The first is a transition of expansion of corporate towns, developed by steel industry companies. Another one is site plan of welfare facilities. At development, about end of Meiji era, corporate towns took position that surround factories. Expansion period, since 1934 when established of Nippon Steel Corporation, each corporate towns becomes independent of the factory by corporate policy. It had developed basement of east area in Muroran, and influence of urban planning was a little. In each corporate town, facilities site orderly with a trunk road and daily life facilities located central of those area. The grade of company's house is high above in the sloping land. A living environment of staff district, high, dry and good view, looks like a suburbs around major cities developed by private railway company and realty company. Development of corporate town in Muroran is a base of present residential quarter and urban area.

Currently, there are five anti-Alzheimer's disease drugs approved. These are tacrine, donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, and memantine. The mechanism of the first four drugs is acetylcholinesterase inhibition, while memantine is an NMDA-receptor antagonist. However, these drugs do not cure Alzheimer's, but are only symptomatic treatments. Therefore, a cure for Alzheimer's disease is truly needed. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by cognitive deficits. The cause of the disease is not well understood, but research indicates that the aggregation of β-amyloid is the fundamental cause. This theory suggests that β-amyloid aggregation causes neurotoxicity. Therefore, development of the next anti-Alzheimer's disease drug is based on the β-amyloid theory. We are now studying natural products, such as mulberry leaf extracts and curcumin derivatives, as potential cure for Alzheimer's disease. In this report, we describe some data about these natural products and derivatives.

コジマエンレイサウの花瓣はしばしば雄蕋へ變化します。變化の程度は種々で, 最も著しいものは雄蕋と同じ形をとります。變化した花瓣の大部分は, その葯に相當する部分に正常な花粉を作ります。總計136個の花の内の55 (40.4%) はこの變化を示しました。双生花莖に着く花(56.0%) は, 單生花莖に着く花 (31.4%) に較て約2倍の異常花を示します。花瓣の變化は花の大さに無關係に起り, また同一個體でも年により違つた花を開きます。即ち變化の形や程度は遺傳的形質と認められませんが, 變化に對する内的性質はこの植物の遺傳子型に屬するものと考へられます。この植物 (n=15) の染色體組は, 花瓣の無いエンレイサウ (n=10) と花瓣を具へてゐるオホバナノエンレイサウ (n=5) との間の六倍雜種であることを暗示して居ます(未發表)。このことば花瓣の變化と關聯して甚だ興味深い事柄と考へられます。

Lymphocytic adrenal medullitis characterized by inflammation and atrophy in the medulla of the bilateral adrenal glands was observed in an 18-month-old male laboratory beagle dog. It might be that the present lymphocytic adrenal medullitis is an autoimmune-mediated disease as the histological characteristics are consistent with an autoimmune pathogenesis. However, the actual cause remains unclear as the existence of serum autoantibodies against the adrenal medulla could not be confirmed. Although this dog also contracted lymphocytic thyroiditis along with serum thyroglobulin autoantibodies, indicating that the thyroiditis occurred with an autoimmune basis; the relation between the adrenal medullitis and thyroiditis is unknown.

Thirty samples of salted guts produced in Japan and forty six samples of salted guts in Korea were used in this experiment. The results obtained were as follows.1. The mean values of water activity, sodium chloride concentration and viable cell counts of three kinds of salted guts produced in Japan ranged 0.578-0.767,6.46-18.70% and2.985-4.884(log. /g), respectively, while six kinds of samples in Korea ranged 0.528-0.718,8.13-20.87% and 3.311-7.121(log. /g), respectively.2. The detection rate of coliform organisms in salted guts produced in Japan and Korea were 32.4% and 4.3%, respectively.3.Tolerance salt concentration of Bacillus subtilis and Coliform organisms isolated from Korea salted guts was 12-14% and 6-8%, respectively, at the concentration of sodium chloride.

イカ塩辛白作り (1試料) 及び赤作り (2試料, A, B) を試作し, その熟成中のヒスタミン (Hm) 量, Hm生成菌数及びHm分解菌数の消長を調べた. その結果, イカ塩辛熟成中のHm蓄積量は白作りで0.2~5.4mg/100g, 赤作りで0~1.0mg/100gと両者とも微量であった. また, Hm生成菌は赤作りAの熟成7日目にのみ確認されたが, その数も少なく3.0×101/gであった. Hm分解菌については, 白作り及び赤作りAともに熟成初期に確認されたが, その数は102/g程度とHm生成菌と同様に少なかった. Hm生成菌として Acinetobacter をイカ塩辛より分離したが, この細菌は今までにHm生成の報告のないものであった. またこの属の細菌は, イカ塩辛中に存在するHm分解菌としても数多く検出された.

今日では、デジタルサイネージがリアルタイムに地域に適した情報配信が可能で高い広告効果を持つことから注目されている。その仕組みとしてはネットワークにより監視サーバと常時接続されており、各端末へのコンテンツ更新管理を行うというものである。ここで、移動体内にデジタルサイネージを持ちこむことを考える。その場合、監視サーバとサイネージ装置のネットワーク接続が常に確立された状態ではない。そのため、コンテンツ配信が正しく行われない恐れがある。そこで本研究では、この問題の解決のために、安全なコンテンツ配信プロトコルの提案を行っている。現段階ではコンテンツ配信のためのプロトコルの考案、試作が終わった状況である。

BCI (Brain Computer Interface) is a system that controls machines and devices by extracting neural information from human brain activity and inputting it to machines. BCI system can be used to feedback the brain activity level to users so that they can control their brain activity, which is called NFB (Neurofeedback). The NFB system is expected to make better condition for ASD (Autistic spectrum disorder) and ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) patients. The NIRS-NFB system measures the brain activity by using portable NIRS. The measured brain activity can be inputted to various machines and devices (display monitor, toy car and video game). To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed system, we conducted experiments of NFB training for ASD participants. It is shown that more brain activity can be observed after the NFB training for ASD participants. Those results show that the developed system is effective in the NFB training for ASD participants.

進行性筋強直性ジストロフィー(以下MyD)患者にはしばしば糖尿病を合併し,骨格筋におけるインスリン抵抗性の存在が想定されており,インスリン抵抗性改善薬の有用性が期待される.Pioglitazoneによりインスリン必要量を減少しえた糖尿病合併進行性筋強直性ジストロフィーの2症例を経験したので報告する.症例1: 63歳,女性.48歳時MyDと診断.62歳で血糖高値指摘,HbA1c 10.8%でインスリン導入,1日最大54単位必要であったインスリンがpioglitazoneを開始後14単位に減少した.症例2: 50歳,男性.30歳時MyDと診断.39歳で糖尿病指摘.42歳から強化インスリン療法導入.筋力低下により頻回注射困難となるが,pioglitazoneを開始したところ,1日あたりのインスリン量20単位が4単位まで減少した.糖尿病を合併したMyD患者へのpioglitazoneの投与は,インスリン抵抗性改善による血糖降下作用の可能性が示唆され,インスリン投与量の減少から患者の負担の軽減ができると考えられた.

There are various academic associations related to pharmaceutical sciences and technology, most of which are dealing with pharmaceuticals themselves. The focussed areas are to synthesize new chemical entities, to find new pharmacological or therapeutic effects, and to develop new dosage forms. Relatively few researches have been reported on the area of manufacturing process, although there have been various researches and studies have been performed, particularly since the time of introduction of the concept of validation. This would be attributed to the lack of appropriate JOURNAL which enables the active information exchange possible. The journal newly published by Japan PDA would encourage persons who are engaging manufacturing plant, development engineering, quality laboratory and also who are engaging in regulatory inspections. As some examples of subjects which are expected to be contributed to the Japan PDA Journal relating to the future concept of manufacturing plant and manufacturing control, several topics are introduced. In the future manufacturing plant, 1) environment controlled area would become limited area which is as small as necessary, which becomes possible by applying isolator system or barrier system. Even the classification of cleanliness would become different one in future, along with the study of air flow dynamics as well as the application of isolator system. 2) Application of Luciferin-Luciferase-Chemo-luminance, method of microbial control would make the current air borne microbes control method different one and to make more quick in getting result and feed back to the process. 3) Continuous and automatic monitoring of air borne particulate would make more strict control and more quick action possible. 4) Systematic analysis of various data obtained from the monitoring of water would make correlation among various specifications more clear. As the results, continuous automatic in-line monitoring of water system by using conductivity, TOC, pH, and particulate matter might be enough to assure the quality of water, after the accumulation of quality data. As an example, it might be revealed that TOC value of 25 ppb or less shows endotoxin of 0.25 EU/ml or less. UF membrane would be used more frequently, since it endures high pressure steam sterilization. 5) Hydrogen peroxide sterilization would be more frequently be used according to the development and application of gas monitoring system. Submission of such papers and active discussion would make the pharmaceutical industry active and regulatory agencies would be able to have sound scientific basis on each operation.

オーストラリア, ニューサウスウェールズ州のHawkesbury河川水系が同国におけるマハゼの第3番目の産地であることが確認された.採集標本は1984年12月の72個体 (全長38-73mm) と1985年5月の16個体 (全長118-200mm) である.これらの大きさ, 出現時期およびこの水系が港湾でないことから, 既に他所からの侵入定着があり, 水系内に補給源がある可能性が示唆された.

General Artemio Ricarte, “Vibora, ” is said to be one of the most stubborn Filipino heroes in Philippine history. He never swore allegiance to the United States after he was arrested by the American authorities in February 1899 during the Philippine-American War. Most Filipino historians have not paid much attention to his role in Philippine history because some of them are still suspicious of his nationalistic heroism. His collaboration with the Japanese Army during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines still causes doubt as to whether he was nationalistic or not. This paper is trying to discover if his anti-Americanism was still based on his hopes for Philippine independence by examining the time period between 1915 when he made his personal exile to Japan and 1945 when he died in the Philippines.Having read his correspondences written in Tagalog (one of the Filipino languages) with his friend in the Philippines, Jose P. Santos, the distinguished Filipino historian, and having examined his political statements regarding the issue of Philippine independence from 1915 to 1941, the author finds that the “stubborness” in his nationalism against the United States changed noticeably over time. It is observed that it changed with times of persons to whom he talked and met. For example, in 1917 when the Jones Act (Philippine Independence Act) was approved by the US Congress, he became sympathetic to the political scene in the United States and praised the political elites of the Philippines such as Manuel I. Quezon of Sergio Osmeña. However, he again became anti-American when he talked to Japanese officials or Japanese police authorities in Yokohama where he lived at that time. Indeed, he supported the anti-American movement in Luzon led by Benigno Ramos, the so-called “Sakdal Movement” in the nineteen thirties. But, even though Ricarte and Ramos held the same position for “immediate, absolute, and complete” independence of the Philippines, he was nevertheless ultimately a “Quzonista” in the sense that he was never opposed the way in which the independence movement led by the Filipino elites such as Quezon was waged. That is, even though he was originally opposed to the ten-year probational independence term, the so-called Commonwealth, he finally came to accept the Commonwealth idea, and government, led by Quezon.During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, he again became anti-American. He was not satisfied with a principle policy of the Japanese authorities in which most members of the former Philippine Commonwealth government were again put in important positions in the Philippine Executive Commission governed directly by the Japanese Military Administration. This situation awakened his political aspiration of becoming a dictator. With some Filipino collaborators led by Benigno Ramos and Ganap, Ricarte tried to make a coup attempt against the Laurel government in 1943. But he realized that the government was so stable that they could not do anything against its authority.Unlike Benigno Ramos, Ricarte was not aggressive in the movement for Philippine independence, where Ramos still had political aspirations to become the new leader. To the end of the war, he was still not satisfied with the political situation where many, so-called, “pro-American” cabinet memebers occupied the Laurel government. But Ricarte did not like to cooperate with Ramos in, for example, the Makapili movement in 1944. Instead, Ricarte organized his own army, the “Peace Army”, for the defense of the Philippine government against the United States.
