Kampo medicine has a long experience and actual performance over a long period of history. The first oriental medicine was approved by Japanese national health insurance in 1976, and 147 kinds of oriental medicine are currently approved by the National Health Insurance Drug Price. Those of 7 kinds of Kampo medicine were approved by Japan Dental Association of “National Health Insurance Drug Price Standard related with dental treatment” on April 2012. It has been reported that approximately 70 to 80% of doctors has an experience to use oriental medicine in a clinical site. Meanwhile, oriental medicine was used at more than 85% of medical facilities in a survey of Kampo medicine usage at oral surgery clinics in all Japanese Dental University hospital and Medical University hospital. However, only a few Kampo medicine was used at general dental clinics. Establishment of the evidence of oriental medical treatment in dental lesions is one of the solution of popularizing a treatment of Kampo medicine in oral surgery. Hence, efficacy of Kampo medicine which was approved by the new drug standard since 1986 was evaluated from the aspect of Evidence-based medicine(EBM).

ルーテル学院大学図書館では,2011年度に「図書館資料テキストデータ貸出」を開始し,2017年度で7年目となった。その間,様々な利用学生とコミュニケーションを図り,学内の教職員と連携しながらサービスを展開してきた。現在はPDF化や対面朗読,点字図書の借受,テキストデータ作成ワークショップも行っている。今回初めて利用学生に調査を行ったところ,学内と学外サービスを上手く組み合わせて活用していること等が分かり,今後持続的にサービスを行っていくための示唆を得ることができた。

Protection of carbon steel (C-steel) from atmospheric corrosion by TiO2 coating was demonstrated. TiO2 coating, as a non-sacrificial anode, absorbed solar energy and transformed it to electricity so as to provide cathodic protection to the substrate steel. A TiO2-Fe galvanic couple was developed as an ACM (atmospheric corrosion monitor) sensor to evaluate the photoeffect and corrosion behavior of TiO2/C-steel in atmosphere. For the TiO2-Fe couple, type 1 sensor, an anodic output related to the anodic dissolution of the coupled Fe electrode was detected in the dark (night time), whereas in the bright (day time) the output changed from anodic to cathodic. Moreover, the cathodic output remained for a long time after stopping illumination for the multi-layer coating, TiO2 (amorphous)/TiO2 (anatase)/Ti-Fe oxide/α-Fe2O3/C-steel, type 2 sensor. Enviromental conditions in terms of relative humidity, RH, and amount of deposited sea salt, Ws, where 1mm wide Fe coupled to 5mm wide TiO2 could be protected were determined based on the following examinations:a) visual observation for degree of rust developed on the Fe electrodes, for the type 2 sensorb) comparison of corrosion potential of carbon steel with photo potential of TiO2 electrode measured by Kelvin probe, c) polarity of output current for the type 1 sensor.It is concluded that the carbon steel could be protected from atmospheric corrosion by TiO2 coating under conditions of lower amount of deposited sea salt and lower relative humidities.

Electrochemical hydrogen permeation tests of pure Fe sheets rusted by cyclic corrosion test (CCT) and atmospheric exposure were carried out under controlled temperature and humidity to investigate the influence of atmospheric corrosion on the hydrogen entry behavior. The hydrogen entry into the Fe specimens rusted by CCT increased under wet condition, and the hydrogen entry was increased with the CCT cycle number. During drying process after the wetting, hydrogen entry was further enhanced and a peak of hydrogen current was observed. The peak hydrogen permeation current tended to increase with the growth of rust layer, and the peak value of the hydrogen permeation current became remarkably higher than that at the highest humidity when the rust layer was relatively thick. Similar enhancement of hydrogen entry into an outdoor-exposed specimen was also observed during drying. Drying process after CCT resulted in an increase in hydrogen content of 5 mm-thick steel specimens measured by means of thermal desorption analysis, indicating the enhancement of hydrogen entry during drying process and showing a good agreement with the electrochemical hydrogen permeation test results. It is required to take into consideration the enhanced hydrogen entry to estimate concentration of hydrogen from the environment.

本小稿は,19 世紀末から20 世紀初頭の日本における前近代的な手習塾(寺子屋)から近代的な国民教育への移行過程を考察するとともに,その教育の近代化がもたらす教育観の変化について論じるものである。近代において国民教育を行う機関であった学校は,教師が生徒に一斉教授を行う場であった。前近代の手習塾は,教師が生徒に個別教授を行う場であったことを考えると,大きな転換である。近代学校で教壇に立つ教師は,一斉教授を行う方法を心得る存在ゆえ,時代における新しい教師であった。 近代学校で一般化した一斉教授法は,教師による集団としての生徒の同時,同一の行為を強く求める方法であった。換言すれば,生徒の身体の制御と統制を必然とする方法であった。そして,この近代学校を通じて形成される制御と統制に馴染んだ生徒の身体は,人的資本の観点からすれば,労働市場の近代化と技能の標準化にとって有利な条件であった。

Background: Metal exposures could possibly affect allergic responses in pregnant women, although no studies have yet shown a clear relationship between the two, and such exposures might also affect the development of allergic diseases in children.Methods: We investigated the relationship between metal concentrations in whole blood and immunoglobulin E (IgE; total and specific) in 14,408 pregnant women who participated in the Japan Environment and Children’s Study. The subjects submitted self-administered questionnaires, and blood samples were collected from them twice, specifically, during the first trimester and again during the second/third trimester. Concentrations of the metals Cd, Pb, Hg, Se, and Mn, as well as serum total and allergen-specific IgEs for egg white, house dust-mites (HDM), Japanese cedar pollen (JCP), animal dander, and moth, were measured. Allergen-specific IgE(s) were divided based on concentrations <0.35 or ≥0.35 UA/mL, and the metal levels were divided into quartiles.Results: Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that there was a significant negative correlation between HDM- and animal dander-specific IgEs and Hg and Mn concentrations. Conversely, there was a significant positive relationship between JCP-specific IgE and Hg and Se concentrations.Conclusions: Metal exposures may be related to both increases and decreases in allergen-specific IgEs in pregnant women.

Research on documents of cosmetic plastic surgery showed the following results. 1.Golden and silveer ratios were used for cosmetic plastic surgery as beauty standards. 2.The ideal face was a small one with big eyes with double eyelids, a prominent nose, a well-shaped small mouth, and well-shaped eyebrows. Cosmetic plastic surgery was performed in order to repair injuries. 3.The history of cosmetic plastic surgery began in full scale after World War 1. At this time, cosmetic plastic surgery was performed in order to repair soldiers' injuries on their faces and bodies caused by the war. 4.The initial purpose of the performance of cosmetic plastic surgery was for overcoming an inferiority complex. Inmoderndays, however, the popular purposes are for self-satisfaction and getting close to the ideal oneself. 5.The common characteristics of cosmetic plastic surgery were found in four counties surveyed. They were self-satisfaction,a body supported by materials, and evaluation by imaginary people. 6.Cautions with cosmetic plastic surgery included that the image after the surgery should be shared by a doctor, that surgery methods and risks shoud be well understood, and that the information of surgery providers (both the doctor and the hospital) shoud be collected.

心に働きかけることで,人間の暮らしを豊かにするヒューマンエージェントインタラクションの研究が多数行われている.一方で既存の研究は,ユーザーとエージェントとが特定の状況で短時間だけ相互作用することを想定する場面設定が殆どであり,従来のエージェントを長時間使用した際には,かえってユーザーがその存在に飽きてしまったり,“あざとさ”を感じてしまったりするリスクがある.本稿では,五感刺激を組み合わせて空間に提示するシステムとロボットを連動させることで,心に持続的に影響を与える続ける空気感エージェントのデザイン原理とそれに期待される価値についての議論を行う.
