A new antibiotic, phthoramycin (1; C_<40>H_<68>O_<12>) which exhibits antimicrobial activities against fungi such as the plant pathogen Phytophthora parasitica was isolated from the cultured broth of a strain of Streptomyces sp. The structure and biosynthetic origin of 1 were elucidated by the 2-D NMR spectral experiments of pentaacetylphthoramycin (2) in combination with biosynthetic means using [1-^<13>C]- and [1,2-^<13>C_2]acetate and [1-^<13>C]propionate. From the results of ^<13>C-NMR analysis of labeled compounds (2), it was revealed that the antibiotic contained nine intact acetate and six propionate units as shown in Fig. 2. The biosynthesis of okilactomycin (3), produced by a strain of Streptomyces sp., was also investigated by the feeding experiments of [1-^<13>C]- and [2-^<13>C]acetate, [1-^<13>C]propionate, [U-^<13>C_6]glucose, and L-[Me-^<13>C]methionine. The incorporation of seven intact acetate and four propionate units, a glycerol moiety from glucose, and a methyl group of methionine were observed by the ^<13>C-NMR analysis. The biosynthetic pathway may be unique as shown in Fig. 4 in light of the methyl of methionine incorporated into a methyl group of the antibiotic produced by an actinomycete.

According to previous reports, the aglycone carbons of the 16-membered macrolide antibiotic, magnamycin A, 1 are derived from nine acetates, one propionate and one methionine as shown in Fig. 1. As an application of a recent systematic ^<13>C-NMR study of 16-membered macrolide antibiotic, the validity of these investigation was reexamined on leucomycin A_3 2 which is structurally similar to magnamycin A. It was found that carbons-5, -6, -17 and -18 of leucomycin A_3, 2 were derived from butyrate and carbons-3 and -4 on the aglycone arose from outside of acetate contrary to the proposal in the study on magnamycin biosynthesis. Although the origin of the carbons-3 and -4 is not yet known at present time, this finding let us to investigate the origin for the carbons-3 and -4 of the aglycone of tylosin which has different carbon skeleton from leucomycin or magnamycin (Fig. 3). Consequently, the metabolic origin, acetate, propionate and butyrate was proposed as shown in Fig. 5. The addition of [1-^<13>C]butyrate to a fermentation medium of tylosin showed the enrichment for carbons-3, -7, -11, -13 and -15 of aglycone as like as carbon-5 which is predicted to be enriched by the precursor. On the other hand, carbons-4, -8, -12, -14 and -16 were enriched as like as carbon-19 by [4-^<13>C]2-ethylmalonate. The metabolic pathway is not yet clear, however these precursors are thought to be partially incorporated to the aglycone of tylosin via propionate.

宿主特異的毒素を生成する<i>Alternaria alternata</i>群植物病原菌の病原性発現および分生胞子発芽時の毒素生成に及ぼす化学物質の効果について検討した。ナシ黒斑病菌分生胞子懸濁液に,抗生物質セルレニンまたはメチオニンをそれぞれ20ppm, 100ppm以上の濃度で添加すると,胞子の発芽,付着器形成などは殆んど影響されなかったが,胞子発芽時の宿主特異的毒素(AK-毒素)の生成・放出は著しく抑制された。また二十世紀ナシ葉に対する病原性の低下が観察された。さらに,これらの化学物質は,リンゴ斑点落葉病菌のAM-毒素生成およびイチゴ黒斑病菌のAF-毒素生成も阻害し,両菌の病原性低下を引き起こした。また,KH<sub>2</sub>PO<sub>4</sub>, NH<sub>4</sub>Cl,酵母エキスおよびシステインも,ナシ黒斑病菌の胞子発芽にはほとんど影響することなく胞子発芽時のAK-毒素生成能力および病原性を阻害した。しかし,これらの化学物質の効果は,セルレニンやメチオニンほど顕著ではなく,比較的高濃度処理によって,阻害効果が認められた。以上の結果から,<i>Alternaria alterrata</i>群病原菌の分生胞子懸濁液に,ある種の化学物質を添加することにより,胞子発芽時の宿主特異的毒素生成が阻害され,その結果,病原性の低下が引き起こされるものと考えられ,本群菌の病原性発現における胞子発芽時の宿主特異的毒素の重要性が示唆された。

A series of new antibiotics, Kinamycin A, B, C, and D which are mainly effective against gram-positive bacteria, were extracted with chloroform from the broth filtrate of Streptomyces murayamaensis sp. nov. HATA et OHTANI. Kinamycin C (I), C<SUB>24</SUB>H<SUB>20</SUB>O<SUB>10</SUB>N<SUB>2</SUB>, m/e 496 (M<SUP>+</SUP>), was determined to have an 8-hydroxynaphthoquinone skeleton, nitrile, acetoxyl, and tertiary methyl groups from its ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra, and was further found to have a unique structure of N-C-N from some chemical reactions and X-ray diffraction. Structure relationship among I and other components A, B, and D was assumed to be due to the difference in the number and position of the acetoxyl group from analyses of IR, NMR, and mass spectra of their acetylated compounds. The antimicrobial activity of the four kinamycins increases with the decreasing number of acetoxy group, in the order of kinamycin C, A, D, and B. In addition, some derivatives obtained during structural studies on I were found to have nearly equal or increased antimicrobia1 activity compared with I and kinamycin D (XI).

Leucomycin A<SUB>3</SUB> (I) was oxidized with active manganese dioxide to dehydroleucomycin A<SUB>3</SUB> (II) which was identical with magnamycin B. Acid treatment of I yielded demycarosylleucomycin A<SUB>3</SUB> (VII), which was converted to a triacetate showing mass spectrum M<SUP>+</SUP> (m/e 725), and this observation confirmed the structure of I. The diene system of I was assumed to have a trans-trans configuration on the basis of its NMR spectrum, and a full structure of I was proposed with stereochemistry.

We evaluated the nutrient solutions to establish high-yielding hydroponics of paddy rice. Takatsuji-type and Otsuka-type nutrient solutions which contained NH4-N, were more effective for vigorous growth with satisfactory plant length and tillers in early growth stages. In the case of Hyponica-Si- and Hyponica-type nutrient solutions, early growth was delayed slightly but it restored in the latter growth stages. From July when the NH4-N concentration in the nutrient solution rose, plants grown in Takatsuji-type, Otsuka-type and Kimura-A-type nutrient solutions exhibited yellow-brownish leaf streak symptom with long leaf blades and wide spreading of tillers. The onset of the symptom was related to the low CaO concentration in these nutrient solutions.

This paper presents an effective 3D measurement method from the inside of large structures such as railway vehicles, elevators, and escalators. In our proposed method, images are captured by a moving measurement device, which is composed of a ring laser and a camera, from the inside of the target object. Structures of the target are reconstructed from these images by integrating cross-section shapes, obtained by the light-section method, into unified coordinate by pose changes estimated by Structure from Motion (SfM). We focus on the method to extract information necessary for the light-section method and SfM from the captured images which contain both laser light and texture information. A color filter used in the proposed method enables to extract areas irradiated by the laser for the light-section method. Further, a new block matching technique is introduced to avoid the influence of the laser light, which causes to detect wrong corresponding points. In experiments, we confirmed the validity of the proposed 3D measurement method.

According to the widely accepted correspondence theory of truth, each atomic contingent truth has its own truth-maker, i.e., an entity existing in the world that makes contingent proposition true. And at least for the metaphysical realist, the first and obvious candidates for truth-maker are entities called “facts” or “states of affairs”. These are entities normally designated by expressions like “a's being F” or “the fact that a is F”.Although it seems natural to assume that states of affairs exist, there is a famous objection to this assumption, known as “Bradley's regress”. Roughly put, the objection proceeds as follows. The states of affairs are supposed to be complex entities. However, what accounts for the unity of constituents in the state of affairs, say, Fa? If one appeals to the exemplification relation E to bind the constituents a and F together, the explanatory job is not yet finished. For, in that case, the unity of a, F, and E now raises the same problem. It is no use to add further and further exemplification relations E', E'', E'''..., because each time one adds a new relation, one gets only a new explanatory task, and never the unity of a and F. Thus, since the unity of constituents cannot be accounted for, the assumption that states of affairs exist should be regarded as groundless.Against this objection, F. Orilia replies as follows. Though the regress objection above seems to seriously threaten the assumption that states of affairs exist, in fact it does not. For, the thought that there is an infinite explanatory sequence does not involve any inconsistency. As for myself, I agree with him as far as his last claim is concerned, namely the claim that there is no inconsistency in the idea of infinite explanatory sequence. However, I disagree with him as far as the evaluation of the regress objection is concerned. I claim that the alleged explanatory sequence generated in the regress objection is in fact vacant in its explanatory power, and hence that this objection in any way shows the failure of explanatory task.
