「J・アルフレッド・プルーフロックの恋歌」と「風の夜の狂詩曲」は「ある貴婦人の肖像」、「前奏曲集」とならんでT・S・エリオットの初期詩篇の代表作であり、1911年、パリ遊学中に書き上げられた。本稿では両作品におけるエドガー・アラン・ポオの存在について論じることにする。特に注目するのは「モルグ街の殺人事件」との関係である。 エリオットはパロディやアリュージョンを駆使した特異な文学技法をどこで学んだのか。これはエリオット文学の根本、さらには、モダニズム文学の根本に属する問題であるにもかかわらず、いまだに結論は出ていない。ここにポオがどの程度関与したのか。エリオット研究においてポオの扱いは小さい。ポオ研究の領域ではすでにエリオットの詩論がポオの大きな影響下で書かれたという指摘がなされている。だが、この指摘に対するエリオット専門家の反応は鈍い。詩論ばかりか、エリオットがその特徴的な文学技法をある程度ポオから学んだ可能性が高い。ポオとの関係を探ることで、エリオット文学の核心に迫ることが出来るかもしれない。エリオット研究においてまだほとんど手つかずの問題である。そもそも、小説とエリオットの関係自体がこれまであまり問題になってこなかった。アメリカ文学者との関連についても議論は手薄である。 本稿の分析はあくまでも手始めである。初期詩篇におけるポオの存在を整理し、今後の探求の足がかりにすることが目的である。一部内容の重なる「J・アルフレッド・プルーフロックの恋歌」及び「風の夜の狂詩曲」と主としてポオの「モルグ街の殺人事件」との関連を指摘することになる。この作業にかかる前に、やや詳細にグローバー・スミスの論考を検討する。

It is the well established fact that after the recovery from the typical course of the Tsutsugamushi disease the patients acquire the solid immunity against it which was proved to last at least for a decade or thereover. However, in regard to the aspect of the immunity development in the case in which the disease was suppressed with antibiotics as soon as the specific symptoms became manifest, there remains much to be made clear.The author, in order to make this aspect clear, made some trials on human beings. Namely the patients of general paralysis, which had to receive the fever treatment, were infected with the inoculation of the virus of the Tsutsugamushi disease, Pescadores strain, of certain titer of mouse LD 50, and received the drug therapy with antibiotics to recovery at the various stadium of the disease. The investigation of the immunity development just mentioned was performed upon them. A part of the results obtained is presented preliminary in this paper as the first report. Namely it can be described summarily as follows.1. The experimental minimal infectious dosis (M. I. D) of the virus of the Tsutsugamushi disease to human beings is of approximate value to mouse LD 50 titer of it.2. Below the M. I. D., the virus cannot elicit the immunity development at all in the human body, althogh it had certainly invaded into it.3. The specific symptoms of the disease become just manifest when the invaded virus multiplied somewhere in the body to such an extent to elicit the rickettsiemia of approximately 10-2 LD 50.4. The patient is far more sensitive to the drug therapy with antibiotics at the height of the disease or still later than at the beginning of it.5. The specific reaction of the site of the skin, where the virus had certainly been inoculated, can sometimes be failed, though the inoculated person contracted the disease typically.6. A certain correlation can be observed between the length of duration of the disease and the degree of rise of OXK agglutinin titer.

林木の成長に関する幾つかの経験的知識にもとづいて林分密度の変化や生育期間の経過に伴って林木の成長現象を記述するシステムを成長モデルというが、本稿では、異齢林を対象としたJ.ボンジョルノによる林分成長モデルを使用して、異齢林に関する収穫予定の最適計画策定に関して若干の基礎的考察を加えた。手法的には林分成長モデルと線形計画法による最適化問題との融合であり、異齢林に関する最適収穫の決定問題である。なお次のような問題を残しているが、これらのことは次の研究課題としたい。1)最適計画の策定における目的を収穫量の最大化としたが、割引純利益の最大化を目的とした計画に関する検討、2)回帰年を5年として固定したが、これを変更する場合の検討〔3〕、3)林分成長モデルにおける直径階を6~7程度に増やすことの検討、4)線形計画における感度分析およびジャドウプライスの検討等である。

Recently, sedative and antiphlogistic treatment is conducted with low energy laser irradiation. The purpose of the this study was to evaluate the effectiveness to decrease of pain just after irradiation by a GaAlAs semiconductor laser. The irradiation apparatus was SEMI LASER NANOX (LX-800 : G-C. Co.) with the following features : a wave lengh of (around) 780nm : the laser energy, 30mW ; exposure time, SOsec to ISOsec/ per treatment. Diagnosis of pre-and post-operative sensitivity were classified into the following four grades : Grade 0 no pain. Grade I mild pain. Grade II strong but tolerable pain. Grade III intolerable pain (simultaneous with stimulation). The results were as follows: 1. In the hypersensitivity of dentin, the treatment was not effective with 2 cases of grade III, but with all of grade I , II (35 cases) the pain decreased just after irradiation. 2 . It was effective in all cases with pain like periodontitis after root canal filling and pain after extraction of teeth. 3 . It was effective in all cases with gingivitis, stomatitis, and gingival ulcers after infilttation anesthesia etc..

イチゴ高設栽培の普及にともなって,ポット育苗からトレイ育苗への転換が進んでいる.空中採苗したランナー子株をトレイに挿し苗することによって,省力的な促成栽培用イチゴ苗の育苗が可能であるが,トレイで育苗した苗はポット苗と比較して開花が遅れる株の割合が高くなることが多い.挿し苗育苗した苗はクラウンが深く埋もれることが多いことから,クラウンの深さ,挿し苗時期と苗の大きさがイチゴ‘女峰’の開花に及ぼす影響について検討した.その結果,培地から露出したクラウンより深く埋もれたクラウンの茎頂分裂組織付近の温度が高く,花芽分化が遅れることが明らかになった.また,小さなランナー子株を遅い時期に挿し苗した場合には,特に開花が不揃いになりやすいが,クラウン周辺の培地を取り除いて露出させることによって茎頂分裂組織付近の温度が低下し,開花が早く斉一になった.以上のように,深く埋没したイチゴのクラウン周辺の培地を取り除いて露出させることにより,花芽分化が安定したイチゴのトレイ苗を効率的に生産できることが明らかになった.

The purpose of this paper is to reevaluate the place of Henry Blake Fuller's Bertram Cope's Year (1919) in the critical appraisal. Analysis of the connection between marriage and the erotic triangle as a literary device in the novel will lead us to the reevaluation. This will then be reinforced by an exploration into the hidden tradition of the device. The device was contrived to express covertly but ingeniously the homoerotic desire that still had to be closeted at the time when Fuller published the novel. In order to prove it, the use of such words as "Sappho" and "Urania" is pointed out first. These words can imply homoerotic nuance in the context of the time. Next, we discuss how the narrator/author reinforces this homoerotic implication by adroitly manipulating the contrasts of three triangular relationships with marriage as a literary means to imbue the relationships with eroticism: a young female's desire to idealize and marry the protagonist in a triangle, accordingly, overlaps with a middle-aged widow's erotic desire for him in another triangle, which, in turn, overlaps with a middle-aged bachelor's homoerotic desire for him in still another triangle. Then, the contrast and analogy between the three triangles and other ones are analyzed to show the homoerotic desire hidden in each male character. The "triangular desire" defined by Rene Girard and Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick's theory on homosocial relationship based on Girard's formulation give us the frame to analyze the literary device. However, the function of the triangle in this novel lies neither in the emphasis on rivalry in Girard's triangle nor in the asymmetry of the two sides in a triangle on which Sedgwick insists in her revision of Girard's formulation. It rather lies in the interchangeability or parallelism between the sides of the triangle. The point is that the side between the subject and the object and that between the object and, according to Girard's word, the "mediator" illuminate each other and reveal the hidden desire. In conclusion, Bertram Cope, the protagonist is the mediator who exposes the hidden homoerotic desire of the male characters: this literary device is the author's homoerotic gaze toward the characters and his work. In order to indicate the possibility to trace the hidden tradition, similar connections between marriage and the erotic triangle are briefly discussed in Allan Dale's "A Marriage below Zero" (1889) and Bayard Taylor's "Twin-Love" (1872). Then, finally, it is suggested that Fuller was aware of Henry James's The Bostonians (1886) when he wrote Bertram Cope's Year by pointing out some intertextual evidences, which also suggest the possibility of a homoerotic reading of The Bostonians.

Recently, machine learning has been attracting attention. Machine learning is mainly realized by the learning of artificial neural networks. Various learning methods have been proposed; however, the learning methods are based on gradient methods. On the other hand, swarm intelligence (SI) algorithms have been attracting attention in the optimization field. Generally speaking, SI algorithms have a large computation cost. Therefore, there are few cases of SI algorithms being applied to machine learning. In this paper, we propose a novel learning algorithm for an artificial neural network which applies our proposed nonlinear map optimization (NMO) method. NMO consists of some simple particles which are driven by a simple nonlinear map. NMO can be classified as an SI algorithm. However, it has only a small computation cost. Therefore, NMO can be applied to a learning algorithm for an artificial neural network. In this paper, we introduce NMO, and a small learning simulation is carried out to confirm the performance of our learning method.

現在,音声認識や統計翻訳などの多くの分野では,モデルのパラメータ推定にEM アルゴリズムがよく使われている.EMアルゴリズムは,確率モデルのパラメータを最ゆう法に基づいて推定する反復法の一種である.初期値を与えて,期待値ステップと最大化ステップを交互に繰り返す.音声認識においてはEM アルゴリズムの一つとして,Baum-Welch アルゴリズムがよく利用される.本論文では,このBaum-Welch アルゴリズムのステップバイステップの動作例を示して,このアルゴリズムの動作を説明する.最後にBaum-Welch アルゴリズムの他の分野への応用を紹介する.
