An image database of the Japanese weevils (excluding Scolytidae and Platypodidae), which was awarded the Akitu Prize 2008 by the Entomological Society of Japan, is introduced. The database site consists of the following eight pages: 1) home about the database; 2) comments on weevils; 3) image search; 4) text search; 5) collecting records plotted on Google Maps; 6) checklist; 7) images in nature, and 8) photo collage. The pages 3 to 8 are linked by a relationship with the keyword of the species name. Species information includes scientific and Japanese names, systematic position (family, subfamily, tribe and subtribe), distribution, host or collected plants, body length, synonym, notes, original description, collecting records and images including type specimens.

血液がんの診療を行う施設は限られているため,遠距離を移動しなければならない患者が多い.また,血液がん患者は感染症のリスクが高いため公共交通機関の利用が躊躇される.われわれは血液がん患者の居住地を電子カルテData Warehouseから抽出し,Google Earth ProとBatch Geoを用いて地図上に可視化し運送費用の推計を行った.対象は,帝京大学ちば総合医療センター血液内科に2009年3月から2011年3月までに入院した血液がん患者90名(平均年齢64歳).通院に往復50 km以上の移動を要する患者が33%,100 km以上が7%存在した.さらに往復の運送費用が10,000円を超える患者が全体の47%(平均費用20,957円)にも達すると推計された.

Ⅰ.大地の遺産とは何か 大地の遺産とは、端的にいえば「貴重な土地」のことである。「土地」はそれぞれに環境、景観、文化、社会を持つ。また、「貴重」とは、その対象物(ここでは土地)が希少性、固有性、特異性を持っているということである。地理学の学問性を重んじれば、「貴重」性は、その土地で自然現象と人文現象が同時にみられる、もしくはそれらの相互の関係がみられるということになる(詳しくは、岩田 2012、目代 2011、目代ほか 2010)。 大地の遺産とその百選について地理学者が言及する背景には、地理学の社会的貢献の必要性、より具体的にはジオパークに対する貢献がある。これまでに25のジオパークが日本で設立され、各々の地域では熱心な活動がみられるようになった。地理学者の多くも活動に参画しており、その学術団体として社会的なプレゼンスをより高める必要性がある(目代ほか 2010)。このために、日本地理学会ジオパーク対応委員会(以下対応委員会)が主体となって大地の遺産百選選定の作業を進めている。Ⅱ.アンケート調査(第1回)の結果と考察 対応委員会は2012年の春の大会シンポジウムで大地の遺産百選に関する講演と参加者へのアンケート調査(第1回)を行った。アンケート調査では、21名(無記名含)の会員から計39の候補地があげられた。この数は百選を選ぶ数としてはまだまだ少なく、今後の課題としてより多くの地理学者により多くの候補地を提案していただくことがあげられる。また、推薦された候補地では関東以西、特に九州地方の候補地が多く、今後は、他の地域の候補地の推薦も求められるであろう。 推薦された候補地の空間スケールについて吟味すると、今回のアンケートの結果では、全体の70%以上が市町村レベルの空間スケールから複数県にまたがる空間スケールでの提案となっていた。おそらく、これらの空間スケールを基本に土地の貴重性を求め、大地の遺産百選として選定する事が解り易い空間スケールとみられる。ただし、大地の遺産百選の選定で重要視される根本的な部分は、その空間スケールではなく、冒頭に述べた自然現象と人文現象の関係である。言い換えれば、その候補地で「ひとつの地誌学的なストーリー」が構築できることが重要となる(例えば、大野 2011)。 それでは、その「地誌学的なストーリー」はアンケート調査の結果からも読み取れるであろうか。アンケートで推薦された39の候補地のうち、推薦理由として自然と人文の双方の現象について記述されたものは23ヶ所(59%)であった。このことから、大地の遺産の地誌学的な捉え方はある程度浸透していると考えられる。なお、35(90%)の候補地で地形・地質(自然)の特徴が推薦理由として論じられていた。したがって、推薦された候補地の多くは貴重な地形・地質を基盤とした土地であることがわかる。これはこれまでの対応委員会の発表や議論に類似した結果でもあるが、複合的学問である地理学の性格を考えれば、今後は他の自然現象や人文現象、およびそれらとの関係にも配慮していくことが必要といえる。 アンケート調査の結果をみる限り、対応委員会がこれまでに大地の遺産について発表、議論してきた内容と参加者の推薦する候補地やその考え方に大きな相違点はみられなかった。しかし、このことは、逆にいえば、多くの地理学者は、対応委員会にフォローする形のみで参加していると考えられる。実際に、頻繁に議論へ参加している地理学者は決して多くない。そのため、今後も対応委員会が主体となって、多くの研究者を巻き込む積極的な姿勢が必要であろう。 なお、アンケート調査の結果によれば、大地の遺産の重要な要素と考えられる保全、教育、ツーリズムのいずれかが推薦理由として言及されていた候補地は9ヶ所(23%)と僅かであった。Ⅲ.今後の選定スケジュール 今後のスケジュールとしては、本発表時(3月)に第2回アンケート調査を、地球惑星連合学会(5月)に第3回アンケート調査を行う。ウェブアンケートも2013年1月から実施している(https://sites.google.com/site/ajggeo park/home/annouce/dadenoyichanbaixuananketo)。また、郵送によるアンケート調査も検討中である。アンケート調査後は、対応委員会を中心に候補地リストからの選定を行い、10月の秋季学術大会で大地の遺産百選の発表を目指していく予定である。

Cell Broadband Engine(Cell/B.E.)はコンピュータエンタテインメントシステムであるPLAYSTATIONR3(PS3)のCPUとして知られていますが,CPUの中に9個のヘテロジニアスなプロセッサコアを持ち,Folding@homeなどのための高性能なアクセラレータとしても活用されています.この解説ではCell/B.E.のアーキテクチャ,プログラミングモデル,最適化技法について概要を説明し,Cell/B.E.の性能を引き出す手法を紹介します.また,医療やファイナンスなどの産業アプリケーションにおけるCell/B.E.の有効性と,実際の活用例を紹介します.

This paper investigates a five-week study abroad and homestay program undergone by Showa Women's University(SWU)students from various faculties and years in early 2013 at the Institute of Continuing TESOL Education, University of Queensland(ICTE-UQ), Australia. Prompted by OECD results which showed a trend that Japanese students' interest in study abroad programs is decreasing; research sought to identify from the students who participated in this program their perceived language skill improvement and language contact experiences. Feedback was sourced from a questionnaire administered by Google Forms and student reports submitted to the Centre for International Exchange(CIE). Despite an initial culture shock, and concerns with English proficiency, students developed strategies and drew on unfamiliar support systems to overcome communication issues in their multicultural learning and living environments. From this immersion, positive feedback was received regarding perceived language skill improvement, particularly for listening and speaking. Although questionnaire results do show some dissatisfaction, mainly regarding the population of Japanese students at the language school; overall, these multicultural learning and living environments had a positive effect on students' perceived English language improvement and enhanced their motivation towards communicating in English. These results indicate that short term study abroad is considered beneficial by SWU students for language skill improvement and language contact experiences. Furthermore, this paper argues that such benefits are noteworthy for SWU students in the larger context of Japanese society since English communication strategies will be required for future international events, and due to the recent revitalization of study abroad as part of Japanese education by the Abe Government. Related also is SWU's focus on globalization. Therefore, SWU students who undertake study abroad are expected to have a positive experience in regards to a heightened perception of improved language skills and language contact proficiency, coupled with an international capability.

Traditional autopsy has changed little in the past century. In Japan, the rate of forensic autopsy in cases of unusual death is very low. Therefore, multi-slice computed tomography (CT) has been used to obtain imaging data instead of or in addition to autopsy in suspicious forensic cases. In our institute, postmortem multi-slice CT has been performed since 2009, and by 2014 there were over 1,000 cases. Our extensive experience with postmortem CT shows that in many cases of death by drug overdose, stomach contents exhibit high X-ray absorption. This article reviews the relationship between CT findings of stomach contents and toxicological analysis results in 23 cases of death by drug overdose. All cases (12 females and 11 males, aged 44 ± 11 years) known to have orally ingested drugs were included in this study. We assessed the slices of all stomach areas on consecutive axial CT images. Twenty cases (87%) showed high X-ray absorption in the stomach, while the other three did not demonstrate radio-dense stomach contents even though drug analysis detected lethal concentrations of drugs in the blood. In conclusion, drugs were frequently, but not always, visualized as contents with high X-ray absorption in the stomach. Postmortem gastric CT images can provide useful information in cases of oral drug intoxication if there are empty drug packages or a suicide note at the death scene. However, precise determination of the cause of death requires full autopsy in cases where there is no indication of suicide at the death scene.
