Atovaquone, an analog of ubiquinone, binds tightly to the ubiquinol oxidation site (Qo site) of parasite cytochrome bc1 complex to inhibit electron transport at concentrations far lower than those at which the mammalian system is affected. The mode of action is thought similar to that of myxothiazol. To treat Pneumocystis jirovecii and Plasmodium falciparum infections, atovaquone has been used worldwide whereas it is unapproved in Japan. Since the pathogenic Candida species fungi seem resistant to atovaquone, this drug is not clinically available for candidosis, particularly deep mycosis. We examined the effects of atovaquone on cellular respiration and in vitro growth of C. albicans to explore a new therapeutic possibility for fungal infections. Atovaquone strongly inhibited glucose-dependent cellular respiration similarly to antimycin A, stigmatellin, and myxothiazol, specific bc1 complex inhibitors. However, atovaquone suppressed glucose-dependent cell growth to a much lesser extent versus the comparator agents. When added alone, lithium exerted slight growth inhibition. The combined addition of lithium with atovaquone showed a significant increase in inhibition of growth. Although the way lithium acts synergistically with atovaquone remains to be elucidated, our results suggest a new therapeutic possibility of this combination for the treatment of candidosis.

透析患者に広く使用されるRenin-Angiotensin系抑制薬 (RASI) のうちAngiotensin変換酵素阻害薬 (ACEI), AT1受容体拮抗薬 (ARB) と生命予後との関連を当院databaseにより検討した. 2006年4月以降databaseに登録された透析患者を対象とした. 対象の傾向スコア (PS) を算出し3群 (ACEI, ARB, 非RASI群) からPS近似例を抽出した. 疾患死をエンドポイントとした3群の生存曲線を作成し比較した. 対象の347例から31組93例が抽出, 3群間に有意差なく4.2年で全死亡30例, 心血管死19例であった. 全死亡はACEI群7例, ARB群14例, 非RASI群9例でACEI群が予後良好であったが心血管死は有意差を認めなかった. 透析患者においてACEIによる全死亡抑制を認めたがARBは予後に影響しなかった. 今後多施設での前向き研究が必要と考えられた.

This paper focuses on the number of domestic livestock kept by nomads in Mongolia. The economic conditions of nomads in Mongolia changed during the transition of a centrally planned economy to a market economy, and as a result of harsh climatic conditions (referred to as Dzud in Mongolian). We have divided the nomads into two categories : Before and after the Dzud. First : From 1991 to 1999, the number of domestic livestock had been increasing along with the increase of family members. During this period, nomads increased the number of their sheep and goats. Second : After the Dzud, it appears that respective farmers had between 51 and 100 livestock and about 65% of the families had less than 100 livestock. A comparison of data in 1999 and 2003, illustrated that in most categories, the nomads reduced in number where the reduction ratio depended on conditions, such as resistive livestock, weak livestock and labor conditions in respective families.

本研究では、幸福概念を思想史的・文化史的な重層性をふまえて考え直すことによって、幸福概念が、第一に、個人の主観的な幸福感には限定されない社会性・集団性を有した倫理的地平において考察されるべきものであることと、第二に、その幸福は、個人の次元を超えた社会的時間性や、ひいては形而上学的な世界の時間性にまで及ぶような多層的な時間論のなかで考えられるべき余地があることが明らかになった。以上の成果は、近年の社会心理学的な幸福論を補完し修正しうる意味を有していると思われる。

The Oki Islands, Shimane Prefecture, are considered the only area which has three-pattern accentuation in Mainland Japan, although it has been reported that several dialects of the Ryukyuan language have three-pattern accentuation. However, I have discovered three-pattern accentuation also exists in the Kokonogi dialect, Fukui Prefecture, which is located east of the Oki Islands. This paper will first describe the accent system of this dialect and verify that the dialect has some of the characteristics peculiar to N-pattern accent systems. However, the dialect does not have consistency of accent pattern in forms of the verb conjugation, something observed in some dialects with an N-pattern accent system. Finally, I will try to give a historical reason for this inconsistency by showing the correspondences between the verbal accentuation of the Kokonogi dialect and those of the Kochi dialect, which retains older accent forms than the Kyoto dialect.

ネットワークエミュレーションでは,実システムから送信されるパケットを実時間以内に処理し,通信相手に届ける必要がある.そのため,処理の高速化のため並列・分散処理が可能なエミュレータが開発されてきた.並列・分散処理が可能なネットワークエミュレータでは,各端末の無線エミュレーションを独立した論理プロセス(LP: Logical Process)として分割し,並列に実行することで,性能の向上を実現している.並列・分散処理を行った場合でも,単一でエミュレーションを行った場合と同じ結果を得るため,LP間で影響のあるイベントの実行時に同期が必要となる.並列・分散エミュレーション環境では,無線LANを用いて通信を行う端末の間でフレーム衝突やMAC層の再送のイベントを実行する際,同期をとらずにそれぞれの受信側で独立して実行した場合,エミュレーション結果が端末間で異なる問題がある.本論文では,端末間(LP間)でのエミュレーション結果が異なる問題を改善するために,フレーム送信端末側で情報を付加し,かつ,1ホップ内の全ての受信端末に対して動作決定の判断に必要な情報を事前に共有させておくことで,受信端末に対してのフレームの同時受信・再送のイベントの同期をとる方式を提案する.ネットワークエミュレータEMANEに提案方式を実装し,評価を行う.

In our hospital, hospital preparations of Azunol Saline Gargle (AS, saline solution containing 0.006% sodium gualenate hydrate), and Azunol Lidocaine Saline Gargle (ALS, AS with lidocaine) are used as a treatment for oral cancer with oral mucositis. However, little is known about the stability and microbiological safety of AS and ALS. In this study, the stability and microbiological safety of AS and ALS were assessed as the pH and the percent of sodium gualenate hydrate remaining in both preparations after exposure to various light and temperature conditions and the colony formation, respectively. As a result, we found that under fluorescent lamp lighting, AS and ALS were stable for 7 days at 4°C compared with 25t or room temperature. Furthermore, by light shielding, they were stable for at least 14 days at 4°C. Bacterial contamination of AS was prevented by preserving at 4°C for 14 days.<BR>We have demonstrated the stability and microbiological safety of AS and ALS and established an appropriate preservation method. This study provides useful information regarding the management of oral mucositis in oral cancer patients.

擬人化音声対話エージェントのツールキット"Galatea"の開発プロジェクトについて報告する.Galateaの主要な機能は音声認識,音声合成,顔画像合成であり,これらの機能を統合して,対話制御の下で動作させるものである.研究のプラットフォームとして利用されることを想定してカスタマイズ可能性を重視した結果,顔画像が容易に交換可能で,音声合成が話者適応可能で,対話制御の記述変更が容易で,更にこれらの機能モジュール自体を別のモジュールに差し替えることが容易であり,かつ処理ハードウェアの個数に柔軟に対処できるなどの特徴を持つシステムとなった.この成果はダウンロード可能となっており,一般に無償使用許諾している.
