1874年に翻訳出版された化学入門書『ものわり の はしご』の語彙、特に巻頭の用語解説付録「ことば の さだめ」の見出し項目を分析した。本書は、漢字と漢語を廃し、化学的な現象や物質名を含め、全文を平仮名の和語で訳しており、その語彙分析から主な特徴として次の3点を見出した。(1)和語による造語は、それまでの漢字を用いた造語の流れを汲んでおり、和語でも体系的で簡明な命名が可能である。(2)類義関係にある和語動詞群を使い分けることにより、混同しやすい類似の化学現象を区別して表現できる。(3)漢語よりも和語の方が、現実世界の事象を巧みに言語に写像し命名した例も見られる。つまり本書は、近代の西洋思想を和語で表現し、論旨の通った文章を平仮名で表記できることを、化学の分野で世に示した先駆的実践ということができる。

Discovered in the late-1970s, the pioneering drug ivermectin, a dihydro derivative of avermectin—originating solely from a single microorganism isolated at the Kitasato Intitute, Tokyo, Japan from Japanese soil—has had an immeasurably beneficial impact in improving the lives and welfare of billions of people throughout the world. Originally introduced as a veterinary drug, it kills a wide range of internal and external parasites in commercial livestock and companion animals. It was quickly discovered to be ideal in combating two of the world’s most devastating and disfiguring diseases which have plagued the world’s poor throughout the tropics for centuries. It is now being used free-of-charge as the sole tool in campaigns to eliminate both diseases globally. It has also been used to successfully overcome several other human diseases and new uses for it are continually being found. This paper looks in depth at the events surrounding ivermectin’s passage from being a huge success in Animal Health into its widespread use in humans, a development which has led many to describe it as a “wonder” drug.(Contributed by Satoshi OMURA, M.J.A.)

インターネットコミュニケーションは情報化社会において日々進化している.これらのコミュニケーションの中で,「ネットスラング」と呼ばれるインターネット独自の俗語がしばしば使用されている.本研究では「(笑)」や「w」等,4種類の笑いを表現するネットスラングに着目し,それらの意味用法が同じかどうかを明らかにすることを目的とした.笑いを表現するネットスラングを比較することによって,笑いの種類と笑いの対象が各スラングで異なる傾向があることがわかった.

紹興酒もろみ及び麦麹より分離した発酵性酵母12株の同定試験を行ない, 形態学的性質および生理学的性質の結果よりSacch. cerevisiaeと同定した。また, これら酵母はメレジトーズの資化性 (-), ビオチン欠培地での増殖 (+), イーストサイジンの抵抗性 (-), カリ欠培地での増殖 (+), 高泡形成能 (-), L.caseiによる凝集性 (+Weak), 対5番抗原活性 (-) であり, 本邦の焼酎酵母に類似していた。本研究の遂行にあたり, 試料の提供とともに有意義な御助言を賜わった鈴木明治博士ならびに懇切なる御指導をいただいた竹田正久博士, 中田久保氏に深謝する.

The purposes of this study were to develop the Japanese-version Affective Control Scale (JACS) and to investigate the relationship between fear of emotions and stress responses. In study I, we had 517 undergraduates completed the JACS. Results indicated the JACS had high internal consistency. Also, the subscales of the JACS were substantially intercorrelated. In study II, we had 348 undergraduates completed the questionnaire that assessed fear of emotions, neuroticism, trait meta-mood, and avoidance of negative emotions. Construct validities of the JACS were confirmed based on the correlations of these variables. In Study III, we had 140 undergraduates completed the questionnaire that assessed fear of emotions, coping strategies, and stress responses. As a result, fear of emotions was positively correlated with avoidance and stress responses. Theses results indicate that fear of emotions seem to be the factor linking coping strategies and stress responses. The theoretical and clinical implications of these results were discussed.

In this paper I read the text of Confucian Analects from the viewpoint of "learning". Here, "learning" means the process of understanding something which causes the transformation of the self who understands something. If the process of logical calculation proceeds with the transformation of the self who performs this logical calculation, it is learning. This self-referential dynamical process is the core of the theoretical structure of Confucian Analects.This paper is organized as follows; at first I discuss the concept of knowing (知) and describe the structure of learning in detail. I show that the famous Menoʼs paradox in Platoʼs Meno was solved by Confucius before the birth of Plato.From this perspective, I redefine the major concepts of this text such as 忠(zhong), 信(xin), 恕(shu), 禮(li), 和(he), 同(tong), 君子(junzi), 小人(xiaoren), 仁(ren), etc. Knowing oneʼs own true feeling is the most important thing for a man of virtue. I also discuss a book by Herbert Fingarette on Confucius. In the final section I indicate the similarity between the thoughts of Confucius and M.K. Gandhi.

Generally, when boiling spinach, salt is added to the boiling water. When boiling with about 1% salt water, it is difficult for the composition to change and it is reported that the chlorophyll is also stable. Also, there is a report that there is no difference in the color even if salt is added and boiled.In thisstudy, we examined the influence that the salt content in the boiling hot water exerts on the spinach. Salt at 0.0, 0.25, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0% was added to the boiling water and then its effect evaluated.1) The higher the salt concentration, the stronger the salty taste, the sweetness was difficult for the oxalic acid to decrease and it affected the taste.2) The higher the salt concentration, the softer the spinach. When the concentration was as high as 2.0%, it was too soft and the evaluation was low.3) There was no difference in the color of the boiled spinach for 0-2.0% added salt.4) For the salt concentration in the boiling water of 0.25-0.5% for the evaluation of the taste, the texture was good. Because there was no change in the good special color at 2.0% salt and it was difficult for the oxalic acid to decrease, it tasted bad and it was too soft. When adding no salt to the boiling water, there was no influence on the color, but thes weetness was weak and it was not solid.

愛知県と岐阜県南部の方言には、「大根→ダェーコ」、「古い→フルィー」、「鯉→コェ」、などの母音「アイ、ウイ、オイ」が連続する位置で融合して変母音となる特徴があり、よく知られていたが、現在は急速に消滅しつつある。それらを良好な録音条件で収録し保存し、またその特徴を分析することは、方言という文化遺産を継承するのに重要である。しかし、具体的に音声から特徴を抽出し、詳細に分析した先行研究は見当たらない。そこで本研究では、世代による使用の変化も含め、名古屋弁の変母音の音声特徴を抽出した。よって得られた結果は名古屋弁を具体的に分析したという研究の先駆けとして、利用できるものである。

本研究では,セルフケアにおける洗口液の継続使用に影響する要因を探索するために,新潟大学医歯学総合病院・歯の診療室に歯周基本治療あるいはメインテナンスのために受診した68名の患者を対象として,機械的清掃器具の使用頻度,洗口液の使用経験および使用感に関する質問票調査を行った. 洗口液使用者には,使用理由,期待する性質および選定時に重要視する要素を調査した.使用感は,国内で市販されている四種類の洗口液[コンクールF®(CHG),リステリン®(LF),リステリン®ナチュラルケア(LN),薬用GUM®ナイトケアBF(CP)]の味,刺激,爽快感,効果の実感および全体的な印象について,二重盲検法(LF は単盲検法)により5段階評価を行う形式で調査し,それぞれの評価項目の相関分析を行った. 洗口液の使用経験者は37名(54.4%)であり,洗口液の常用者は18名(26.5%)であった.洗口液選定時に重要視する要素の順位付けには一致性があり,優れた殺菌力,爽快感および味が上位要素であった.使用感調査において,CPおよびCHGの全体的な印象は,LFおよびLNと比較して有意に評価が高かった.LFとLNはすべての評価項目において有意な差は認められなかった。相関分析において,味が最も全体的な印象と相関性が高かった. 洗口液に求められる性質として,殺菌効果だけでなく,継続使用のためには味や爽快感も重要な要素であることが示唆された.

A supersonic free expansion of polyatomic molecules seeded in an inert carrier gas has been regarded as an excellent technique to produce the isolated and ultracold molecules which satisfy the requirements of an ideal spectroscopic sample. The cooling effects in the supersonic molecular beam are briefly summarized. An experiment on aniline with a simple pulsed supersonic nozzle combined with a pulsed tunable UV light source is described as an example of the fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. Recent progress on the optical spectroscopy of polyatomic molecules by use of the seeded supersonic free jets is reviewed from the photochemical and the photohysical point of view. The molecular structures and the dynamical behaviors in the excited states of the stable molecules and the van der Waals complexes are discussed.
