This paper clarifies the relation between what I call “Simplified Ideology” and the formalization of NPO/NGO activities. This “Simplified Ideology” is a simplified form of an existing organizational ideology that NPO/NGO members employ whenever they encounter difficulties on the ground. As a matter of fact, the strict formalization of their activities, however, tends to result in a diminished capacity to answer quickly to the situation at hand. Then, in this paper, I will argue that an accurate use of the “Simplified Ideology” may help prevent such problems. The use of the “Simplified Ideology” may also contribute to the development of NPO/NGO's “creativity”, required to solve problems encountered in the field. In this regard, I analyze the activities of (1) Médecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and (2) the Japan International Volunteer Center (JVC).

Binary codes for a multi-range-resolution radar are proposed. Inverse filters can be then used for a multi-range resolution radar and compress the proposed codes to different pulse widths. These binary codes are compressed to several sub-pulses, only if a matched filter is applied. We describe that the compressed pulses have very small pulse compression losses and side-lobe amplitudes, even though the binary codes are compressed to the pulse width smaller than the reciprocal of the bandwidth of the codes. This fact is confirmed by computer calculations.

This paper outlines the previous studies of many Quaternary gigantic pyroclastic flow deposits widely distributed in Kyushu in terms of Quaternary studies: (1) age, distribution, and source, and (2) influence on the Jomon Culture of Kyushu in the Holocene and on late Pleistocene slope erosion of Yaku and Tane islands.Seven gigantic pyroclastic flows are recognized in the late Pleistocene: Koya (source: Kikai caldera, age: 6, 300yBP), Ito (Aira caldera, 21, 000-22, 000yBP), Aso-4 (Aso caldera, 70, 000yBP), Nagase (Kikai caldera, 75, 000yBP), Ata (Ata caldera, 85, 000yBP), Aso-3 (Aso caldera, 105, 000yBP) and Torihama (Ata caldera, 100, 000-150, 000yBP) pyroclastic flows. Co-ignimbrite ash falls associated with all of them are found in distal areas more than 1, 000km distant from their sources. The ages, estimated by stratigraphic positions of those ash falls as well as radiometric datings, indicate that the eruptions of gigantic pyroclastic flows concentrate in the early stage of the late Pleistocene. Those pyroclastic flows showing circular distribution extend to a distance of 100-150km from the source.In contrast, the age, distribution, and source of middle-early Pleistocene gigantic pyroclastic flows are not sufficiently clarified, except for the Aso-2, Aso-1, Kakuto and Shimokado pyroclastic flows in the late stage of the middle Pleistocene.A clear difference in Jomon pottery between the layer above K-Ah ash associated with Koya pyroclastic flows and that beneath it, is widely recognized in Kyushu, suggesting that Koya pyroclastic flows eruption played an important role in the change in Jomon culture.We can often recognize slope deposits, including blocks of Nagase pyroclastic flows deposits in Yaku and Tane islands. This may suggest that unstable conditions occurred on the slopes over a wide area around the Kikai caldera owing to this eruption.

We conducted experiments to determine the changes in swallowing attributable to differences in the property of the materials to be swallowed. The maximum swallowing capacity for water and 2% Throughsoft STM (an aqueous solution containing a starch power) was always larger by about by 20 ml for water than for 2% Throughsoft STM, though the absolute amount swallowed varied with each individual. On the other hand, the concept of ease in swallowing, presumably involving a light load was advanced in this study. Bolus volume of each swallow during continuous swallowing was close to that of easy swallowing. The volume did not apparently differ from that of water nor that of 2% Throughsoft STM. These results seem to suggest that the root of the tongue judges the property of the material to be swallowed before the completion of the stage II of swallowing, at latest, and actively determines the appropriate amount of material to be swallowed.

現在,糖尿病患者における日々の血糖変動を見る手段として,血糖自己測定(SMBG)が最も普及している.しかし,このSMBGだけでは血糖変動を詳細に捉えることが困難な症例も存在する.この問題を解決すべく,持続血糖モニター(continuous glucose monitoring:以下CGM)が欧米で開発され,すでに臨床応用されている.最新型のCGM機器は,リアルタイムで血糖値並びにそのトレンドを示すことができるので,糖尿病の管理に新たな時代をもたらすことは間違いないと確信している.

筑波大学では、病院との協力でQOLの向上に向けたアートデザイン活動を行っている。本稿では平成25年2月より筑波メディカルセンター病院を対象として実施している「はるまちポケット」という企画について報告する。この企画は、芸術系の学生団体が主体となり、病院外来の待ち合い(時間)をデザインする目的に実施した。5ヶ月の期間を経てリサーチやヒアリングを行い、待ち時間の利用方法について病院スタッフと協議を重ね、企画の実施に至った。待ち時間を有効に活用し、患者とススタッフ間のコミュニケーションの向上を図るため、椅子の背もたれを利用してポケットを設置し、そこにカードを入れた。カードの片面はスタッフ紹介になっており、もう片面は外来に上手にかかるためのメモ欄を設けた。その結果, カードの使用枚数は徐々に増加してきている。まだコミュニケーションに対する効果は不明であるが、患者教育としての効果が期待できると考える。また椅子の背もたれを利用したことで、患者が情報を手に取りやすくなり、情報発信の場として椅子のデザインの可能性もあると考える。

Recently, video footage has been used for motion observation of primary players for sports instruction. In this paper, we analyze motion observation of an expert javelin thrower at several frame rates of attempt movie. We obtained an interview with an expert javelin instructor to investigate the effectiveness of high speed movies on motion observation with frame rates of 30, 60, 120, and 240 fps. As a result, (1) playback times, (2) pause times, (3) fast-forward or rewind times, and (4) playback order were measured. In addition, 57 of the meaningful units for instruction were obtained from the interview analysis. The results also show that the high speed movie is effective for figuring out a player's conscious of bodymotion and setting an agenda to adjust motion in dynamic postures for motor learning. The differences of the tendency of motion observation between each frame rate were also discussed.

This paper derives a new semi closed-form approximation formula for pricing an up-and-out barrier option under a certain type of stochastic volatility model including SABR model by applying a rigorous asymptotic expansion method developed by Kato, Takahashi and Yamada (2012). We also demonstrate the validity of our approximation method through numerical examples.

In this paper, we consider Euler-Maruyama approximations for 1-dimensional stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by rotation invariant (i.e. symmetric) $\alpha$ stable processes and discuss their rate of strong convergence by numerical simulations. We also study the relationship between the convergence rate and the index $\alpha$ of rotation invariant stable process and/or the exponent $\gamma$ of the Hölder continuity of the diffusion coefficient.

Evolutionary Programming (EP) belongs to a class of general optimization algorithms based on the model of natural evolution. EP has also been applied to real-valued function optimization since the early 90's. However, recent research results have proved that EP is not so robust as expected; EP performs very well only when the lower bound of strategy parameters is adjusted to each problem. In order to overcome this difficulty, an extended EP, called Robust EP (REP), is proposed. A major feature of REP is that genetic drift is introduced as another source of changing strategy parameters. Computer simulations are conducted in order to illustrate the robust performance of REP against the lower bound on a set of popular benchmark problems. Some evolutionary characteristics of REP are also clarified by calculating basic statistical values.

LMNtalは階層グラフ書換えに基づく言語モデルであり,リンク構造による接続構造と膜による階層構造の表現・操作機能によって,動的データ構造や多重集合書換えを扱うプログラムを簡潔に記述することができる.LMNtalは書換え規則の適用を単位とする細粒度の並行性をもっており,正しく効率的な実装方式は自明でない.そこで言語処理系をJavaを用いて開発し,効率をできるだけ犠牲にせずに正しく動作する実装方式を確立した.処理系は中間命令列へのコンパイラ,その解釈実行系及びJavaソースへのトランスレータからなり,他言語インタフェースをはじめとするさまざまな有用な機能を備えている.複数の膜を貫くリンク構造を正しくつなぎかえるための処理や,複数の膜にある書換え規則を正しく非同期実行させるための工夫も行っている.本論文では,処理系開発において主要な技術的課題となった階層グラフ構造の保持方法,中間命令体系,安全な非同期実行方式等を中心として,公開中のLMNtal処理系の設計と実装について論じる.

比内鶏集団において、オボアルブミンの新たな変異A1欠損型が発見された。これは、オボアルブミンの基本分子 (A3) に燐酸基を結合する仕組みになんらかの遺伝的変化が生じたことによるものと思われる。A1欠損型の変異の起源ならびにA1欠損型オボアルブミンの形成の仕組みについての考察を行った。
