Noninvasive risk stratification is important for screening for lethal arrhythmia. We developed a 187-channel signal-averaged vector-projected high-resolution electrocardiograph (187-ch SAVP-ECG) for detecting abnormalities in the spatial location of ventricular high-frequency late potentials (HFLPs) and ventricular repolarization. The subjects consisted of 30 normal controls (CONTROL) and 13 patients with HFLPs (6 with myocardial infarction [MI], 6 with cardiomyopathy, and 1 with Brugada syndrome). The modified X, Y, Z-lead ECG and the synthesized signals from vector-projected 187-channel ECGs were amplified and passed through a digital filter. We calculated the integration of the HFLPs area between QRSend and 30 ms before QRSend. The integrated HFLPs map was superimposed on the corrected recovery time (RTc) and Tpeak-end dispersion maps composed by 187-ch SAVP-ECG. All patients received an examination by 64-channel magnetocardiography (64-ch MCG) on the same day. The spatial distribution of HFLPs by the 187-ch SAVP-ECG map was in agreement with the location of increased RT dispersion in MI. The spatial distribution of HFLPs in DCM demonstrated a wide variety of patterns. Interestingly, the spatial distribution of HFLPs in cases with ARVC was located at around a right ventricular outflow region. The spatial distribution of HFLPs by 187-ch SAVP-ECG was in agreement with those determined by 64-ch MCG. The 187-ch SAVP-ECG might be useful for evaluating the spatial distribution of nonuniform conduction and ventricular repolarization heterogeneity.

[{Cp*Rh(S2C6H4)}2W(CO)2] (Cp*: η5-C5Me5) (1) and [{Cp*Rh(S2C6H4)}(S2C6H4)W(CO)2] (2) were synthesized by the reaction of rhodadithiolene [Cp*Rh(S2C6H4)] with [W(CO)3(py)3], and their crystal structures and physical properties were investigated. The formation mechanism of 2 from 1 was pursued by 1H NMR spectroscopy. 1 reacted with an excess amount of BF3·Et2O to furnish 2, indicating that a Lewis acid assisted the demetalation reaction.

Soybean [Glycine max (L) Merrill] is one of the most important leguminous crops and ranks fourth after to rice, wheat and maize in terms of world crop production. Soybean contains abundant protein and oil, which makes it a major source of nutritious food, livestock feed and industrial products. In Japan, soybean is also an important source of traditional staples such as tofu, natto, miso and soy sauce. The soybean genome was determined in 2010. With its enormous size, physical mapping and genome sequencing are the most effective approaches towards understanding the structure and function of the soybean genome. We constructed bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) libraries from the Japanese soybean cultivar, Enrei. The end-sequences of approximately 100,000 BAC clones were analyzed and used for construction of a BAC-based physical map of the genome. BLAST analysis between Enrei BAC-end sequences and the Williams82 genome was carried out to increase the saturation of the map. This physical map will be used to characterize the genome structure of Japanese soybean cultivars, to develop methods for the isolation of agronomically important genes and to facilitate comparative soybean genome research. The current status of physical mapping of the soybean genome and construction of database are presented.

We examined the effectiveness of removal by angling in order to control the population size of the invasive exotic bluegill in Hananoko Lake, Gifu, Japan. A total of 15, 966 individuals were caught by angling. Estimates based on a mark-recapture method revealed that the population size was reduced from 24, 231 to 10, 092 individuals over 15 months of population control. The change in the size distribution suggested that removal by angling not only reduced the number of potentially mature individuals but also decreased the recruitment of juvenile fish. This evidence indicates that removal by angling could control the population size of the bluegill, although a complete extermination by angling alone may be difficult.

We performed proteomics analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of healthy dogs and dogs with meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology (MUE). By comparing two-dimensional electrophoreses (2DE), an upregulated spot was found in MUE dogs. This protein was identified as a neuron-specific enolase (NSE) by analysis with MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. In comparing dot blots using an antibody against NSE, the NSE levels in the CSF of MUE dogs was significantly higher than that of the controls. NSE is a diagnostic marker of neuroendocrine tumors, brain injury, spinal cord trauma in humans. It seems that the NSE concentration in the CSF is increased by cellular destruction in canine encephalitis. Though elevation of NSE may not be specific in canine encephalitis because NSE level was increased in other CNS disease, further study including the measurement with the serum is necessary.

In this paper, we have proposed a new method of observing walking traces, which can observe people's indoor movement for life-logging. Particularly emphasized new techniques in this paper are methods to detect locations, where walking directions are changed, by analyzing azimuth orientations measured by an orientation sensor of an Android mobile device, and to decide walking traces by a map matching with a vector map. The experimental evaluation has shown that the proposed method can determine the correct paths of walking traces.

Osteoporosis is a serious disease caused by decreased bone mass. There is constant matrix remodeling in bones, by which bone formation is performed by osteoblastic cells, whereas bone resorption is accomplished by osteoclast cells. We investigated the effect of a Japanese apricot (Prunus mume SIBE. et ZUCC.) extract on the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation in pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells. An alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay, cell proliferation assay, alizarin red staining and expression analysis of osteoblastic genes were carried out to assess the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation. The water-soluble fraction of Prunus mume (PWF) increased the ALP activity, cell proliferation and mineralization. The gene expression of osteopontin and bone morphogenetic protein-2, which are markers in the early period of osteoblastic differentiation, were significantly enhanced by the PWF treatment. PWF therefore stimulated the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation of cells and may have potential to prevent osteoporosis.

The small molecule inhibitor, ABT-737, inhibits Bcl-2 that is overexpressed in many tumor cell lines and, in combination with an anticancer drug, can strongly enhance proapoptotic activity. In the present study, we evaluated the inhibitory activity of ABT-737 on the survival of a canine melanoma cell line (MCM-N1). MCM-N1 cell viability was decreased following 24- and 48-hr culture with ABT-737, depending on ABT-737 concentration, while cell viability was unchanged in controls. ABT-737 synergized with carboplatin to promote cell death. Notably, approximately 50% of MCM-N1 cells survived following culture with 2-4 μg/ml of carboplatin; whereas, less than 20% of MCM-N1 cells survived following culture with ABT-737 (1 μM) plus carboplatin (2–10 μg/ml).

In this account we describe ethynylene-conjugated arylethynylanthraquinone (ArAq) and bis(arylethynyl)anthraquinone (Ar2Aq) which possess ferrocene, triarylamine, platinadithiolene complex, p-methoxybenzene, p-methylbenzene, m-methylbenzene, and benzene as electron-donating arenes (Ar), and anthraquinone (Aq) as an electron acceptor. This series of compounds features donor–acceptor (D–A) interactions: (1) Expression of intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) transitions; (2) flexible single crystal networks constructed by intermolecular D–A π–π stacking, which undergo guest-induced reversible crystal-to-crystal transformations. In addition, ArAq and Ar2Aq experience proton-induced cyclization so as to produce pyrylium and dipyrylium salts. These salts feature further expanded π-conjugation and stronger D–A interaction: (1) More red-shifted ICT transitions and narrower HOMO–LUMO gaps; (2) bright fluorescence; (3) valence tautomerism (VT); (4) unique reactivities.

本科研は、短大ファースト・ステージ論の現実的可能性を探り、短大教育の成果(アウトカム)を明らかにすることを目指している。まず、短期大学教育の成果とは、卒業生の多様な活躍の実態と、彼らの短大教育に対する評価であるとの仮説を立てた。この仮説を立証するために、卒業生を対象とした調査を実施し、その分析結果からは、短大教育の長所と短所が読み取れ、また、教育の点検と評価に活用された。本報告書は、「第1部研究の課題と背景」「第2部卒業生調査の分析」「第3部卒業生調査から短大教育の点検、改善へ」で構成されている。(本研究から得られた代表的知見)1.短期大学卒業後の職業や進学キャリアの形成に関する学科や卒年間での相違は顕著であった。卒業生全体では、卒業直後に正規職を得ることや、短大での専攻分野を活かした職業を継続することに困難な状況が見られた。2.卒業生調査の分析では、各短大の教育の点検・評価活動を実りあるものにするために、教育のアウトカム指標に関する7つの標準的な説明モデルを提示し、各短大のアウトカムと、規定要因モデルをもとに各短大で達成しうるアウトカムのレベルとを比較した。(今後の研究課題)1.短大卒業生調査の二次分析(大学・専門学校卒業者との比較などを中心に)2.短大卒業生に対するインタビュー調査の実施3.卒業生の採用先・社会活動状況に関するインタビュー調査の実施

Perovskite-structured solid solutions with compositions of 0.9963{($1-x$)(Bi<sub>1/2</sub>Na<sub>1/2</sub>)TiO<sub>3</sub>--$x$Ba(Cu<sub>1.1/3</sub>Nb<sub>2/3</sub>)O<sub>3</sub>} + 0.0037MnO<sub>2</sub>, with $x = 0{\mbox{--}}0.06$ [abbreviated as ($1-x$)BNT--$x$BCN)], were fabricated by normal sintering, and their structural, and piezo- and ferroelectric properties were investigated in detail. The X-ray diffraction profiles of the ($1-x$)BNT--$x$BCN solid solutions with $x = 0{\mbox{--}}0.06$ suggested that the rhombohedral-tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) in this material system is in the compositional region $x = 0.0425{\mbox{--}}0.0460$. The cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images and selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns of the ($1-x$)BNT--$x$BCN samples with $x = 0.0475$ suggested that the present materials have a modulation structure arranged by a double period along the [111] direction. It is shown that the tetragonal BNT--BCN ($x = 0.0475$) solid solution with a composition of 0.9490BNT$\Cdot$0.0473BCN$\Cdot$0.0037MnO<sub>2</sub>near the MPB has a piezoelectric coefficient ($d_{33}$), a relative permittivity ($\varepsilon_{33}{}^{\text{T}}/\varepsilon_{0}$), and a remanent polarization ($P_{\text{r}}$) of approximately 1.8, 3.2, and 2.8 times larger, respectively, than those of the BNT solid solution without BCN substitution.

Edaravone, a clinical drug used widely for the treatment of acute cerebral infarction, is reported to scavenge free radicals. In the present study, we investigated the radioprotective effect of edaravone on X-ray-induced apoptosis in MOLT-4 cells. Apoptosis was determined by the dye exclusion test, Annexin V binding assay, cleavage of caspase, and DNA fragmentation. We found that edaravone significantly suppressed the X-ray-induced apoptosis. The amount of intracellular ROS production was determined by the chloromethyl-2',7'-dichlorodihydro-fluorescein diacetate system. We found that the intracellular ROS production by X-irradiation was completely suppressed by the addition of edaravone. The accumulation and phosphorylation of p53 and the expression of p21WAF1, a target protein of p53, which were induced by X-irradiation, were also suppressed by adding edaravone. We conclude that the free radical scavenger edaravone suppresses X-ray-induced apoptosis in MOLT-4 cells by inhibiting p53.

Background On October 23, 2004, a major earthquake, which registered 6.8 on the Richter scale, occurred in Niigata Prefecture in Japan. Emotional stress is important as a trigger of transient left ventricular apical ballooning (so-called `Takotsubo' cardiomyopathy), but its incidence and clinical profile immediately after a natural disaster have not been fully elucidated. Methods and Results `Takotsubo' cardiomyopathy was diagnosed in 16 patients (1 man, 15 women, mean age 71.5 years) within 1 month after the earthquake. Of them, 13 (81%) lived in areas where the Japan Meteorological Agency seismic intensity scale registered 6 or above, and 11 (69%) developed symptoms on the day of the earthquake. The incidence of `Takotsubo' cardiomyopathy 1 month after the earthquake was approximately 24-fold higher near the epicenter than that before the earthquake. Conclusion `Takotsubo' cardiomyopathy can occur on the day of the earthquake in elderly women living near the epicenter. (Circ J 2006; 70: 947 - 953)

Thirty-five years have been passing since the outbreak of Kanemi rice oil poisoning, namely, Yusho in the western Japan. However, even now the patients with Yusho have been still suffering from several objective and subjective symptoms. In order to improve or, if possible, to cure the such symptoms, the most important therapeutic treatment is considered to actively excrete the most toxic causative PCDFs/DDs congeners, that is, 2,3,4,7,8-pentachlorodibenzofuran (PenCDF) and 1,2,3,6,7,8-hexachlorodibenzo- p-dioxin (HxCDD) from the bodies of the patients and to reduce their body burdens. In rats, dietary fiber and chlorophyll have been shown to promote the fecal excretion of dioxins and to reduce their levels in rat liver. In this study, we examined whether such kinds of effect were also observed by FBRA, which was the health food and relatively rich with dietary fiber and chlorophyll in nine married Japanese couples. As a result, concentrations of PenCDF and HxCDD on the lip id weight basis in the blood of the FBRA-intake group in which they took 7.0 to 10.5g of FBRA after each meal and three times a day for one year were more lowered than those in the blood of the nonintake group ; Blood levels of PenCDF and HxCDD in the FBRA-intake group were decreased by 30.5 and 33.9%, respectively, and those decreases were 22.0 and 24.5% in the non-intake group. Their total body burdens just before and one year after the study were calculated on the assumptions that the body fat was also contaminated with these congeners at their blood levels on the lipid weight basis and the content of body fat was 20% of the body weight. Then, we computed the average amounts in excretion of PenCDF and HxCDD from the body in both the FBRA-intake and non-intake groups. Consequently, the amounts of excretion of PenCDF and HxCDD in the FBRA-intake group were 2.1 and 1.9 times, respectively, greater than those in the non-intake group. Therefore, FBRA seemed to promote the fecal excretion of PenCDF and HxCDD, the main causative PCDFs/DDs congeners of Yusho, from the human body. We also expect FBRA to reduce th eir body burdens of patients with Yusho and to improve some objective and subjective symptoms of Yusho patients.カネミ油症中毒事件が発生してから35年が経過しようとしているが, 今でも油症患者は種々様々な自覚および他覚症状で苦しんでいる. このような症状を改善し治療するには, その主要な原因物質である2,3,4,7,8一五塩化ダイベンゾフラン(PenCDF)と1,2,3,6,7,8一六塩化ダイオキシン(HxCDD)を積極的に体外へ排泄し, 汚染レベルを低下させることが第一である. この研究では動物実験によりダイオキシン類の体外排泄促進作用の認められている食物繊維と葉緑素を比較的多量に含む栄養補助食品FBRAによるカネミ油症原因物質の体外排泄促進を9組の夫婦の協力により調べた. その結果, 毎食後7~10.5gのFBRAを1日3回1年間摂取することにより, 血液脂質重量当りのPenCDFとHxCDDの濃度が非摂取群よりもそれぞれ8.5%と9.4%低下した. この血液脂質濃度で体脂肪も汚染されており, 体脂肪率を体重の20%と仮定し, 1人当り1年間の体外排泄量を両化学物質について計算した. そうすると, FBRAを摂取することによりPenCDFとHxCDDの排泄量がそれぞれ2.1倍と1.9倍高まることが示された. 以上のような結果より, FBRAは油症原因物質のPenCDFとHxCDDの体外への排泄を促進するので, 油症患者の治療にも有効と考えられた.
