本稿の目的は「地域」の意味を考察することである。この「地域」という概念が多義的であることはこれまでにも議論されてきた。文化人類学の用語を用いれば「地縁集団」に近く、同質性・均質性をその特徴としている。だが都市部における「地域」は、これとはまた異なった様相を呈する。それは匿名的な集団で、成員たちに共通する価値観はない。むしろ見知らぬ者どうしが問題解決的な目的に沿って集合した集団であるともいえる。これらの特徴を齋藤(2000)の議論に沿って整理すれば、前者を「共同体」、後者を「公共圏」と言い換えることができるだろう。そして「地域」をどのように捉えるにせよ、こうした集団から排除される「他者」がいるのもまた事実である。本稿では、刑余者の方々に生活史のインタビューを試みた。彼らは刑期を終え、それまで何の紐帯もない「地域」でいきなり暮らすことを余儀なくされる。また「元犯罪者」というスティグマも抱えて生活しなければならない。それゆえ彼らの多くは地域から排除されており、そのなかでうまく暮らせていないという感情を抱いている。家族とは音信不通で、友人もおらず、孤独を訴える者も少なくない。つまり、その疎外感は「親密圏」が構築できないことに存しているともいえる。こうした一連の考察を踏まえ、「地域」を「社会的なもの(the social)」としてだけではなく、私的・個人的な親密圏という観点から考察する必要性について指摘した。

階層型多層神経回路「ネオコグニトロン」は,高いパターン認識能力を学習によって獲得していく.ここでは,新しい学習法を用いたネオコグニトロンについて論じる.ネオコグニトロンでは,多層回路の中間層で,特徴の抽出と統合を繰り返しながら次第に高次の特徴を抽出していく.中間層の学習にはadd-if-silent則を用いる.最上位層では,抽出された特徴をもとに内挿ベクトル法を用いてパターン識別を行なう.手書き数字認識において,学習パターン数や,内挿ベクトル法に用いる閾値が,ネオコグニトロンの認識率や回路規模(演算コスト)にどのように影響するかを論じる.

南大東島の洞窟地下水においてダイトウコオイエビ Halosbaena daitoensis Shimomura and Fujita, 2009の生息状況と生態に関する研究を行なった.本研究期間中に南大東島の計13箇所の洞窟(16調査地点)の地下水域にて調査を行った結果,5洞窟(計8調査地点)にて本種の生息が確認された.これらの調査地点のうち,本研究で新たにダイトウコオイエビの生息が確認された洞窟地下水は,4洞窟(7調査地点)であり,本種の分布は南大東島の北部と南部の広範囲に点在する洞穴地下水域に及ぶことが明らかとなった.また,ダイトウコオイエビの生態を明らかにするため,2019年12月~2020年11月までの毎月,南大東島北東部に位置する“洞窟A”において採集調査を実施し,当該洞窟において本種の生息が周年確認できることが明らかとなった.しかしながら,本種の抱卵個体を得ることはできず,本種の繁殖生態については未だ不明である.

The number of patients with colitis has been increasing year by year. Recently, intestinal inflammation, as one of the factors for its onset, has been demonstrated to be induced by P2X7 receptor-mediated activation of colonic immune cells such as mast cells. Activation of P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) is known to be inhibited by divalent metal cations such as magnesium, but whether or not magnesium administration prevents/relieves colitis is unknown so far. Here, we report that oral (per os (p.o.)) administration of MgCl2 and ingestion of commercially available magnesium-rich mineral hard water relieves dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. Colitis was induced through ingestion of a 3% (w/v) DSS solution ad libitum for 10 d. Brilliant blue G (BBG, a P2X7R antagonist), MgCl2 or magnesium-rich mineral hard water was administered p.o. to mice via gastric intubation once a day or ad libitum from a day before DSS administration for 11 times or 11 d, respectively. DSS-treated mice exhibited a low disease activity index, a short colon and a high histological score compared to in control mice. As BBG (250 mg/kg, p.o.), administration of a MgCl2 solution (100 or 500 mg/kg, p.o.) and ad libitum ingestion of the magnesium-rich mineral hard water (212 ppm as magnesium) partially, but significantly, attenuated the severity of colitis by decreasing the accumulation of P2X7R-immunopositive mast cells in the colon. Therefore, prophylactic p.o. administration/ingestion of magnesium is considered to be partially effective to protect mice against DSS-induced colitis by inhibiting P2X7R-mediated activation/accumulation of colonic mast cells.

Since Saitama Medical University applied to carry out a sex reassignment surgery (so called "sex change surgery") in 1995, medicalization of "gender identity disorder" is actively encouraged in Japan. There has been a corresponding increase in number of treatises on this mental disorder published by specialists. By analyzing those professional discourses, I will illustrate how a domain of "the sexual" is socially constructed.<br> The social constructionism has argued two important views: First, objects are produced in and through a series of linguistic practices of signification; second, some knowledge is cited/referred when the practices are intelligible. The question of how "the sexual" is constructed will not be limited to the work of showing the particular way of construction of "the sexual." I will also show how and what kind of knowledge is cited in the constructing process.<br> Having learned constructionism from Judith Butler, this paper keeps the interest of describing gaps and fissures that are produced in the very process of the constructing practices. Those gaps and fissures are observed as logical discontinuity, and are taken as the possibility to change the hegemonic meaning of "the sexual."<br> I hold the attention of its changeablity because I am anxious that the construct of "the sexual" by professionals becomes standard and legitimate knowledge. Examining carefully the practices, we will find cited knowledge there operates against not only other "sexual minorities" but also transsexuals themselves.

ペンギンの胚発生研究を可能とする実験基盤を構築した。ペンギン卵を胚操作できる状況を各種許可申請を得るなど制度的にも実質的にも作り出した上で、細胞系譜追跡実験など胚操作実験を行った。その結果、ペンギン前肢の第1指形成不全が発生段階27以降に生じること、この過程で細胞増殖の低下が見られること、過剰なbmp4遺伝子の発現が見られること、などが明らかとなった。風切羽形態の特殊性を明らかにするために、ニワトリ胚における風切羽発生について詳細な記述を行った。本研究計画によって、世界で唯一かつ初めての試みとしてペンギン胚の発生研究モデル化の基盤が構築できた。

1990年に米国にて、アデノシンデアミナーゼ(ADA)欠損症に対して世界で最初の遺伝子治療が実施されてから、25年以上が経過した。この間、素晴らしい治療効果が観察された臨床例もあったが、期待されたほどの治療効果が得られた例は限られており、また重篤な副作用も報告されたことから、遺伝子治療は冬の時代を迎えた。しかし、その後の研究者の絶え間ない努力により、2012年のリポタンパクリパーゼ発現アデノ随伴ウイルスベクター(商品名Glybera)の承認を皮切りに、7種の遺伝子治療薬が相次いで承認され、いよいよ遺伝子治療は現実のものとなってきた。そこで本稿では、ウイルスを基盤とした遺伝子治療薬の開発の現状ならびに今後の展望について紹介する。

The Evolutionary Computation Competition (EC-Comp) is an optimization competition launched in 2017 to promote real-world applications of evolutionary computation and interaction between industry and academia. For 2017—2019, the competition has focused on continuous optimization problems in the manufacturing and aerospace industries. With the aim of exploring new areas of applications, EC-Comp2020 focused on "Designing Random Numbers to Entertain Game Players" in the game industry. Random numbers used in video games are usually generated by general-purpose pseudo random number generators, such as Mersenne Twister and Xorshift. However, these mathematically unbiased random numbers often make game players feel biased (sometimes even deliberately chosen), causing strong frustration. It is known that humans have various biases toward probabilistic events, and unbiased random numbers seem rather biased to game players. This competition asked to design a random number sequence that makes game players feel unbiased (but actually biased). This paper describes the definition of the random number design problem for entertaining game players in EC-Comp2020. This paper also explains the participants' optimization methods, accompanied with brief analysis on their results.

Whey protein, a by-product of cheese-making, is recognized to enhance not only nutritional value but also various physical properties in many food products. Whey protein consists of several different proteins, including beta-lactoglobulin, alpha-lactalbumin, immunoglobuin, bovine serum albumin, lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase and glycomacropeptide. As a result of new separation technologies, individual whey proteins can be isolated from whey. Findings from in vitro, in vivo and limited human studies suggest health function of individual whey proteins. This paper reviews fractionation, utilization and health benefit of individual whey proteins.

植民地初期(1895~1899年)の台湾における行政官と司法官の制服について,可視化のツールとして制服が制定されるまでの政治過程を検討した。第2章では,主に文官服制調査委員会の議論に焦点をあてながら,策定過程における諸案の変化を台湾社会との相関関係とともに検討した。第3章では,法服の策定過程を本国の法服と台湾人法院通訳の不可視化を視野にいれながら検討した。
