We have been conducting meter-scale rock friction experiments using the large-scale shaking table at NIED since 2012. We have completed 5 series of experiments, each of which included about 20 experiments. One of the purposes of these experiments was to investigate the spatial scaling of the friction since the friction laws we use today were derived from centimeter-scale experiments. Another purpose was to monitor rupture evolution and local stress field using near-fault high-resolution measurements. In this talk, we will showcase some key results derived from our rock friction experiments.Regarding the spatial scaling of friction, we recognized that the local frictional strength was not uniform on the fault and its spatial variation had a significant impact to the macroscopic frictional strength (Yamashita et al., 2015). In addition, the scaling behavior seems different between rock-on rock friction and that with a gouge layer. In the rock-on-rock case, gouge generation changes the strength in space. But if the gouge layer already exists, strength depends on the rearrangements of the gouge particles (Yamashita et al., 2018).Regarding rupture evolution on laboratory fault, we pointed out a previously overlooked difficulty in direct measuring the two-dimensional (2D) evolution of the rupture front. Under very special condition, we could overcome this difficulty by installing 2D strain gauge arrays inside the rock sample. We found that the free surface effects at both edges of the fault had a significant effect on rupture nucleation (Fukuyama et al., 2018). In addition, the strain behavior close to the fault edge might not be the same as that on the fault, even if the sensors were installed within 10 mm away from the fault. Using numerical simulations, we could reproduce the observed strain data by extrapolating a simple friction behavior on the fault surface, suggesting that the way of deriving the friction law needs to be revised (Xu et al., 2019).We also discovered some interesting fault behaviors during our experiments. By changing loading rate or fault surface condition, we could frequently reproduce super shear rupture events in the laboratory, which were thought to be rare in nature. By investigating the cohesive zone length of the rupture front in the supershear regime, we showed that the experimental results could reach a good match with one of the theoretical predictions Fukuyama et al. (2017). Moreover, we observed slow slip events with supersonic propagation velocity during some experiments (Fukuyama et al., 2019), whose interpretation is still underway.The above results bridge the gap between the traditional small-scale lab experiments and the field observations, and can be useful for improving our understandings of fault rheology and earthquake physics.

A 58-year-old female was introduced to our hospital for admission on April 22, 1988, because of high grade fever and agranulocytosis. She had eschers on her left zygomatic region and medial region of the right thigh. The latter lesion was accompanied by cellulitis. Laboratory tests showed her WBC was 600/mm3 and T-Bil was 6.51 mg/dl. By using minocyclin, piperacillin and other drugs, her general condition and laboratory data became better in a few days.Although her skin lesions resembled “Tsutsugamushi disease”, serological tests showed no evidence for Rickettia infection. So we could not rule out that another kind of insect bite may also develop such a severe clinical course. Furthermore, Staphylococcus aureus or Clostridium spp., which were detected in her pus, might have the toxic effects of inducing agranulocytosis, which might mainly be the result from the local WBC emigration, and jaundice, just like the effects of the endotoxin of Gram negative bacteria.

神奈川県三浦半島最南端に位置する城ヶ島は、過去に繰り返し起きた地震で隆起して海岸段丘を形成している。段丘面上には複数のポットホールが見つかる。そのうちの1つについて、1703年元禄関東地震と1923年大正関東地震による地殻変動の記録、および現地調査で得られた穿孔貝の生痕化石の記録から、ポットホールの形成期間を考察した。その結果、対象のポットホールは、元禄関東地震から大正関東地震までの約220年間で形成されたことが明らかになった。

An art appreciation activity that begins from seeing actual works is developed, accompanied by language activities during school education. In this research, how the appreciation activity should be is considered with attention being focused on the beginning of conversations and images based on a practical study. In that regard, the internal transformation and understanding of others within the viewers were taken up as perspectives important for deepening appreciation and handling the quality of appreciation.The deepening of appreciation is accompanied by an international transformation within the viewers. It is important to pay attention to language expressed through the sensitivity of viewers, not simply language skills. In this point, what is important is the standpoint of cognitive linguistics that places emphasis on the side of sensitive language. Having a perspective from which to grasp the generation of cognitive meanings in relation to creativity is considered to lead to the activation of both art appreciation and language activities.During the art appreciation activity, conversation and communication with various works, oneself and other persons are generated. For the establishment of communication with others, the understanding of others is indispensable. In the second half of this study, the purpose of the art appreciation activity concerning the "understanding" of works is discussed.The skills of looking, listening and sensing generally lead to the rich expression of language. Through the enhancement of art appreciation activities, various skills common to various subjects may be developed.

In the current study, we show the anti-oxidative and hypocholesterol effects of aloe vera in the liver. Male specific pathogen-free (SPF) Fischer 344 rats were randomly assigned to one of four groups: Group A (control) was fed test chow without aloe supplementation; Group B was fed a diet containing a 1% (per weight basis) freeze-dried aloe filet; Group C was fed a diet containing a 1% (per weight basis) charcoal-processed, freeze-dried aloe filet; and Group D was fed a diet containing a-charcoal-processed freeze-dried, whole leaf aloe (0.02% per weight basis) in the drinking water. Our results show that a life-long intake of aloe had superior anti-oxidative action against lipid peroxidation in vivo, as indicated by reduced levels of hepatic phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide. Additional anti-oxidative action was evidenced by enhanced superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase activity in groups B and C. Furthermore, our study revealed that hepatic cholesterol significantly increased in the control group during aging in contrast to the aloe-supplemented groups, which showed approximately 30% lower cholesterol levels, thereby an effective hypocholesteremic efficacy. In this report, we suggest that life-long dietary aloe supplementation suppresses free radical-induced oxidative damage and age-related increases in hepatic cholesterol.

症例の概要:症例は35歳の女性.X年6月頃より食事の際に食物が口に入ると左側耳前部,下顎角部から顎下部にかけて刺すような痛みを覚えるようになった.開業歯科医院を受診し顎関節症と診断されスプリント治療を受けたが改善なく,同年10月徳島大学病院高次歯科診療部顎関節症外来を受診した.疼痛は1~数分間持続し特に酸味や濃い味の食物で激痛となった.舌咽神経痛を疑いカルバマゼピンの内服を開始し疼痛の軽減を認めたが消失には至らなかった.その後薬物治療中に手の違和感を訴えたため,血液検査を行ったところ著明な血糖値の上昇を認めた.内分泌内科にて2型糖尿病と診断され,糖尿病治療を受け約1年後には発作性神経痛はほぼ消失した.考察:糖尿病神経障害の一つとしての舌咽神経痛の報告例は少ないが,その特徴として,40歳以下が多いこと,過半数が両側性であることなどが指摘されている.本症例においても年齢が35歳と若年であり,糖尿病治療中に両側性に発作性疼痛を認めたことなど過去の報告例と一致していた.また血糖値をコントロールすることで発作性疼痛が完全に消失したことなどから糖尿病神経障害と確定診断した.結論:糖尿病合併症の一つである舌咽神経痛の一症例を報告した.歯科医師は顎関節部を含む口腔顔面領域の疼痛性疾患の診断に際し糖尿病神経障害にも留意し,現病歴,既往歴,家族歴,心理・社会的要因を含め丁寧な医療面接を心がける重要性が確認された.

Salmon and yellowtail are recognized as special fishes in Niigata, Nagano, and Toyama prefectures. The traditional dish of Shiobiki Sake originated in the Murakami region of Niigata prefecture, and salmon became popular in the Iiyama, Nagano and Saku districts of Nagano prefecture from its fishing in the Chikuma river. On the other hand, yellowtail became popular in the Matsumoto, Suwa, Ina, and Iida districts of Nagano prefecture due to being on the supply route for salted yellowtail from Toyama prefecture. Toyama bay provides good fishing grounds for catching yellowtail in the winter as Kannburi, while Toyama prefecture is recognized for its development of the fishing method, processing technique and distribution of yellowtail.

【目的】本研究の目的は,内側型変形性膝関節症(内側型膝OA)患者を対象に薬物療法等の医学的処置の影響を統計的手法により取り除いたうえで,立ち上がり速度の関連因子を明らかにすることである。【方法】保存的治療中で,上肢支持なしで椅子からの立ち上がりが可能な内側型膝OA患者74名を対象とした。研究デザインは横断研究で,説明変数として膝関節周囲筋の最大等尺性筋力・立ち座り時の疼痛(VAS)と膝関節可動域の計測を行い,目的変数として5回立ち上がりテスト(TST-5)の計測を行った。また,基本属性と医学的属性である障害側(両側性または片側性)・非ステロイド抗炎症薬使用の有無・関節内注射の有無・関節穿刺排液の有無を交絡因子として扱った。統計学的処理は階層的重回帰分析による多変量解析を行った。【結果】TST-5の関連因子は,膝伸展筋力・膝屈曲筋力とVASであり(p < 0.05),これらの因子は基本属性や薬物療法等の医学的処置の影響からも独立していた。【結論】本研究の結果より,内側型膝OA患者の立ち上がりには基本属性や薬物療法等の医学的処置の影響とは独立して,膝伸展筋力・膝屈曲筋力と立ち座り時の疼痛が重要な関連因子であることが示唆された。

レザバーコンピューティングは、高速学習を可能とする機械学習の枠組みの一つである。本研究では、レザバーコンピューティングの数理的解析とレザバーの最適設計を行い、従来の問題点を解決するとともに、新たなモデルを提案して学習の高速化や計算性能向上を実現した。また、物理的レザバーの可能性を広く探究して数理モデリングを行い、その基本特性や基礎的タスクにおける計算性能を明らかにした。

This paper analyzes the "Master Plan of Open Space in Nagoya" which was aimed to establish a green belt in 1940, through its relationship with the geography and the city planning. The plan attempted to preserve the landscape of riversides and hills on the outskirts of Nagoya City and to create center cores on a network of recreation areas connected by hiking courses. Since all of the open spaces were covered with the "Master Plan of Scenic Zone in Nagoya" in 1942, they proved to be conceived as the scattered fragments of a green belt continuously surrounding Nagoya City.
