1.コサギEgretta garzettaの非同時孵化に至る過程を明らかにするために,1977年に三重県で調査をおこなった。2.47巣を調査対象とし,特に12巣において48日間の巣を中心とした終日の行動観察をおこなった。3.営巣開始からヒナの巣立ち後までの全繁殖過程を,5つのステージ,すなわちステージ1(造巣期),2(産卵期),3(抱卵期),4(巣内育雛期),5(巣外育雛期)に分けた。4.産卵はほぼ1日半に1卵ずつおこなわれ,一腹産卵数は平均4.86卵(4-7卵)であった。5.抱卵は両性によって初卵産下後ただちに始まり,その後,抱卵率(1日の観察時間に対する抱卵時間の割合)は急激に増加し,通常第2-3卵産下以降に完全抱卵(抱卵率80%以上)になった。また,抱卵日数は平均23.44日であった。6.ヒナの孵化には時間的ずれがみられ,初卵と第2卵ないし第3卵までは孵化のずれは近接し,第3卵ないし第4卵以降,孵化間隔は産卵間隔(およそ1日半)に近づいた。7.完全抱卵になる過程と,各卵の孵化のずれ方がよく平行していることは,卵の本格的な発生が抱卵開始とともに始まり,孵化までに要する時間が抱卵の積算時間によることを強く示唆している。8.以上の結果をもとに,同時孵化と非同時孵化について若干の論議をおこなった。

本研究の目的は, 種々の科学技術及びその産物の社会的受容に共通して重要な要因を, 重回帰分析を用いて探索すること, および種々の科学技術及びその産物を, クラスター分析を用いて特徴の類似した事項同士に分類することであった。調査協力者は埼玉県内の私立大学学部生であり, 男子70名, 女子25名の合計95名が調査に参加した。質問紙の内容は, 14種類の科学技術及びその産物のそれぞれについて, その「必要性」「安心感」「地球環境に対する有益性」「マスコミ報道の好意度」「事業主体に対する信頼性」「社会的受容に対する態度」を尋ねるものであった。そして分析の結果, 「必要性」「地球環境に対する有益性」「事業主体に対する信頼性」の3つの要因を説明変数として, 重回帰式を構成するのが有用であることを見いだした。またクラスター分析により, 各事項を, ポジティブな評価を受けている群か, ネガティブな評価を受けている群かに分類できることが示され, ポジティアな事項の中でも特に「太陽光発電所」が好ましいものとして受け止められ, また逆にネガティブな事項の中でも, 特に「核兵器」が好ましくないものとして受け止められていることが明らかにされた。

This article reviews the recent advances in the intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions of furans, which include the reactions with furan as a diene (type I), furan as a part of diene (type II), and furan as a dienophile (type III). This review involves the analysis of the important controlling factors in these reactions as well as their application to the natural product synthesis.

The aim of this systematic review was to explore studies regarding association between occupational stress and heart rate variability (HRV) during work. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cinahl and PsycINFO for peer-reviewed articles published in English between January 2005 and September 2017. A total of 10 articles met the inclusion criteria. The included articles were analyzed in terms of study design, study population, assessment of occupational stress and HRV, and the study limitations. Among the studies there were cross-sectional (n=9) studies and one longitudinal study design. Sample size varied from 19 to 653 participants and both females and males were included. The most common assessment methods of occupational stress were the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) and the Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI) questionnaire. HRV was assessed using 24 h or longer Holter ECG or HR monitoring and analyzed mostly using standard time-domain and frequency-domain parameters. The main finding was that heightened occupational stress was found associated with lowered HRV, specifically with reduced parasympathetic activation. Reduced parasympathetic activation was seen as decreases in RMSSD and HF power, and increase in LF/HF ratio. The assessment and analysis methods of occupational stress and HRV were diverse.

The Philippines is one of the most disaster-hit countries in the world. Its location in the western North Pacific (WNP) subjects it to numerous tropical cyclones (TC) each year that pose risk to lives, properties and infrastructures. There has been a significant development in the accuracy of TC track forecast that cross and/or make landfall within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) over the years with the use of ground-based synoptic observations, weather radars, and meteorological satellites. However, prediction of TC intensity remains a significant challenge. Lightning activity is an indicator of the dynamics and microphysics in thunderstorms, as well as severe weather phenomena, such as TCs and torrential rainfall among others. Recent studies suggest that lightning activity in tropical cyclones can give predictive information about its intensity development. Thus, a ground-based lightning observation system (V-POTEKA) has been developed, and it has been installed at three stations in the Philippines, Guam, and Palau to continuously monitor lightning activity in the WNP region since September 2017. The V-POTEKA system uses an event-trigger method that detects radio wave pulses from lightning discharges in the very low frequency (VLF) range of 1-50 kHz. It also consists of an automatic weather station (AWS), VLF sensors, and an automatic data-processing unit. The V-POTEKA system analyzes lightning data, extracts pertinent information, i.e., peak amplitude and time of the triggered waveform, and transmits data to a server through 3G communication. A geolocation software using the time-of-arrival method is being developed using the 3 sites along the WNP region. Further analysis will be conducted by incorporating data from other stations (Sapporo, Japan and Los Banos, Philippines), and an improved geolocation software will be used to investigate the relationship between the lightning activity and typhoon intensification during the dropsonde observation campaign conducted in September 2018.

The <i>Kainou-gikai</i>, which was founded in 1875, was the first agricultural society in modern Japan. The periodical bulletin which was published by this society was the <i>Kainou-zappou</i>. This bulletin was the first periodical agricultural bulletin in modern Japan. Therefore, the <i>Kainou-gikai</i> and the <i>Kainou-zappou</i> were very important in the modern history of Japanese agriculture. However, there has been little research about the <i>Kainou-gikai</i> and the <i>Kainou-zappou</i> so far. This study is the first detailed research about the <i>Kainou-gikai</i> and the <i>Kainou-zappou</i>. The aim of this study is to clarify the role the <i>Kainou-gikai</i> and the <i>Kainou-zappou</i> played in the modern history of Japanese agriculture.<br>Most of the members of the <i>Kainou-gikai</i> were bureaucrats of the Department of the Interior or the Ministry of Finance. However, this was not all they had in common. From the last years of the Edo Period to the early stages of the Meiji Era, most of the members in the <i>Kainou-gikai</i> studied western learning or Japanese classical literature. In the early stages of the Meiji Era, they were the educated elite concerned with agriculture. Because there were few people who knew about modern agriculture at that time, their roles in popularizing knowledge about modern agriculture and improving agricultural technology were very important.<br>The <i>Kainou-zappou</i> became the model for the periodical agricultural bulletins which were published after that. Moreover, the meeting which they held in Tokyo in 1876 (<i>Kainou-rinjikai</i>) became the model for the nationwide meeting on agriculture (<i>Noudankai</i>) in 1881.

The earlier part of the personal history of Yoshitami Naruto (1835-1913) has not been clearly known. And in spite of the fact that he made great contributionsto English educational progress in Japan at the beginning of the Meiji era, his achievements are not very well known.<BR>Yoshitami Naruto was born in Awa. Today in Tokushima he has become a legendary person in the story, such as <I>Awa Konjahu Monogatari</I> (阿波今昔物語・1942), <I>Kiko to Itsuwa no Izumi</I> (奇行と逸話の泉・1964), and so on.<BR>This article tries to shed a historic light on the man Yoshitami Naruto and to present the role he played in the modernization of Japan.
