白居易の「日高眠」を表現した詩に注目し、この「日高眠」の詩語は彼が官僚になってから詠まれ始め、官僚世界での昇降に従って、「日高眠」の意味も変り、人生観の変化がよく伺われる。初任官である校書郎の時は閑職で「日高眠」が自然に形成された。しかし、「兼済」の志のため、県尉になってからは「日高眠」する心情が変化した。左拾遺の時、諌言が皇帝に受け入れられず、精神的に疲労して、出勤するより「日高眠」することを望んだ。下邦で三年間は官職から離れ、無駄な「日高眠」をし、無為に過す自分を悲しんだ。この考えを江州まで持ち続けた。香鐘峰の下に草堂を作り、心安らかに「日高眠」し、自己を中心とする閑適思想の人生観が生まれた。この考えは後半生を通して変わることがなかった。晩年の白居易は自由な身分、「日高眠」する安定した精神を求めて、政争から身を避け、「中隠」という人生観を持ちながら官職に勤め、七十一歳で致仕した。その後は出勤するため早起きする必要もなくなり、「日高眠」の詩語も詠まれなくなった。

An automobile simulator experiment was carried out in order to develop a method of prediction of sleepiness based on mainly physiological parameters. Twelve subjects participated in the study. First, criteria variables of sleepiness were investigated since such variables have not been clear in many previous studies. Rated sleepiness based on facial expression was examined as a criteria variable in this research. Rated sleepiness by two examiners gave high correspondence (0.755), and mean correlation coefficient between this rated sleepiness and the subjects' self-rating sleepiness was also high (0.794). These results show that this rated sleepiness is considered to be reliable and valid as a criteria variable. Second, both physiological parameters and the driving performances were adopted as explanatory variables. Cross-correlation analysis between the rated sleepiness and these parameters showed that α/β at posterior-midline (Pz), blink duration, the rate of long blink and heart rate were relevant as general indexes of slepiness. Methods of prediction of sleepiness based on these results are mentioned in our second report.

Shoemaker presented a theory of properties according to which there are no metaphysically possible worlds that are not causally possible, because the causal powers of properties are essential to them. The theory apparently has the consequence that the range of metaphysically possible worlds is considerably narrower than has normally been thought. On closer inspection, however, it seems to leave open the possibility that there are possible worlds with "alien" properties that are not instantiated in the actual world, those properties being governed by laws that do not govern actual world properties. This paper examines whether this possibility is a serious threat to Shoemaker's theory, and concludes that it may indeed be.

In "Visual Attention and the Epistemic Role of Consciousness" (2011), John Campbell defends the claim that consciousness is necessary for visual attention. It has been thought that this claim was incoherent with the cases of blindsight where a subject seemed to attend to an object without having a conscious experience of it. In order to dismiss this objection, Campbell appeals to the Boolean map theory of visual attention, a psychological theory developed by Liqiang Huang and Harold Pashler. On this theory, attention consists of two stages, selection and access. The opponents of Campbell suppose that attention is identical to access. This is the reason why blindsight has been regarded as a counterexample of Campbell's claim, because at least a blindsighted subject has an access to an object. Campbell denies this supposition. He argues that consciousness is not connected to access but to selection. If his arguments are sound, we can interpret that a blindsighted subject does not attend to an object because he does not select it consciously. My aim in this paper is to show that Campbell's arguments for the connection between consciousness and selection are not fully convincing.This conclusion supports a slogan endorsed bysome cognitive scientists and philosophers suchthat consciousness is not required for perceptual reference.

本稿は、安永七(一七七八)年から安政六(一八五九)年までを生きた幕臣筒井政憲に光を当て、幕末期の対外政策論争におけるその役割を考察するとともに、とくに後半において、そこに至る筒井の経験の蓄積を検討の対象とする。 今日、筒井の名が知られるのは、嘉永六(一八五三)年から翌年にわたり日露和親条約交渉にかかわったこと、弘化年間(一八四九年代半ば)に老中阿部正弘の対外顧問的な立場に登用されたこと、また、それ以前に江戸町奉行として高い評判を得たという事績程度であろう。本稿では、安政三(一八五六)年に下田に着任した初代米国総領事ハリスの江戸出府要求が、翌年にかけて幕府の一大議案となった経緯、その中で、幕府の最終的な出府許諾に重大な影響を与えたと考えられる筒井の議論に着目する。そこで示された筒井の論理は、日米関係の開始を、徳川幕府がその歴史を通じて維持してきた日朝関係の延長線上に整理する、すぐれて特異なものであった。 これは筒井が満七十八歳から七十九歳を迎える時期のことであり、長い職業生活の集大成と位置づけることができる。この地点からその人生をたどり直すとき、見えてくるのは、若き日からのさまざまな経験が、筒井という一人の人間の中に豊かに蓄積され、上記のハリス出府問題への態度に結実していく様である。具体的には、昌平坂学問所の優秀な卒業生として、文化八(一八一九)年の朝鮮通信使迎接のため対馬に赴く林大学頭の留守を預かった青年期から、日蘭貿易を拡大し、オランダ商館員らとの交流を深めた長崎奉行時代、そして、新たに「外国」として登場した欧米への対応と、幕末まで継続した朝鮮通信使来聘御用との双方にまたがる、幕府の対外政策形成に深く携わった最終的なキャリアまでを順に取り上げ、ハリス来日の時期に戻ることになる。 筒井の歩みは、「近世日朝関係史」「幕末の対欧米外交史」といった後世の研究上の区分を架橋し、徳川政権下において自然に存在したはずの、国際関係の連続性を体現するものと言うことができよう。

This thesis is a part of research to verify what kind of"media agenda"the Asahi Shimbun newspaper has shown concerning the development and use of nuclear energy in Japan. The target of the analysis was the editorial of the Asahi Shimbun from the days after the war until the end 1970. First, the agenda regarding the development and use of nuclear energy was classified into four categories, and then under each category, the change of value judgments of the Asahi was tracked and put in chronological order. As a result, it became clear that the media agenda of the Asahi had been based on the premise of promoting the use of nuclear energy up until the end of 1970. Especially during the period from the first days of nuclear power plants until the start of its commercial use, almost no critical agenda can be found in the Asahi. And until specific accidents and troubles occurred, the safety of nuclear power plants had been regarded as an"established"matter.

ニュージーランドの特異な女流作家ジャネット・フレームは,20代の大半を精神病院で過ごした。退院後,逃れるようにイギリスに渡り,あしかけ8年滞在して,自己のアイデンティティ追求と作家として自立する道を模索した。フレームの文学は,「狂気体験」を抜きにしては語れない。本論では,フレームが作家として自立のメドを立てるまでを前編とし,帰国後,「狂気」抜きの作家として世に問うた文学の特徴を後編として論じ,今回は紙幅の都合上,前編だけを載せることにした。

本稿では、メディアはことばによって想像の共同体をつくるという「テクスト共同体」(Talbot 1992)の考え方をスポーツ新聞に当てはめて、スポーツ新聞が事実の報道を超えて物語世界を構築していく手法を明らかにする。スポーツ新聞共同体の第一の特徴は、異性愛の男性が明確な階層構造を構成することで男同士の絆を深めている点である。選手と監督、勝者と敗者は極端に対比され、密着した上下関係に位置付けられている。命令形、断定形、男ことばの多用や戦争の比喩も共同体を男性化している。スポーツ新聞の第二の特徴は、その物語化とお笑い化である。出来事や人間関係は、過去から現在の歴史の中に位置づけられて、伝説や物語として描写される。一方で、くだらない語呂合わせやしゃれにあふれている。物語化とお笑い化は、どちらも読者を共同体から分離させることで、スポーツ新聞を、読者が自分のアイデンティティを介在させずに安心して消費できる媒体にしている。
